Record close for Jamaican stocks on TTSE

Trading on the Trinidad & Tobago Stock Exchange recommenced on Thursday, after a public holiday on Wednesday, with 12 securities changing hands compared to 11 on Tuesday.
The Jamaican based JMMB Group and NCB Financial Group moved to new 52-week highs of $1.70 and $5.31 respectively while Republic Financial Holdings led with 60 percent of the value of securities traded.
At the close, 5 stocks advanced, 2 declined and 5 were unchanged as 162,830 shares traded at a value of $1,808,056 compared to Tuesday’s trades of 452,687 valued at $3,307,105.
The Composite Index advanced 2.01 points to 1,248.64, the All T&T Index gained 0.18 points to 1,770.68 and the Cross Listed Index added 0.53 points to close at 97.71.
IC bid-offer Indicator| The Investor’s Choice bid-offer ended with 2 stocks with bids higher than last selling prices and 7 with lower offers.
Gains| Agostini’s ended with a gain of 1 cent and closed at $20.53 in exchanging 3,640 shares, JMMB Group traded 10 cents higher to a 52 weeks’ high of $1.70, with 106,000 shares trading, NCB Financial Group closed at a 52 weeks’ high of $5.31, rising 1 cent with 26,926 shares. Republic Financial Holdings gained 3 cents to settle at $101.79 with 10,572 shares valued at $1,076,113 and Scotiabank climbed 3 cents to $58.05 with 525 units changing hands.
Losses| The securities declining in trading are, Massy Holdings closing at $50.47, after falling by 3 cents in trading 411 units and Trinidad & Tobago NGL ended with a loss of 1 cent, at $23.01 with 1,930 units.
Firm Trades| Securities traded unchanged at the close, are Angostura Holdings closing at $15 with 1,000 units, Ansa McAL trading 740 units at $63.01, First Citizens ending at $31.76 with 3,000 shares, Grace Kennedy exchanging 3,391 shares at $2.90 and Guardian Holdings holding firm at $15.26 with 4,695 shares traded.

Trinidad Cement closed at $4.20 with 6,100 units changing owners, Trinidad & Tobago NGL traded at $22.50, with an exchange of 38,417 units valued at $864,348 and West Indian Tobacco exchanged 107 units at $127.

Republic dominates trade on TTSE

Republic Financial Holdings had the largest value of trading on Thursday on the TTSE.

Republic Financial Holdings dominated trading on the Trinidad & Tobago Stock Exchange on Thursday with 40 percent of the value of stocks trading. At the close 16 securities changed hands compared to 14 on Wednesday with 4 stocks advancing, 6 declining and 6 unchanged.
A total of 437,400 shares were exchanged at a value of $7,816,009 compared to Wednesday’s 391,982 shares valued at $3,344,255.
The Composite Index declined 1.68 points to 1,232.67, the All T&T Index fell 4.50 points to 1,800.47 and the Cross Listed Index gained 0.16 points to close at 89.21.

The market closed with 3 stocks advancing, 5 unchanged and 3 declining as 157,407 shares were exchanged at a value of $3,220,448 compared to Thursday’s 337,591 shares valued at $2,989,250.
The Composite Index lost 0.19 points to 1,242.51, the All T&T Index dropped 0.37 points to 1,822.77 and the Cross Listed Index remained at 88.80 points.

A 35 cents rise in the price of Trinidad & Tobago NGL was insufficient to wade of the negative impact of a 50 cents drop in the price of Trinidad Cement in preventing slippage in the All T&T index on the Trinidad & Tobago Stock Exchange on Thursday.
Market activity resulted in 15 securities traded, compared to 13 on Wednesday with 6 stocks advancing, 4 holding firm and 5 declining. The number of shares that changed hands amounted to 482,036 units valued at $3,773,912 compared to 95,386 shares valued at $2,016,084 on Wednesday.
At the close the Composite Index advanced 1.89 points to 1,223.91, thanks to gains in three Jamaican based stocks, the All T & T Index slid 3.19 points to 1,833.93 and the Cross Listed Index gained 0.96 points to 82.15.

Trading resulted in an exchange of 287,730 units valued at $3,325,149 compared to 166,719 shares valued at $2,032,545 on Friday.
The Composite Index gained 0.16 points to 1,215.71, the All T&T Index lost 0.69 points to 1,836.97 and the Cross Listed Index rose 0.14 points to 79.49.

The changes in the market indices were very small with the JSE Market Index gaining just 13.43 points to 97,452.41, theJSE All Jamaican Composite index rising by 15.01 points to close at 107,864.54 but the JSE combined index declined by 4.07 points to end at 100,255.47.

The big question with some profit taking on Friday is whether the market has enough fuel to clear resistance around 109,000 points on the all Jamaica Composite index on this leg of the rally, or will it have to wait until summer, when the market usually resumes it advance after what is normally a softening after mid-May. Even if it does scale the pending resistance there is another at 115,000 points which is likely to be the first real test before it moves on.
In the first hour of trading on Friday the all Jamaica Composite index was up 653.67 points to 108,085.44 and the JSE index put on 584.65 to 97,819.86, sometime after the indices slipped back with a fall in the price of a number of large company stocks. The stocks to watch for the week ahead include Barita with a bid at $2.30 with one offer at $5, Cable & Wireless with the bid of 44 cents, last sale 43 cents, Jamaica Producers with the bid of $18.52 and an offer at $25. JMMB Group having a bid at $8.72 versus last sale of $8.71, National Commercial Bank is well supported by NCB Capital Market with an undisclosed amount being bought at $30, Mayberry bid $2.75 to but 128,962 units. Pan Jamaican Investment bid at $58 and no stock on offer. Radio Jamaica with a last selling price of $2 and a bid at $2.20 and Scotia Investments with a bid at $24.80 against a last sale price of $24.50.
