J$31 offer for D&G shares spikes market

RED STRIPE  factThe main market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange indices jumped on the back of a $1 movement in the price of Desnoes & Geddes in response to an offer by Heineken for approximately J$31 per share for the shares it does not now own. At the close, there were 14 stocks rising, 3 declining with 21 securities totalling 2,920,468 units, valued at $33,633,857 changing hands, in all market segments, and with three junior market stocks ending at new 52 weeks’ closing high.
The main market indices enjoyed a day of decent gains. The JSE Market Index climbed 1,270.20 points to 99,072.69, the JSE All Jamaican Composite indexjumped 1,419.52 points to 109,675.59 and the JSE combined index jumped 1,316.98 to end at 102,980.98 points.

The D&G stock closed with a bid of $9.20 to buy the stock Jamaica Broilers closed at $6.50 with 29,188 shares changing ownership while gaining 41 cents, JMMB Group is worth watching having traded just 7,850 shares at $7.65 with a 1 cent gain but closed with the .JSE fn qts 7-10-15bid at $7.80 to buy 468,490 units with the closest amount offered being 51,500 shares at $8.50, the next amount offered is 9,171 units at $9.50. Kingston Wharves ended with a gain of 38 cents, to close at $7 with 301,000 shares changing hands. Sagicor Group with 1,659,265 shares trading, closed at $13.05, with a 5 cents rise, Scotia Group added 10 cents in ending at $24 while 164,793 shares traded and Proven Investments lost 2 cents with 25,000 units changing hands to close at 20 US cents.

TTSE build Trading on the Trinidad & Tobago Stock Exchange on Monday ended with 10 securities trading, none closed trading higher, 3 declined and 7 remained unchanged as a total of 726,330 units traded, valued at $8,967,357.
At the close the Composite Index ending with a modest loss of 0.81 at 1,146.32, the All T&T Index lost 1.61 to 1,948.42 and the Cross Listed Index was unchanged at 45.16.
Losses| ANSA McAL contributed 760 shares in trading, to close at $67.05 after losing 21 cents, National Enterprises contributed 27,273 shares with a value of $460,803 while losing 6 cents to end at $16.89 for a 52 weeks’ low and National Flour ended trading with 13,770 shares changing hands and closed at $1.90, after shedding 8 cents.

JMMB Group closed with 324,827 shares changing hands at 43 cents, One Caribbean Media traded 351,292 shares with a value of $7,728,424 with the price ending at $22 and Republic Bank with 3,731 shares changing hands for a value of $417,872 closed at $112.

Strong jump in JSE on Thursday

The main market indices enjoyed a second day of increases with the JSE Market Index added 77.06 points to 96,433.55, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index gained 86.11 points to 106,726.20 and the JSE combined index rose 180.75 to end at 99,807.18 points.

Activity was subdued on the Jamaica Stock Exchange on Friday morning, resulted in JSE Intra 25- 09-158 securities trading changing hands at 11 am with a big increase in volume of 758,247 units, with 1 stocks declining and 4 rising.
Trading activity resulted in the JSE Market Index rising 203.74 points to 96,030.99. The JSE All Jamaican Composite index rose 227.69 points to 106,276.32, the JSE combined index gaining 243.35 points to be at 99,289.24 and the junior market is up 5.71 points to 965.51.
The main trade so far are Jamaica Money Market Brokers 8.75% preference share with 659,996 units at $2.50 and Lasco Manufacturing that has gained 9 cents to be trading at $2.05 with 49,956 units.

The Jamaica Stock Exchange saw low activity with only 24 securities trading, the volume increased sharply from recent trading days with Cable and Wireless trading almost 11 million shares and Ciboney with just over 4 million units than on Thursday. At the close there were 11 stocks rising to 4 declining. The market closed with 24 totalling 18,198,760 units, valued at $28,814,733 changing hands traded in all market segments.
The main market indices enjoyed a second day of increases with the JSE Market Index gained 89.23 points to 95,827.25, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index added 99.71 points to 106,048.63 and the JSE combined index rose 167.49 points to end at 99,045.89.

This is an indication that while there is buying interest above current prices for a large number of stocks, there are still a noticeable number of stocks that investors want to be out of, at lower prices, than the last selling price.
Stocks that particularly weak are Hardware and Lumber with a last sale of $13 now being offered at $11.50. Grace Kennedy reported earlier in the year that they were considering an offer for this subsidiary at a maximum price of $18.50 and that the deal should be closed by the end of July. To date there has been no further information on the buy out offer, even as the July deadline is long past. Sterling Investments with a last sale of $13.40, now have on offer at $13.15, 242,600 units and no bids to buy.
Trading in the main market ended with Berger Paints trading 20,000 shares at $2.28, Cable and Wireless slipped 1 cent with 10,774,000 shares changing hands, to close at 49 cents. At the close the stock had 1,122,637 units on the bid at 48 cents and 172,996 units on offer at 51 cents. Carreras traded 224,067 shares at $49.50 while gaining 50 cents, Ciboney Group with 4,365,250 shares at 9 cents, Desnoes & Geddes ended with 135,000 shares trading with a 35 cents gain to close at $6.50, Jamaica Broilers had 35,930 units trading at $6.09, JMMB Group traded at $7.63 with 10,984 shares changing ownership. JSE fn qts 24-9-15 Mayberry Investments had 160,100 shares trading at $2.80, National Commercial Bank had 81,100 units changing hands and ended at $27.76 while losing just 1 cent, Sagicor Group with 80,000 shares trading, closed 1 cent higher at $12.82, Scotia Group traded 52,000 shares to close with a rise of 2 cents to $23.77. Scotia Investments traded 10,110 shares in closing at $24.53 with a gain of 1 cent, Jamaica Money Market Brokers 7.50% preference share 313,046 units at $2 and Jamaica Money Market Brokers 8.75% preference share 1,841,065 units at $2.50 fo a rise of 1 cent.

Activity fell back to moderate from a pick up on Tuesday on the Jamaica Stock Exchange on Wednesday morning with 15 securities trading compared with 25 securities changing hands on Tuesday after 90 minutes from the opening resulting in a volume of 1,068,132 units, with 3 stocks declining and 5 rising.
JSE Intra 23- 09-15Trading activity resulted in declines to the indices with the JSE Market Index falling 294.16 points to 95,295.06. The JSE All Jamaican Composite index down 328.74 points to 105,453.88 and the JSE combined index slipped 278.93 points to be at 98,457.69 and the junior market is down 0.13 points to 950.20.
The main trades are Cable & Wireless with 706,193 units at 52 cents, Scotia Group with 138,000 shares at $23.60, Supreme Ventures 41,160 units at $3.75 and Jamaica Money Market Brokers 8.75% preference share 100,000 units at $2.50.
