The JSE Market Index fell 177.07 points to 153,435.78, the all Jamaica Composite Index fell 197.89 points to end at 170,429.43 and the JSE combined index gained 83.78 points to close at 161,971.41.

Sagicor Group lost 20 cents with 153,610 shares changing hands at $23, Sagicor Real Estate Fund lost $1 in trading 2,200 shares to close at $10. Scotia Group had only 10,750 shares changing hands to close at $31 and Supreme Ventures closed with a loss of 10 cents at $4.60 with 224,418 units changing hands.

The Jamaica market continued to reflect uncertainty on Monday with a prices both rising a falling in a wide number of stocks in the same trading session. At the close 13 securities rose, 9 fell as 38 changed hands in all market segments. Trading resulted in 1 stock trading at a 52 weeks’ intraday high.

Caribbean Cement shed $5.50 to end at $24.50 with 203,998 shares trading, being one of the main stocks to pull down the main market index on Monday with the company reporting lower revenues and profits in the December quarter after taking a hit with redundancy cost. The JSE Market Index suffered a fall of 670.56 points to 156,699.28 the all Jamaica Composite Index dropped 749.39 points to end at 174,076.58 and the JSE combined index dropped 707.90 points to close at 165,348.32.

Investors pushed stock prices sharply higher on the opening day of the week on the Jamaica Stock Exchange with 48 securities changing hands in all market segments. Trading resulted in the prices of 26 securities gaining while 10 declined. Nine stocks closed at 52 weeks’ high and 1 at an intraday high, as 23,823,419 units valued at $153,664,407 changed hands in all markets. The junior market accounted for 19,268,579 units, valued at $109,445,668.
The JSE Market Index jumped 3,162.74 points to 162,457.79 the all Jamaica Composite Index climbed 3,397.05 points to end at 180,512.04 and the JSE combined index shot up by 3,534.54 points to close at 174,083.53.

National Commercial Bank traded 95,580 shares to close at $42 after rising by 50 cents, JSE fn qts 15-02-16 138 Student Living traded 299,100 units with a gain of 20 cents to end at a 52 week’s high of $5.50, after trading as high as $5.90. Sagicor Group fell 5 cents and closed at $23 with 38,760 units changing hands, Sagicor Real Estate Fund closed at $12 while trading 13,100 shares, Scotia Group had 73,100 shares changing hands with a rise of $2.50 to close at $34, Scotia Investments had 1,500 units changing hands at $29.80 after gaining 80 cents. Seprod dropped $2 to close at $20 with 20,137 shares trading, Supreme Ventures climbed 70 cents to close at $6.45, with 211,534 units changing hands, Proven Investments ordinary share traded at 22 US cents with 119,531 units and Proven Investments preference share traded 72,476 units to close at $5.

The Jamaica Stock Exchange recovered from two days of major losses in the main market indices on Tuesday with 47 securities changing hands in all market segments, 17 of which gained and 16 declined. Seven stocks closed at 52 weeks’ highs and 4 at intraday highs as 7,135,151 units valued at $62,892,474 changed hands in all markets. The junior market accounted for 1,181,038 units changed hands, valued at $6,522,458.
The JSE Market Index climbed 1,442.14 points to 160,316.87 the all Jamaica Composite Index recovered 1,611.67 points to end at 178,119.44 and the JSE combined index rose 1,323.61 points to close at 171,905.15.

Cable & Wireless traded over 51 million shares on Thursday on the Jamaica Stock Exchange as Sagicor Investments crossed more than 48 million on behalf of clients. The market continues to enjoy wide securities participation with 40 changing hands on Thursday in all market segments. At the close, 13 securities in the combined markets gained and 18 declined with the market indices climbing sharply.
Five stocks closed at 52 weeks’ highs and two traded at intraday high as 54,222,475 units valued at $114,953,664 changed hands in all markets. The junior market accounted for 1,498,422 units changed hands, valued at $9,013,294.
The JSE Market Index eked out an increase of 1,207.54 points to 157,025.07, the all Jamaica Composite Index closed with an increase of 1,349.49 points to end at 174,440.67 and the JSE combined index rose 1,080.44 points to close at 168,293.36.

Margaritaville Turks profit up 86%

Margaritaville+cargoThe Turks and Caicos based Margaritaville Turks, a Jamaica Stock Exchange US dollar market listed company, reported a big 86 percent jump in profits of US$518,134 in the six months to November last year versus $278,508 in the prior year.
The improved profit came from revenues that climbed 11 percent to $3.376 million. For the quarter ending November, the company reported improved results with net profit of $247,253, a whopping increase of 728 percent over the profit of $33,611 for the same quarter in 2014. Sales revenue for the quarter rose a very strong 24.7 percent to $1.65 million, compared to $1.32 million in 2014. Gross profit grew by 25 percent, slightly faster than sales revenue and for the six months by 10.7 percent.
Administrative expenses rose by 5.3 percent to hit $1.68 million for the six months and for the quarter to November to $829,364 for an increase of 8.7 percent. Management fees fell from $212,614 in 204 for the six months to $125,000 and for the quarter from $92,628 to $62,500. Depreciation charge was essentially flat at $123,748 for the six months and $62,444 for the quarter.
The company generated earnings per share of 0.77 US cents to November and 0.37 US cents for the quarter. IC Insider expects earnings for the full year to May to be around 2 US cents per share. This puts the PE of the stock at a low 5 times current year’s earnings.
Cash flows from operating activities amounted to $642,173 for six months versus $399,202 in 2014 before increase in related party receivables of $1.24 million and $685,495 in 2014 and ended with cash of $24,977. The equity capital stood at of $4.3 million and the company had no borrowed funds.

JSE pulls back again in early trading

The stock market pulled back again on Friday with the indices falling in junior and the main markets and adding to Thursday end of day losses as volumes remained relatively light after 75 minutes of trading. JSE intra 15-01-16The all Jamaica Composite Index fell 549.58 points to 174,562.41 the JSE Market Index tumbled 491.76 points to 157,134.01 the JSE combined index dropped 607.09 points to 168,621.96 and the junior market index fell 28.19 points to 2,264.88.
In trading 29 securities were active and accounted for 1,814,132 units changed hands with 12 stocks rising and 10 falling.
Scotia Group traded at $30.09 compared to nearly $34.99, the last traded price with 81,528 shares Barita Investments had 134,925 shares trading at $4.40, Margaritaville Turks came into its own after reporting profits of US$518,134 versus $279,000 in the six months to November last year, the stock traded 394,700  at 10.5 US cents, Radio Jamaica jumped to a new high of $6 with 32,400 units.
In the junior market, AMG Packaging traded at a new high of $11.05, Honey Bun is up to a new 52 weeks’ high of $7.18 and Paramount Trading at $10.50, Lasco Financial fell back to $4.20 from yesterday’s close of $4.75.

National Commercial Bank seemed to have reacted to the announcement of dividend consideration at the board meeting later this month and traded first at $25.50 and then at $26 with 105,554 shares trading. The stock remains scare and could be rising in the days ahead. Grace Kennedy had 46,721 changing hands at $62.05, Scotia Investment traded 76,000 units at $23.01. Lasco Manufacturing traded 352,851 units at $1.13, Margaritaville (Turks) had 68,510 units trading at 10 US cents as the company reported profit of 0.6 US cents per share for the nine months.
The main indices are up over 100 points so far and the junior market is up 7 points to 741.
