Trading on the Jamaica Stock Exchange in the morning session on Friday saw the junior market surpassing the 2,900 points level to trade at 2,938.01 points as trading in the overall market widened to 39 with as a number of stocks hit 52 weeks’ highs.
Noted trades include, Grace Kennedy with 110,077 units at $40, JMMB Group with 21,555 shares trading up to $17.50, Margaritaville Turks hit 33 US cents and 52,250 units changing hands, Sagicor Real Estate X Fund with 250,000 units at $10.50, Scotia Group with 304,114 shares up to a new high of $46, 
but the stock is offered at $42 and in the junior market, Blue Power Group with 1,200 shares at a new high of $50, Derrimon Trading with 40,400 trading at a new high of $7, with no stock on offer and Lasco Financial Services trading 287,245 shares at $3.86.
All major markets indices hit new records during the morning session but with moderate trading taking place. The all Jamaica Composite Index fell 802.01 points to 239,237.45, the Jamaica Stock Exchange Market Index lost 717.14 points to 218,295.34, the Jamaica Stock Exchange combined index declined 188.64 points to 232,624.89 and the junior market index jumped 46.34 points to 2,937.86.
Securities changing hands, amount to 44 at 10:45 am compared to 37 trading on Thursday. A total of 27 securities advanced and 6 declined, resulting in a volume of 1,902,696 shares changing hands, carrying a value of $36,902,558, versus 2,909,426 shares changing hands, carrying a value of $46,637,055, the average trade for the early session amounted to 43,243 units, compared to 78,633 shares previously.

All major market indices jumped sharply, with the all All Jamaica Composite Index surging 4,106.35 points to close at 240,039.46, the JSE Market Index climbed sharply by 3,671.80 points to finish at 219,012.48 and the JSE combined index jumped 3,678.17 points, to close at 232,813.53. The movement of the main market, for the year to date, resulted to gains of 14.2 percent, for the all Jamaica Composite Index.
At the close, 10,945,066 units valued at $124,588,506 changed hands, compared to 10,945,066 units valued at $162,330,186 changing hands on Wednesday. Of the stocks traded, the junior market accounted for 1,812,887 units, valued at $10,370,371.

Jamaican stocks in record climb

A fall of $4.98 in the price of National Commercial Bank (NCB) to $61.01 was not enough to do much damage to the main market indices in the morning session on Thursday, as a number of other stocks hit 52 weeks’ highs in trading.
Stocks trading at new highs include Jamaica Producers at $16.50, Mayberry Investments at $5.97, Scotia Group at $41, PanJam Investment at $34 and Sagicor Group at $33 and in the junior market Blue Power Group at $41, Consolidated Bakeries at $3.60 and in the US market Margaritaville Turks hit 29 US cents and Proven Investments at 25 US cents.

GOJ revenues beating estimates

Revenues for Government of Jamaica continue to outpace forecast, with the latest figures showing a 5.2 percent amounting to $17.4 billion increase over budget to December last year.
Revenues ended at $352 billion inclusive of capital inflows of $14.6 billion, compared with forecast of $334 billion. The main contributors company profit taxes and PAYE $2.4 billion each, and tax on interest, amounting to $2.8 billion. Special consumption taxes accounted for an increase of $2.3 billion, Education tax added $822 million, Stamp duties $1.3 billion and Custom Duties $1 billion. Travel and special consumption taxes and GCT on imports, cut $3.5 billion from forecast.
Capital spending is still running $5.4 billion below the target of $35 billion while other expenditure is under-spent by $3.7 billion, with wages down $5.2 billion and interest cost $3.9 billion, while other operating cost is up $4.3 billion over forecast.
The fiscal out turn, is a cut in the fiscal deficit by $26.6 billion, down to $23.7 billion.
