J$ held ground on Tuesday
The Jamaica dollar held ground against the US dollar on Tuesday with the equivalent of US$39,633,518 being bought by dealers, compared with US$54,993,668 on Monday, while they sold the equivalent of US$28,821,789 versus US$59,279,907 previously.
In US dollar trading , dealers bought US$37,263,331 compared to US$49,143,690 on Monday. The buying rate for the US dollar fell 10 cents to $118.96 and US$26,530,020 was sold versus US$56,411,806 on Monday, the selling rate remained at $119.47. The Canadian dollar buying rate slipped 47 cents to end at $88.59, with dealers buying C$679,495 and selling C$1,238,320, at an average rate that rose 49 cents to $91.91. The rate for buying the British Pound declined 29 cents to $179.95 for the purchase of £1,170,633, while £622,411 was sold, at an average rate that fell $1.05 to $181.55. At the end of trading, it took J$135.86 to purchase the Euro, with a rise of $27 from Monday’s rate, according to data from Bank of Jamaica, while dealers purchased the European common currency at J$133.37 for a gain of 30 cents on Monday’s rate. The US dollar equivalent of other currencies traded, amounts to US$93,293 being bought, while US$393,340 was sold.
Highs & Lows| The highest buying rate for the US dollar added 5 cents on Tuesday to end at $119.75, the lowest buying rate ended unchanged at $97.95, the highest selling gained 43 cents to close at $126.05 and the lowest selling rate climbed $1.94 to end at $99.88. The highest buying rate for the Canadian dollar rose 30 cents to $92, the lowest buying rate rose 42 cents to be at $73.46, the highest selling rate gained $1.47 to end at $95.80 and the lowest selling rate fell $2 to $86. The highest buying rate for the British Pound, rose $2 to end at $185.20. The lowest buying rate climbed 63 cents to $147.91, the highest selling rate dropped $1.87 to $188 and the lowest selling rate lost 30 cents to close at $176.

The JSE Market Index lost 530.18 points to 106,123.07, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index fell 592.50 points to 117,554.80 and the JSE combined index declined 247.57 points to end at 111,432.33.

National Commercial Bank closed with a small gain with 50,000 shares trading to close at $30.11, the shares of 138 Students Living lost 5 cents in closing at $4.15 with 1,200,000 shares, the stock traded at an intraday low of $3.90, Pan Jamaican Investments traded 147,199 shares at $61.56 with a gain of 56 cents. Sagicor Group with 586,567 shares closed 14 cents higher at $13.15, Scotia Group ended with 286,773 shares trading at $3.52 after losing 48 cents, Scotia Investments lost 5 cents in ending at $26 while 32,475 shares traded, Seprod traded 19,000 shares at $15 for a gain of $1. At the close the Composite Index ending with a rise of 0.25 points at 1,146.63, the All T&T Index fell 0.09 to 1,946.47 and the Cross Listed Index advanced by 0.08 points to close at 45.51.
Gains|Sagicor Financial Corporation closed with 131,000 shares valued at $784,690 changing hands, to end at $5.99,after adding 4 cents, JMMB Group traded with a gain of 1 cent to end at 43 cents while 2,727 shares changed hands and Trinidad Cement ended with a gain of 1 cent to a 52 weeks’ high of $3.16 with 5,000 shares changing hands.
Losses| Massy Holdings traded only 3 shares, the price ended with a loss of 2 cents at $62.46.
Firm Trades| First Citizens Bank traded 2,276 shares and closed at $35, Grace Kennedy had 4,206 units changing hands at $3.60,
Guardian Holdings with 4,640 shares changing hands and closed at $13.12. National Enterprises with 2,000 shares changing hands to end at $16.74 and Republic Bank with 10,050 shares with a value of $1,125,594 trading to close at $112.

JSE price changes fluid on Monday
Two junior market and 3 main market stocks ended at new 52 weeks’ closing high and 1 junior stock trading at 52 weeks’ intraday high. The main market indices enjoyed another day of decent gains. The JSE Market Index fell 6.27 points to 106,653.25, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index rose 7 points to 118,147.30 and the JSE combined index jumped 594.88 to end at 111,679.90 points.

JSE down as 14 stocks rise 11 fall on Tuesday
The main market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange, gave up about a third of the gains of Monday, when the main market indices surged sharply, with the all Jamaica composite rising over 2,000 points with the others just slightly below. At the close, there were 14 stocks rising, 11 declining with 26 securities totalling 2,430,349 units, valued at $25,713,681 changing hands, in all market segments. Three junior market stocks closed at new 52 weeks’ high.
The main market indices suffered declines with the JSE Market Index declining 613.31 points to 97,802.49, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index fell 685.42 points to 108,256.07 and the JSE combined index dropped 399.42 to end at 101,664.00 points.
