Trading closed Monday on the Jamaica Stock Exchange, with a rise in the volume of stocks traded, with a lightly slower value than on Friday. Trading resulted in major indices except for JSE Main Index declining, following prices of 43 shares rising, 55 declining and 22 remaining firm.
At the end of the market’s activity, the JSE Combined Market Index slipped by 193.24 points to close at 377,777.80, while the All Jamaican Composite Index skidded 344.01 points to finish at 444,799.26, the JSE Main Index gained a mere 9.75 points to close at 373,264.92, the Junior Market Index declined 28.23 points to settle at 2,909.61 and the JSE USD Market Index fell 3.26 points to 319.37.
At the close of trading, 33,633,468 shares were exchanged in all three markets, up from 21,189,372 units on Friday, with the value of stocks traded on the Junior and Main markets amounting to $201.92 million, down from $223 million on the previous day. Trading on the JSE USD market closed with an exchange of 880,044 shares for US$69,247, down from 1,076,367 units at US$79,709 on Friday.
In Main Market activity, Transjamaican Highway led trading with 7.45 million shares, followed by Sagicor Select Financial Fund with 2.12 million stocks and Wigton Energy with 1.19 million units.
In Junior Market trading, Woodcats International led with 6.76 million shares, followed by Derrimon Trading with 1.45 million stocks and Atlantic Hardware with 1.25 million units.
In Main Market ordinary share segment, Caribbean Cement increased $5.09 to end at $113.99, Seprod climbed $3.89 to $74.99, Kingston Properties rose $2.50 to close at $12.00, Sagicor Real Estate Fund rallied $1.42 to finish at $8.60 and Quantas Advantage popped 50 cents and ended at $15.50.
Among the top Main market losers, Barita Investments fell $2.99 in closing at $65.00, First Rock Real Estate dropped by $1.97 to end at $5.52, Margaritaville declined by $1.28 to $7.27, Jamaica Producers shed $1.22 to end at $20.60 and Scotia Group declined 93 cents in closing at $57.05.
In the preference share segment, Productive Business Solutions 10.5% advanced $33 to $1,220 and Sygnus Credit Investments 10% skidded $1.19 to $112.
In the Junior Market, among the top winners, Access Financial gained $1.25 to finish at $16.75, Honey Bun advanced 64 cents to close at $6.09, Consolidated Bakeries gained 24 cents and ended at $1.45, Dolla Financial advanced 20 cents to finish at $3.70, Image Plus rose 9 cents and ended at $1.19 and Elite Diagnostic climbed 9 cents to close at $1.39. Among the top losers, Main Event dipped 68 cents in closing at $4.00, Dolphin Cove skidded 39 cents to end at $11.00, Everything Fresh slipped 29 cents and ended at $1.80, Blue Power fell 20 cents to $3.70 and Iron Rock Insurance declined 20 cents to close at $2.00.
At the close of trading, the PE ratio for the current year, compiled from projected 2026-27 earnings. is 11.6 and 16.3 based on 2025 historical earnings. Major one-off income or expenses are excluded from earnings where applicable. The PE ratio is one of the most frequently used measures in valuing shares. It is calculated by dividing the stock price by earnings per share.
