Nine stocks traded to close at 52 weeks’ highs on Thursday as the Jamaica Stock Exchange’s junior and main markets exploded with the main market indices jumping between 2,832 and 3,371 points, as JMMB Group jumped to $12, Sagicor Group climbed to a new closing high of $22.51 and Scotia Group traded at an intraday high of $34.
The JSE Market Index surged 2,831.72 points to 157,084.38, the all Jamaica Composite Index soared 3,164.61 points to end at 174,506.95 and the JSE combined index leapt 3,371.69 points to close at 165,501.42.
At the close, 6,753,668 units valued at $75,464,922 changed hands in all markets with the junior market accounting for of 3,272,184 units changing hands, valued at $17,503,527. Trading was broad based with a total of 44 active securities in all market segments as 19 in the combined markets gained and 11 declined.
The main market seems on its way to 185,000 points level, the next major area of resistance having been moving well away from resistance around the 165,000 points level on the all Jamaica composite index. There is limited volume of stocks of some major companies on offer, suggesting that investors holding them see much higher prices ahead hence the need for buyers to increase their prices to obtain supply.

Cable and Wireless fell 3 cents, with 154,380 units changing hands to close at $1.32, Caribbean Cement jumped $5.50 to end at a 52 weeks’ high of $26.50, with 90,670 shares trading, Carreras closed at $61 with 5,873 units changing hands. JMMB Group traded 5,500 units and rose 90 cents to end at a 52 weeks high of $12, infrequently traded Kingston Properties had 43,707 units trading at $7.07, Kingston Wharves lost 40 cents in trading 155,819 units at $11. ICI -JSE fn qts 7-01-16 Mayberry Investments gained 5 cents with 11,010 units changing hands at $4.40, National Commercial Bank lost 50 cents to end at $42, with 140,765 units changing hands. Radio Jamaica had 10,000 shares trading 5 cents higher at $5.05. Sagicor Group jumped 51 cents to close at a 52 weeks’ high of $22.51 with 819,266 units changing hands, Sagicor Real Estate Fund traded 120,708 shares but the price dropped $1 to $10. Scotia Group closed with 550,504 shares changing hands at $30.10 for a gain of 8 cents, but traded at an intraday 52 weeks’ high of $34. At the close, the lowest offer to sell was at $34 with 17,939 shares and 3,895 units at $39.99 as supply of the stock has dried up. Bids were at $30.10 and lower with relative low volumes. Supreme Ventures ended at $4.66 with 103,650 units changing hands and Proven Investments traded 34,600 ordinary shares to end at 22.89 US cents.

tTech gains 20% to trade at $3 as JSE moves higher

The junior market was joined by two new listings on Thursday, following the successful IPO of CAC 2000 and tTech shares bringing the total junior market listings to 29. tTech opened trading at $3 with 7,809 shares to gain 50 cents on the IPO price, trading in the stock was halted with the price having exceeded the 15 percent circuit breaker rule before it reopened after an hour. CAC 2000 traded 1,000 units at $4.94 to record an increase of 9 cents from the IPO price of $4.85.
JSE intra 07-01-16The Jamaican stock market is off to more strong start in early Thursday trading with all major indices recording gains in mid-morning session leading to a number of stocks recording new 52 weeks’ highs up to 10.45 am. A total of 32 securities traded amounting to 1,003,134 units changing hands with 15 rising, while 7 declined.
The all Jamaica Composite Index rose 1,050.43 points to 172,392.77 the JSE Market Index gained 939.93 points to 155,192.59 the JSE combined index added 1,376.19 points to 163,505.92 and the junior market index is up 54.24 points to 1,901.16.
The big trade of the day is Lasco Distributors with 274,787 shares as the price jumped 49 cents to a new high of $6.50 and Sagicor Group with 34,368 shares at a new 52 weeks’ of $22.50.

In the Jamaican foreign exchange market, dealers bought the equivalent of US$41,941,236 and sold US$39,746,285, compared with US$35,703,146 purchased and US$43,237,725sold on Tuesday.
FX sum -06-01-16In US dollars trading, dealers bought US$36,834,944 compared to US$32,330,168 on Tuesday with the buying rate for the US dollar falling 7 cents to $119.77. A total of US$37,031,528 was sold versus US$41,672,381 on Tuesday as the selling rate slipped 3 cents to $120.43. The Canadian dollar buying rate dropped 42 cents to end at $83.35 with dealers buying C$2,592,782 and selling C$1,914,548, at an average rate that declined 17 cents to $84.93. The rate for buying the British Pound lost 31 cents to $173.50 for the purchase of £1,961,635, while £522,647 was sold, with the rate declining $3.38 to $172.84. At the end of trading, it took J$129.15 to purchase the Euro, FX HL-06-01-16 for a decline of 91 cents from Tuesday’s rate, according to data from Bank of Jamaica, while dealers purchased the European common currency at J$126.55 for a fall of 67 cents from Tuesday’s rate. The US dollar equivalent of other currencies traded, amounts to US$460,202 being bought, while US$614,449 was sold.
Highs & Lows| Notable changes to the highest and lowest buying and selling rates were a rise in the lowest selling rate for Canadian dollar by $1.46 to $81.46 and the highest selling rate for the British Pound, that fell $1.24 to close $182.16.

The Jamaican stock market is off to more measured trading, early Wednesday with all major indices recording gains in mid-morning trading but leading to a number of stocks recording new 52 weeks’ highs up to 10.45 am. A total of 33 securities traded amounting to 1,556,075 units changing hands with 14 rising, while 9 declined.
The all Jamaica Composite Index rose 661.58 points to 169,133.35 the JSE intra 06-01-16 JSE Market Index gained 591.99 points to 152,276.03 the JSE combined index added 8601.65 points to 160,235.23 and the junior market index is up 4.76 points to 1,843.75.
Trading volumes were generally low, but there have been some interest in a number of stocks including Cable & Wireless with 186,335 shares trading at $1.35, Gleaner trading 262,000 units at $2.50, Jamaica Stock Exchange with 37,839 units at $18.60, JMMB Group with 72,026 units trading at $10.45, National Commercial Bank with 5,168 units at a new high of $41, Radio Jamaica at $4.50 with 24,280, Cargo Handlers trading at a new high of $37.65 with 126 shares, C2W Music at 43 cents for a new 52 weeks’ high with 47,290 shares changing hands, Caribbean Cream with 54,293 units at $3.89, General Accident with 79,400 units at $2, Lasco Distributors with 3,538 shares trades at a new high of $5.72 and Lasco Manufacturing with 641,051 units at $3.50 after trading earlier at $3.60.

With less than half an hour to go before trading closed on Tuesday, the Jamaica Stock Exchange main market was posting gains just below 3,000 points, as Sagicor group jumped to a new high $22 with just 570 shares. By the close, a pull back in that stock along with Desnoes and Geddes, helped peg back the market to more subdued gains, to end at new closing record high.
The JSE Market Index rose 214.68 points to 151,684.04, the all Jamaica Composite Index gained 239.92 points to end at 168,471.77 and the JSE combined index gained 418.68 points to close at 159,633.58.
At the close, 5,096,460 units valued at $149,875,337 changed hands in all markets with the junior market accounting for of 1,801,000 units changed hands, valued at $7,668,101. Trading was broad based with a total of 44 securities being active in all market segments. Of the stocks trading 17 in the combined markets gained and 8 declined. Five stocks traded at 52 weeks’ closing high and 2 at intraday 52 weeks’ high as investors’ continue to push prices higher.

A total of US$41,672,381 was sold versus US$38,905,100 on Monday as the selling rate gained 9 cents to $120.46. The Canadian dollar buying rate climbed $1.06 to end at $83.77 with dealers buying C$1,870,425 and selling C$950,031, at an average rate that declined 17 cents to $85.10. The rate for buying the British Pound gained 69 cents to $173.81 for the purchase of £1,273,982, while £452,287 was sold, with the rate rising by 59 cents to $176.22. At the end of trading, it took J$130.05 to purchase the Euro, for a decline of 75 cents from Monday’s rate, according to data from Bank of Jamaica, FX HL-05-01-16 while dealers purchased the European common currency at J$127.22 for a fall of 80 cents from Monday’s rate. The US dollar equivalent of other currencies traded, amounts to US$217,825 being bought, while US$232,513 was sold.
Highs & Lows| The only major change to the highest and lowest buying and selling rates were recoveries in the lowest selling rate for US dollar by $79 to $117 and the lowest selling rate for the British Pound, that regained $94 to close $170.

TTSE build Activity on the Trinidad and Tobago Stock Exchange jumped with trading in 16 securities on Tuesday but two of the three market indices declined marginally with the two main indices as 6 stocks advanced and 5 declining, with the prices of 5 remaining unchanged. Three stocks traded at 52 weeks’ highs and one at a low as a total of 230,344 shares changed hands valued at $2,036,638.
The Composite Index ended with a fall of 0.14 points to 1,160.26, the All T&T Index fell 0.25 points to 1,943.74 and the Cross Listed Index remained at 49.61.
