7 new highs as JSE moves higher on Tuesday

The Jamaica Stock Exchange closed on Tuesday with the All Jamaican Index is now 4,000 points away from the old record 138,917.59 reached on 24th of January 2005. By the close 7 stocks ended trading at 52 weeks’ closing highs. A total of 14 stocks rose, with 10 declining as 31 securities, totaling 3,337,233 units valued at $31,552,287 changing hands, in all market segments.
JSE Market Index shot up 1,073.37 points to 121,665.93, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index gained 1,199.55 to end at 134,924.82 and the JSE combined index jumped 1,219.53 points to end at a new high of 126,352.28.
IC bid-offer Indicator| At the end of trading, in the main and junior markets, the Investor’s Choice offer indicator had a reading of 15 stocks with bids higher than their last selling prices and 3 with offers that were lower.
In trading, Cable and Wireless closed with a gain of 4 cents as 276,100 shares changed hands to end at 55 cents, Caribbean Cement gained 1 cent to end at $12.01 for a new 52 weeks’ closing high, with 12,669 shares changing hands. Desnoes & Geddes had 317,100 units changing hands, to close at $30, Gleaner traded 29,300 shares at $1.72 with a loss of 1 cent, Hardware & Lumber exchanged 12,651 shares at $17.10 to gain $2.09, Jamaica Broilers fell of 46 cents in trading 318,500 shares to close at $7.54. Jamaica Stock Exchange had 32,622 shares trading at $8.60, JMMB Group traded 33,950 shares to close at $9, National Commercial Bank closed with a loss of 49 cents with 6,444 shares trading, to end at $31.50. Pan Jamaican traded just 1,539 shares at $65, to gain $2.49 for a 52 weeks’ closing high, Sagicor Group with 9,000 shares, closed 49 cents lower at $14.01, Sagicor Real Estate Fund with 135,265 shares, closed 51 cents up to $8.01, Scotia Group ended with 310,000 shares trading at $24.51 after shedding 69 cents. Seprod traded 2,621 shares at $14.50 with a 50 cents loss, Proven Investments ordinary share traded 240,268 units with a gain of 1 cent, to end at 23 US cents, Supreme Ventures ended at $3.75 with 42,015 units and JMMB Group 7.50% preference share exchanged 500,000 units at $2.

Another new record close for juniors

Caribbean Flavours traded at a 52 weeks’ high of $3.50.

The junior market ended at a new record high at the close, with 13 securities traded and the junior market index rising by 23.09 points to 1,285.78 with 1,356,689 units, valued at $3,717,777 changing hands while 7 stocks advanced and 3 declined.
The market ended with 5 securities closing with no bids to buy, while 4 had no stocks being offered for sale. A total of 8 stocks closed with bids higher than the last traded prices and 1 closed with a lower offer.
In trading, AMG Packaging closed with a loss of 8 cents with 26,909 units changing hands at $3.80 at the end of trading, Cargo Handlers ended with 712 shares changing hands, for a gain of $1 and closed at a new all-time high of $32, Caribbean Cream price slipped 7 cents and closed at $3.23 with 75,719 shares changing hands. Caribbean Flavours traded at a new 52 weeks’ high of $3.50 with 23,708 shares as the price rose 20 cents, Caribbean Producers traded 7,100 units to end at $3, Consolidated Bakeries rose 2 cents in traded 173,007 shares, to end at $1.20. Derrimon Trading ended with 335 shares changing hands to gain 3 cents and end at $2.33, Honey Bun had 10,222 units changing hands at $4, for an increase of 35 cents. Jamaican Teas had just 7,175 shares changing hands at $3.35, Knutsford Express traded 5,000 shares at $6.15 after adding 15 cents for a new all-time high, Lasco Distributors with 66,215 shares changing hands, closed at $2.83. Lasco Financial closed at a new all-time high of $2.50 while 549,875 shares changed hands with the price rising 24 cents and Lasco Manufacturing traded 410,712 shares to end at $3.35 after trading shedding 10 cents.

T&TNGL climbs $2 on TTSE

Trinidad and Tobago NGL traded on the Trinidad and Tobago Stock Exchange on Tuesday and gained TT$2 to close at a new high of $25 with 7,645,914 shares valued at $191,137,391 changing hands. The stock closed with a bid of $24 to buy 422 shares with 21,663 on offer at $25.
Activity elsewhere on the Stock Exchange, on Tuesday ended with 11 securities trading. At the close, there was just 4 stocks closing higher,1 declined and 5 remained unchanged as a total of 7,755,051 units traded, valued at $192,821,409.
At the close the Composite Index ending with a rise of 2.39 points at 1,152.54, the All T&T Index gained 4.74 points to 1,958.07 and the Cross Listed Index was unchanged at 45.52.
Gains| Angostura Holdings had 598 shares changing hands with the price gaining 1 cent to close at $14.01. Ansa Merchant Bank traded 200 units to close 1 cent higher at $38.95, Clico Investment Fund closed with 59,746 shares valued at $1,344,882 changing hands to end at $22.51, after gaining 1 cent and First Citizens Bank traded 1,636 shares and closed 1 cent higher at $35.01.
Losses| Guardian Holdings lost 1 cents in trading 10,0001 shares and closed at $13.12.
Firm Trades| JMMB Group traded 21,276 units and closed at 43 cents, Republic Bank closed with 459 shares trading for $112, Scotiabank ended with 19 shares trading to end at $62.50. West Indian Tobacco traded just 200 shares to close at $126 and Trinidad Cement had 15,000 units changing hands at $3.16.

Strong gains for JSE Tuesday morning

The Jamaica stock market after 90 minutes of trading, recorded marked increases in the indices on Tuesday morning, with the main market indices at new intraday high except the All Jamaica Index. Trading resulted in 27 securities changing hands with a volume of 1,487,849 units as 10 stocks gained and 8 declined.
The All Jamaican Composite index jumped 1,414.98 points to 135,140.25 JSE Market Index rose 1,286.13 points to 121,858.69, the JSE combined index rose 1,379.37 points to be at 126,5212.12 and the junior market index rose 20.60 points to 1,283.29.
In trading, Hardware & Lumber exchanged 12,651 shares at $17.10 to gain $2.09, Scotia Group had 210,000 shares trading at $25.70, JMMB Group 7.50% preference share exchanged 500,000 units at $2, Caribbean Cream had 71,219 units changing hands at $3.30, Caribbean Flavours traded at a new high of $3.50 with 20,000 shares and Lasco Manufacturing 233,792 shares traded at $3.40.

Newly listed T&TNGL rules on TTSE

The Class B Shares of Trinidad and Tobago NGL Limited was listed on the Trinidad and Tobago Stock Exchange on Monday and gained TT$3 to close at $23 from the offering for sale price of $20. The company saw trading in 18,000 shares valued at $414,000. The stock closed with a bid of $23 to buy 362,287 shares with none on offer, a good sign that the price is headed higher with a PE ratio of less than 10 times this year’s earnings.
The company generated an operating profit of US$15 million for the March quarter of 2015, a fall of 65.5 percent compared to the 2014 quarter. Earnings per share based on the annualised first quarter results, is 25 TT cents. A total of 75.8 million out of 116,100,000 issued shares, were offered to the public to raise $1.5 billion for the government of Trinidad and Tobago.
Activity elsewhere on the Stock Exchange, on Monday ended with 11 securities trading. At the close, there was just 1 stock closing higher, declined and 9 remained unchanged as a total of 33,337 units traded, valued at $651,432. At the close the Composite Index ending with a rise of 3.57 points at 1,150.15, the All T&T Index gained 7.08 to 1,953.33 and the Cross Listed Index was unchanged at 45.52.
Losses| Clico Investment Fund closed with 800 shares changing hands to end at $22.50, after falling 1 cent.
Firm Trades| First Citizens Bank traded 2,851 shares and closed at $35, Flavorite Foods contributed 2,200 shares in trading, to close at $4.80, Grace Kennedy had 2,502 units changing hands at $3.60, Guardian Holdings with 4,986 shares trading, closed at $13.13. Guardian Media traded 888 shares with the price remaining at $19.76, Massy Holdings traded 50 shares with the price ending at $62.46, Republic Bank closed with 28 shares trading for $112, Sagicor Financial Corporation closed with 950 shares changing hands, to end at $6 and Scotiabank ended with 82 shares trading to end at $62.50.

Forex trading volumes fall back – Friday

Inflows of foreign currency into the forex market fell to normal at this time of the year on Friday, but the Jamaican dollar held ground against the US dollar and gained versus the pound. The equivalent of US$28,906,392 was bought by dealers, compared with US$63,879,976 on Thursday, while they sold the equivalent of US$23,735,150 versus US$60,651,066 previously.
In US dollar trading , dealers bought US$25,241,490 compared to US$61,389,986 on Thursday. The buying rate for the US dollar fell 37 cents to $118.94 and US$22,798,959 was sold versus US$58,673,239 on Thursday, the selling rate remained unchanged at $119.59. The Canadian dollar buying rate rose 3 cents to end at $89.30 with dealers buying C$923,140 and selling C$599,587, at an average rate that rose 26 cents to $92.26. The rate for buying the British Pound climbed 67 cents to $181.65 for the purchase of £1,856,083, while £251,805 was sold, at an average rate that declined $2.20 to $181.50. At the end of trading, it took J$136.18 to purchase the Euro, with a fall of 55 cents from Thursday’s rate, according to data from Bank of Jamaica, while dealers purchased the European common currency at J$133.82 for a fall of 5 cents on Thursday’s rate. The US dollar equivalent of other currencies traded, amounts to US$137,268 being bought, while US91,463 was sold.
Highs & Lows| The highest and lowest buying rates for the US dollar ended unchanged at $119.90 and $98.11 respectively, but the highest selling rate ended 6 cents higher at $125.78 and lowest selling rate dropped sharply by $9.17 to $88.95. The highest buying rate for the Canadian dollar rose 24 cents to $93.74, the lowest buying rate climbed 96 cents to $73.75, the highest selling rate added 22 cents to end at $94.83 and the lowest selling rate jumped 50 cents to $88. The highest buying rate for the British Pound, declined 35 cents to end at $184.50. The lowest buying rate rose 42 cents to $148.74, the highest selling rate rose 12 cents to $189.06 and the lowest selling rate closed $2.32 higher to end at $176.50.

3 new record close on Friday

The JSE Main Index recorded an all-time high at the close of Friday on the Jamaica Stock Exchange of 120,592.56 points, the first time since April 26, 2005 with the then all-time high of 120,385.49 points. The newer JSE Combined Index and the JSE Select Index also recorded all-time highs at 125,132.75 points and 4,024.14 points respectively at the markets close on Friday.
The JSE Select Index enjoyed the record high from as far back as January 24, 2005, with a close of 3,714.71, the same day as the all Jamaica Composite Index. The junior market ended at a new closing record high of 1,262.69 on Friday but traded just over the 1,300 points level during trading on Tuesday October 13, to have hit the highest point in the history of that market.
In the process of scaling the new highs the JSE Select Index has gained 81 percent for the year to date and the JSE main Index put on 58 in 2015 to date. The junior market is up by 84 percent for this year has scaled a number of records this year on its way to today’s record close.
This now leaves the All Jamaican Composite index to scale the record high of 138,917.59 reached on 24th of January 2005 which is just over 5,000 points away. The market could face some resistance around 150,000 points on the all Jamaica composite Index.

JSE gained 13% for week

The Jamaica Stock Exchange closed on Friday with an increase of 2,717.47 points, on the JSE All Jamaican Composite index to end at 133,725.27, to cap the week with a huge 13 percent increase. The sharp move is due to the price of Desnoes and Geddes (D&G) jumping with a gain of 130 percent to add several thousand points, to the main market indices. The All Jamaican Index is now just over 5,000 points away from the old record of 138,917.59, reached on 24th of January 2005.
A total of 16 stocks rose, with 3 declining as 23 securities, totaling 2,743,449 units valued at $51,084,948 changing hands, in all market segments. A total of 4 stocks ended at new 52 weeks’ closing highs. The JSE Market Index shot up by 2,431.62 points to 120,592.56, and the JSE combined index jumped 2,568.39 points to end at 125,132.75.

Gleaner traded 23,000 shares at $1.73 to gain 3 cents, Jamaica Broilers traded 31,243 shares to close at a new 52 weeks’ high of $8 with a gain of 85 cents, Jamaica Stock Exchange had 36,200 shares trading at $8.60, for a rise of 65 cents as the company stands to see increased income, if trading continues to be bullish. JMMB Group traded 35,096 shares closing 50 cents higher at $9. National Commercial Bank closed with a loss of 50 cents with 24,100 shares trading to close at $31.99, Sagicor Group with 11,200 shares closed 50 cents higher at $14.50 for a 52 weeks’ closing high, Scotia Group ended with 114,012 shares trading at $25.20 after gaining 75 cents, Scotia Investments ended at $27.50 with 720,000 shares traded and Seprod traded 30,288 shares at $15 with a 5 cents gain.

The junior market closed with 9 securities traded and the junior market index was up 30.52 points to 1,262.69 with 1,086,466 units, valued at $3,165,918 changing hands as 7 stocks advanced and none declined.

Lasco Financial closed at a new all-time high of $2.26 while 175,263 shares changed hands, Lasco Manufacturing traded 370,646 shares to end at $3.45 after trading gaining 16 cents, Medical Disposables traded 45,000 at $2.52 for a 2 cents gain and Paramount Trading had 10,000 shares trading at $6.50 for a gain of 49 cents as the company recently reported increased profit for the August quarter.
