JSE majors make big gains again – Monday

Scotia Group accounted for 46 percent of the volume traded on Monday.

Big movement in a number of main market stocks of the Jamaica Stock Exchange drove the indices up sharply at the closed on Monday and adding to the big gains on Friday. The All Jamaica Composite Index jumped 1,871.36 points to close at 259,844.60, the JSE Market Index climbed 1,705.02 points to 236,747.86 and the JSE US dollar market index lost 0.51 points to close at 180.46.
At the close of trading, 24 securities changed hands in the main market with 1 trading in the US dollar market, leading to 10 stocks advancing and 7 declining. Pulse Investments, fresh from a 6 for 1 stock split closed at a new 52 weeks’ high at the conclusion of trading. The main market ended with 2,897,944 units valued at $74,825,787.51 changing hands compared to 1,531,947 units valued at $26,473,230 at the close on Friday. Trading in the US dollar market accounted for 83,800 units valued at US$19,274.

Jamaica Stock Exchange closed at $7.05, gaining 5 cents and trading 21,349 shares, JMMB Group closed at $20, with gains of 3 cents while exchanging 22,733 units, Kingston Wharves gained 15 cents to close at $30, trading 23,419 shares, Mayberry Investments closed at $4.60, losing 50 cents with an exchange of 888 shares. NCB Financial Group closed at $70, after exchanging 107,711 shares, PanJam Investment closed at $34.89, with 36,102 shares changing hands, Portland JSX traded 1,002 units at $11, Pulse Investments closed at a new high of $3.75 after a 6 for 1 stock split, with 58,504 shares changing hands, Sagicor Group closed at $32.60, with a loss of 49 cents trading 19,778 shares, Sagicor Real Estate fund gained 10 cents to close at $12.10, with 8,519 shares changing owners. Scotia Group accounted for 46 percent of the volume traded in the market and the price jumped $2.70 to close at $45.70, with 1,337,205 shares having been traded, Seprod added $1.93 to close at $30 in exchanging 7,966 shares while Supreme Ventures closed at $7.78, with a rise of 33 cents with 12,351 shares changing hands. Proven Investments US ordinary shares closed at 23 US cents, with an exchange of 83,800 units, JMMB Group 7.5% preference share closed at $1.13, with 996,000 units exchanged, JMMB 7.5% preference share closed at $1.85, with 26,358 units traded and Proven 8.25% preference share lost 5 cents to close at a 52 weeks’ low of $5.10, with 27,294 units traded.

 

Berger price bounces 43%

 Berger Paints recovered from a $12.50 the previous week to land 43 percent higher at $17.87 this past week to sit at ninth position in the list for the week when they were no new addition to the TOP 10 lists. The other notable mover was Caribbean Producers that landed at $3.68 from $3.30.
Jamaica Broilers released full year results to April with earnings per share of $1.85, IC Insider.com has upgraded 2018 earnings to $2.60 per share. tTech had the annual general meeting during the past week. Coming out of the meeting is management disclosing that, they have implemented a number of measures that is improving efficiency that will allow them to take on more business without the need to increase staff compliment for a while. They also pointed out that the sale team have been working to bring in new business and they expect increase business activity in the second half of the current year. Additionally, management took the recommendation about a possible stock split and informed the meeting that the board will discuss same.
Market movement continues to be constrained by near term resistance levels but it does not prevent stocks from moving in either direction, but it will tend to keep prices overall from big movements upwards.
The average PE ratio for the Junior Market Top stocks is 7.6 and 7 in the main market, these compare favourably with 13.7 for the overall main market and 12.7 for Junior Market, based on 2017 estimated earnings. Several stocks are trading below these averages, and have potential for more gains in the months ahead, barring major negative developments.
At the close of the week, IC Insider.com’s TOP 10 Junior Market stocks now trade at an average discount of 40 percent to the Junior Market average, while those in the main market are trading at a 49 percent discount, to the average of the market, leaving stocks with room for growth in the months ahead.

Scotia Investments dominates trading

Scotia Investments now the subject of a proposed buyout by the Jamaica parent Scotia Group dominated trading on the Trinidad & Tobago Stock Exchange on Friday with 97 percent of the trades. The stock gained 6 cents to close at $1.96, with trading 2,024,656 shares valued at $3,948,159.
A total of 15 securities changed hands compared to 19 on Thursday as 2,080,937 shares were exchanged by investors, valued at $4,909,138 on Friday compared to Thursday’s 153,171 units valued at $8,814,925. At the close, 1 stock advanced, 5 declined and 9 remained unchanged.
The Composite Index fell 0.32 points to 1,209.18, the All T&T Index declined 0.56 points to 1,791.04 and the Cross Listed Index lost 0.01 point to close at 84.06.

Grace takes 86% of TTSE trades

Grace Kennedy accounts for 86% of trades on the TTSE on Thursday.

Jamaica’s Grace Kennedy accounted for 86 percent of the volume and 38 percent of the value traded on the Trinidad & Tobago Stock Exchange on Thursday. The market closed with a sharp rise in the level of activity compared with Wednesday’s with 19 securities trading, compared to 13 on Wednesday.
The market traded 1,447,071 units at a value of $8,814,925 compared to Wednesday’s trades of 201,265 units valued at $1,870,224. At the close, 4 stocks advanced, 6 declined and 9 were unchanged.
The Composite Index gained 0.11 points to 1,209.50, the All T&T Index added 0.08 points to 1,791.60 and the Cross Listed Index gained 0.02 points to close at 84.07.

JSE majors drop 3,000 pts in 2 days

The Jamaica Stock Exchange closed on Thursday with the All Jamaica Composite Index shedding more than 3,000 points in two days and the JSE Market Index losing over 2,800 points over the same period as declining stocks dominated those rising, with one stock ending at an all-time high.
The All Jamaica Composite Index dropped 2,038.00 points to close at 256,269.11, the JSE Market Index declined 1,856.85 points to 233,490.18 and the JSE US dollar market index gained 4.14 points to close at 187.26.
At the close of trading, 21 securities changed hands in the main market with 2 trading in the US dollar market, leading to 7 stocks advancing and 11 declining. Trading picks up on TTSE – Wednesday

Trading on the Trinidad & Tobago Stock Exchange picked up over Tuesday’s levels and closed on Wednesday with 13 securities being exchanged compared to only 7 on Tuesday.
The market traded 201,265 securities at a value of $1,870,224 compared to Tuesday’s trades of only 68,846 valued at $1,366,738. At the end of market activity, the prices of 4 stocks advanced, 3 declined and 6 remained unchanged.
The Composite Index declined 2.14 points to 1,209.39, the All T&T Index gained 0.91 points to 1,791.52 and the Cross Listed Index lost 0.71 points to close at 84.05.

Proven shareholders sending message

Investors in Proven Investments US ordinary shares a strong message to the management of the group by talking with their money. Last week, the company’s shares were sold at $20 and less in the Jamaican dollars on the main market of the stock exchange when the price in the US dollar market was near J$31.
On Tuesday 550,000 shares were sold at J$24 in the JSE main market while 1.83 million units traded, with the stock closing at 23 US cents, 1 US cent less than the price of the right issue. The price has suffered a steep fall since the company released the full year results to March and got worse since the announcement of the rights.

All three market indices closed higher at the end of trading, on the Trinidad & Tobago Stock Exchange on Tuesday, after trading resumed following the closure on Monday for a public holiday. The market closed with only 7 securities being exchanged compared to 8 on Friday.
At the end of trading 68,846 securities traded valued at $1,366,738 in contrast to Friday’s trades of 507,698 units, valued at $10,611,513. Market activity led to 3 stocks advancing, 2 declining and 2 were unchanged. Clico Investment dominated with 86 percent of the market’s value.
The Composite Index gained 0.47 points to 1,211.53, the All T&T Index rose 0.55 points to 1,790.61 and the Cross Listed Index gained 0.05 points to close at 84.76.
IC bid-offer Indicator| The Investor’s Choice bid-offer ended with 5 stocks with bids higher than last selling prices and 6 with lower offers.
Gains| Ansa McAL gained 1 cent to close at $66.01 exchanging 100 shares, NCB Financial Group closed at a 52 weeks’ high of $4.06, gaining 5 cents in trading 5,000 shares and Trinidad & Tobago NGL traded 25 cents higher, closing at $21.50 with 6,575 units changing hands.
Losses| Clico Investment closed at $22.50, losing 1 cent with an exchange of 52,500 shares valued at $1,181,252 and Scotia Investments traded 32 cents lower to close at $2.13, with 2,300 units changing hands, with the price coming closer to the price of J$38 approximately TT$2 being offered by Scotia Group.
Firm Trades| First Citizens exchanged 311 shares at $31.65 and JMMB Group closed at $1.26, with 2,060 units trading.
