Trading on the Jamaica Stock Exchange in the morning session on Wednesday is off to a bright start with new 52 weeks’ highs being reached in Berger Paints and Pulse Investments. Trading volumes are up across the board after 75 minutes of trading, with 34 securities traded amounting to 2,039,201 units. 11 stocks recorded gains and 10 declined.
Scotia Bank traded 186,800 units at $34.99 but has an offer to sell at $32 as this stock seems set to continue its sharp up and down movements that it has been doing from 2015. Caribbean Producers had a good volume of 663,072 units but slipped back to $5.10 from the closing price of $5.50 on Tuesday.
The all Jamaica Composite Index climbed 561.17 points to 181,930.63, the JSE Market Index rose 502.14 points to 163,727.15, the JSE combined index gained 532.63 points to 174,471.12 and the junior market index gained 6.55 points to 2,224.19 as this market continues to make recovery from recent declines.

NCB at J$45.20 on TTSE – Friday
National Commercial Bank traded at a 10 percent premium over the last traded price of $41 in Jamaica on Friday, as the stock hit a 52 weeks’ high of TT$2.40 in Trinidad, having gained 12 cents while trading 52,325 shares. The gain stems from the company posting a 12 percent increase in profit for the quarter, to December last year.
National Commercial Bank stock remains in demand with a bid of $2.35 to purchase 121,645 shares and an offer to sell 14,053 units at $2.40.
The market closed with 15 securities being active on Friday with 5 stocks gaining, 2 declining with the prices of 8 remaining unchanged as the stock prices of 3 companies hit 52 weeks’ high and one stock closed at a 52 weeks’ low. A total of 323,981 shares changed hands valued at $3,160,392.
The Composite Index advanced by 0.87 points to 1,163.31, the All T&T Index lost 2.10 points to 1,931.28 and the Cross Listed Index gained 0.53 points to end at 52.16.

Gains| Grace Kennedy traded 1,300 shares to gain 3 cents and closed at a 52 weeks’ high of $4.15, Guardian Holdings had 966 units changing hands and gained 2 cents to close at $14.20, Prestige Holdings contributed 103,621 shares with a value of $1,060,013 and rose 4 cents while closing at a 52 weeks’ high of $10.23 and Scotia Investments contributed 90,246 shares with an increase of 2 cents to close at $1.60.
Losses| National Flour lost 6 cents to end with 1,793 shares changing hands at $2.27 and the late 2015 listed Trinidad and Tobago NGL fell 89 cents to a new 52 weeks’ low of $19.10 with 42,256 shares valued at $807,090 changing hands as lower energy prices puts pressure on revenues.
Firm Trades| Angostura Holdings ended with 850 shares changing hands to end at $13.60, Ansa Merchant Bank traded 3,631 units at $38.96, Clico Investment Fund traded 23,550 shares valued at $529,876 to close at $22.51. First Citizens Bank had just 25 shares changing hands at $35. Republic Financial Holdings closed at $112 with 2,730 shares changing hands, Sagicor Financial added only 588 shares and closed at $6.50, Scotiabank closed with 50 shares changing hands to end at $61 and West Indian Tobacco traded 50 units to close at $126.30.

Activity on the Trinidad and Tobago Stock Exchange continued to reflect a negative tone with moderate trading with 16 securities being active on Tuesday. The market closed with 2 stocks gaining, 4 declining with the prices of 10 remaining unchanged while 3 securities closed at 52 weeks’ low. A total of 442,470 shares changed hands valued at $11,853,292.
The Composite Index slipped 2.06 points to 1,162.50, the All T&T Index lost 4.11 points to 1,933.64 and the Cross Listed Index remained unchanged to close at 51.61.

Losses| Clico Investment Fund traded 42,892 shares valued at $969,213 but lost 13 cents to close at $22.60, Massy Holdings lost 4 cents to end with 50 shares changing hands at a 52 weeks’ low of $59.90. Scotiabank traded 2,000 shares but fell 69 cents to a 52 weeks’ low of $61 and Trinidad and Tobago NGL contributed 66,011 shares with a value of $1,326,933 but lost 69 cents, in closing at a 52 weeks’ low of $20.10.
Firm Trades| ANSA McAL contributed 10,005 shares at $66.25 for a value of $662,831, Calypso Macro Index Fund traded 122 units at $25, First Citizens had 17,714 shares valued at $619,990 trading to end at $35, Grace Kennedy traded 7,500 units, to close at $4.10. National Commercial Bank traded 133,554 shares changing hands for a value of $304,710 to end at $2.28, One Caribbean Media added 55,895 shares valued at $1,229,690 to close at $22, Republic Financial Holdings closed at $112 as 8,970 shares valued at $1,004,640 changed hands. Sagicor Financial ended with 500 shares changing hands at $6.50, Scotia Investments ended with 9,419 units changing hands at $1.58 and West Indian Tobacco traded 195 units to close at $126.30.
JSE pulls back sharply in early trading
The stock market pulled back with the indices falling in junior and the main markets. Scotia Group traded at $31 compared to nearly $35 on which the main market indices were based on Wednesday but the stock is up from the last traded price of $30.10 and Caribbean Cement closed down at $22 from $25.10 at yesterday’s close and Carreras fell $1 to trade at $59.
Sagicor Group traded a large amount of 5,000,160 units up to $24 but last traded at $23.01, Lasco Distributors traded 306,099 units at $8.50, Lasco Manufacturing had 218,219 trading at $5.15 and recently listed tTech has so far traded 226,147 shares at $5.49.
In trading 35 securities were active and accounted for 6,574,092 units changed hands after 90 minutes of the market’s opening with 13 stocks rising and 11 falling.
The all Jamaica Composite Index plunged 2,760.15 points to 175,952.24 the JSE Market Index tumbled 2,469.81 points to 158,377.63 the JSE combined index dropped 2,647.40 points to 169,292.43 and the junior market index fell 35.27 points to 2,320.00.
JSE down early Thursday trading
The JSE main market suffered reversal of the big gains recorded on Wednesday, as Scotia Group pulled back from the closing price of $31.49 to $30, helping to knock 1,006 points off the all Jamaica composite index and pushing the other main market indices down sharply as well. The junior market inched up a bit as trading volumes are light on the final trading day of 2015.
The all Jamaica Composite Index declined by 1,006.49 points to 165,379.60 the JSE Market Index declined 900.62 points to 148,917.14, the JSE combined index fell by 843.70 points to 156,609.79 and the junior market index is up 0.75 points to 1,792.90.
A total of 23 securities traded amounting to 423,132 units changing hands with 13 rising, while 4 declined.
Interesting trades include, Gleaner Company with just a small volume at $1.30 but now has a bid to buy 16,000 units at $2 with the offer at $2.50, this comes after shareholders in Radio Jamaica and the Gleaner voted on Wednesday to approve the merger of the Gleaner’s media business with Radio Jamaica. Pan Jamaican Investment traded just 4,140 shares at $94 for a $1 gain, Sagicor Group traded only 424 shares at $18.51 but has a bid at $19 which is 49 cents higher than they last sale price with only one offer at $20.05 to sell a mere 2,000 shares and Scotia Group traded 95,636 units with the last transaction at $30.
JSE drops in early trading
The Jamaica Stock Exchange recorded early gains in the morning session on Tuesday in the two local markets with Scotia Group rising to $31 with 60,000 shares trading but the stock fell back to and pulled the main market index down. The junior market which was marginally up early in trading has since slipped with more stocks being traded.
At 10:45 am, 29 securities traded as 11 stocks rose and 13 declined with 3,530,973 units changing hands. The all Jamaica Composite Index dropped 1,309.95 points to 161,463.90, the JSE Market Index fell 1,172.15 points to 145,413.34, the JSE combined index declined 1,307.79 points to 152,192.34 and the junior market index is down 22.52 points to 1,668.66.
Interesting trades include 138 Student Living that is having a third day of high volume with 1,754,230 at $4.50 today following Mondays 6,520,000 shares and Friday’s 59 million units. Cable & Wireless traded 668,782 shares at $1.39 but remains under selling pressure with weak bids and with the number and volume of offers being greater than the bids. Scotia Group traded 645,360 units with some being exchanged at a new 52 weeks’ high of $31 but it fell back to $28.60, down by $2.38 from Monday’s close and Lasco Financial traded 106,288 shares at $3.50 but now boast a bid at $3.55 to buy 58,543 units.
Majors up juniors down on JSE in early trading
The Jamaica stock market has recorded mixed fortunes in early trading as the main market recorded gains in the main indices while the junior fell marginally. A total of 28 securities traded as 14 stocks rose and 10 declined as 2,251,318 units traded.
At 10:45 am, the all Jamaica Composite Index is climbed 605.13 points to 159,773.14, the JSE Market Index rose 541.48 points to 143,900.43 the JSE combined index gained 462.15 points to be at 150,357.47 and the junior market index was down 5.50 points to 1,623.24.
Interesting trades, with 75 minutes having elapsed, National Commercial Bank traded 150,000 shares at $38..37, Scotia Group traded as high as $30.99 but fell back to $29 as the price rose by 50 cents, Lasco Manufacturing traded 381,180 at $3 and Pan Jam had 86,693 units trading at $92.21.
JSE drops nearly 2,000 points on Friday
The main market recorded big losses in on Friday, pushing the indices down sharply, with only 30 securities trading on Friday. The market closed with 5,339,621 units valued at $84,347,998 changing hands, in all market segments. A total of 7 stocks gained, 13 declined as 1 stock closed at a 52 weeks’ high.
The main market had strong gains over the past two days, helped on Friday by Scotia Group rising to $30, from $28. The JSE Market Index fell 1,784.13 points to 142,358.84, the all Jamaica Composite Index climbed 1,993.87 points to end at 158,050.32 and the JSE combined index dropped 1,998.71 points to close at 148,772.50. The market having broken through the 155,000 points resistance level on the all Jamaica chart faces the next test at 165,000, which could contain any strong upward movement over the next few trading sessions.

In trading, Cable and Wireless lost 10 cents and closed with 1,884,409 units changing hands at $1.28 after trading as high as $1.45, Caribbean Cement closed trading at $18 having with 25,850 shares changing hands. Carreras lost 40 cents and closed at $56.10 with 3,773 units trading. Grace Kennedy ended with 783,581 units changing hands, to finish at $78, Jamaica Broilers fell 30 cents in trading 657,940 shares, to close at $8.50. Jamaica Producers lost $1.50 in trading 596 units at $30.50, Mayberry Investments traded 300,000 units to end at $4.70, National Commercial Bank lost 50 cents and ended at $38 with 58,910 units changing hands, Pulse Investments traded 96,506 shares with a rise of 1 cent to close at $2.26, Sagicor Group with 107,647 units changing hands ended at $16.54. Scotia Group lost $1 with 96,044 shares changing hands and ended at $29, Scotia Investments dropped $3 with 4,000 units trading and closed at $27. Supreme Ventures fell 5 cents and ended at $4.85 with 220,000 units changing hands, Jamaica Money Market Brokers 7.50% preference share, traded 20,000 units at $1.90 and Jamaica Money Market Brokers 8.750% preference share, traded 42,000 units at $2.90 with the rise of 15 cents.

At the close, the Composite Index ended with a rise 1.74 points to 1,164.11 the All T&T Index fell 1.44 points to 1,956.55 and the Cross Listed Index gained 0.68 points to 48.90.

Scotiabank ended with 18,025 shares with a value of $1,125,890 changing hands at $62.50 after climbing 50 cents, Sagicor Financial ended with 39,287 units changing hands, 1 cent up at $6.15 and Unilever closed with a rise of 2 cents with 300 shares changing hands at $68.20 for a 52 weeks’ high.
Declines| Agostini’s traded 1,000 shares at $17.25 with a fall of 74 cents to close at a 52 weeks’ low. Grace Kennedy dropped 14 cents while trading 14,201 units with a value of $512,143 at $3.61, Massy Holdings traded 555 shares and lost 27 cents in closing at $61.65 to a new 52 weeks’ low and Trinidad Cement traded 11,540 units and closed at $4.55 after losing 13 cents.
