Wednesday was another day of more stocks rising than falling, on the Jamaica Stock Exchange but the indices fell, with the number of stocks rising, smashing those declining 20 to 8. AT the end, 35 securities changed hands, with 7 of the stocks with gains ended at 52 weeks’ high at the close. The market closed with 4,856,849 units trading, valued at $34,575,790, in all market segments.
The JSE Market Index lost just 78.06 points to 98,270.35, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index declined 87.29 points to close at 108,589.10 and the JSE combined index dropped by 142.03 points to close at 100,587.96.

In trading, Berger Paints traded between $2.58 and the closing price of $3 with 80,658 shares and ended with an increase of 45 cents, Cable & Wireless had 806,875 shares trading between 42 cents and 47 cents, to close at 45 cents, with a loss of 2 cents from Tuesday’s last price. Caribbean Cement traded 1,477,569 shares between $5.50 and the final price of $5.30 to gain 30 cents, Carreras traded just 2,871 units with a gain of $1 to close at $50. Desnoes & Geddes traded 197,238 shares at $7.70 at the end, by putting on 45 cents. Grace Kennedy posted 25,988 units but lost $1.40, to end at $62.15. Jamaica Broilers put through 136,039 units and closed at $5.50, 1 cents higher than on Tuesday. JSE fn qts 20-5-15Jamaica Producers traded at $20 with a gain of $1.45 with 3,303 shares changing hands, JMMB Group lost $1.04 in trading 81,226 shares at $8.45, Mayberry Investments had 280,022 shares changing hands at $3.10 after trading at $2.85 and added 10 cents at the close. National Commercial Bank had 136,390 units with all trading at $30. Sagicor Group closed at $11.50 with 820,961 shares trading 49 cents down at the close, Sagicor Real Estate Fund had 5,880 units trading at a new high of $8 to gain 80 cents. Scotia Group traded 104,903 shares at $25.01, Proven Investments 93,007 shares at 19.5 US cents as the price slipped 1 US cent, Jamaica Money Market Brokers 7.50% preference share traded 145,200 units at $2.40 and Jamaica Money Market Brokers 8.75% preference share traded 199,980 units at 3.05.

In the first hour and a half of trading Tuesday, on the Jamaica Stock Exchange, the all Jamaican Composite Index was once more over the 110,000 market. It gained 322.01 points to 110,048.85 and the JSE Index was at 99,578.98, with a gain of 288.02 points.
By the end of trading, the market gave up all the gains and much more as the market continues to struggle to move away from the resistance level which it crossed over recently. The JSE Market Index lost 939.55 points to 98,348.41, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index fell 1,050.45 points to 108,676.39 and the JSE combined index dropped 1,010.08 points to close at 100,729.99.
Activity, resulted in the prices of 10 stocks rising, 12 declining as 35 securities changed hands, ending in 9,192,775 units trading, valued at $92,864,773, in all market segments. Only three new highs were recorded in the overall market, with Jamaica Broilers ended at $5.49 and Jamaica Stock Exchange at $3.55 as new 52 weeks closing highs in the main market.

In trading, Berger Paints as it traded at $2.55 with 14,650 shares, but there is a strong bid at $2.55 to buy 123,873 shares. Cable & Wireless had 306,000 shares trading at 47 cents, Caribbean Cement traded 292,100 units to close at $5, Carreras traded 211,982 shares to close at $49, Gleaner posted 322,432 units to end at $1, Grace Kennedy gained 5 cents to close at $63.55 with 45,627 units, the stock traded at $65 during the trading session. Jamaica Stock Exchange put through 83,000 units and ended at $3.55, JMMB Group lost 51 cents in trading 219,760 shares at $9.49, at the close. National Commercial Bank had 113,179 units trading between $29.50 and $30.20, the closing price, as 20 cents was added. JSE fn Qts 19-5-15 Sagicor Group traded down to $11 during the day but ended up with a decline of 1 cent at $11.99, at the end with 5,150,556 shares, changing hands. Mayberry sold more than 3.5 million units mostly at $11 from their inventory and Sagicor Investments was another major buying and selling broker of the stock. Scotia Group put on 70 cents to $26 with 8,794 units trading, Seprod had 136,611 units changing hands at $18.50, and Supreme Ventures traded 116,465 shares between $3.89 and $3.95 but ended at $3.90 and Proven Investments slipped by half of a cent in trading 61,517 units at 20.5 US cents.

Jamaica Money Market Brokers 8.75% preference share finished trading with 153,398 units changing hands to close 2 cents higher at $3.02 and Proven Investments 8% preference shares saw trading in 26,805 units with the price ending unchanged at $5, after gaining 50 cents earlier in the day before falling back.

The Junior market closed at a new record to start off the week with 13 securities trading, with the price of stocks advancing and declining and closing at 52 weeks’ high. the most for some time, and ended with 1,683,746 units changing hands valued at $22,509,881 with Access Financial accounting for the bulk of the trade with Mayberry Investments selling 1,257,938 at a new high of $18, valued $21,452,426.
In closing at $18, Access is back at the IPO price before a ten for 1 spilt putting at the equivalent of $180 had the split not take place no other stock has performed so well on the Jamaica stock market in recent time. The stock was issued at $18 per share, making those who held on to see a 900 percent gain on their investment, plus dividends to add to the gains and the company is yet to stop growing.

There were only three stocks declining on the Jamaica Stock Exchange on Friday, while 18 stocks rose, compared with the last traded prices on Thursday, but the main market indices dropped more than 500 points as Scotia Group fell back to $25.16. The market closed with 19 stocks rising, 8 of which closed at 52 weeks’ high, 3 declining as 28 securities changed hands, well down from the 41 that traded on Thursday. In the end a total of 5,475,513 units valued at $56,463,857 traded, in all market segments.
The rally started last year fuelled by falling money market rates with Treasury bill rate falling from over 9 percent to below 7 percent. The current rally is be fuelled by rising profits from the majority of companies reporting first quarter results.
The JSE Market Index lost 507.33 points to 98,992.10, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index fell 567.23 points to close at 109,396.05 and the JSE combined index declined 237.32 points to close at 101,419.02.

Jamaica Stock Exchange contributed 244,616 shares, the price jumped 60 cents or 21 percent in response to the company’s huge jump in their first quarter results showing profit of $87 million or 62 cents and ended at $3.50. Trading was halted for an hour after the price exceeded 15 percent. JMMB Group ended with 27,855 shares changing hands to close up by 10 cents at $9.60, Mayberry Investments closed with 12,289 shares trading at $3,after adding 12 cents, National Commercial Bank finished trading with 468,084 units unchanged at $30.50. Pan Jamaican Investment ended trading with 14,769 units 12 cents higher, at $58.25, Sagicor Group closed with 191,168 shares trading 15 cents lower at $12. Scotia Group finished trading with 88,383 shares changing hands to close 84 cents lower at $25.16, Seprod saw trading in 335,400 shares ending 25 cents up at $18.50 and Jamaica Money Market Brokers 7.50% preference share ended with 68,650 units trading with a 5 cents rise to $2.15.

The Junior Market surged to a new high with the JSE Junior Market Index jumping 25.80 points to close at 892.20, leaving the previous resistance level of 840 points and is now poised to be heading to the next resistance around 1,000 points with the market having broken out of the range it’s been in since late 2011.
In market activity a total of 7 securities traded, ending with 2,307,958 units changing hands valued at $5,347,133. The prices of 5 stocks advanced including 2 securities closing at 52 weeks’ high and 1 stock declined. National Commercial Bank closed with a 51 cents loss with 92,298 shares trading to close at $30.50, Sagicor Group had just 14,630 shares trading at $12.15. Sagicor Real Estate Fund gained 68 cents with 9,427 shares trading, to end at $7.28, following first quarter report showing a big jump in profit to $570 million, from $242 million, in 2014, as the acquisition of a hotel in Montego Bay pumped up revenues and profit in the quarter, in the best period for income in the hotel sector. Salada Foods gained 25 cents with just 2,672 shares trading at $9.25, Scotia Investments ended shedding 25 cents while trading 2,150 shares to end at $24.75, Seprod ended with 120,515shares trading at $18.25 and Proven Investments had 5,000 shares trading to close at an all-time high of 21.25 US cents.

On Wednesday the main market pulled back a few points, having surged for much of the day, with triple digit gains. Thursday was the turn of the junior market to see an apparent closing, that was lower by a few points, with prices trimmed minutes from the close for a number of stocks. The Junior Market ended with 17 securities trading, the most for some time, if not for all times and ended with 296,055 units changing hands valued at $653,047.
The JSE Junior Market Index declined 2.59 points to close at 866.40, with the price of only 3 stocks advancing and 8 declining and 2 closing at 52 weeks’ high as Mayberry intervened with less than 2 minutes to close by selling a series of small amounts to push several junior market stock prices down.
For most of the day until after 12 noon, the index for the junior market was in record territory to an all-time high. In early morning session junior stocks had put on 13.39 points to 882.38 points a then record. Several very small trades executed on the sell side by Mayberry Investments at 12.52 pm pushed the prices of several stocks down.

Honey Bun had just one trade of a mere 2,729 shares with the price falling 40 cents, to $2.50, Jamaican Teas closed trading with 2,170 units and lost 25 cents to $2.65, Lasco Distributors traded 89,880 shares and dropped 20 cents to $1.50, Lasco Financial Services finished trading with 62,331 units, the price slipped 10 cents to $1.35. There was dealing in 9,629 Lasco Manufacturing’s shares as the stock traded lower by 1 cent to $1.34, Paramount Trading ended trading with 102,543 shares to end with an a fall of 28 cents at $3.71 and Derrimon Trading preference share finished traded just 1,000 shares to closed end up 25 cents at $2.25.
