West Indies Petroleum’s huge JSE trade


Trading closed Thursday on the Jamaica Stock Exchange with a surge in the volume and value of stocks traded, following a sizable trade of 320 million shares of West Indies Petroleum. Trading resulted in major indices of the Main Market rising, while the Junior Market index and the JSE USD Market index fell after prices of 38 shares rose, 43 declined and 26 remained firm.

At the end of the market activity, the JSE Combined Market Index climbed 2,580.93 points to finish at 378,391.64, with the All Jamaican Composite Index rising 3,631.95 points to close at 445,712.34, the JSE Main Index rallied 2,822.41 points to close at 374,004.07, the Junior Market Index declined by 16.40 points to end at 2,896.67 and the JSE USD Market Index shed 6.25 points to 313.18.
At the close of the market activity, 347,461,263 shares were traded in all three markets, up from just 26,285,516 units on Wednesday, with the value of stocks traded on the Junior and Main markets surging to $3.17 billion, up from a mere $189.77 million on the previous day. Trading on the JSE USD market closed with an exchange of 1,450,938 shares for US$597,546, up sharply from 413,008 units at US$76,788 on Wednesday.
In Main Market activity, West Indies Petroleum led trading with 320.03 million shares, followed by Transjamaican Highway with 3.02 million stocks and Wigton Energy with 2.96 million units.
In Junior Market trading, Dolla Financial led with 4.75 million shares, followed by Fontana with 4.48 million stocks and Woodcats International with 771,043 units.
Amongst the top winners of the Main Market ordinary share winners, Pan Jamaica increased $2 to end at $46.00, Carreras climbed $2 to finish at $35, Barita Investments climbed $1.19 to $66.00, Jamaica Producers rose $1.18 and ended at $21.50 and Sagicor Group advanced by 90 cents to finish at $41.00. In the preference share segment, Jamaica Public Service 7% shed $4 and ended at $30 and 138 Student Living preference share rose $15 to $220.
In the Junior Market, among the top winners, Dolphin Cove rallied $1.25 to finish at $12.15, Knutsford Express gained 34 cents to $7.99, Caribbean Cream rose 34 cents in closing at $2.15, Lasco Financial rallied 25 cents to close at $1.79 and Main Event increased 23 cents to finish at $4.23. Among the top losers, Cargo Handlers skidded $2.54 to end at $14.45, Blue Power shed 40 cents and ended at $3.25, Dolla Financial declined 25 cents to $3.25, Consolidated Bakeries shed 19 cents and ended at $1.26 and Future Energy dropped 15 cents to close at $3.53.

Juniors gain Main & USD markets mixed


Trading closed mixed on Wednesday on the Jamaica Stock Exchange after a fall in the volume of stocks traded, with a lower value than on Tuesday. Trading resulted in moderate changes in major indices of the markets. At the end of trading the prices of 44 shares rose, 42 declined and 28 remained unchanged.

At the end of the market activity, the JSE Combined Market Index inched 1.56 points higher to close at 375,810.71, the All Jamaican Composite Index climbed 199.17 points to end at 442,080.39, the JSE Main Index dipped 110.70 points to finish at 371,181.66, the Junior Market Index rose 14.96 points to close at 2,913.07 and the JSE USD Market Index skidded 4.69 points to conclude trading at 319.43.
At the close of trading, 26,285,516 shares were exchanged in all three markets, down from 31,168,098 units on Tuesday, with the value of stocks traded on the Junior and Main markets amounted to $189.77 million, down from $248.17 million on the previous day. Trading on the JSE USD market closed with an exchange of 413,008 shares for US$76,788 compared to 1,275,763 units at US$99,709 on Tuesday.
In Main Market activity, Transjamaican Highway led trading with 3.80 million shares, followed by Wigton Energy with 3.33 million stocks and Tropical Battery with 3.16 million units.

JSE markets mostly fall on Tuesday

Mixed trading on JSE Main Market


Trading ended mixed on Monday on the Jamaica Stock Exchange Main Market compared with Friday, with the volume of stocks traded rising 23 percent with 12 percent lower value than on Friday. Investors exchanged 62 securities, up from 56 on Friday, with prices of 18 rising, 33 declining and 11 ending unchanged.

The market closed with 15,872,782 shares trading worth $183,203,796 compared with 12,870,467 stocks at $208,592,826 on Friday.
Trading averaged 256,013 shares at $2,954,900, relative to 229,830 stock units valued at $3,724,872 on Friday. Trading month to date, ended with an average of 336,340 units at $4,134,072, down mildly from 345,478 shares at $4,268,217 on the Friday and well above the average of 294,201 stock units at $3,175,664 during July.
Transjamaican Highway led trading with 7.45 million shares for 46.9 percent of total volume, followed by Sagicor Select Financial Fund with 2.12 million stocks for 13.3 percent of the day’s trade and Wigton Energy with 1.19 million stock units for 7.5 percent of the total number of shares traded.

At the close of trading, 36,483,225 shares were exchanged in all three markets, up from 27,254,846 units on Wednesday, with the value of stocks traded on the Junior and Main markets amounted to $255.56 million, down from $327.48 million on the previous day. Trading on the JSE USD market closed with an exchange of 221,390 shares for US$28,376 compared to 248,902 units at US$17,256 on Wednesday.

JSE Main Market falls as Junior Market rises


More money entered the Jamaica Stock Exchange Wednesday, but investors walked away with fewer shares than they did on Tuesday. Trading resulted in major indices of the Main Market falling, the Junior Market index rising and the JSE USD Market inching just higher. At the end of trading the prices of 41 shares rose, 42 declined and 27 remained firm.

At the end of the market activity, the JSE Combined Market Index lost 668.40 points to 373,790.42, the All Jamaican Composite Index dropped 917.58 points to end at 439,227.16, the JSE Main Index declined 831.68 points to 369,026.38, as the Junior Market Index increased 17.66 points to end at 2,918.71 and the JSE USD Market Index rose 0.63 points to conclude trading at 309.71.
At the close of the market, 27,254,846 shares were exchanged in all three markets, down from 31,481,788 units on Tuesday, with the value of stocks traded on the Junior and Main markets amounting to $327.48 million, up from $234.8 million on the previous day. Trading on the JSE USD market closed with an exchange of 248,902 shares for US$17,256 compared to 1,795,092 units at US$332,328 on Tuesday.
In Main Market activity, Transjamaican Highway led with 9.33 million shares, followed by Jamaica Stock Exchange with 2.35 million stocks and Lasco Manufacturing with 2.17 million units.
In Junior Market trading, One Great Studio led with 1.65 million shares, followed by JFP with 1.35 million stocks and Atlantic Hardware with 600,376 units.
In Main Market ordinary share movements, among the top winners, Proven Investments gained $1.12 and ended at $9.88, Quantas Advantage rose 90 cents to $15.50, Sagicor Group advanced 55 cents in closing at $41.65, Mayberry Group popped 55 cents to finish at $5.75 and GraceKennedy increased 50 cents to close at $77.00.

Transjamaican continues to dominate JSE


Trading closed Tuesday on the Jamaica Stock Exchange following a huge drop in the number of stocks traded, with a lower value than on Monday, even as Transjamaican Highway led trading with more than 11 million shares. Trading resulted in major indices of the Main Market falling, the Junior Market and the JSE USD Market. At the end of trading, prices of 43 shares rose, 43 declined and 27 remained firm.

At the end of the market activity, the JSE Combined Market Index declined 2,525.37 points to wrap up trading at 374,458.82, while the All Jamaican Composite Index dropped 4,399.66 points to end at 440,144.74, the JSE Main Index declined by 2,631.01 points to end at 369,858.06, the Junior Market Index declined a mere 1.35 points to end at 2,901.05 and the JSE USD Market Index fell 2.88 points to settle at 309.08.
At the close of the market, 31,481,788 shares were exchanged in all three markets, down from 63,241,354 units on Monday, with the value of stocks traded on the Junior and Main markets amounting to $234.8 million, down from $284.97 million on the previous day. Trading on the JSE USD market closed with an exchange of 1,795,092 shares for US$332,328, well above the 810,196 units at US$59,827 on Monday.
In Main Market activity, Transjamaican Highway led trading with 11.11 million shares, followed by Supreme Ventures with 1.57 million stocks and Wigton Energy with 1.17 million units.
In Junior Market trading, Omni Industries led with 2.95 million shares, followed by Woodcats International with 2.45 million stocks and Spur Tree Spices with 1.53 million units.
In Main Market ordinary share movements, among the top winners, Eppley Caribbean Property Fund rallied $4.66 to end at $43.99, AS Bryden increased $1.40 to $24.55, Sagicor Real Estate Fund climbed $1.09 and ended at $8.30, Scotia Group rose 80 cents in closing at $58.00 and General Accident advanced 70 cents to finish at $8.95.

JSE Main Market skids, Juniors rise


Trading closed Monday on the Jamaica Stock Exchange with a rise in the volume of stocks traded, with a lower value than on Friday. Trading resulted in major indices of the Main Market and the JSE USD Market falling. The Junior Market index closed higher, at the end of trading, with prices of 60 shares rising, 42 declining and 17 remaining firm.

At the end of the market activity, the JSE Combined Market Index declined 1,615.86 points to end at 376,984.19, as the All Jamaican Composite Index shed 2,349.74 points to end at 444,544.40, the JSE Main Index dipped 1,891.16 points to end at 372,489.07, the Junior Market Index advanced 26.80 points to settle at 2,902.40 and the JSE USD Market Index shed 6.29 points to 311.96.
At the close of trading, 63,241,354 shares were exchanged in all three markets, up from 47,112,090 units on Friday, with the value of stocks traded on the Junior and Main markets amounting to $284.97 million, down from $293.27 million on the previous day. Trading on the JSE USD market closed with an exchange of 810,196 shares for US$59,827 compared to 1,615,358 units at US$116,966 on Friday.
In Main Market activity, Transjamaican Highway led with 13.94 million shares, followed by Wigton Energy with 2.26 million stocks and Sagicor Select Financial Fund with 1.61 million units.
In Junior Market trading, AMG Packaging led with 25.01 million shares, followed by Woodcats International with 4.04 million stocks and Omni Industries with 1.84 million units.
