Grace grows Q3 profit 7%

Revenues for Grace Kennedy rose a strong 14.4 percent in the nine months to September, this year, to $59.7 billion from $52.2 billion generated in the corresponding period of 2014. Profit attributable to owners of the group for the third quarter of 2015 was 7 percent higher than for the similar period last year, reaching $754 million.
Profit declined by $338 million or 14.2 percent for the year to date, compared with the similar period of 2014, moving from $2.38 billion to $2.05 billion.
The earnings per stock unit to September amount to $6.19, down from $7.21 in 2014, for the full year should end around $3.4 billion or $10.30 per share.
“The Group’s performance was in part impacted by the costs associated with the integration of our expanded US Food operations through GraceKennedy Foods (USA), recognition of the total asset tax liability in the first quarter, lower foreign exchange gains and higher finance costs”, Group Chief Executive Officer, Don Wehby and chairman Gordon Shirley said in his report to shareholders.

Segments|The Food Trading segment reported revenue growth of 17 percent over the corresponding period last year but with falling profit of $754 million compared with $1.02 billion in 2014. The distribution businesses in Jamaica, UK, Canada and Belize reported higher profits when compared to prior year, the report stated. “The Banking and Investments segment reported higher profits when compared to the prior period due to growth in First Global Bank’s net interest income and non-interest income. The growth in net interest income was bolstered by year over year growth in loans and deposits of 28 percent and 21 percent respectively. The Insurance segment delivered higher revenue and profits due to the improved underwriting performance of GK General”, the report to shareholders further stated.
“The Money Services segment recorded higher revenues and profits due to higher remittance transactions and increased market share in Jamaica, higher revenues from our cambio operations in Trinidad, and cost containment initiatives implemented by the segment”, Wehby and Shirley stated.
Shareholders’ equity stands at $37.2 billion with book value per share of $112.47. The company will pay a third interim dividend of 90 cents per stock unit on 16th December.
Grace’s shares are listed on the Stock Exchanges of Jamaica and Trinidad and last traded at J$68.11 and TT$3.60 giving it a PE of 6.7 times 2015 earnings leaving room for quite some growth.

Bulls continue to push higher on Friday

Scotia Group traded at a 52 weeks’ high on Friday.

The JSE Market Index bounced 1,756.11 points to 134,188.79 the all Jamaica Composite Index jumped 1,962.55 points to end at 148,919.83 and JSE combined index surged 1,839.73 points to end at 140,201.06.
IC bid-offer Indicator| At the end of trading, in the main and junior markets, the Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator had a reading of 12 stocks with bids higher than their last selling prices and 4 with offers that are lower.
In trading, Berger Paints dropped 30 cents to end at $3.50 after 40,000 shares were traded, Cable and Wireless recovered some more lost grounds to gain 15 cents, with 601,894 shares changing hands. On the offer were 174,235 shares at $1.05 with bid in at $1.02 to buy 50,000 units.

Caribbean Cement lost 20 cents to end at $17.90, with 10,979 shares changing hands. Carreras had 45,200 units trading, to close at $55.50, the stock gained $1.50 to end at a 52 weeks’ high, Desnoes & Geddes traded 35,403 units at $30, Gleaner Company traded 20,000 shares to end at $1.90, with a loss of 2 cents, Grace Kennedy closed at $68.11 with a fall of 39 cents with 193,092 shares changing hands. Jamaica Broilers traded 209,180 shares to close at $9. Jamaica Producers traded 1,205,762 shares and lost 20 cents to end at $23.50, JMMB Group traded 303,428 shares to close at $10.80 with the price falling 20 cents, Kingston Wharves gained 40 cents and traded 31,327 units to close at $11.50 for a 52 weeks’ closing high, Mayberry Investments rose 3 cents to end at $4.21 by trading 502,040 shares. National Commercial Bank with 79,023 shares changing hands to end at $33.

Pulse Investments traded 112,631 shares but lost 5 cents and ended at $1.30. Sagicor Group dropped 5 cents with 137,091 shares trading, to close at $14.45, Sagicor Real Estate Fund traded 1,289 units, the price closed at $9.95 after rising 45 cents, Scotia Group ended with 2,574,294 shares changing hands and closed at a 52 weeks’ high after rising $2.50 at $29.50, Seprod fell 1 cent to close at $15.84 as 20,000 units traded and Proven Investments ordinary share ended at 22.98 US cents with 27,891 units changing hands.

A total of 44 securities were active, leading to 9,435,523 units valued at $123,466,769 changing hands, in all market segments. at the close 26 securities rose and 9 declined with 9 stocks ending at 52 weeks’ closing high and 1 at an intraday 52 weeks’ high.
The JSE Market Index shed 301.69 points to 132,432.68 the all Jamaica Composite Index gained 337.15 points to end at 146,957.28 and JSE combined index dipped 859.23 points to end at 138,361.33.

The Jamaica Stock Exchange closed down in trading on Wednesday, with all three main indices falling. Trading ended with 41 securities being active, leading to 6,392,200 units valued at $35,577,578 changing hands, in all market segments. A total of 15 securities rose, 12 declined, including 4 stocks that ended at 52 weeks’ closing high and 2 at intraday 52 weeks’ high.
The JSE Market Index shed 559.17 points to 132,130.99 the all Jamaica Composite Index dropped 624.90 points to end at 146,620.13 and JSE combined index dipped 246.22 points to end at 137,502.10.

The market closed with 34 securities trading, leading to 6,392,200 units valued at $68,464,086 changing hands, in all market segments. A total of 20 securities rose and 8 declined, with 8 stocks ending at 52 weeks’ closing highs and 5 at an intraday 52 weeks’ high.
The JSE Market Index shot up 500.20 points to 132,690.16, the all Jamaica Composite Index gained 559.00 points to end at 147,245.03. JSE combined index climbed 906.22 points to end at 137,748.32. All Three indices are at new closing highs.

Cable and Wireless lost further ground on Monday as it shed 35 cents to closed down to 95 cents having traded just 1.46 million units as some selling continues for the stock, but National Commercial Bank hit a new 52 weeks’ high of $36 rising $3.50 in the process.
A total of 37 securities traded leading to 6,392,200 units valued at $48,320,406 hanging hands, in all market segments. A total of 21 securities rose and 10 declined with 6 stocks ended at 52 weeks’ closing highs and 2 at an intraday 52 weeks’ high.
The JSE Market Index shot up 905.92 points to 132,189.96, the all Jamaica Composite Index gained 1,012.42 points to end at 146,686.03. JSE combined index and climbed 1,059.06, points to end at 136,842.10. All Three indices are at new closing highs.

JSE gains over 35% for October

Sagicor Group HQ – its stock was market leader on Friday on the JSE

Cable and Wireless lost its star attraction on Friday, closing down at $1.20 and traded just 1.8 million units as some amount of selling hit the stock, but Sagicor Group with 3.1 million units was the largest trade, with 3 million units being a cross, executed by Barita Investments. The market ended with strong gains at the end of October ranging from 35 to 37 percent for the 4 main indices for the month.
A total of 39 securities traded, leading to 13,797,226 units valued at $170,547,669 changing hands, in all market segments. A total of 10 securities 15 rose and 17 declined with 7 ended at 52 weeks’ closing highs and one at an intraday 52 weeks’ high.
The JSE Market Index shot up 621.25 points to 131,284.04, the all Jamaica Composite Index gained 694.29 points to end at 145,673.61. JSE combined index climbed 706.30, points to end at 135,783.04. All Three indices are at new closing highs.

The stock closed with a loss of 20 cents, with 1,813,418 shares changing hands to end at $1.20. Trading in the stock was between $1.10 and $1.40 and it closed with a bid at $1.11, to buy 146,000 shares. On the offer were 830,752 shares at $1.20. By the close the number of offers increased dramatically and now total 32, ranging up to $3.10, for a total of 10,689,005 units with 10.68 million having a top offer of $1.80, the majority are at $1.50, or below. Unlike Thursday when the market closed with just two offers to sell 140,000 units at $24, at the close on Friday there were 11 offers on the board, between $17.89 up to $25 with more than 600,000 units. Bids are for over 230,000 units at $17.73, the next lot is at $16.80. Carreras ended with 1,001,700 shares trading at $53.05, a 52 weeks high, after gaining 5 cents. Desnoes & Geddes had 832,106 units changing hands, to close 15 cents lower at $30, Jamaica Broilers traded 93,884 shares to close at $8.88 as the price slipped 12 cents. Jamaica Stock Exchange closed with 20,000 shares trading to end at $11 and gained $1.25, for an all-time high, JMMB Group traded 184,433 shares to close at $9.51 after declining 29 cents. Kingston Wharves traded 10,500 units to close at $10, Mayberry Investment lost 10 cents to end at $4, by trading 918,658 shares.

Sagicor Real Estate Fund traded 262,107 units, the price closed unchanged at $11, Scotia Group ended with 8,000 shares changing hands and closed at $26.17, after falling by 81 cents. Jamaica Broilers closed at a new 52 weeks’ high of $9 on Thursday.

Cable and Wireless was the star attraction with over 4 million shares changing hands and ending closing higher at the close. Elsewhere trading on the Jamaica Stock Exchange on Thursday as bulls still dominating with the main market indices close with mere increases but the indices still ended at new closing highs except for the junior market.
A total of 25 stocks rose, 10 declined as 8 securities, totalling 12,318,211 units valued at $61,415,667 changed hands, in all market segments. A total of 9 stocks ended at 52 weeks’ closing highs and one at an intraday 52 weeks’ high.
The JSE Market Index shot up 33.96 points to 130,662.79, a new closing high, the all Jamaica Composite Index gained 37.95 points to end at 144,979.32. JSE combined index climbed 239.17, points to end at a new closing high of 15076.74.

The stock closed with a bid at $1.35 to buy 269,759 shares and with 14,700 shares on the offer at $1.40. Caribbean Cement lost 1 cent to end at $18, with 159,792 shares changing hands. Carreras ended with 182,073 shares trading at $53 after. Desnoes & Geddes had 34,421 units changing hands, to close at $30.15, the stock price gained 15 cents for the day. Gleaner moved up 14 cents to $2, as trading ended with 68,200 shares changing hands, Grace Kennedy lost some altitude, with 4,833 shares changing hands at $67.94, to close with a loss of $2.00, Jamaica Broilers traded 208,432 shares to close at a 52 weeks’ closing high of $9. Jamaica Producers gained 6 cents to $20.76 with only 93,468 units in closing at a new 52 weeks high, Jamaica Stock Exchange closed unchanged with only 1,000 shares trading to end at $9.75, JMMB Group traded 20,935 shares to close at $9.80 after declining 5 cents. Kingston Wharves traded 29,500 units to close with a gain of 95 cents at a 52 weeks’ high of $10, Mayberry Investment also closed at a new 52 weeks’ high, as the price rose 29 cents to reach $4.10, by trading 159,650 shares.

National Commercial Bank with 42,039 shares changing hands closed $1.50 higher at $33, Pan Jamaican traded 73,657 shares to end at $80 with the price falling back by $10, Sagicor Group fell 85 cents with 640,958 shares trading, to close at $14.15, Sagicor Real Estate Fund traded 15,310 units as the price closed at $11, Scotia Group ended with 19,258 shares trading and closed at $26.98 after rising by 98 cents. Seprod exchanged 29,445 units and lost 69 cents, and ended at $16, Supreme Ventures ended at $4.20 with 162,100 units changing hands and gained 39 cents and Proven Investments ordinary share, closed with a loss of 1.98 US cents, with 442,900 units traded, to end at 22 US cents.

Bulls tamed a bit still active on JSE

Grace Kennedy traded at a new 52 weeks’ high of $70.

Cable and Wireless was the dominant trade on the Jamaica Stock Exchange on Wednesday as bulls continued their rampage and pushed the market to yet another record high of 144,941.37 points after adding 1,786.99 points on the all the all Jamaica Composite Index. The Jamaica telecom giant, traded nearly 8 million units, just under two thirds of the volume traded for the day.
A total of 13 stocks rose, 16 declined as 37 securities, totalling 12,318,211 units valued at $44,798,394 changed hands, in all market segments. A total of 6 stocks ended at 52 weeks’ closing highs and one at a 52 weeks’ low. The JSE Market Index shot up 1,599.02 points to 13,628.83, a new closing high. JSE combined index climbed 1,437.67, points to end at a new closing high of 134,837.57.
IC bid-offer Indicator| At the end of trading, in the main and junior markets, the Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator had a reading of 8 stocks with bids higher than their last selling prices and 2 with offers that were lower.

In trading, Barita Investments trading for only the fifth time in October, lost 4 cents in trading 77,450 shares at $2.56, Berger Paints traded 58,499 shares to close at $3.40, Cable and Wireless closed with a gain of 4 cents as with 7,878,875 shares changed hands to end at 52 weeks’ high of $1.30. The stock traded between $1.25 and $1.50 with an average price of $1.44 and closed 1,850 units on the bid at $1.25 and with 63,000 shares on the offer at $1.30. Thursday’s trading could set the stage for the next few days of trading in the stocks. Caribbean Cement lost 49 cents to end at $18.01, with 12,658 shares changing hands. Cement closed with seven lots being offered amounting to just under 375,000 shares between mostly between $18.90 and $24, bids are 100,000 at $17.80 and 293,000 at $17.51, with the sellers having the upper hand currently. Carreras ended at with 9,664 share trading at $53 after. Desnoes & Geddes had 152,548 units changing hands to close at $30, Gleaner traded 150,833 shares at $1.86 for a 6 cents gain, Grace Kennedy exchanged 26,870 shares at $70 to close at a new 52 weeks High as the price gained $3.50, Jamaica Broilers traded 95,595 shares to close at $8.01. Jamaica Producers gained 10 cents to $20.70 with only 3,000 units in closing at a new 52 weeks high, Jamaica Stock Exchange also closed at a new 52 weeks high with 3,380 shares trading to end at $9.75, JMMB Group gained 10 cents in trading 107,923 shares to close at $9.85.

National Commercial Bank with 29,361 shares changing hands closed at $31.50, Pan Jamaican price traded 34,410 shares to end at $90, for a new 52 weeks’ high, Sagicor Group jumped 70 cents with 197,308 shares trading to close at a new 52 weeks’ high of $15. Sagicor Real Estate Fund traded 6,680 units as the price gained $1 to close at $11 for a 52 weeks’ high. Scotia Group ended with 74,384 shares trading closed at $26 after falling by 50 cents, Supreme Ventures ended at $3.81 with 78,000 units changing hands and lost 9 cents and Proven Investments ordinary share closed with a small loss 67,987 units traded to end at 23.98 US cents.

TCL hits a new high on Wedessday

Trinidad and Tobago NGL traded on the Trinidad and Tobago Stock Exchange on Tuesday at $23 with 26,360 shares valued at $606,280 changing hands. The stock continues under selling pressure as it closed with a bid of $22.75 to buy 12,000 shares with 93,197 units on offer at $23.
Activity on the Stock Exchange, ended with 13 securities trading with 3 stocks closing higher, 1 declined and 9 remained unchanged as a total of 209,912 units, valued at $3,879,300 changed hands.
At the close the Composite Index ending with a gain of 0.41 points at 1,147.87, the All T&T Index advanced by 0.80 points to 1,950.84 and the Cross Listed Index remained at 45.24.
Gains| Clico Investment Fund closed 1 cent higher with 48,296 shares valued at $1,087,074 to end trading at $22.50, National Flour Mills with 51,618 shares trading, gained 6 cents in closing at $1.96 and Trinidad Cement closed 10 cents higher at a 52 weeks’ high of $3.40 with 5,950 shares changing hands as investors responded positively to the company’s nine months results showing profit rising to $394.5 million from $60 million in 2015.
losses| Massy Holdings lost 5 cents to close with 3,978 shares trading at $62.40.
Firm Trades| First Citizens Bank traded 18,085 shares valued at $632,975 and closed at $35, Guardian Holdings closed with 16,287 shares valued at $208,473 changing hands at $12.80, Guardian Media traded 651 shares with the price remaining at $19.77, JMMB Group with a volume of 160,215 shares being traded at43 cents.

National Commercial Bank in trading 54,404 shares closed at $1.67, National Enterprises with 914 shares changing hands, closed at $16.50, Republic Bank traded 4,347 shares valued at $486,864 and closed at $112. Sagicor Financial Corporation closed with 1,886 shares changing hands at $5.75, Scotiabank traded 6,540 units with a value of $408,750 at $62.50 and Scotia Investments traded 25,000 units at $1.61.
