Trading gained strength on the Jamaica Stock Exchange Main Market on Friday with the volume of stocks traded rising 48 percent with a 188 percent rise in value compared to Thursday, after 60 securities changed hands compared to 55 on Thursday, with 23 rising, 20 declining and 17 ending unchanged.
A total of 8,306,314 shares were traded for $100,793,237 compared to 5,605,407 units at $34,963,663 on Thursday.
Trading averaged 138,439 shares at $1,679,857 compared with 101,916 units at $635,703 on Thursday and month to date, an average of 135,871 units at $1,223,350 compared with 134,495 units at $978,777 on the previous day. January closed with an average of 205,236 units at $1,805,558.
Wigton Windfarm led trading with 4.53 million shares for 54.5 percent of total volume followed by Massy Holdings with 699,277 units for 8.4 percent of the day’s trade and Sagicor Select Financial Fund with 435,064 units for 5.2 percent market share.
The All Jamaican Composite Index advanced 394.82 points to 381,036.58, the JSE Main Index rallied 796.94 points to 337,795.57 and the JSE Financial Index popped 0.13 points to close at 80.69.

Jamaica Broilers popped $1 to $30 with a transfer of 179,133 stocks, JMMB Group fell 48 cents to $34.47 with the swapping of 18,477 units, Kingston Properties gained 41 cents to close at $7.40 in switching ownership of 9,606 shares. Kingston Wharves advanced $1 to $35 with one stock unit changing hands, Margaritaville rose 95 cents to $22.95 with an exchange of one stock unit, Massy Holdings climbed $1.39 to close at $80 after 699,277 stock units crossed the market. Mayberry Investments rose 76 cents to $8.77 after a transfer of 101 units, Mayberry Jamaican Equities advanced $1.81 to close at $12.91 in an exchange of 1,055 shares, MPC Caribbean Clean Energy climbed $5.69 to $98 after trading one stock. NCB Financial declined $3 to a 52 weeks’ low of $77 after 122,024 units passed through the market, following the release of first quarter results to December with lower profit before other comprehensive income. 138 Student Living shed 44 cents in ending at $5.56 after 2,450 shares were traded, Palace Amusement climbed $201.99 in closing at $2,399.99 after switching ownership of 375 stocks. Sagicor Group rallied $2 to settle at $51 with the swapping of 25,843 stock units, Scotia Group lost 40 cents to finish at $34.50 as investors exchanged 353,714 units, Seprod dipped $1 to end at $65 in transferring 3,550 shares and Supreme Ventures shed 50 cents to close at $25 after 117,645 stock units cleared the market.
In the preference segment, Productive Business 10.50% preference share popped $150 after ending at a 52 weeks’ high of $1,250 with 30 stocks changing hands, Jamaica Public Service 7% gained 50 cents in closing at a record high of $6 in exchanging 128 shares and 138 Student Living preference share rose $1.50 to $75.50 with investors transferring 516 units.

Trading picks upon JSE USD market Friday
Trading picked up steam on the Jamaica Stock Exchange US dollar market on Friday, with a 12 percent rise in the volume of stocks exchanged, leading to a 61 percent jump in value over Thursday, following trading in eight securities, compared to seven on Thursday with five rising, one declining and two ending unchanged.
Overall, 291,324 shares were exchanged for US$20,906 compared with 260,566 units at US$12,989 on Thursday.
Trading averaged 36,416 shares at US$2,613 versus 37,224 shares at US$1,856 on Thursday, with a month to date average of 38,137 shares at US$2,421 compared with 39,121 units at US$2,311 on the previous day. January ended with an average of 48,604 units for US$4,865.
The JSE USD Equities Index rose 0.51 points to 223.44.

In the preference segment, Productive Business 9.25% preference share gained 89 cents to end at US$12 after trading 23 stocks. JMMB Group 5.75% popped 4 cents in closing at US$2.01 with investors transferring 4,215 shares and JMMB Group 6% ended at US$1 with 3,780 units changing hands.

JSE Main Market rise as Junior Market falls
Trading picked on the Jamaica Stock exchange on Friday and led to the JSE Main Market and the USD Market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange closing higher, but the Junior Market declined for a third consecutive day following the big jump it enjoyed on Monday and Tuesday.
Trading ended with an exchange of 15,002,754 shares, down from 11,852,477 units on Thursday, valued at $117 million up from $51.7 million on the previous day. Trading on the JSE USD market resulted in investors exchanging US$20,906 compared with US$12,989 on Thursday.
At the close, the Combined Market Index gained 557.08 points to 351,286.59, the All Jamaican Composite Index added 394.82 points to end at 381,036.58, the JSE Main Index rallied 796.94 points to end at 337,795.57, the Junior Market lost 19.95 points to end at 3,940.47 and the JSE US dollar market popped 0.51 points to close at 223.44.
The market’s PE ratio ended at 23 based on 2021-22 earnings and 13.9 times those for 2022-23 at the close of trading.

JSE USD market dips for a second day
Trading on the Jamaica Stock Exchange US dollar market ended on Thursday, with the volume of stocks changing hands declining 9 percent and resulting in a 33 percent fall in the value compared to Wednesday, following trading in seven securities, compared with seven on Wednesday with one rising, three declining and three ending unchanged.
Overall, 260,566 shares were traded for US$12,989 compared with 287,125 units at US$19,364 on Wednesday.
Trading averaged 37,224 units at US$1,856 down from 41,018 shares at US$2,766 on Wednesday, with month to date average of 39,121 shares at US$2,311. January ended with an average of 48,604 units for US$4,865.

All markets of the Jamaica Stock Exchange dropped on Thursday, continuing the losses on Wednesday, following slippage in trading in the overall market compared with the prior day.
Trading ended with an exchange of 11,852,477 shares, down from 19,398,419 units on Wednesday, valued at $51.7 million down from $95.1 million on the previous day. Trading on the JSE USD market resulted in investors exchanging US$12,989 compared with US$19,364 on Wednesday.
At the close, the Combined Market Index dropped 1,059.23 points to 350,729.51, the All Jamaican Composite Index shed 1,290.43 points to end at 380,641.76, the JSE Main Index fell 784.27 points to 336,998.63, the Junior Market fell 35.38 points to 3,960.42 and the JSE US dollar market slipped 0.54 points to close at 222.93.

Trading plunged on the Jamaica Stock Exchange US dollar market on Wednesday from Tuesday’s levels with a 74 percent fall in the volume of stocks changing hands with the value declining 48 percent from Tuesday’s level with trading in seven securities compared to eight on Tuesday with the price of one rising, two declining and four ending unchanged.
Overall, 287,125 shares were traded for US$19,364 down from 1,121,685 units at US$37,070 on Tuesday.
Trading averaged 41,018 units at US$2,766 versus 140,211 shares at US$4,634 on Tuesday. January ended with an average of 48,604 units for US$4,865.
