iCreate in ICTOP10 Image Plus EPS jumps

The markets are changing, with the Main Market up for three consecutive weeks but the Junior Market meandering for the last four weeks. Against this backdrop, there was one change to the TOP10, with iCreate coming in and Dolla Financial falling out, but Dolla and Honey Bun, that slipped out the previous week, sit immediately below the TOP10.
There were no significant winners for the past week in both markets’ TOP10 as losers dominated. The Junior market had Consolidated Bakeries falling 11 percent to $2.17 and general Accident down 10 percent to $5.40 and Lasco Distributors down 3 percent, with the stock selling at just 5.5 times 2023 estimated earnings and only 8.5 times the company’s nine month results. By any stretch, the stock is considerably undervalued and there are more profits to come in the current fiscal year.
Main Market stocks had a 13 percent fall in Key Insurance after the price closed at $3.08, Berger Paints contracted by 9 percent to $7.54 and 138 Student Living slipped 5 percent to $5.03, while Jamaica Broilers rose just 3 percent to $37.
Stocks are being prepped to rally, with early signals that interest rates will be declining across the board sooner than later. This stems from the continued slide of rates on BOJ CDs since March, that saw the rate falling by 23 percent to 8.11 percent against a background where inflation since November last year is running at less than one percent per annum.
At the week’s close, Image Plus released full year results showing profit after tax jumping 125.6 percent to $213 million or 21 cents per share. ICInsider.com revised earnings for the current fiscal year to 35 cents from 30 cents previously.
The Junior Market’s long history of rising around a month before the release of quarterly results and declining shortly after results are released seems to be starting with a rise of 108 points in the market index this past week, with the supply of some stocks falling sharply.
At the end of the week, the average PE for the JSE Main Market TOP 10 is 5.4, well below the market average of 13.8, while the Junior Market Top 10 PE sits at 5.9 compared with the market at 11.6. The differences are important indicators of the level of likely gains for ICTOP10 stocks. The Junior Market is projected to rise by 257 percent and the Main Market TOP10 by an average of 280 percent to May 2024, based on 2023 forecasted earnings.
The Junior Market has 11 stocks representing 23 percent of the market, with PEs from 15to 27, averaging 21, well above the market’s average. The top half of the market has an average PE of 17, suggesting that this may currently be the lowest fair value for Junior Market stocks.
The 18 highest valued Main Market stocks are priced at a PE of 15 to 115, with an average of 29 and 20 excluding the highest PE stocks and 20 for the top half excluding the stocks with the highest valuation.

Transjamaican heads Stocks to Watch

Some positive signs are emerging in the local stock market, with a few stocks in the Main Market making new highs repeatedly. Elsewhere, inflation is down and the fall in BOJ CD rates since early March from 10.54 percent to this week’s 8.11 percent, a 23 percent fall, are signs that interest rates locally have softened and set to fall across the board before long.
The above are positive signals for stocks. Some stocks are worth holding or watching as they possess the assets and earnings potential to deliver above average returns in stock value for patient investors but are not likely to gain as much as those in the ICTOP10 lists.
These stocks are Transjamaican Highway, Access Financial, Dolphin Cove, Honey Bun, Lasco Financial, Lasco Manufacturing, Main Event, Stationery and Office Supplies and Wigton Windfarm.

In the stock market, there is a time to hold, a time to fold and be bold that is the case of investing in Transjamaican Highway. The stock that came to the market in 2020 at $1.41, which many touted as reasonably priced, lagged the IPO price until this year and is worth seriously considering.
Transjamaican Highway has moved away from the zone of the IPO price of $1.41 at the end of March and now sits at $1.77, with the stock trading in high volume. Why would a stock that the company reported a loss of US$7 million? First, acquiring the majority shares in Jamaica Infrastructure Operators resulted in a onetime loss of US$13.7 million, the only reason for the company to report a loss for the year. The transaction will result in future cost savings expected to significantly reduce Operating Expenses by more than 50 percent or US$12 million per annum and increase profitability in the future. ICInsider.com projects earnings per share of 0.016 US cents or J$0.24. A technical indicator is pointing to a short term price around $2.40.

Staff members of Main Event

Main Event has been on a tear following impressive first quarter results of $118 million or 39 cents per share. The stock gained 64 percent for 2023 to date and 227 since the start of 2021. ICInsider.com projects earnings per share of $1.70 for the current year and a stock price hitting $30 by the end of 2023. Interestingly, while revenues for the recent quarter were a record $626 million, marginally up on the $597 million generated in the 2019 first quarter, there is more room for growth as the economy returns to normal levels since the contraction over the past two years. it is noted that the company is involved in the staging of JMEA expo this year and that will bring in added revenues that were not there last year.
Honey Bun just dropped out of the ICInsider.com TOP10 but has room for more upside price movement, with revenues up 23 percent for the first quarter to December last year and profit surging 64 percent to 94 million before taxation. ICInsider.com projects a 25 percent rise in revenues for the current year, with earnings doubling to 90 cents per share over that of 2022. Those numbers should be enough to increase investors’ interest in the stock with an improved gross profit margin that slipped last year, helping boost profit.
With the first quarter results due out over the next three weeks for Access Financial, Dolphin Cove, Stationery and Office Supplies and full year results for Lasco Financial and Lasco Manufacturing, investors will see that these stocks are seriously undervalued.
Wigton Windfarm has been quietly hitting new 52 weeks highs. It could go higher as investors buy up what has become limited supply in recent weeks as the company venture into additional business activities. Technically the stock has broken out of a long consolidation phase and the trend indicates a higher price of around 90 cents before it is stopped.

Rising stocks clipped losers on JSE USD Market

Trading dropped back to more recent levels on the Jamaica Stock Exchange US dollar market on Friday, with the volume of stocks changing hands declining 97 percent with 99 percent lower value than on Thursday, resulting in 10 securities traded, similar to that on Thursday and ended with the prices of three rising, two declining and five ending unchanged.
Investors traded 742,486 shares for US$13,313 compared to 22,118,146 units at US$1,680,361 on Thursday.
Trading averaged 74,249 units at US$1,331, down from 2,211,815 shares at US$168,036 on Thursday, with a month to date average of 394,241 shares at US$22,357, compared with 426,563 units at US$24,480 on the previous day. March ended with an average of 172,829 units for US$12,793.
The US Denominated Equities Index rallied 1.94 points to end at 219.56.
The PE Ratio, a measure used in computing appropriate stock values, averages 9.5. The PE ratio is computed based on the last traded price of each stock divided by projected earnings forecasts done by ICInsider.com for companies with their financial year ending between November 2022 and August 2023.
Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator shows five stocks ended with bids higher than their last selling prices and none with a lower offer.
At the close, First Rock Real Estate USD share dropped 0.94 of one cent to end at 5.16 US cents in switching ownership of 1,000 shares, Margaritaville gained 1.45 cents and ended at 11.48 US cents 12 with stock units crossing the market, Proven Investments ended at 17.59 US cents and closed with an exchange of 15,823 stocks, Sygnus Credit Investments climbed 0.44 of a cent to close at 9.44 US cents with investors transferring 11,000 units, Sygnus Real Estate Finance USD share rallied 0.43 of one cent in closing at 11 US cents, with 5,312 stock units clearing the market and Transjamaican Highway remained at 1.16 US cents after a transfer of 708,836 stocks.
In the preference segment, Eppley 6% preference share ended at US$1.40 with a transfer of just one unit, Equityline Mortgage Investment preference share remained at US$1.64 with the swapping of a mere one share, JMMB Group 5.75% declined 20 cents in closing at US$2 in an exchange of only one stock and JMMB Group 6% remained at US$1.07 in an exchange of 500 shares.

Gains for JSE Main Market on Friday

The Main Market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange jumped on Friday, to close April on a positive note but a little lower than March close. Trading ended with a 61 percent rise in the volume of stocks traded, with the value 31 percent more than on Thursday, following trading in 60 securities compared to 57 on Thursday and ending with prices of 25 rising, 18 declining and 17 ending unchanged.
A total of 15,514,547 shares were traded for $64,737,290 compared to 9,660,257 units at $49,441,575 on Thursday.
Trading averaged 258,576 shares at $1,078,955 compared with 169,478 shares at $867,396 on Thursday and month to date, an average of 264,549 units at $1,409,410, compared with 264,916 units at $1,429,746 on the previous day. trading in March closed with an average of 356,137 units at $3,015,416.
Wigton Windfarm led trading with 7.02 million shares for 45.2 percent of total volume, Transjamaican Highway followed with 3.05 million units for 19.6 percent of the day’s trade, 138 Student Living with 1.85 million units for 11.9 percent market share and Radio Jamaica with 1.48 million units for 9.6 percent of total volume.
The All Jamaican Composite Index jumped 3,118.34 points to finish at 380,322.58, the JSE Main Index rallied 2,293.26 points to 338,081.79 and the JSE Financial Index rose 0.45 points to 77.62.

Jamaica Stock Exchange increased 55 cents to close at $14.20 with a transfer of 66,110 shares, Kingston Properties rose 35 cents to end at $7.85 and closed after trading in 324,099 units, Kingston Wharves popped 98 cents after ending at $33.73 after investors traded 39,783 stocks, Margaritaville climbed 38 cents to $19 as 320 stock units passed through the market. Pan Jamaica Group dropped $1.94 in closing at $54.50 after an exchange of 60,692 shares, Radio Jamaica jumped 50 cents to end at $2.25 after 1,483,903 stocks changed hands, Sagicor Group climbed $2.97 to $52 with the swapping of 218,681 stock units, Seprod fell $2 in closing at $73 as investors exchanged 15,401 units. Supreme Ventures dipped $1.46 to $28 in an exchange of 67,158 stock units, Sygnus Real Estate Finance rallied $1.50 to close at $10.89 after a transfer of 3,947 shares and Wisynco Group popped 56 cents to end at $17.45 with 236,080 stocks crossing the exchange.
In the preference segment, Eppley 7.75% preference share rose 90 cents to $19.50 after trading in 704 units, Jamaica Public Service 7% advanced $30.34 to end at $128.95 with an exchange of 1,820 stocks, JMMB Group 7.25% preference share rose 67 cents to close at a 52 weeks’ high of $5.19 with investors transferring 1,112 shares. 138 Student Living preference share shed 65 cents in ending at $88, with 50 units crossing the market and Productive Business Solutions 9.75% preference share lost $9 in closing at $95 after exchanging 10 stock units.

Sharp jump for Junior Market

Trading closed on the Junior Market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange Friday, with the volume of stocks traded jumping 170 percent and the value 197 percent more than on Thursday with 44 securities trading compared with 46 on Thursday and ended with 26 rising, just six declining and 12 left unchanged.
Investors traded 16,843,959 shares for $45,142,781 up sharply from 6,242,982 units at $15,183,837 on Thursday.
Trading averaged 382,817 shares at $1,025,972 compared with 135,717 shares at $330,083 on Thursday with the month to date, averaging 266,661 units at $2,583,503 compared to 259,810 stock units at $2,675,368 on the previous day. Trading in March ended with an average of 509,288 units at $1,071,868.
Spur Tree Spices led trading with 3.52 million shares for 20.9 percent of total volume followed by Jamaican Teas with 2.85 million units for 16.9 percent of the day’s trade, JFP Ltd with 2.76 million units for 16.4 percent market share, Regency Petroleum with 1.46 million units for 8.7 percent market share and Indies Pharma with 1.37 million units for 8.1 percent of total volume.
At the close, the Junior Market Index climbed 49.17 points to close at 3,737.92.

Dolphin Cove fell 37 cents in closing at $14.95, with 58,427 stocks changing hands, Elite Diagnostic advanced 9 cents in closing at $2.59 after ownership was switched for 11,100 shares, Express Catering gained 43 cents to close at $5.19 with investors transferring 14,547 units, Fontana climbed 16 cents to end at $8.50 closed with an exchange of 29,337 stock units. Fosrich shed 7 cents in ending at $2.70 after investors traded 394,931 stocks, Indies Pharma rallied 45 cents to $3.55 with an exchange of 1,369,691 shares, ISP Finance climbed $1.48 to end at $22.98 after an exchange of 20 units, JFP Ltd gained 7 cents in closing at $1.91 in an exchange of 2,764,674 stock units. Lasco Distributors popped 8 cents and ended at $2.29 with 171,499 shares clearing the market, Lasco Manufacturing rallied 20 cents to close at $4 after a transfer of 24,554 stock units, Limners and Bards gained 28 cents to close at $2.53, with 372,225 units crossing the market, Mailpac Group rose 10 cents to $2.24 after 102,442 stocks crossed the exchange. Main Event dipped 33 cents in ending at $13.15 as investors exchanged 3,582 stocks, MFS Capital Partners advanced 30 cents to end at $3.60 while exchanging 365,191 stock units, Regency Petroleum gained 25 cents to close at record high of $2.65 in an exchange of 1,459,284 units and Stationery and Office Supplies increased $2.47 in closing at $15.75 with a transfer of 121,763 shares.

Gains for Jamaica Stock Exchange markets

The Jamaica Stock Exchange eked out modest gains at the end of trading on Friday to end the month on a positive note as all three markets rose as trading returned to more regular levels following a surge in trading on the JSE USD market on Thursday.
Trading ended after the JSE Combined Market Index rose 2,589.87 points to finish trading at 349,670.27, the All Jamaican Composite Index jumped 3,118.34 points to 380,322.58, the JSE Main Index rose 2,293.26 points to conclude trading at 338,081.79, the Junior Market Index jumped 49.10 points to 3,737.92 and the JSE USD Market Index popped 1.75 points to finish at 219.55.
Shares in the preference segment of the Main Market that are not included in the TOP10 graphs ended with Jamaica Public Service 7% advanced $30.34 to end at $128.95 and Productive Business Solutions 9.75% preference share lost $9 in closing at $95.
At the close, investors exchanged 33,097,266 shares in all three markets, up from 38,009,067 units on Thursday, with the value of stocks trading amounting to $109.8 million up from $64.5 million on Thursday. Trading on the JSE USD market resulted in investors exchanging 742,486 shares for US$13,313, down from 22,118,146 units at US$1.68 million on Thursday.
The market’s PE ratio ended at 19 on 2022-23 earnings and 12.7 times those for 2023-24 at the close of trading.

Gains for Trinidad Exchange to close out April

Trading fell on the Trinidad and Tobago Stock Exchange on Friday, as the volume of stocks traded declined by 47 percent, with a 72 percent lower value than on Thursday. At the close 21 securities were traded compared with 19 on Thursday, with eight stocks rising, five declining and eight ending unchanged.
Investors exchanged 179,420 shares for $2,037,583, down from 338,683 units at $7,254,285 on Thursday.
An average of 8,544 shares were traded at $97,028 compared with 17,825 stock units at $381,804 on Thursday, with trading month to date averaging 17,776 units at $261,442 versus 18,397 units at $272,509 on the previous day. The average trade for March ended at 23,611 shares at $241,669.
The Composite Index rose 5.85 points to 1,318.96, the All T&T Index rallied 5.88 points to 1,975.76, the SME Index remained at 61.51 and the Cross-Listed Index popped 0.81 points to settle at 86.23.

At the close, Agostini’s ended at $64 after 3,017 shares changed hands, Angostura Holdings popped 44 cents in closing at $24.39, with 24 stock units clearing the market, Ansa McAl remained at $53 in trading 496 units, Ansa Merchant Bank ended at $42.36 after a transfer of 200 stocks. First Citizens Group dipped 1 cent to $50 as 70 stocks passed through the market, FirstCaribbean International Bank increased 2 cents in closing at $7.24 as investors exchanged 1,173 stock units, GraceKennedy remained at $4.20 in an exchange of 4,045 units, Guardian Holdings remained at $25.05 with investors transferring 1,364 shares. JMMB Group dipped 1 cent to $1.50 after an exchange of 11,438 units, Massy Holdings popped 5 cents to $4.75 with the swapping of 85,993 shares, National Enterprises fell 1 cent in closing at $3.72 after exchanging 14,579 stocks, National Flour Mills rallied 5 cents to $1.50 while trading 20 stock units. NCB Financial advanced 11 cents to close at $3.99 with an exchange of 8,252 shares, Point Lisas ended at $4.30 in switching ownership of 2,283 stocks, Prestige Holdings remained at $8 after an exchange of 1,186 stock units, Republic Financial shed 50 cents to close at $135, with 4,897 units crossing the exchange. Scotiabank gained 49 cents in closing at $77.49, with 689 shares changing hands, Trinidad & Tobago NGL rose 99 cents to $19.99 after an exchange of 18,582 stocks, Trinidad Cement ended at $3.50 with a transfer of 14,946 units, Unilever Caribbean popped 15 cents to end at $15.75 in trading 6,000 stock units and West Indian Tobacco lost 2 cents in closing at $16.48, with 166 stock units crossing the market.

Moderate trading for JSE main market

Trading activity plunged on the Jamaica Stock Exchange Main Market on Thursday, with the volume of stocks traded declining 64 percent and the value 85 percent less than on Wednesday, with trading in 57 securities compared to 60 on Wednesday and resulting in prices of 22 rising, 25 declining and 10 ending unchanged and two stocks hit 52 weeks’ highs.
A total of 9,660,257 shares were traded for just $49,441,575 versus 27,085,519 units at $325,797,894 on Wednesday.
Trading averaged 169,478 shares at $867,396 down from 451,425 units at $5,429,965 on Wednesday and month to date, an average of 264,916 units at $1,429,746, compared with 270,842 units at $1,464,663 on the previous day. March closed with an average of 356,137 units at $3,015,416.
Transjamaican Highway led trading with 3.80 million shares for 39.4 percent of total volume followed by Stanley Motta with 1.77 million units for 18.4 percent of the day’s trade after closing at a 52 weeks’ high and Wigton Windfarm with 1.40 million units for 14.5 percent market share.
The All Jamaican Composite Index climbed 816.41 points to 377,204.24, the JSE Main Index rose 954.77 points to close at 335,788.53 and the JSE Financial Index popped 0.08 points to settle at 77.17.

At the close, Caribbean Cement lost 98 cents after an exchange of 39,918 shares at $58,Eppley Caribbean Property Fund fell $2.90 to close at $40.60 after investors traded 160 stocks, Guardian Holdings declined $4.98 to $485.02 as investors swapped just 84 units. Jamaica Broilers popped $1.07 to end at $36.37, with 22,085 stock units crossing the market, Jamaica Producers rose 67 cents in closing at $21.67 with a transfer of 10,043 units, JMMB Group climbed 90 cents to $31.45 while exchanging 34,545 shares. Kingston Properties rallied 85 cents to close at $7.50 after trading 123,711 stock units, Margaritaville dropped 38 cents in closing at $18.62 with the swapping of 451 stocks, Massy Holdings gained $2.50 to end at $88, with 64 stocks crossing the market. MPC Caribbean Clean Energy shed $12.75 to end at $72.24 in switching ownership of 156 shares, NCB Financial increased $1.50 to close at $73.53 after 27,308 stock units passed through the exchange, Sagicor Group dipped 97 cents in ending at $49.03 as 15,946 units passed through the market, Seprod advanced $5.30 in closing at $75 with an exchange of 30,340 stocks. Supreme Ventures climbed 57 cents to $29.46 and closed with an exchange of 96,813 stock units, Sygnus Real Estate Finance declined $1.61 to end at $9.39 in trading 2 units and Wisynco Group shed 41 cents to $16.89 trading 101,965 shares.
In the preference segment, Jamaica Public Service 7% gained $19.12 to close at $98.61 with investors transferring 1,183 shares. JMMBG 7.5% closed at a 52 weeks’ high of $1.18 after trading 27,760 shares.

First Rock dominates JSE USD trading

Trading surged sharply on the Jamaica Stock Exchange US dollar market ended on Thursday, with the volume of stocks changing hands jumping 19,268 percent with 22,230 percent greater value than on Wednesday, First Rock Real Estate and proven Investments commanded the bulk of the day’s trade accounting for 99.36 percent of the volume traded, with trading in 10 securities, up from six on Wednesday and closing with four rising, four declining and two ending unchanged.
Overall, 22,118,146 shares were traded, for US$1,680,361 compared with 114,200 units at US$7,525 on Wednesday.
Trading averaged 2,211,815 shares at US$168,036 compared to 19,033 shares at US$1,254 on Wednesday, with a month to date average of 426,563 shares at US$24,480 compared with 225,973 units at US$8,351 on the previous day. March ended with an average of 172,829 units for US$12,793.
The US Denominated Equities Index dipped 19.78 points to 217.61.

At the close, First Rock Real Estate USD share gained 0.16 of a cent to end at 6.1 US cents after hefty trading of 19,350,000 shares, Margaritaville rallied 0.03 of a cent to 10.03 US cents as investors exchanged 595 units, MPC Caribbean Clean Energy dipped 2 cents in closing at 58 US cents with a transfer of 37 stock units. Productive Business Solutions lost 29.99 cents to close at US$1.60 with the swapping of 28 stocks, Proven Investments advanced 0.54 of one cent and ended at 17.59 US cents after an exchange of 2,626,400 stocks, Sterling Investments ended at 1.89 US cents, as 13,860 units changed hands. Sygnus Credit Investments ended at 9 US cents, after trading 75,643 stocks and Transjamaican Highway popped 0.01 of a cent in closing at 1.16 US cents while exchanging 42,500 shares.
In the preference segment, Productive Business 9.25% preference share declined 25 cents to close at US$12.75 in an exchange of 2,566 stocks and JMMB Group 6% shed 1 cent to end at US$1.07 in an exchange of 6,517 shares.

Slippage for Junior Market

Trading closed on the Junior Market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange Thursday, with the volume of stocks traded declining 22 percent with a 15 percent lower value than on Wednesday following trading activities in 46 securities compared with 44 on Wednesday and the market ended with prices of 15 rising, 24 declining and seven closing unchanged.
Investors traded 6,242,982 shares for $15,183,837 against 7,960,577 units at $17,940,729 on Wednesday.
Trading averaged 135,717 shares at $330,083 compared with 180,922 shares at $407,744 on Wednesday with the month to date, averaging 259,810 units at $2,675,368 versus 267,964 stock units at $2,829,487 on the previous day. March closed with an average of 509,288 units at $1,071,868.
Jamaican Teas led trading with 1.63 million shares for 26.1 percent of total volume followed by Image Plus Consultants with 767,094 units for 12.3 percent of the day’s trade and Mailpac Group with 508,167 units for 8.1 percent market share.
At the close, the Junior Market Index slipped 4.17 points to finish at 3,688.75.

At the close, Access Financial shed 99 cents to close at $23, with 100 shares changing hands, AMG Packaging declined 40 cents to $2.60 with investors transferring 1,536 stocks, Cargo Handlers popped 30 cents in ended at $13.80 as investors exchanged 3,877 stock units, Caribbean Cream dipped 49 cents to end at a 52 weeks’ low of $3, with 20,453 units crossing the exchange. Consolidated Bakeries dropped 24 cents in closing at $2.16 with an exchange of 31,161 stocks, Dolla Financial fell 8 cents to $2.67 after 273,722 stock units crossed the market, Elite Diagnostic lost 10 cents at $2.50 while exchanging 3,959 shares, Express Catering fell 66 cents to end at $4.76 in trading 104,299 units, but the price hit a 52 weeks’ intraday low of $3.90 before bouncing up sharply after trading in stock resumed after an hour suspension. Fosrich rallied 7 cents to close at $2.77 after an exchange of 187,045 stocks, General Accident shed 10 cents in closing at $5.40 as 31,204 units passed through the market, GWest Corporation declined 14 cents to close at 90 cents with 28,645 stock units crossing the market, Indies Pharma dipped 25 cents to $3.10 after exchanging 59,779 shares. Jamaican Teas climbed 13 cents to end at $2.38 after a transfer of 1,628,405 units, Lasco Distributors dropped 21 cents in closing at $2.21 in an exchange of 113,504 stock units, Lasco Manufacturing fell 25 cents to end at $3.80 with the swapping of 70,117 shares, Limners and Bards dipped 7 cents to close at $2.25 with 52,548 stocks clearing the market. Mailpac Group gained 17 cents to $2.14 after trading 508,167 shares, Medical Disposables rose 96 cents to end at $6.10 in an exchange of 79,831 stocks, MFS Capital Partners advanced 20 cents in closing at $3.30 in switching ownership of 316,695 stock units, Paramount Trading shed 17 cents and ended at $2.15 in trading 2,450 units, Stationery and Office Supplies dropped 83 cents to $13.28 with a transfer of 2,865 shares and tTech fell 26 cents to $2.27 with a transfer of 3,506 units.
