JSE gains over 35% for October
A total of 39 securities traded, leading to 13,797,226 units valued at $170,547,669 changing hands, in all market segments. A total of 10 securities 15 rose and 17 declined with 7 ended at 52 weeks’ closing highs and one at an intraday 52 weeks’ high.
The JSE Market Index shot up 621.25 points to 131,284.04, the all Jamaica Composite Index gained 694.29 points to end at 145,673.61. JSE combined index climbed 706.30, points to end at 135,783.04. All Three indices are at new closing highs.
IC bid-offer Indicator| At the end of trading, in the main and junior markets, the Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator had a reading of 12 stocks with bids higher than their last selling prices and one with an offer that was lower.
In trading, Barita Investments ended at a 52 weeks’ closing high, of $2.75 as the price gained 19 cents while 3,000 shares were traded. Selling came in for Cable and Wireless on Friday. The stock closed with a loss of 20 cents, with 1,813,418 shares changing hands to end at $1.20. Trading in the stock was between $1.10 and $1.40 and it closed with a bid at $1.11, to buy 146,000 shares. On the offer were 830,752 shares at $1.20. By the close the number of offers increased dramatically and now total 32, ranging up to $3.10, for a total of 10,689,005 units with 10.68 million having a top offer of $1.80, the majority are at $1.50, or below. On the bid, between 80 cents and $1.11, are 4 million units. Caribbean Cement lost 27 cents to end at $17.73, with 67,416 shares changing hands. Unlike Thursday when the market closed with just two offers to sell 140,000 units at $24, at the close on Friday there were 11 offers on the board, between $17.89 up to $25 with more than 600,000 units. Bids are for over 230,000 units at $17.73, the next lot is at $16.80. Carreras ended with 1,001,700 shares trading at $53.05, a 52 weeks high, after gaining 5 cents. Desnoes & Geddes had 832,106 units changing hands, to close 15 cents lower at $30, Jamaica Broilers traded 93,884 shares to close at $8.88 as the price slipped 12 cents. Jamaica Stock Exchange closed with 20,000 shares trading to end at $11 and gained $1.25, for an all-time high, JMMB Group traded 184,433 shares to close at $9.51 after declining 29 cents. Kingston Wharves traded 10,500 units to close at $10, Mayberry Investment lost 10 cents to end at $4, by trading 918,658 shares.
National Commercial Bank with 112,524 shares changing hands, closed 50 down at $32.50, Pan Jamaican traded 6,888 shares to end 12 cents higher, at $80.12, Sagicor Group fell 85 cents with 3,120,466 shares trading, to close at $14.66, for a rise of 51 cents. Sagicor Real Estate Fund traded 262,107 units, the price closed unchanged at $11, Scotia Group ended with 8,000 shares changing hands and closed at $26.17, after falling by 81 cents. Scotia Investments gained 50 cents to close at $27.50 as 50,000 units traded, and Proven Investments ordinary share, closed with a rise of 1.9 US cents, with 445,000 units traded, to end at 23.9 US cents.
Bulls continue rampage on JSE
After clearing the near 11 year record high set back in January 2005 on Monday on Jamaica Stock Exchange bulls continued their rampage and pushed the market on Tuesday to a new record high of 143,154 points after adding 2,959.73 points on the all Jamaica Composite Index.
A total of 24 stocks rose, 10 declined as 40 securities, totalling 6,809,889 units valued at $47,476,253 changed hands, in all market segments. A total of 12 stocks ended at 52 weeks’ closing highs and 3 traded at 52 weeks’ intraday high. The JSE Market Index shot up 2,648.39 points to 129,029.81, a new closing high. JSE combined index climbed 2,323.43, points to end at a new closing high of 133,399.90.

In trading, Berger Paints traded 15,000 shares and gained 40 cents to close at $3.40 for a 52 weeks’ high, Cable and Wireless closed with a gain of 24 cents as with 338,626 shares changed hands to end at 52 weeks’ high of $1.26. The stock closed 76,499 units on the bid at $1.27 and with over 2,168,716 million shares on the bid at $1.26. Caribbean Cement gained $1 to end at $18.50 for a new 52 weeks’ closing high, with 193,583 shares changing hands. Cement closed with seven lots being offered amounting to just over 400,000 shares between $18.50 and $24. Carreras ended at 52 weeks’ high with 5,000 share trading at $53 after adding 98 cents, Ciboney Group traded 200,000 shares to end at 9 cents after gaining 1 cent. Desnoes & Geddes had 451,515 units changing hands to close at $30, Grace Kennedy exchanged 1,200 shares at $67.50 to close at a new 52 weeks High as the price gained $2.40, Jamaica Broilers traded 162,859 shares to close at $8.01. JMMB Group lost 45 cents in trading 115,050 shares to close at $9.75, Mayberry Investments traded 49,431 shares and gained 31 cents to end at a 52 weeks high of $3.81, National Commercial Bank rose 12 cents to end with 73,630 shares trading at $31.50. Pan Jamaican price traded 12,771 shares to end at $80, Pulse Investments traded 118,971 and close at 5 by gaining 4 cents, Sagicor Group lost 20 cents with 68,757 shares trading to close at $14.30. Sagicor Real Estate Fund traded 25,000 units as the price gained 80 cents to close at $10 for a 52 weeks’ high. Scotia Group ended with 125,411 shares trading closed at $26.50 after rising by 50 cents, Seprod traded 31,400 shares at $14.96, Sterling Investments traded 216,400 shares to close at $13, Supreme Ventures ended at $3.90 with 808,203 units changing hands and lost 10 cents. Jamaica Money Market Brokers 8.75% preference share, had 100,000 units changing hands at $2.70 and Proven Investments 8% preference share closed with a loss of 10 cents as 120,500 units traded to end at $4.95.
Sagicor Real Estate Fund tops trading on JSE
Sagicor Real Estate Fund traded 12,553,254 units days after the company reported a successful rights issue that raised $5.2 billion. Most trading took place at $6.95, in shares crossed by Scotia Investments as brokers for clients. The stock price ended at $7.50 at the close, after losing 50 cents.
Market activity generally, on the Jamaica Stock Exchange ended with just 31 securities changing hands as 19,174,117 units, valued at $129,515,704 were exchanged. Sagicor Real Estate Fund accounted for a large portion of the monetary consideration. Seprod also chipped in with a fair amount. At the end, 8 stocks gained, compared to 11 that declined in all market segments. The JSE Market Index declined 648.07 points to 98,149.98, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index fell 724.25 points to 108,644.42 and the JSE combined index lost 916.38 points to end at 101,195.27.

Big jump at JSE on Friday
At the close, the JSE Market Index jumped 1,849.21 points to 100,992.53, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index climbed 2,066.95 points to close at 111,821.48 and the JSE combined index rose 1,994.84 points to end at 104,636.95.

At the close, Gleaner closed with ten bids above the last traded price with the highest at $1.72, during the day the bid was as high as $2.22. Grace Kennedy traded 13,372 shares at $64, Hardware & Lumber lost $2.25 to close at $12.75 with just 2,006 shares changing hands, Jamaica Broilers had 11,888 shares changing hands, in closing at $6.37, to record a loss of 63 cents. The Jamaica Stock Exchange stock traded 67,824 units at $6.80, for a loss of 20 cents, Mayberry Investments had 292,002 shares trading at $3.10 to gain 10 cents. National Commercial Bank had 35,410 shares trading to close with a 49 cents loss at $30, Radio Jamaica traded just 1,200 to end at a 52 weeks’ high of $3.90 as the price gained 45 cents. Sharp JSE drop but 4 new highs
Trading concluded with 8 stocks rising, 8 declining as 22 securities changed hands, ended in 3,083,351 units trading, valued at $32,242,560 and 4 stocks closed at 52 weeks’ high in all market segments. Overall activity resulted in JSE Market Index declining 976.49 points to 98,050.05. The JSE All Jamaican Composite index lost 1,091.46 points to close at 108,532.55 and the JSE combined index fell 1,118.74 points to end at 100,321.85.

Jamaica Broilers had 48,938 shares changing hands at $5.75, National Commercial Bank in trading 2,970 shares, closed with a fall of 80 cents at $29.10, Pulse Investments closed at a new 52 weeks’ high of 80 cents with 63,000 shares trading, to gain 10 cents. Sagicor Group ended with 682,573 shares trading, at a new closing 52 weeks’ high of $13.50, Scotia Group traded at $23.21, a fall $1.44 from Thursday’s close, with 812,616 shares and Supreme Ventures closed at $4 a new 52 weeks’ closing high, with 96,275 shares trading and Jamaica Money Market Brokers 8.75% preference share traded 798,388 units, but lost 1 cent to end at $2.99.
JSE continues up
The market closed with a large number of stocks showing softness suggesting that there could be large number of declines evens as advances may pick up from today’s levels.

The JSE Market Index declined 284.62 points to 99,026.54 the JSE All Jamaican Composite index gained 318.14 points to close at 109,624.01 but the JSE combined index rose 223.92 points to end at 101,440.59 thanks to gains in the junior market offsetting declines in the main market.

Caribbean Cement had 117,440 units trading at $5.50 after shedding another 20 cents on top of 30 cents on Wednesday. Desnoes and Geddes traded 7,086 shares at $7.39 to end down 15 cents, Gleaner ended with 30452 shares changing hands, to gain 2 cents, for a 52 weeks’ high of $1.50. Jamaica Broilers gained 30 cents to reach $5.75 while only 2,000 shares changed hands, the stock closed with an off at $5.65, Jamaica Stock Exchange traded just 2,000 shares and shed 35 cents in closing at $5.75, at the close the bid was at $6.15. National Commercial Bank in trading 26,067 shares, to close higher by 86 cents at $29.90, Pan Jamaican rose 50 cents to $62 with 22,779 shares trading, the stock was mostly down on the day at $61.10. Sagicor Group with 20,883 units trading, ended unchanged at $13.01, Sagicor Real Estate Fund traded 80,000 units with a decline of 38 cents to $7.62 and Scotia Group that traded 106,740 shares to close at $24.94 to gain 43 cents but closed with the offer at $24.50. Jamaica Money Market Brokers 8.75% preference share traded 649,316 to gain 2 cents at $3.

JSE’s modest gains but 14 stocks rise
TheJSE Market Index gained 111.93 points to 98,494.44, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index rose 125.14 points to close at 108,839.65 and the JSE combined index put on 244.08 points to end at 100,819.51. Close to mid-day the all Jamaican Composite index ended had gained 755.19 points added while the JSE index added 675.46 points. and the junior market index gained 20.52 points to 883.66.

Other trades in the main market include Cable & Wireless with 459,765 shares trading at 47 cents, to record a 1 cent gain. Caribbean Cement traded 50,000 to close at $4.35 but traded as high as $4.80, Grace Kennedy gained 25 cents to close at $62.75 with 7,253 units trading, Hardware & Lumber traded only 3,000 units at $10.25 to $12, Jamaica Broilers had 27,400 trading as high $5.74 but closed unchanged at $5.50, JMMB Group has 955,266 units trading at $9 and gained 11 cents, Mayberry Investments traded 109,856 units to close at $2.85 with a 15 cents loss but traded previously at $3.National Commercial Bank had 100,819 shares trading at $30, Radio Jamaica traded 100,000 shares is at $2.60, Sagicor Group traded 466,995 shares with the price climbing 15 cents to $12.15. Scotia Group had 141,655 shares changing hands at $25.50 by putting on 18 cents, Proven Investments fell to 18.50 US cents with 78,150 units trading and Jamaica Money Market Brokers 7.50% preference shares ended with 728,100 units at $2.30 as the price slipped 10 cents.
At the close of the market Sagicor Real Estate Fund had a bid at $8.30 compared with the last sale price of $8, but only 100 units were on the bid and only one offer was posted at $10. Investors are responding to reported strong increase in profit flowing from primarily form the profit of the hotel acquired in 2014, but they may not be taking into consideration the seasonal flows of revenues and profit in the industry that see strong inflows in the winter months and lower amounts in the other months.
16 stocks rise 5 down on JSE
The JSE Market Index gained 413.98 points to end at 99,124.54, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index rose 462.85 points to close at 109,544.13 and the JSE combined index gained 544.39 points to close at 101,253.09. The market broke through resistance on Monday, and seems to be moving away from the latest test. The next test at 115,000 points that is likely to challenge the rally with earnings almost fully in in a few days. The added factor is the short-term moving average is lagging by a large margin the current market level and they will need some time to catch up with each other, if a correction does not take effect to bring more in line with each other.
