Sharp swings in flat week on JSE

JSE main market moving away from resistance level.

The Jamaica Stock Exchange, closed the week the way it stated, with rising prices, but fluctuation in prices, saw sharp swings in the main indices during the week, leaving the market just a few points below the levels it closed the week before. Activity in the market on Friday, resulted in the prices of 10 stocks rising and only 2 declining as just 15 securities changed hands, ending in 1,435,606 units trading, valued at $30,163,670, in all market segments.
IC bid-offer Indicator| At the end of trading, in the main and junior markets, the Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator had 6 stocks with bids higher than their last selling prices and 2 stocks with offers that were lower.
Main Market| The JSE Market Index gained 275.43 points to 75,312.14, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index rose 307.97 points to close at 82,920.75 and the JSE combined index gained 266.89 points to close at 77,063.23.
Gains| Stocks gaining with last traded prices, at the end of trading in the main market are, Cable & Wireless saw trading in 100,000 units and put on 4 cents 50 cents, Desnoes & Geddes finished trading with 164,808 shares rising 5 cents to $4.70, Grace Kennedy closed with 188,553 shares as the price ended 49 cents higher at $61. Jamaica Producers finished trading with 328,071 shares as the price jumped 50 cents to $17.50. National Commercial Bank contributed 82,248 units and put on 10 cents to $18.50, Sagicor Group completed trading with 84,550 shares with the price rising 4 cents to $10, Scotia Group ended trading with 28,990 shares changing hands to close 1 cent at $20.01 and Seprod ended trading with 48,727 shares to end with an increase of 24 cents to $12.25.

Firm| The stock in the main market to close without a change in the last traded price is, Kingston Wharves which ended trading with 34,333 shares changing hands to close at $6.
Declines| The last traded prices of stocks with losses at the end of trading in the main market are, Carreras closing with 213,281 units trading as the price slipped 5 cents to $36.15 and Mayberry Investments finished with 4,540 shares trading lower by 4 cents $1.45.

This market is going much higher

The main market had 11 stocks gaining at the last traded prices and only 1 declining, at the end of trading, pushing the market indices to their highest point since early May this year.
Technically, the market has broken through resistance at 82,000 points on the all Jamaica Index on the November 19, retreated a bit but seems to be moving away from that point now. The next target is 91,000 points, the level reached in December 2012, which could well be reached by year end. The latest break of the 82,000 is the first of three attempts that the market has made to break through the descending trendline going back to late 2011 that has been successful. Supporting the move upwards, is the crossover of the short-term moving average line over the medium term moving average, the shortage of supply of most stocks and the lowering on Treasury bill rates, starting earlier this year and continuing up to the latest auction in November.
In trading on Friday, Grace Kennedy was the leading stock trading on Friday with 2 million units with a value of $120.7 million this was followed by Scotia Group with 258,000 shares valued at $5.2 million and Carreras with 123,000 units with a value of $4.5 million.

Gains| The stocks ending with gains on Friday are, Caribbean Cement ending with 1,164 units trading with a gain of 4 cents at $2.44. Carreras completed trading with 123,082 shares, the price rose 1 cent to $37, Desnoes & Geddes saw trading in 29,970 units and put on 9 cents to $4.69, Jamaica Broilers concluded trading with 11,700 shares changing hands with a gain of 5 cents to $4.05. Jamaica Stock Exchange concluded trading with 7,000 units, to close with a gain of 7 cents to $1.57, National Commercial Bank closed with 13,210 units and put on 4 cents to $18.20, Sagicor Group finished with 67,188 shares to end with an increase of 3 cents at $9.93. Sagicor Real Estate Fund ended with 750 shares as the price gained 44 cents to $7.25, a new 52 weeks high, Scotia Group finished trading with 257,719 shares, the price jumped 49 cents to $20.50, Seprod contributed 819 shares as the price climbed 1 cent to $12.01 and Supreme Ventures ended trading with 40,000 shares traded with a gain of 5 cents to $1.95.
Firm| The stocks in the main market to close without a change in the last traded prices are, Grace Kennedy ended with 2,009,457 shares changing hands to close at $62 and Hardware & Lumber with only 500 shares trading, closed at $6.50.
Declines| Cable & Wireless was the only main market stock to fall with a 1 cents loss to 44 cents with1,363 units.

NCB & Carreras dominant on JSE

Trading on the Jamaica Stock Exchange, on Wednesday was extend by an hour, to close at 2 PM, instead of the usual 1 PM close, problem with the stock exchange computer system, prevented some brokers from logging on to the system during the regular hours, hence the extension.
At the conclusion of trading the prices of 8 stocks rising and 6 declining as 25 securities changed hands, ending in 6,166,523 units trading, valued at $52,443,460, in all market segments. Of the total amount traded Carreras and National Commercial Bank that reported improved results for the period to September this over 2013 had $26,045,350 and $18,446,572 being invested in their stocks respectively.

Gains| Stocks gaining with last traded prices, at the end of trading in the main market are, Caribbean Cement with 6,000 units, gained 25 cents to $2.65, Grace Kennedy added 35,510 shares and gained $1 to end at $59, Kingston Wharves put through 650 shares, increased by 5 cents to close at $5.15, there was activity in Scotia Investments with 5,550 units, as the price increased by 60 cents, to close at $22 and Seprod with 10,850 shares gained 25 cents to close at $11.25.
Firm| The stocks in the main market to close without a change in the last traded prices are, Carreras with 50,174 shares to end at $34.50, Desnoes & Geddes had 1,000 units and closed at $4.95, Jamaica Money Market Brokers with 54,104 ordinary shares ended at $7, Mayberry Investments had 82,358 units trading, and closed at $1.50, National Commercial Bank contributed 2,490 shares to total of stocks trading, and ended at $17, Proven Investments had 1,880 units trading to close at 18 US cents and Sagicor Real Estate Fund 6,300 shares, closed at $6.65.
