Declining stocks clobber advancers on JSE

VMBS Wealth acquired the bulk of shares trading in connection with the pension funds they manage.

The Jamaica Stock Exchange on Wednesday closed with main market indices dropping, with declining stocks far exceeding advancing ones. The market closed with a fairly high participation rate of 38 securities changing hands, resulting in 33,498,729 units trading, valued at $379,007,378 with only 6 stocks rising, 19 declining, in all market segments. The big jump in the level of trading took place with a switch in ownership to VMBS Wealth of the pension fund portfolio in stocks.
At the close, the JSE Market Index fell 262.83 points to 98,086.58. The JSE All Jamaican Composite index lost 293.77 points to close at 108,573.44 and the JSE combined index dropped 272.27 points to end at 100,777.77.

IC bid-offer Indicator| At the end of trading, in the main and junior markets, the Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator had a reading that reflects continuation of declining stocks having the upper hand over advancing ones. There was slightly less bias to the downside, than at the close of trading on Tuesday, with Wednesday’s reading of 7 stocks with bids higher than their last selling prices and 9 with offers that were lower.
In trading, Cable and Wireless fell 1 cent with 110,387 units and closed at 42 cents, Caribbean Cement had 54,911 units changing hands at $8, Carreras closed with 1,149,666 shares trading 50 cents lower at $49.49, with the bulk of the shares being a product of the VMBS Wealth pension portfolio shift. Grace Kennedy closed with 1,400,261 shares trading $64, Jamaica Broilers traded at $7 with just 1,000 shares changing hands, with a gain of $1.40. Jamaica Stock Exchange traded 2,105,142 shares at $7.89, JMMB Group traded 8,582,455 shares, including shares associated with the VMBS Wealth pension fund change, to close at $7.52, Kingston Properties had 664,191 shares trading for a fall of $1.01 to end at $6.99, National Commercial Bank traded 569,187 shares to end with a decline of 73 cents at $28.02.

Pan Jamaican fell 25 cents to end at $61 with 802,473 units changing hands, Radio Jamaica traded 37,900 shares unchanged at $3.01, Sagicor Group with 2,973,500 shares changing hands, closed 5 cents higher at $13. Scotia Group traded 198,010 units to close with a loss of 60 cents at $23.76, Scotia Investments traded 440,000 shares to close at $27.69 for a fall of 1 cent, Supreme Ventures ended at $3.40 with 13,828 units to be down by 40 cents and Jamaica Money Market Brokers 8.75% preference share traded 100,000 units to close at a 52 weeks’ low of $2.94, for a loss of 4 cents.

Scotia Group pushes market sharply up on Friday

The Jamaica stock market closed on Friday with strong movement in the indices to hit the highest levels since March 14, 2008 on the all Jamaica Composite index, for the JSE index it’s the highest since September 19, 2008. The market closed with 9 stocks rising, 9 declining as 29 securities changed hands with 5,441,593 units trading, valued at $44,801,033, in all market segments. 4 stocks closed at new 52 weeks’ high. Scotia Group was the main stock contributing to much of the rise.
At the close, the JSE Market Index jumped 1,849.21 points to 100,992.53, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index climbed 2,066.95 points to close at 111,821.48 and the JSE combined index rose 1,994.84 points to end at 104,636.95.

IC bid-offer Indicator| At the end of trading in the main and junior markets, the Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator had a reading of 7 stocks with bids higher than their last selling prices and 6 with offers that were lower.
In trading, Cable and Wireless ended with only 5,877 units changing hands and lost 4 cents to end at 40 cents, Caribbean Cement traded 47,000 shares to close at $7.10 after gaining 10 cents, Gleaner traded at $1.52, up 22 cents after 28,300 shares changed hands, in response the merger of the company’s media operations with that of Radio Jamaica. At the close, Gleaner closed with ten bids above the last traded price with the highest at $1.72, during the day the bid was as high as $2.22. Grace Kennedy traded 13,372 shares at $64, Hardware & Lumber lost $2.25 to close at $12.75 with just 2,006 shares changing hands, Jamaica Broilers had 11,888 shares changing hands, in closing at $6.37, to record a loss of 63 cents.

The Jamaica Stock Exchange stock traded 67,824 units at $6.80, for a loss of 20 cents, Mayberry Investments had 292,002 shares trading at $3.10 to gain 10 cents. National Commercial Bank had 35,410 shares trading to close with a 49 cents loss at $30, Radio Jamaica traded just 1,200 to end at a 52 weeks’ high of $3.90 as the price gained 45 cents. Sagicor Group ended trading with 1,017,852 units at $12.96, down 4 cents, Sagicor Real Estate Fund closed at $8.50 while trading 34,000 units, Scotia Group ended with 794,735 units trading as high as $26 but ended at $24, Scotia Investments traded 10,000 shares at $27.08 for an 8 cents rise and Jamaica Money Market Brokers 7.50% preference traded 166,500 units at $2.01..

The Jamaica Stock Market closed on Wednesday with losses in the main market indices with 10 stocks rising, 5 declining as 28 securities changed hands with 1,853,544 units trading, valued at $34,491,265 29, in all market segments with 2 stocks closing at new 52 weeks’ high. At the close, the JSE Market Index fell 296.39 points to 99,143.32, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index declined 331.29 points to close at 109,754.53 and the JSE combined index loss 198.77 points to end at 102,642.11.

Activity on the Jamaica Stock Exchange, resulted in the prices of 14 stocks rising, 10 declining as 33 securities changed hands, ending in 5,016,448 units trading, valued at $23,000,266 and 4 stocks closing at new 52 weeks’ high, in all market segments.

138 Student Living dominated trading with 12.2 million ordinary and 12 million preference shares changing hands accounting for $108 million. The Jamaica Stock Exchange, ended with the main market moving in the opposite direction to that of the junior market.
On a day the junior market reached a new all-time high with 7 stocks advancing and none losing, with 4 stocks closing at new highs, the main market slipped, with only 3 stocks advancing with all losses coming from this market. The markets closed with the prices of 10 stocks rising, 11 declining as 31 securities changed hands, ending in 28,982,879 units trading, valued at $131,346,625, and 7 new 52 weeks’ highs and 1 new low, in all market segments

Sagicor Group had 16,457 shares trading with a gain of 24 cents to end at a new 52 weeks’ high of $12.30, the stock closed with a bid of $13.20 to buy 1,000 shares, posted at 12:24 pm on Wednesday. Sagicor Real Estate Fund traded 63,800 stock units at $7.60, Scotia Group had 31,000 shares trading, to close with a 10 cents loss at $24.40, Scotia Investments fell $3.57 with 6,300 stock units trading, to end at $26.28. TheJSE Market Index lost 996.20 points to 97,498.24, theJSE All Jamaican Composite index fell/ decline/ rose 923.95 points to close at 107,915.70 and the JSE combined index dropped 1,138.33 points to end at 99,681.18.

Sagicor Group closed with 1,471,642 shares at $12, after shedding 15 cents, Sagicor Real Estate Fund finished trading with 18,896 units at $7.50, for a 50 cents fall, Scotia Group ended trading with just 473 units to close at $25.35 after losing 15 cents. Seprod finished trading with 10,162 units at $18 to gain 50 cents, Supreme Ventures ended with 55,747 units at $3.95, up 35 cents. Trinidad Cement ended trading with 105 shares to close down by at $15, Proven Investments closed with 721,573 shares at 19 US cents, after losing 1.5 US cents. Jamaica Money Market Brokers 7.50% preference share finished trading with 350,000 units at $2.30 and Jamaica Money Market Brokers 8.75% preference share traded 199,000 shares at $3.02 and lost 3 cents.

Activity on the Jamaica Stock Exchange, resulted in the prices of 9 stocks rising, 12 declining as 28 securities changed hands, ending in 1,649,208 units trading, valued at $11,833,234, in all market segments.
The JSE Market Index gained 112.16 points to 98,382.51, theJSE All Jamaican Composite index rose 125.41 points to end at 108,714.51 and the JSE combined index declined by 12.53 points to close at 100,575.43.
IC bid-offer Indicator| At the end of trading, in the main and junior markets, the Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator shows 12 stocks with bids higher than their last selling prices and 13 with offers that were lower. 7 of the lower offers are in the junior market and 2 are preference shares, an indication that main market ordinary

shares strength remains fairly intact at this stage and may be one reason the main market indices, recorded gains at the end of trading.

Desnoes & Geddes lost 44 cents in trading 5,000 shares in closing at $7.26, Grace Kennedy gained 35 cents with 9,905 units changing hands in closing at $62.50. Jamaica Stock Exchange slipped 15 cents with 43,700 shares trading at $3.35, JMMB Group had 73,345 shares trading with a gain of 44 cents to $8.89,

Margaritaville (Turks) ended with 100,000 shares trading at 10 US cents, Mayberry Investments traded just 1,020 units but lost 15 cents to end at $2.85. National Commercial Bank traded unchanged with 25,000 units at $30, Pan Jamaican traded only 1,700 shares to end with a gain of $1.19 at $60, Proven Investments closed with 17,700 units to gain almost a cent to 20.48 US cents. Radio Jamaica traded 50,000 shares unchanged at $2.58, Sagicor Group gained 50 cents in trading 135,347 units to close at $12, Scotia Group gained 36 cents with 2,190 shares trading, to end at $25.32. Scotia Investments traded only 176 units in gaining 35 cents to $25.85, Seprod lost 50 cents in trading 5,000 units at $17.50 and Supreme Ventures lost 30 cents with 10,727 units changing hands at $3.60.

Jamaica Broilers closed at a new 52 weeks high on Tuesday

In the first hour and a half of trading Tuesday, on the Jamaica Stock Exchange, the all Jamaican Composite Index was once more over the 110,000 market. It gained 322.01 points to 110,048.85 and the JSE Index was at 99,578.98, with a gain of 288.02 points.
By the end of trading, the market gave up all the gains and much more as the market continues to struggle to move away from the resistance level which it crossed over recently. The JSE Market Index lost 939.55 points to 98,348.41, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index fell 1,050.45 points to 108,676.39 and the JSE combined index dropped 1,010.08 points to close at 100,729.99.
Activity, resulted in the prices of 10 stocks rising, 12 declining as 35 securities changed hands, ending in 9,192,775 units trading, valued at $92,864,773, in all market segments. Only three new highs were recorded in the overall market, with Jamaica Broilers ended at $5.49 and Jamaica Stock Exchange at $3.55 as new 52 weeks closing highs in the main market.

In trading, Berger Paints as it traded at $2.55 with 14,650 shares, but there is a strong bid at $2.55 to buy 123,873 shares. Cable & Wireless had 306,000 shares trading at 47 cents, Caribbean Cement traded 292,100 units to close at $5, Carreras traded 211,982 shares to close at $49, Gleaner posted 322,432 units to end at $1, Grace Kennedy gained 5 cents to close at $63.55 with 45,627 units, the stock traded at $65 during the trading session. Jamaica Stock Exchange put through 83,000 units and ended at $3.55, JMMB Group lost 51 cents in trading 219,760 shares at $9.49, at the close. National Commercial Bank had 113,179 units trading between $29.50 and $30.20, the closing price, as 20 cents was added.

Sagicor Group traded down to $11 during the day but ended up with a decline of 1 cent at $11.99, at the end with 5,150,556 shares, changing hands. Mayberry sold more than 3.5 million units mostly at $11 from their inventory and Sagicor Investments was another major buying and selling broker of the stock. Scotia Group put on 70 cents to $26 with 8,794 units trading, Seprod had 136,611 units changing hands at $18.50, and Supreme Ventures traded 116,465 shares between $3.89 and $3.95 but ended at $3.90 and Proven Investments slipped by half of a cent in trading 61,517 units at 20.5 US cents.

19 stocks rose only 3 fell on JSE

Hardware & Lumber gained $1.25 to a new high of $12 in response to news that Grace is in negotiation to sell their interest in the company

There were only three stocks declining on the Jamaica Stock Exchange on Friday, while 18 stocks rose, compared with the last traded prices on Thursday, but the main market indices dropped more than 500 points as Scotia Group fell back to $25.16. The market closed with 19 stocks rising, 8 of which closed at 52 weeks’ high, 3 declining as 28 securities changed hands, well down from the 41 that traded on Thursday. In the end a total of 5,475,513 units valued at $56,463,857 traded, in all market segments.
The rally started last year fuelled by falling money market rates with Treasury bill rate falling from over 9 percent to below 7 percent. The current rally is be fuelled by rising profits from the majority of companies reporting first quarter results.
The JSE Market Index lost 507.33 points to 98,992.10, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index fell 567.23 points to close at 109,396.05 and the JSE combined index declined 237.32 points to close at 101,419.02.

Stocks in the main market trading to close at a 52 weeks’ high, are Berger Paints, Desnoes & Geddes, Hardware & Lumber, Jamaica Stock Exchange, JMMB Group and Mayberry Investments. In trading, Barita Investments ended with 622,050 shares changing hands to close at $2.35, Berger Paints closed with 55,162 shares trading, 27 cents higher at $2.35, Cable & Wireless finished trading with 619,569 shares to gain 1 cent to 47 cents, Caribbean Cement saw trading in 3,351 shares, to close 1 cent higher at $4.21. Carreras closed with 32,376 shares changing hands to close 35 cents up at $49.35, Desnoes & Geddes finished trading with 14,650 shares and gained 10 cents in trading to close at $7.20, Grace Kennedy concluded trading with 307,283 units trading with the last price unchanged at $64.50, Hardware & Lumber completed trading in 9,092 shares changing hands and jumped $1.20 at $12 as investors responded to news that Grace is discussing selling their stake in the company. Jamaica Broilers had dealing in 48,730 units traded at $5.16 to remain unchanged at the end. Jamaica Stock Exchange contributed 244,616 shares, the price jumped 60 cents or 21 percent in response to the company’s huge jump in their first quarter results showing profit of $87 million or 62 cents and ended at $3.50. Trading was halted for an hour after the price exceeded 15 percent. JMMB Group ended with 27,855 shares changing hands to close up by 10 cents at $9.60, Mayberry Investments closed with 12,289 shares trading at $3,after adding 12 cents, National Commercial Bank finished trading with 468,084 units unchanged at $30.50. Pan Jamaican Investment ended trading with 14,769 units 12 cents higher, at $58.25, Sagicor Group closed with 191,168 shares trading 15 cents lower at $12. Scotia Group finished trading with 88,383 shares changing hands to close 84 cents lower at $25.16, Seprod saw trading in 335,400 shares ending 25 cents up at $18.50 and Jamaica Money Market Brokers 7.50% preference share ended with 68,650 units trading with a 5 cents rise to $2.15.

Mayberry traded 2.7 million shares to close at $2.88.

Activity on the Jamaica Stock Exchange, resulted in 41 securities changed hands with the prices of 9 stocks rising, 21 declining and ending with 5,742,458 units trading, valued at only $25,119,327, in all market segments. The last minute trade in some stocks with just a few units, raises questions about their validity.
The number of securities trading on Thursday is by far the largest, since IC Insider has been reporting from 2013. At the close, JSE Market Index gained 404.52 points to 99,499.43, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index rose 452.29 points to close at 109,963.28, after trading over 110,000 points during the day and the JSE combined index gained 356.44 points to close at 101,656.34.

Stocks trading include, Barita Investments closed trading with 151,783 shares to end 11 cents lower at $2.26, Berger Paints had 9,858 shares trading with a gain of 8 cents to a 52 weeks’ high of $2.08, Cable & Wireless lost altitude by dropping 2 cents in trading 723,882 units, to end at 46 cents. Caribbean Cement trading 315,244 shares with the price falling to $4.20 rising back to $5, Desnoes & Geddes closed at $7.10 with 15,300 units trading, Grace Kennedy traded 106,525 shares to close down by 50 cents at $64.50 after trading as high as $65.25. The stock is unlikely to get any help in trading for the next few days as they reported lower profits in the March quarter with profit of $589 million versus $833 million in 2014. Hardware & Lumber traded just 1,750 shares to lose 25 cents to $10.75, Mayberry Investments traded 2,735,521 units up $3 but fell back to closed at $2.88, All the Mayberry shares were purchased through Mayberry Investments,

with JMMB Securities virtually all units with most being sold from JMMB inventory and bought by Mayberry for in house purposes. National Commercial Bank closed with a 51 cents loss with 92,298 shares trading to close at $30.50, Sagicor Group had just 14,630 shares trading at $12.15. Sagicor Real Estate Fund gained 68 cents with 9,427 shares trading, to end at $7.28, following first quarter report showing a big jump in profit to $570 million, from $242 million, in 2014, as the acquisition of a hotel in Montego Bay pumped up revenues and profit in the quarter, in the best period for income in the hotel sector. Salada Foods gained 25 cents with just 2,672 shares trading at $9.25, Scotia Investments ended shedding 25 cents while trading 2,150 shares to end at $24.75, Seprod ended with 120,515shares trading at $18.25 and Proven Investments had 5,000 shares trading to close at an all-time high of 21.25 US cents.
