Stocks down JSE main market up

The Jamaica Stock Exchange Main Market ended trading on Monday with the market rising after more stocks fell than rose after investors traded just slightly more shares than on Friday as the focus was on stocks selling with a low unit value of less than $1.35.
At the close, the All Jamaican Composite Index advanced by 1,062.28 points to settle at 405,212.68, the Main Index carved out a gain of 1,000.74 points to 369,854.08, the JSE Financial Index slipped 0.27 points to close at 95.07.
Trading ended with 42 securities changing hands compared to 44 securities on Friday and ended with the prices of 15 stocks rising, 19 declining and eight  remaining unchanged. The average PE Ratio of the market ended at 15.6 based on IC Insider.com forecast of 2020-21 earnings.
The market closed with an exchange of 12,952,662 shares for a mere $48,479,413 compared to 12,279,679 units at $35,735,006 on Friday.
Wigton Windfarm led trading with 6.77 million shares for 52.3 percent of total volume followed by QWI Investments with 1.70 million units for 13.1 percent of the day’s trade and Transjamaican Highway with 1.04 million units for 8.1 percent market share.
An average of 308,397 units traded for the day at $1,154,272 for each security, in comparison to an average of 279,084 shares at $812,159 on Friday. An average of 378,165 units traded for the month to date at $1,684,276 for each security, in contrast to 394,720 units at $1,810,039. Trading month to date compares adversely to July that ended with an average of 392,128 shares for $2,444,356.

At the close of the market, Barita Investments rose $1.04 to end at $58.89, while exchanging 276,971 shares, Berger Paints fell by $1.85 to end at $10.55, after trading 28,186 stock units, Caribbean Cement closed $2.50 higher at $44.50, with 13,756 units changing hands. Eppley declined by $2.35 closing at $15.10 in trading 496 units, Eppley Caribbean Property Fund climbed $3.32 to close at $49.50, with an exchange of 12,830 stock units. First Rock Capital lost 51 cents to end at $13.50, clearing the market with 3,913 stock units, Jamaica Producers Group carved out a gain of $1.10 to close at $23.85 after exchanging 18,550 stock units, Jamaica Stock Exchange rose 95 cents to settle at $23.95, with 55,562 stock units crossing the exchange. Key Insurance fell by $1 closing at $7.50, with 10,894 units changing hands, Kingston Wharves rose $2.80 ending at $53.80 with an exchange of 768 units, NCB Financial Group dropped $4.45 to end at $133.55  while trading 32,645 units. Palace climbed $222.83 to $1,783.83 and 9 stock units passing through the market, Sagicor Group dipped $1.49 to settle at $40.51 exchanging 44,579 units. Sterling Investments lost 30 cents to end at $2.70 with investors swapping 932 shares and Wisynco Group gained 39 cents to end at $17.99 with an exchange of 28,333 stock units.
In the preference segment of the main market, Community & Workers Credit Union shed 68 cents to close at $2.35 in transferring 534,711 shares and Eppley 8.25% gained $1.06 closing at $9 with an exchange of 404 stock units.

TTSE Trading contracts Monday

Trading on the Trinidad & Tobago Stock Exchange ended mixed on Monday after more stocks fell than rose after investors traded 43 percent fewer shares than on Friday.
The market closed with eleven securities trading with one advancing, five declining and five remaining unchanged as the market closed with just 70,293 shares for $1,363,080 changing hands compared to 122,491 shares amounting to $2,157,481 on Friday from 12 securities.
The trading ended Monday with an average of 6,390 units at $123,916 versus 10,208 stock units for $19,790 for each security on Friday. For the month to date, the average trade resulted in 12,183 units changing hands at $165,115, versus 13,094 shares at $191,061 for each security. July closed with an average of 12,712 shares for $166,390.
The T&T Composite Index shed 1.05 points to end at 1,321.68, the All T&T Index gained 0.70 points to 1,787.28, while the Cross Listed Index lost 0.38 points to close at 115.68.
IC bid-offer Indicator The Investors Choice bid-offer indicator ended with the bids of three stocks higher than its last selling price and three with lower offers.
Stocks rising Trinidad and Tobago NGL closed at $17.45, with gains of 20 cents while trading 2,761 stock units.
Stocks declining CinemaOne fell 60 cents to an all-time low of $4.40, after transferring 20 shares, Guardian Holdings lost 13 cents to finish at $19.35 and exchanged 510 units, JMMB Group slipped 7 cents to $1.93, trading 21,542 stock units. Republic Financial Holdings closed 23 cents lower to $141.27 in exchanging 10 shares and Scotiabank settled at $54.90, having lost 9 cents, with 1,000 stocks changing hands.
Stocks trading firmClico Investments exchanged 36,753 shares at $27.83, First Citizens remained at $47, with a transfer of 200 units, Guardian Media traded 585 units at $5.25. Massy Holdings held at $58, with 2,307 shares changing hands and Prestige Holdings ended at $8.35 trading 4,625 stock units.

Rising and falling JSE USD stocks tied

The US dollar market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange closed trading on Monday, with the market declining after investors traded more than twice the shares on Friday, resulting in more stocks falling than rising.
At the close of the market, trading ended with five securities changing hands compared to six on Friday and ended with the prices of two stocks rising, two declining and one remaining unchanged.
The JSE USD Equities Index lost 1.10 points to settle at 191.77 and the average PE Ratio of the market ended at 13.4 based on IC Insider.com’s forecast of 2020-21 earnings.
The market closed with an exchange of 774,661 shares, accounting for US$24,766  compared to 332,053 units at US$17,651 on Friday.
The market closed, with an average of 154,932 units trading at US$4,953 on Mondayin contrast to 55,342 shares at US$2,942 on Friday. Trading ended with an average of 66,102 units for the month to date at US$4,389 in comparison to 46,791 units at US$4,267 up to Friday. By contrast,  July ended with an average of 133,150 units for US$18,282.

At the close of the market, Proven Investments lost 0.18 of a cent and settled at 24.8 US cents, with 48,055 shares crossing the market, Sterling Investments fell a fourth of a cent to end at 2.23 US cents after 76,918 stock units changed hands. Sygnus Credit Investments added a half of a cent and ended at 17 US cents while exchanging 26,000 stock units and Transjamaican Highway added 0.02 of a cent in closing at 0.95 of a US cent in an exchange of 622,818 units.
In the preference segment, JMMB Group 6% closed the trading of 870 stock units at US$1.05.

115% gain for IC TOP 10 winner

Caribbean Cream rose 115 percent from the end of June to the closed of the week, with the price ending at $5.30, up from $4, last week and along with General Accident that closed the week at $7.50 and gained 70 percent since the start of May, are out of the TOP 10. Caribbean Cream gained 115% since the end of June

The two stocks sit just outside the TOP 10 with good potential to make further gains in the weeks and months ahead.
Coming back to the IC Junior Market TOP 10 are Lasco Distributors and Mailpac Group. Lasco Distributors profit is revised to 40 cents per share, for the current fiscal year, from 38 cents previously. The stock trades at a PE of 8 times earnings compared, with the average Junior Market PE over 11 and provides investors with the potential for substantial gains.
There was no change in the Main Market TOP 10 list for the week that saw the Main Market slipping modestly for the past week, while the Junior Market continued to inch higher, with a few points for the week, on top of gains in the previous two weeks.
The top three stocks in each market saw little change in the rankings, leaving the top three Junior Market stocks, with the potential to gain between 239 to 685 percent by March 2021. Caribbean Producers heads the list, followed by Lasco Financial and Stationery and Office Supplies.
The top three Main Market stocks, with expected gains of 191 to 223 percent, are Berger Paints followed by Radio Jamaica and JMMB Group.
This week’s focus: Former IC TOP 10 candidate, Barita Investments reported strong results for the third quarter and nine months to June with profit after tax hitting $991 million in the latest quarter, up modestly from $911 million in 2019 and for the nine months profit of $2 billion, up from $1.4 billion in 2019. Earnings per share ended the third quarter at $1.21 and $2.45 for the year to date. The broker house seems set to come close to IC Insider.com projection for the full year of $3.75. The company declared a dividend of $2.216 per share payable on October 7, with an Ex-dividend date, of September 21.
The targeted average PE ratio of the market is 20 based on the profits of companies reporting full year’s results, from now to the second quarter in 2021. Both the Junior and Main markets are currently trading well below this level, an indication of the potential gains ahead. The JSE Main Market ended the week, with an overall PE of 15.1 and the Junior Market at just 11.1, based on IC Insider.com’s projected 2020-21 earnings. The average PE ratio of the Junior Market has been slowly rising better profit opportunities the Main Market and narrowing the gap. The PE ratio for the Junior Market Top 10 stocks averages a mere 6.4 at just 58 percent to the average of the overall Junior Market. The Main Market TOP 10 stocks trade at a PE of 8.3 or 55 percent of the PE of the overall market.
The average projected gain for the IC TOP 10 stocks is 257 percent, for the Junior Market and 149 percent for the JSE Main Market, based on 2020-21 earnings, an indication that there is the potential to make greater gains in the Junior Market than in the Main Market.
IC TOP 10 stocks are likely to deliver the best returns up to March 2021 and ranked in order of potential gains, based on likely gains for each company, taking into account the earnings and PE ratios for the current fiscal year.  Expected values will change as stock prices fluctuate and will result in movements of the selection in and out of the lists for most weeks. TTSE inching slowly higher

The Trinidad and Tobago Stock Exchange ended trading on Friday, with the market inching higher after investors exchanged slightly fewer shares than on Thursday, resulting in more stocks rising than falling.
The market closed with twelve securities trading with three advancing, two declining and seven stocks remaining unchanged.  Trading resulted in 122,491 shares valued at $2,157,481 passing through the market, down from 131,310 stocks for $2,321,854 on Thursday from 17 securities.
The average trade on Friday amounted to 10,208 units at $179,790 versus an average of 7,724 stock units for $136,580 for each security. July closed with an average of 12,712 shares for $166,390.
The T&T Composite Index gained 0.63 points to 1,322.73, the All T&T Index rose 1.25 points to 1,786.58, while the Cross Listed Index was unchanged at 116.06.

JSE Main Market slips again

The Jamaica Stock Exchange Main Market ended trading on Friday with the market declining for a third consecutive trading day after more stocks rose than fell after the market activity, resulted in a 61 percent increase in shares changing hands than on Wednesday.
At the close, the All Jamaican Composite Index declined 714.74 points to close at 404,150.40, the Main Index shed 703.29 points to settle at 368,853.34 and JSE Financial Index fell 0.43 points to end at 95.34.
Trading ended with 44 securities changing hands with the prices of 21  stocks rising, the prices of 16 declining and seven remaining unchanged and the average PE Ratio of the market ended at 15.4 based on IC Insider.com’s forecast of 2020-21 earnings.
The market closed with an exchange of 12,279,679 shares for $35,735,006  compared to 7,635,914 units at $44,926,751  on Wednesday. Transjamaican Highway led trading with 6.28 million shares for 51 percent of total volume, followed by Wigton Windfarm with 2.11 million units for 17.2 percent of the day’s trade. Newly listed Community & Workers Credit Union Preference share traded with 1.32 million units for 10.7 percent market share and Ciboney Group was the only other stock to exceed a million shares to end with 1.07 million units changing hands.
The average trade for the day was 279,084 units at $812,159 for each security, in comparison to 173,544 shares at $1,021,063 on Wednesday. An average of 394,720 units traded for the month to date at $1,810,039 for each security that traded, in contrast to 432,976 units at $2,140,165. Trading month to date compares well to July that ended with an average of 392,128 shares for $2,444,356.

Sagicor Real Estate Fund gained $1.02 to end at $8.88 while exchanging 110 stock units, Seprod gained 96 cents to settle at $56.96, with 36,600 shares crossing the exchange and Wisynco Group advanced 50 cents to $17.60 with investors wapping 85,689 stock units.
In the preference segment of the main market, Eppley 8.25% advanced $1.04 to close at a 52 weeks’ high of $7.94, with 100 stock units changing hands.

Mild recovery for Junior Market

The Junior Market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange resumed trading after closing for the Independence Day on Thursday and ended trading on Friday, with the market rising after slightly more stocks rose than declined after investors exchanged 49 percent more shares than on Wednesday.
Trading ended with 31 securities changing hands compared to 30 on Wednesday and ended with the prices of 13 stocks rising, 12 declining and seven ending with prices remaining unchanged.
At the close, the market index rose 11.93 points to close at 2,606.15 and the average PE Ratio of the market ended at 10.6 based on IC Insider.com’s forecast of 2020-21 earnings.
The market closed with an exchange of 2,637,466 shares for $9,741,864 compared to 1,769,437 units at $5,986,775 on Wednesday.
Main Event led trading with 607,726 shares for 23 percent of total volume followed by Mailpac Group with 576,774 units for 22 percent of the day’s trade and General Accident with 283,368 units for 10.7 percent market share.
Trading ended with an average of 85,080 units at $314,254 in contrast to 58,981 at $199,559 on Wednesday. JSE USD market record gains

The US dollar market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange closed trading on Friday, with the market index rising after investors traded four times more shares than on Wednesday, resulting in stocks rising outnumbering declining ones.
At the close of the market, trading ended with six securities changing hands with the prices of four stocks rising, one declining and one remaining unchanged.
The JSE USD Equities Index rose 4.19 points to settle at 192.87, with the average PE Ratio of the market ended at 13.6 based on IC Insider.com’s forecast of 2020-21 earnings.
The market closed with an exchange of 332,053 shares, accounting for US$17,651 compared to 83,915 units at US$19,876 on Wednesday.
Trading resulted in an average of 55,342 units at US$2,942 changing hands on Friday, in contrast to 11,988 shares at US$2,839 on Wednesday. Trading ended with an average of 46,791 units for the month to date at US$4,267, in contrast to 43,773 units at US$4,734. By comparison, July ended with an average of 133,150 units for US$18,282.

Some of Wednesday’s TTSE gains eroded

The Trinidad and Tobago Stock Exchange gave back some of Wednesday’s gains when trading closed on Thursday, with the market rising after investors traded 34 percent fewer shares than on Wednesday, even as more stocks rose than declined.
The market closed with seventeen securities trading with three stocks advancing, two declining and twelve remained unchanged.  The volume of stocks passing through the market amounted to 131,310 shares valued at $2,321,854 compared to 198,535 shares valued at $3,608,553 on Wednesday from fifteen securities.
The average trade on Wednesday amounted to 7,724 shares at $136,580 versus an average of 13,236 stocks at $240,570 for each security. For the month to date, trading resulted in an average of 13,691 units for $193,393, compared to an average of 16,165 units for $216,950 up to Tuesday, which is above the average for July of 12,712 shares for $166,390.
At the close of the market, the T&T Composite Index fell 2.87 points to end at 1,322.10. The All T&T Index lost 6.75 points to 1,785.33, while the Cross Listed Index added 0.15 points to 116.06.

Clico Investments closed at $27.85, with a transfer of 36,232 shares, First Caribbean International Bank closed at $7 after transferring 2,000 stock units. Massy Holdings traded 2,316 units at $58, NCB Financial ended at $7.86, with 393 stock units crossing the market, One Caribbean Media exchanged 19,920 stock units at $5.25. Prestige Holdings closed at $8.35 in exchanging a mere five stocks and Republic Financial Holdings closed at $141 after an exchange of 356 shares and Unilever Caribbean traded 29,303 stocks to end at $16.90.

Junior Market slips on Wednesday

The Junior Market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange ended trading on Wednesday with the market index declining after slightly more stocks fell than rose after investors traded nine percent more shares than on Tuesday.
Trading ended with 30 securities changing hands, down from 34 on Tuesday and ended with the prices of 12 stocks rising, 13 declining and five ended, with unchanged prices.
At the close, the Junior Market Index carved out a loss 24.83 points to settle at 2,594.22 and the average PE Ratio of the market ended at 10.5 based on IC Insider.com’s forecast of 2020-21 earnings.
On a day of low volume, the market closed with an exchange of 1,769,437 shares for $5,986,775 compared to 1,625,055 units at $5,194,150 on Tuesday, with Mailpac Group ended as the leading trade with 612,063 shares for 34.6 percent of total volume. Fontana followed, with 252,183 units for 14.3 percent of the day’s trade and Derrimon Trading with 209,765 units for 12 percent market share.
The average traded for the date was 58,981 units at $199,559, in contrast to an average of 47,796 at $152,769 on Tuesday. An average of 138,617 units traded at $363,147 for the month to date, in comparison to 174,816 units at $437,506. Trading in July resulted in an average of 248,153 units at $668,727 trading.
