JSE Main Market gains 7% in November

Stocks put in a spirited run in November, rising 6.5 percent in the month to close at the highest level since April 14, at the close of the Jamaica Stock Exchange Main Market on Monday after more stocks advanced than declined, with an exchange of 93 percent fewer shares than on Friday.

JSE Main Market in a strong move since the start of November.

At the close, the All Jamaican Composite Index jumped 2,322.50 points to 438,045.18, the Main Index climbed 2,101.69 points to 399,576.1 and the JSE Financial Index gained 0.60 points to settle at 104.85.
Trading ended with 49 securities changing hands compared to 41 on Friday and closed with the prices of 23 stocks rising, 18 declining and eight remaining unchanged. The average PE Ratio ended at 16.2 based on ICInsider.com’s forecast of 2020-21 earnings.
Investors exchanged 16,714,722 shares for $170,632,583 compared to 229,254,233 units at $226,718,055 on Friday. Wigton Windfarm led trading with 29.4 percent of total volume, after exchanging 4.92 million shares, followed by Transjamaican Highway with 23.8 percent for 3.97 million units, QWI Investments with 14 percent share for 2.35 million units and Sagicor Group with 9.9 percent in trading 1.65 million units.
Trading averaged 341,117 units at $3,482,298 for each security, compared to 5,591,567 shares at $5,529,709 on Friday. Month to date, the average ended at 623,120 units at $6,686,047 for each security, in contrast to 639,789 units at $6,875,412. October averaged 398,200 units at $4,622,532.

At the close of the market, Barita Investments climbed $3.50 in closing at $88, after trading 229,432 shares, Berger Paints shed 45 cents to settle at $12.05, with 12,811 units in crossing the changing hands. Eppley Caribbean Property Fund climbed $4.90 to $44.90, in exchanging 62,793 shares, Grace Kennedy closed at $66.50, with a loss of 50 cents after a transfer of 63,330 shares, Jamaica Broilers Group gained 56 cents exchanging 10,323 units to close at $28.50. Jamaica Producers finished at $21, after gaining $1, with the transferring of 75,409 shares, Jamaica Stock Exchange rose $1.50 to $21 trading 39,878 units, Key Insurance gained 63 cents to end at $10.98, with 63,394 shares changing hands. Mayberry Investments lost 40 cents to end at $5.60 after 515 units passed through the market, NCB Financial Group dropped $2.49 to $146.01, in exchanging 14,630 units, Palace Amusement climbed $100 to $1,300 after clearing the market with 12 units. Pan Jam Investment advanced by $2.90 to close at $70, with 142,736 shares crossing the exchange, Sagicor Group rose $1 to $52 trading 1,647,769 shares, Salada Foods closed at $27, with a loss of $1 in trading 5,498 units. Scotia Group fell by $1.99 to $46 in exchanging 210,312 shares, Seprod gained $1.10 to end at $65.10, with a transfer of 18,206 units, Supreme Ventures shed 87 cents to finish at $16.63, with 23,840 stock units changing hands and Sygnus Credit Investments lost 69 cents trading 181,280 shares to end the day’s trade at $17.31.

Rising stocks squeezed out declining ones at the end of Mondays’ trading on the Junior Market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange as the market closed out November with the market eking out a modest gain as it ended the month with a small net gain over October’s close as it remained in a narrow trading range from the summer months.
The market closed with a sharply increased volume of 221 percent and valued 247 percent over Friday’s level.
Trading ended with 34 securities changing hands compared to 35 on Friday and closed with the prices of 17 stocks rising, 14 declining and three remaining unchanged. Investors traded 10,722,538 shares for $28,515,368 compared to 3,342,645 units at $8,216,185 on Friday. Derrimon Trading led trading with 35.2 percent of the total volume for 3.78 million shares followed by Mailpac Group with 16 percent for 1.72 million units. Tropical Battery with 14.7 percent market share for 1.58 million units and Fontana with 11.3 percent for 1.20 million units changing hands.
The Junior Market Index gained just 2.24 points to settle at 2,516.07, with the average PE Ratio ending at 13.4 based on ICInsider.com’s forecast of 2020-21 earnings.
Trading averaged 315,369 units at $838,687 in contrast to 95,504 at $234,748 on Friday. For the month to date, the average trade is 193,331 units at $566,885, compared to 187,110 units at $553,030 on Friday. October averaged 230,868 units at $535,509.

Cargo Handlers ended at $7.31, with gains of 95 cents trading 512 units, Caribbean Assurance Brokers lost 18 cents transferring 17,811 shares to close at $1.72, Caribbean Cream declined 1 cent to $4.12, with 2,829 units passing through the market. Caribbean Flavours gained 8 cents to end at $1.75, with an exchange of 7,342 stock units, Caribbean Producers shed 21 cents trading 45,685 stocks to end at $2.42, Derrimon Trading lost 5 cents to end at $2.35 with 3,778,850 shares passing through the market. Dolphin Cove advanced 40 cents to $6.65, after the swapping of 6,651 units, Elite Diagnostic rose 28 cents to $3.30 trading 1,109 units, Everything Fresh gained 10 cents to end at 76 cents in exchanging 5,001 units. Express Catering closed 20 cents higher at $4, after crossing the exchange with 590 units, Fosrich lost 7 cents to end at $4, with the swapping of 12,387 stock units, General Accident gained 5 cents to settle at $6.20, after exchanging the market with 154,082 shares. GWest Corporation slipped 4 cents to 65 cents trading 15,205 units, Honey Bun gained 2 cents to end at $4.85 in clearing the market with 216,107 stocks, Indies Pharma carved out a gain of 7 cents to $2.58, in trading 59,122 units. Jamaican Teas lost 4 cents to end at $2.01, after clearing the market with 795,817 shares, Jetcon Corporation ended at 82 cents, with gains of 7 cents while trading 43,464 shares, Knutsford Express slid 29 cents to $5.71, with the swapping of 566 units. Lasco Financial lost 5 cents to end at $2.55 after exchanging 25,684 stock units, Lasco Manufacturing lost 14 cents to $3.66, after trading 57,387 stock units, Limners and Bards carved out a gain of 13 cents to end at $2.63, in an exchange of 210,501 shares. JSE USD trading picks up

Trading picked up at the end of the month on Monday, with the US dollar market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange rising after exchanging 30 percent more shares changing hands than on Friday.
Market activity ended with eight stocks trading, up from six on Friday and ended with the prices of four stocks rising, one declining and three remaining unchanged.
The JSE USD Equities Index advanced by 2.42 points to settle at 190.34. The average PE Ratio ended at 13.5 based on ICInsider.com’s forecast of 2020-21 earnings.
Trading ended with an exchange of 555,393 shares, at US$24,950 versus 427,882 units at US$13,880 on Friday.
Trading averaged 69,424 units at US$3,119, in contrast to 71,314 shares at US$2,313 on Friday. The average, month to date ends 51,134 units at US$4,516, compared to 49,490 units at US$4,641. October averaged 697,808 units for US$17,320.

At the close of the market, First Rock Capital Investment gained 0.35 of a cent to close at 9 US cents, in clearing the market with 10,820 shares, MPC Caribbean Clean Energy closed at US$1.15, with an exchange of 46 units. Productive Business Solutions gained 18 cents to end at 84 US cents after trading 5,952 stock units, Proven Investments advanced 0.99 of a US cent to finish at 25.99 US cents, after 14,259 shares crossed the exchange, Sterling Investments lost nine-tenths of a US cent to close at 2 US cents, with investors swapping 350,000 shares. Sygnus Credit Investments advanced 0.51 of a US cent to settle at 16.5 US cents after 51,732 shares crossed the market and Transjamaican Highway remained at 0.90 of a US cent, with 122,500 shares changing hands.
In the preference segment, Eppley 5% preference share closed at US$1.02, with investors swapping 84 units.

Q4 profit jumps 76% for Honey Bun

The Easter bounce in earnings never happened for Honey Bun with sales in the March quarter up 13 percent and the June quarter down 7 percent, but fourth quarter sales compensated for the June fall out, increasing a strong 15.5 percent.

Rising profit at Honey Bun

Profit after tax in the fourth quarter rose a healthy 76 percent to $54 million from $31 million in 2019, bettering the 21 percent rise in the June quarter, to $20.4 million from $16.7 million. For the year to September, profit increased just 6.6 percent to $167 million from $156 million in 2019.
Sale revenues rose 15.5 percent for the quarter, to $432 million from $374 million but rose 8.5 percent for the year, to $1.675 billion from $1.544 billion in 2019. The company manufactures and distributes baked products in Jamaica and overseas, with overseas revenue less than 10 percent of gross sales revenue.
Historical profit performance has not been exhibited a predictable pattern, partly due to expansion related cost. Profit jumped sharply in 2016 from 2015 but dipped in 2017 and again in 2018 but rose in 2019 as a recent expansion allowed for increased sales, with the latest period continuing to reflect growth but muted by the COVID 19 dislocations.

One Honey Bun’s Products.

Notwithstanding the profit performance that may present a chequered path, the company has one of the best management teams of Junior Market companies to build-out the capacity for continued growth in revenues and increased efficiency.
Gross profit margin moved up from 46 percent in 2017 and has been consistent at 48 percent since 2018 and resulted in gross profit rising nine percent to $799 million from $745 million.
Administrative and other expenses rose just one percent to $295 million, while depreciation charges relating to administrative expenses increased 28 percent to $48 million. Selling and distribution expenses rose 17 percent to $292 million from $250 million in 2019.
The company employed an average of two hundred and seven workers during the year, up from one hundred and eighty in the 2019 period costing $428 million compared to $406 million in 2019.
Finance cost was negligible at just over $1 million for the year.
Earnings per share came out at 35 cents for the fiscal year. The stock traded at $4.83 on the Junior Market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange at a PE ratio of 14 times earnings. ICInsider.com is forecasting 55 cents per share for 2021 at a PE of 9 times. Net asset value is $1.85, with the stock selling at 2.6 book value. The company paid a dividend of 8 cents d 20uring the year.
Gross cash flow brought in $260 million but increased working capital reduced the amount marginally to $253 million and payment of dividends amounting to $38 million acquisition of fixed assets amounting to $119 million and the payment of $27 million in taxation left $98.5 million to be added to funds on hand at the start of the year. Current assets ended at $444 million, including inventories of $71 million, receivables of $73 million, cash and bank balances of $297 million. Current liabilities stood at $148 million. At the end of the year, shareholders’ equity stood at $870 billion, with borrowings at just $26 million.

Gains piling up for JSE Main Market

Stocks mostly rose on the Main Market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange at the close on Friday after an exchange of more than 19 times the number of shares and a 24 percent increase in the value than on Thursday as the bullish tone of the market continues.
At the close, the All Jamaican Composite Index advanced 3,600.36 points to 435,722.68, the Main Index climbed 3,258.67 points to 397,474.41 and the JSE Financial Index gained 0.83 points to settle at 104.25.
Trading ended with stocks of 41 companies changing hands compared to 38 on Thursday with the prices of 17 stocks rising, 11 declining and 13 remaining unchanged.
The average PE Ratio closed at 15.9 based on ICInsider.com’s forecast of 2020-21 earnings.
Investors exchanged 229,254,233 shares at $226,718,055 compared to 12,009,747 units at $182,824,365 on Thursday. Sagicor Select Financial Fund led trading with 95.3 percent of total volume, after exchanging 218.40 million shares followed by Wigton Windfarm with 2.1 percent of the day’s trade for 4.81 million units and Transjamaican Highway with 1.4 percent market share for 3.10 million units.
Trading averaged 5,591,567 units at $5,529,709 for each security, versus 316,046 shares at $4,811,167 on Thursday. Month to date average ended with 639,789 units at $6,875,412 for each security, compared to 382,145 units at $6,945,430. October averaged 398,200 units at $4,622,532.

Junior Market closes higher on Friday

The majority of stocks rose on the Junior Market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange on Friday, with the market index rising as investors traded 30 percent fewer shares with a value that was 57 percent lower than on Thursday even after Jamaican Teas, three for one stock split took effect at the start of trading and resulted in over 2.11 billion units in issue.

Trading ended with 35 securities changing hands compared to 32 on Thursday and ended with the prices of 17 stocks rising, the prices of nine declining and nine remaining unchanged.
At the close, the Junior Market Index gained 26.08 points to settle at 2,513.83. The average PE Ratio ended at 12.4 based on ICInsider.com’s forecast of 2020-21 earnings.
The market closed with 3,342,645 shares trading at $8,216,185 versus 4,782,100 units at $19,328,148 on Thursday.
Derrimon Trading led trading with 23 percent of total volume with a transfer of 768,451 shares, followed by Lumber Depot with 15.2 percent of the day’s trade with an exchange of 508,099 units and Jamaican Teas with 15 percent market share or 502,383 units.

The Jamaica Stock Exchange US dollar market closed trading on Friday with the market slipping after the price of just one stock closed with a change and 888 percent more shares traded than on Thursday.
At the close of the market, trading ended with six securities changing hands, the same as on Thursday and ended with the price of one rising and the five remaining unchanged.
The JSE USD Equities Index fell by 1.83 points to settle at 187.92. The average PE Ratio ended at 13.6 based on ICInsider.com’s forecast of 2020-21 earnings.

The majority of stocks trading held their prices at the close of the US dollar market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange on Thursday with the market declining after an exchange of 81 percent fewer shares and 37 percent lesser value than on Wednesday.

Proven Investments ended at 25 US cents after a transfer of 22,692 shares, Sygnus Credit Investments remained at 15.50 US cents trading 8,753 stock units and Transjamaican Highway lost 0.03 of a cent to settle at 0.90 of 1 US cent with an exchange of 4,500 units.
In the preference segment, JMMB Group 6% preference share closed at US$1.05, after exchanging 6,828 units.

Rising stocks equaled declining ones and helped move the market index of Jamaica Stock Exchange Junior Market up at the close on Thursday after trading 32 percent fewer shares with a 17 percent fall in value compared to Wednesday.
Trading ended with shares of 32 companies changing hands compared to 38 on Wednesday with an equal number of 15 stocks rising and declining, with two remaining unchanged.
At the close, the Junior Market Index rose 28.32 points to settle at 2,487.75 after trading over the 2,500 points mark in the morning session. The average PE Ratio ended at 12.5 based on ICInsider.com’s forecast of 2020-21 earnings.
Trading closed with 4,782,100 shares for $19,328,148 versus 7,027,159 units at $23,247,610 on Wednesday. Fontana led trading with 31.4 percent of the volume in exchanging 1.50 million shares, followed by Jamaican Teas with 21.8 percent for 1.04 million units and Mailpac Group with 18.3 percent after trading 875,012 shares.
Trading averaged 149,441 units at $604,005 in contrast to 184,925 at $611,779 on Wednesday. For the month to date, the average trade is 192,183 units at $570,657, compared to 194,462 units at $568,878 on Wednesday. October averaged 230,868 units at $535,509.

Caribbean Flavours lost 3 cents in ending at $1.67 with 113,000 shares passing through the market, Caribbean Producers fell 9 cents to $2.40 in clearing the market with 5,000 shares, Derrimon Trading gained 12 cents to end at $2.50 after the transferring of 3,700 units. Dolphin Cove rose 33 cents to $6.01, in clearing the market with 72,795 shares, Elite Diagnostic shed 10 cents to settle at $3, with 40,612 units passing through the market, Everything Fresh gained 13 cents to end at 76 cents, with an exchange of 26,898 stock units. Express Catering picked up 5 cents to end at $3.36, in trading 54,089 shares, Fontana lost 8 cents to close at $5.30 exchanging 1,502,184 shares, Fosrich gained 1 cent to end at $4.01, with 5,000 units crossing the exchange. General Accident slipped 5 cents to $6.15 with 38,796 stock units changing hands, GWest Corporation fell 3 cents to 73 cents trading 2,364 units, Honey Bun fell 5 cents to $4.80, with the transferring of 23,100 stock units. iCreate gained 2 cents to close at 61 cents, after exchanging 54,756 shares, Indies Pharma closed 1 cent higher at $2.51, in an exchange of 110,000 stocks, Jamaican Teas shed 70 cents to settle at $6, with investors switching ownership of 1,044,488 shares ahead of Friday’s three for one stock split. Jetcon Corporation lost 13 cents to end at 70 cents, in transferring 123,927 shares, Knutsford Express shed 70 cents in closing at $6, after crossing the market with 113,924 stock units, Lasco Distributors gained 14 cents to close at $3.29, with investors swapping 15,019 shares. Lasco Financial dropped 24 cents to $2.40, trading 9,350 units, Lasco Manufacturing rose 40 cents to $3.90, in exchanging 18,125 stock units, Lumber Depot lost 1 cent in closing at $1.28, with the switching of 388,704 shares. Mailpac Group fell 4 cents to $2.14, after exchanging 875,012 shares, Main Event shed 37 cents to close at $3.03, with 10,000 units changing hands and Tropical Battery gained 4 cents to end at $1.16, in clearing the market with 20,772 stock units.

Rising stocks beat decliners 2 to 1

Prices mostly rose on Jamaica Stock Exchange Main Market on Thursday with slightly fewer shares trading than on Wednesday but with the value plunging 45 percent with fewer securities trading than the prior day.
At the close, the All Jamaican Composite Index slipped just 210.35 points to 432,122.32, the Main Index eased 230.64 points to 394,215.74 and the JSE Financial Index edged 0.02 points lower to 103.42.
Trading ended with 38 securities changing hands compared to 42 on Wednesday and closed with the prices of 21 stocks rising 10 declining and seven remaining unchanged. The average PE Ratio ended at 15.9 based on ICInsider.com’s forecast of 2020-21 earnings.
Trading closed with 12,009,747 shares changing hands for $182,824,365 compared to 12,512,087 units at $330,562,424 on Wednesday. Sagicor Select Financial Fund led trading with 27.7 percent of total volume, after exchanging 3.32 million shares, followed by Sagicor Group with 18.1 percent of the day’s trade for 2.17 million units, Transjamaican Highway with 16.3 percent market share for 1.96 million units and Wisynco Group accounted for 14.6 percent with 1.75 million units changing hands.
Trading ended with an average of 316,046 units changing hands at $4,811,167 for each security, compared to an average of 297,907 shares at $7,870,534 on Wednesday. Month to date average ends at 382,145 units for $6,945,430, in contrast to 385,494 units at $7,053,566 on Tuesday. October averaged 398,200 units at $4,622,532.

Jamaica Stock Exchange finished at $18.62, after losing 38 cents and trading 232,575 shares, JMMB Group rose 65 cents to $33 in exchanging 54,100 units, Key Insurance lost 30 cents to end at $8.60 after transferring 12,009 stock units. Kingston Wharves climbed $2.75 to $48.45, with 1,375 shares changing hands, Mayberry Jamaican Equities closed 36 cents higher at $8.15 in exchanging 12,000 stock units, NCB Financial climbed $2.50 to $148.50, with a transfer of 58,915 shares. Palace Amusement jumped $100 to $1,200 after an exchange of 34 units, PanJam Investment gained $1.05 to close at $68.15, trading 31,652 stock units, Proven Investments fell by $1.88 to $36.80 after switching ownership of 9,831 shares. Sagicor Group rose 89 cents to $51, with 2,172,115 shares changing hands and Supreme Ventures gained $1.52 to close at $18 trading 45,204 shares.
