All Jamaica Stock Exchange markets rise


Trading closed Thursday on the Jamaica Stock Exchange after a rise in the volume of stocks traded, but with a lower value than on Wednesday. Trading resulted in major indices of the market rising. At the end of trading the prices of 43 shares rose, 47 declined and 19 remained firm.

At the end of the market activity, the JSE Combined Market Index rallied 2,406.71 points to 376,197.13, while the All Jamaican Composite Index advanced 3,317.10 points to close at 442,544.26, the JSE Main Index rose 2,363.89 points to 371,390.27, the Junior Market Index rallied by 20.41 points to settle at 2,939.12 and the JSE USD Market Index increased 4.93 points to a record high of 314.64.
At the close of trading, 36,483,225 shares were exchanged in all three markets, up from 27,254,846 units on Wednesday, with the value of stocks traded on the Junior and Main markets amounted to $255.56 million, down from $327.48 million on the previous day. Trading on the JSE USD market closed with an exchange of 221,390 shares for US$28,376 compared to 248,902 units at US$17,256 on Wednesday.
In Main Market activity, Transjamaican Highway led with 14.53 million shares, with the price bouncing following release of half year results, followed by Wigton Energy with 2.21 million stocks and Sagicor Select Financial Fund with 2.04 million units.
In Junior Market trading, Dolla Financial led with 3.88 million shares, followed by Woodcats International with 2.39 million stocks and Omni Industries with 1.78 million units.
In Main Market ordinary share movements, among the winners, Guardian Holdings climbed $4.50 to close at $369.50, Barita Investments increased $3 to $67.00, Caribbean Cement and ended at, Pan Jamaica gained $1.90 to end at $45.18 and Jamaica Stock Exchange rose 89 cents to finish at $9.74. Among the top losers, MPC Caribbean Clean Energy dropped $4 to close at $25.00, Kingston Properties fell $1.49 to end at $9.50, AS Bryden dipped $1.05 to $23.50, Proven Investments lost 88 cents to close at $9.00 and Quantas Advantage shed 85 cents in closing at $14.65. In the preference segment, Jamaica Public Service 9.5% shed $330 to end at $1,870, 138 Student Living preference share lost $2.08 in closing at $230 and Sygnus Credit Investments 10% dipped $11.80 to end at $100.
In the Junior Market, among the top winners, Dolla Financial advanced 51 cents to close at $3.36, Jetcon Corporation rallied 39 cents to finish at $4.00, Blue Power increased 34 cents to end at $3.49, Express Catering climbed 10 cents in closing at $2.00 and GWest Corporation popped 10 cents to 70 cents. Among the top losers, Cargo Handlers dropped 78 cents to end at $17.02, Caribbean Cream shed 34 cents to $1.81, Honey Bun lost 28 cents and ended at $6.20, Consolidated Bakeries slipped 20 cents to close at $1.20 and Everything Fresh skidded 19 cents in closing at $1.76.

Major one-off income or expenses are excluded from earnings where applicable. The PE ratio is one of the most frequently used measures in valuing shares.
