Bulls take over JSE with 6 new highs
Stocks closing at 52 weeks’ high on Thursday are Carreras, Knutsford Express from the junior market, National Commercial Bank, Seprod, Supreme Ventures and Jamaica Money Market Brokers 7.50% preference share.
Main Market| The JSE Market Index gained 346.41 points to 86,646.17, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index rose 387.31 points to close at 95,592.74 and the JSE combined index gained 412.97 points to 88,407.34.
IC bid-offer Indicator| At the end of trading, in the main and junior markets, the Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator shows 11 stocks with bids higher than their last selling prices and just 2 with offers that were lower.
In market activity, Cable & Wireless traded 123,000 shares, in closing at 52 cents, after trading as high as 54 cents. Caribbean Cement had 46,061 units trading, to gain 25 cents in ending at $2.50, Carreras traded only 15,934 shares between $43 and the last traded price of $45.05, in posting a gain of $1.05. Grace Kennedy’s price fell 80 cents, while trading 5,801 shares at $62.20, Jamaica Producers had 173,904 units trading at $16.80 for a gain of 84 cents but had 1,569,027 shares on the bid at $16, at the close. National Commercial Bank put through only 25,149 units between $26.01 and the closing price of $26.70 with an increase of 20 cents. The banking group reported improved results in the quarter of $1.32 versus $1.24 per share in March 2014. Pan Jamaican Investment gained 37 cents in trading 9,054 shares at $55.50 but traded as low as $55.19. Radio Jamaica lost 25 cents in trading just 1,000 shares at $1.75,Sagicor Group posted 65,992 shares to end at $10.57 and gain just 2 cents. Scotia Group swapped 48,477 shares to close at $22, after trading at $22.50, Scotia Investments had 10,000 shares changing hands at $23.80, for an increase of 20 cents. Seprod put on $1.93 but with a mere 200 shares to end at $16, Supreme Ventures had the ownership of 51,600 units changing to close with a gain of 11 cents at $2.95. Proven Investments had 77,330 shares trading to close at 17.5 US cents but traded as high as 17.99 US cents, Jamaica Money Market Brokers 7.50% preference share traded 227,950 units at $2.30 and gained 28 cents or 14 percent, which is indicative of what now happening to interest rates, that have been declining from April last year, and Jamaica Money Market Brokers 8.75% preference share traded 174,738 units at $3.20.
Palace jumps $10 to $80
Main Market| The JSE Market Index lost 208.43 points to 83,596.25, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index fell 233.04 points to end at 92,182.78 and the JSE combined index dropped by 111.67 points to close at 85,292.93.
Elsewhere in trading resulted in the prices of 7 stocks rising, 8 declining as 21 securities changed hands, ending in 2,749,601 units trading, valued at $20,236,546, in all market segments.
IC bid-offer Indicator| At the end of trading, in the main and junior markets, the Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator shows 8 stocks with bids higher than their last selling prices and 4 stocks with offers that were lower.
The main stocks trading in the main market are, Desnoes and Geddes with 1.5 million units ending at $5.50, for a 9 cents gain, Cable and Wireless with 710,000 units at 50 cents, Grace Kennedy with 45,844 units to close at $62 down 50 cents, as National Commercial Bank with 64,700 units and closing at $25. Sagicor Group chipped in with 86,700 units at $10.51 and Scotia Group had 79,445 units trading to close lower at $21.56.
Stocks closing with interesting bids and offers include Carreras with 88,500 units with a bid price of $40.01 with meaningful offer some distance off.
Gleaner with over 1 million units on the bid at 90 cents versus 500,000 on offer at $1.07. National Commercial Bank with a bid of $25 to buy nearly 200,000 units with the offer at $25.25 to sell 200,000 shares. Radio Jamaica with 1 million units bid at $1.48 just below the last traded price and the Sagicor Real Estate Fund with an offer to sell 1.44 million units at $6.95 and Seprod with 555,000 units on offer at $15.90.
Jamaican stocks up 3,000 points in 3 days
Jamaican stocks have risen 3,054 points in the last three trading days but will it last or will the rally which started in October last year power on up? The movement is reflected in the all Jamaica Composite Index of the Jamaica Stock Exchange between last Thursday and Monday. Market activity resulted in Monday’s closing All Jamaica Index reaching the highest level, since early June 2012.
The increase took place on very low volume and was influenced mainly by one stock, Scotia Group with a mere 1,000 units trading as the prices of 6 stocks rose, 7 declined and only 21 securities changed hands, ending in 1,756,279 units trading, valued at $8,819,494, in all market segments.
Main Market| The JSE Market Index gained 848.12 points to 84,246.09, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index rose 948.24 points to close at 92,909.34 and the JSE combined index climbed 805.21 points to close at 85,837.84.

Preference| Jamaica Money Market Brokers 7.25% preference shares ending trading with 26,900 shares changing hands at $2.50 and Proven Investments 8% preference share traded just 307 units to end at $5.50.
Is end of quarter JSE rally on?
Main Market| The JSE Market Index gained 865.46 points to 83,174.80, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index rose 967.61 points to close at 91,711.58 and the JSE combined index increased 800.44 points to 84,804.11.
IC bid-offer Indicator| At the end of trading, in the main and junior markets, the Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator shows 14 stocks with bids higher than their last selling prices and 3 stocks with offers that were lower. The increased numbers, is suggestive of month end and end of quarter moves, by some investors or fund managers to get prices or values of certain stocks up to influence portfolio valuation, rather than a sustained higher interest in the market. Admittedly, the reading since March 18, has been strong with the number of higher bids ranging between 10 and 12.

Pan Jamaican Investment finishing with 905 units to close with a gain of 1 cent to $57.01, Sagicor Group finishing trading with 131,751 shares to end with an increase of 9 cents to $10.60, Scotia Group contributing 162,952 shares while gaining 45 cents to $21.50 and Seprod ending trading with 37,892 shares as the price jumped $1.10 to $14 for a new 52 weeks’ high.

Declines|The last traded prices of stocks with losses, at the end of trading in the main market are, Jamaica Money Market Brokers, closing with 223,767 units, finishing 24 cents lower at $7.02, Mayberry Investments concluding trading with 11,829 units, 36 cents lower to $2 and Scotia Investments in trading 9,000 units, the price slipped $1 to $22.
Preference| Proven Investments 8% preference share and closing with 1,000 shares traded with a gain of 45 cents to $5.50.
JSE closes with strong gains
Trading on the Jamaica Stock Exchange on Thursday, resulted the advanced decline ratio being very positive. The market ended with strong gains in indices with the JSE Market Index gaining 865.46 points to 83,174.80, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index rose 967.61 points to close at 91,711.58 and the JSE combined index increasing by 800.44 points to close at 84,804.11.
The volume of stocks trading was moderate at 1.167 million units as only 16 securities traded in the main market. Major price movements, were recorded by Carreras up 95 cents to $39.95, Jamaica Broilers up 20 cents to $4.50, Jamaica Money Market down 24 cents to $7.02. Mayberry down 36 cents to $2, National Commercial Bank gaining 89 cents to $25, Proven 8% preference shares put on 45 cents to $5.50, Scotia Group gained 45 cents to $21.50, Scotia Investments lost $1 to $22 and Seprod climbing $1 to $14.
Sagicor dominant trade at $53m
Tuesday’s activity on the Jamaica Stock Exchange, resulted in the prices of 8 stocks rising, 6 declining as 23 securities changed hands, ending in 7,517,895 units trading, valued at $70,926,533, in all market segments. Sagicor Group accounted for $53.4 million of the trades.
Main Market| The JSE Market Index gained 208.93 points to 82,549.69, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index rose 233.59 points to close at 91,012.68 and the JSE combined index gained 203.49 points to end at 84,221.49.

JSE indices closes week down
Trading on the Jamaica Stock Exchange closed with 4.49 million shares changing hands with a value of $28,237,865, in the main market on Friday.
The market indices closed out the week on a negative note, but the advanced decline ratio, was highly positive. The JSE Market Index lost 224.48 points to 82,339.30, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index fell 250.98 points to close at 90,777.46 and the JSE combined index declined by 241.19 points to close at 84,012.30.
Desnoes & Geddes with 1 million shares and Jamaica Money Market Brokers with 2.5 million shares were the leading trades. The main price gains were recorded by Carreras up by 49 cents to $38.50, National Commercial Bank 14 cents to $24.85 and Seprod 75 cents to $13. Declining price changes were moderate.
