Tuesday’s trading closed with Jamaica Money Market Brokers trading more than 5.1 million units with 5 million being a cross of shares within the company, as in house trade but JMMB also sold shares to the public from in house inventory as well. Otherwise it was a relatively slow day except that trading picked up in the junior market.
At the end of trading on the Jamaica Stock Exchange, the prices of 9 stocks rose, 5 declined as 27 securities changed hands, ending in 7,105,912 units trading, valued at $40,386,959, in all market segments.

At the close of the market, the Composite Index rose 0.25 points to close at 1,151.01, the All T&T Index rose by 0.91 points to close at 1,984.60 and the Cross Listed Index increased by 0.19 points to close at 41.56.
Gains| Stocks increasing in price at the close are, Clico Investment Fund traded 168,480 shares valued at $3,832,536 and gained 9 cents to end at $22.74, National Commercial Bank with 100,000 shares changing hands for a value of $119,000, closed 3 cents higher, at $1.19, a new 52 weeks’ high. NCB closed with the bid at $1.22 (J$22) to buy 100,000 units but there were no stocks on offer at the close. Trinidad Cement contributed 39,350 shares to gain 4 cents to $2.30 and Unilever Caribbean stock price increased by 15 cents to end at $65.16, for a new 52 weeks’ high, while trading 250 units.

NCB Nkgn -2014 National Commercial Bank stock price hit a new 52 weeks high of $20 in trading on the Jamaica Stock Exchange on Monday with 1,066,318 shares changing hands. One million units of the stock was bought and sold by Stockbroker, Sagicor Investments at $20 each.
After three consecutive days of declining stocks beating out advancing ones last week, breaking the trend that was in place since the start of the year, with no trading day closing with number of declining stocks being more than advancing ones, activity on the exchange returned to the trend prior to the days of decline on Monday. At the close on Monday, the prices of 10 stocks gained, 6 declined as 23 securities changed hands, ending in 4,912,390 units trading, valued at $30,624,883 in all market segments. The positive advance, decline ratio did not prevent large declines in the main market indices as Carreras gave back most of the gain it enjoyed on Friday.

Carreras climbs $2.29 pushes JSE

Carreras 4 Carreras closed trading at $39.50 to end the day at a new 52 weeks’ high and Scotia Group after hitting $21.99 with 739,792 shares by mid-day, closed at $20.50 and were the main contributors to a strong increase in the main market indices on Friday. The gains were not adequate to stop the overall market from registering the third consecutive day of declining stocks out numbering advancing ones.
Activity on the overall Jamaican stock market, resulted in the prices of 6 stocks rising and 9 declining as 29 securities changed hands, ending in 5,019,576 units trading, valued at $36,430,375, in all market segments.

A big NCB sell off of US dollars

NCB Nkgn -2014 Jamaica’s National Commercial Bank bought US$4,366,621, at an average rate of J$112.31 to the USA dollar, on Friday, but sold US$17,178,604 at an average of J$112.66, the second time within a week, that the country’s dominant bank, was featuring heavily in the market. Last week Friday, National Commercial Bank bought US$20,408,481, at an average rate of $112.70 and sold only US$8,911,292 at $112.75. On Monday, this week Firstcaribbean Bank had a net sell off of US$6 million. The net sales come at a time when the beleaguered Jamaican dollar has been making slow gains, against the US dollar, having peaked at $112.87, on July 25.
FX sum 3-10-14In Friday’s forex trading, outflows exceeded inflows by nearly US$12 million. Authorized dealers purchased the equivalent of US$37,912,992 versus US$26,488,326 on Thursday, the equivalent of US$49,474,851 was sold compared with US$26,902,239 on Thursday.
In US dollar trading, dealers bought US$33,871,010 compared to US$22,597,931 on Thursday. The buying rate for the US dollar climbed 8 cents to $112.33 and US$46,851,454 was sold versus US$24,072,019 on Thursday, the selling rate inched down 1 cent to $112.64. The Canadian dollar buying rate, dropped $2.31 to $97.85 with dealers buying C$647,386 and selling C$431,934 at an average selling rate that rose 11 cents, to $100.80. The rate for buying the British Pound dropped 36 cents to $178.72, for the purchase of £1,641,087, while £971,922 was sold, at $180.17, down $1.69. Other currencies bought, amounted to the equivalent of US$867,036, while selling was for the equivalent of US$682,206.
FXHL 3-10-14Highs & Lows| The highest buying rate for the US dollar, closed with a loss of 15 cents at $112.80, the lowest buying rate was unchanged at $91.85, the highest selling rate rose $3.70 to $117.70 and the lowest selling rate fell back $16.34 to $93.66. The highest buying rate for the Canadian dollar fell 50 cents to $100.50, the lowest buying rate rose 30 cents to $80.10, the highest selling rate increased 46 cents to $103.50. The lowest selling rate dropped 15 cents to $96. The highest buying rate for the British Pound, dropped 25 cents to $182.05, the lowest buying rate fell 53 cents to $145.67. The highest selling rate jumped $2.58 to $188.48 and the lowest selling rate eased $3.40 to $174.60.

Heavy JSE trading but mostly crosses

Trading was heavy on the Jamaica Stock Exchange on Thursday with activity in 29 securities, accounting for 19,315,234 units changing hands valued at $138,385,972. There were a number of large trades as Barita Investment was involved in a series of crosses that helped to drive up the overall volume. At the end of trading the main indices declined but 13 stocks rose in price to 8 that declined. The stocks that dominated trades are Carreras, Desnoes & Geddes, Grace Kennedy, Jamaica Broilers, Jamaica Stock Exchange, National Commercial Bank, Sagicor Group, Scotia Group and Seprod.

More stocks decline as volumes jump

In Wednesday’s trading on the Jamaica Stock Exchange the prices of 6 stocks rose and 9 declined as 29 securities traded, resulting in 22,241,794 shares changing hands valued at $382,726,202.Scotia Investments was one of the brokers that was heavily involved in sales of some of the high volume trades while Pan Caribbean was involved in major crosses for a large portion of the Sagicor Group shares that traded but Scotia Investments was also involved in selling of this stock. Proven Wealth was the broker trading the block of Proven ordinary shares that was crossed. Mayberry Investments closed at a new 52 weeks low at the end of trading.
JSE sum 18-6-14Main Market| The JSE Market Index fell by 320.97 points to 69,940.79 and the JSE All Jamaican Composite index moved down by 358.91 points to close at 76,914.71.
Gains| Stocks recording gains at the end of trading in the main market are Ciboney with only 4,000 units to gain a cent and closed at 8 cents, National Commercial Bank with 2,072,226 shares valued at $35,858,252, closed with a 5 cents gain to $18.55, Pan Jamaican Investment with 745,000 shares with a value of $35,797,2500 closed at $48.05 for a 5 cents rise, Sagicor Group saw 9,543,413 shares changing hands worth $84,556,781 as the price closed up by 10 cents at $8.90 and Supreme Ventures with only 1,150 unis, gained 3 cents to $1.99.

Firm| The stocks in the main market to close without a change in price are Cable & Wireless with only 10,000 shares and closed at 27 cents, Caribbean Cement 10,050 units to close at $2.10, Desnoes & Geddes had 846 shares trading, to close at $4.30, Gleaner with 201,732 shares closed at $1.10, Grace Kennedy 1,561,330 shares valued at $84,411,820 to close at $54, Jamaica Broilers 838 shares closed at $4.57, Jamaica Money Market Brokers traded 99,448 units to close at $6.60, Kingston Wharves had 63,082 units changing hands as it closed at $5.05 and Radio Jamaica with 10,292 ended at $1.29.
Preference share| Jamaica Money Market Brokers 8.75% preference share with 306,100 units closed unchanged at $3.05.
Declines| The number of stocks that declined in the main market are Berger Paints with 7,863 shares as the price closed down 4 cents at $1.66, Carreras with 100 shares, closed with a decline of 5 cents to $33.95, Mayberry Investments 10,000 units, to close at $1.50, down by 15 cents for a new 52 weeks low, Proven Investments with 5,661,425 units losing 0.0001 US cents to end at 0.1799 US cents. Sagicor Real Estate Fund had only 2,100 units as the price dropped a cents to close at $6.09, Scotia Group had a big trade of 1,251,830 shares valued at $24,171,166, the price lost 10 cents to close at $19.20 and Scotia Investments with 16,353 units ended down by 90 cents, at $23.10
Junior Market| The JSE Junior Market Index declined by 0.63 points to close at 710.15 as 7 stocks traded with only one advancing and 2 declining.
Gains| General Accident Insurance was the only stocks recording gains at the end of trading in the junior market with 40,000 units as the price was up a cent at $1.37.
Firm Trades| The stocks in the junior market stocks that traded to close at the same price as the day before are Access Financial with 30,000 shares traded to close at $13.50, Blue Power with 2,452 units closed at $9.01, Medical Disposables with 3,000 shares to close at $2 and Paramount Trading 387,085 units to end at $2.68.
Declines| Stocks declining in the junior market at the end of trading are Caribbean Cream with 174,079 and closed with a decline of 5 cents to close at 70 cents and Consolidated Bakeries traded 26,000 units to close with a 2 cents fall to 80 cents.
