Near 3 years’ high for JSE on Monday

The Jamaica Stock Market started off the week on a positive note, closing at a 34 months high at the end of trading, on Monday. The JSE Market Index gained 848.12 points to 84,246.09, JSE cl qte-30-3-15the JSE All Jamaican Composite index rose 948.24 points to close at 92,909.34 and the JSE combined index climbed 805.21 points at 85,837.84. Monday’s closing All Jamaica Composite Index, is at the highest, since early June 2012.
A 70 cents gain in Scotia Group to close at $22.20 was the main stock that influenced the move in the indices. Jamaica Money Market had earlier traded at $7.99 cents, up 75 cents and would have also positively impacted the indices. Although the indices of the main market moved up strongly, it came out of almost even advanced declined ratio. Only 624,118 units traded in the main and US dollar markets. On a day of low volumes, the leading trades were National Commercial Bank with 120,019 shares and Sagicor Group with 104,619 units.

Sagicor dominant trade at $53m

Tuesday’s activity on the Jamaica Stock Exchange, resulted in the prices of 8 stocks rising, 6 declining as 23 securities changed hands, ending in 7,517,895 units trading, valued at $70,926,533, in all market segments. Sagicor Group accounted for $53.4 million of the trades.

Gains| Stocks gaining with last traded prices, at the end of trading in the main market are, Berger Paints concluding trading with 18,240 shares, gaining of 1 cent to $1.61, Jamaica Money Market Brokers finishing with 1,362,305 ordinary shares changing hands while gaining 31 cents to $7.26, Jamaica Producers closing with 2,412 shares trading 4 cents higher at $16. National Commercial Bank trading 6,225 shares while gaining 49 cents to $24.99, Pan Jamaican Investment finishing with 6,650 units with a gain of 4 cents at $55.05, Scotia Group closing with 255,000 shares traded with a gain of 12 cents to $21 and Supreme Ventures trading in 103,487 shares to end with an increase of 30 cents to $2.30.

Declines| The last traded prices of stocks with losses at the end of trading in the main market are, Jamaica Broilers closing with 89,424 units to close lower by 1 cents to $4.05, Kingston Properties finishing trading with 10,000 units as the price slipped 50 cents to $7, Mayberry Investments concluding trading with 100,000 units to close lower by 2 cents to $2.38, Sagicor Group in trading 5,081,242 units as the price slipped 5 cents to $10.55 and Seprod finishing trading with 1,662 shares changing hands 10 cents lower to $12.90.

TTSE 23-3-15 Declines| The stocks declining at the end of trading are, Guardian Holdings lost 50 cents to close at $14.50 while trading 945 shares and Republic Bank in contributing 49,933 shares with a value of $5,891,595 closed at $117.99, down 1 cent.
Firm Trades| Stocks closing with prices unchanged at the end of trading are, Point Lisas Industrial Port adding 3,000 shares to end at $3.52 and Scotiabank traded 332 shares to close at $62.01.

A total of 5,319,885 units changed hands, valued at $40,699,456, in all market segments.
The JSE Market Index lost 182.24 points to 81,699.09, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index fell 203.75 points to close at 90,061.68 and the JSE combined index dropped by 197.89 points to close at 83,533.22. National Commercial Bank closed at $24.50 after putting on $1 on the closing price on Friday. Sagicor Group had the largest volume of shares trading with 1,661,414.

Buying interest seemed to have picked up with National Commercial Bank trading to close at $25 with more than a half of the volume trading at the closing price and Sagicor Group had trading in more than 2 million shares, to end at $10.42 with no stock on offer at the close.
The JSE Market Index gained 507.16 points to 82,624.62, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index rose 567.03 points to close at 91,096.46.

At the close of the market, the Composite Index rose 3.05 points to close at 1,149.41, the All T&T Index fell by 0.12 points to close at 1,974.63 and the Cross Listed Index increased by 0.83 points to end at 42.47.
Gains| Stocks increasing in price at the close are, National Commercial Bank increased 12 cents to end at a 52 weeks’ high of $1.35 the equivalent of J$24.37 while it closed at $23.50 on the Jamaica Stock Exchange. The stock closed with a bid of $1.35 to buy 171,500 shares with no stock on offer. In Jamaica there are only 4 offers totalling 109,000 units between $25.50 and $33.
Declines| The stocks declining at the end of trading are, Clico Investment Fund traded with 28,280 shares valued at $636,542 and declined by 4 cents to end at $22.50 and First Citizens Bank contributed 40,141 shares with a value of $1,423,400, and closed 3 cents down at $35.46.

JSE at 33 months high

The stocks contributing to the upward move are mainly Carreras, National Commercial Bank, Pan Jamaican and Scotia Group. Investors should be watching the results for Scotia Group that is expected to be released today for clues as to what may happen to the market on Friday. Attractive gains in profit will encourage investors to buy the stock and that could move the price forward. NCB closed with only two offers of 103,000 units in total with the offer price moved to $30.

Helping with the increase was gains in 11 stocks, mainly in Cable & Wireless, Desnoes & Geddes, National Commercial Bank, Scotia Investments, Supreme Ventures. Todays move puts the market just 1,500 points from crossing over the resistance level of 91,700 points on the all Jamaica index. Todays gains puts the main market year to date increase at 7.3 percent.
