Jamaican$ gains vs all – Wednesday

US$ 100Trading in the foreign exchange market resulted in the Jamaican dollar rising in value on Wednesday against all the majors as inflows closely match outflows. The market closed with dealers buying the equivalent of US$37,301,205 and selling US$38,602,992, in contrast to US$34,059,616 purchased and US$47,980,165 sold on Tuesday.
In US dollars trading, dealers bought US$32,987,100 compared to US$31,025,556 on Tuesday, as the buying rate for the US dollar fell 4 cents to end at $121.32. A total of US$35,699,871 was sold versus US$46,508,983 on Tuesday, the selling rate slipped by 1 cent to $122.02.FX trde sum 06-04-16 The Canadian dollar buying rate climbed $1.98 to end at $91.52 with dealers buying C$2,603,431 and selling C$2,102,347, at an average rate that dipped 29 cents to $92.49. The rate for buying the British Pound fell 11 cents to $169.77 for the purchase of £1,557,525, while £679,910 was sold, as the rate fell 94 cents to $171.52. At the end of trading, the selling rate for Euro, rose 1 cent to close at J$138.82, from Tuesday’s rate, according to data from Bank of Jamaica, while dealers purchased the European common currency at J$135.98 for a decline of 6 cents on Tuesday’s rate. The US dollar equivalent of other currencies traded, amounts to US$170,675 being bought, while US$353,865 was sold.

Trading the Jamaican Stock Exchange is off to a rocky start with the all Jamaica Index slipping almost 2,000 points, after 75 minutes of trading on Wednesday. JSE intra 06-04-16The junior market just inched up slightly. An average of 40,324 units of active stocks traded, up from an average of 27,804 units that traded in the prior mid-morning session.
A total of 25 securities, accounting for only 1,005,853 shares changed hands at 10.45 am as 7 stocks gained and 12 declined continuing the negative trend in place for some time. Jetcon accounted for 272,907 units and Sagicor Group accounted for 115,403 units, being the only companies to trade over 100,000 units. Of note is that Key Insurance traded at a new high of $3 but the stock was offered at $2.90 after wards.
The market saw all Jamaica Composite Index dropped 1,947.44 points to 167,103.72, the JSE Market Index fell 1,741.33 points to 150,462.43 the JSE combined index ending with a loss of 1,603.40 points to 158,159.93 and the junior market index rose 20.37 points to 1,812.24.

In US dollars trading, dealers bought US$31,025,556 compared to US$55,109,704 on Monday, as the buying rate for the US dollar rose 1 cent to end at $121.36. A total of US$46,508,983 was sold versus US$42,655,499 on Monday, the selling rate rose 7 cents to $122.03. At the end of trading, the selling rate for Euro, rose 35 cents to close at J$138.81, from Monday’s rate, according to data from Bank of Jamaica, while dealers purchased the European common currency at J$136.04 for a rise of 44 cents on Monday’s rate. The US dollar equivalent of other currencies traded, amounts to US$530,969 being bought, while US$256,601 was sold.
