JSE enjoys big jump on Wednesday

Caribbean Cement shares closed at a new high of $28

Main market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange closed with moderate gains in the indices on Wednesday with trading volumes being light. Market activities close with 42 securities changing hands in all market segments of which 16 securities in the combined markets gained and 12 declined.
Five stocks closed at 52 weeks’ highs and one traded at intraday highs as 4,514,100 units valued at $80,222,876 changed hands in all markets. The junior market accounted for 920,944 units changed hands, valued at $5,787,289.
The JSE Market Index jumped sharply by 2,558.24 points to 162,031.07 the all Jamaica Composite Index closed with a big gain of 2,858.97 points to end at 180,035.15 and the JSE combined index rose 2,543.90 points to close at 173,056.95.
IC bid-offer Indicator| At the end of trading, in the main and junior markets, the Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator reading was 14 stocks with bids higher than their last selling prices and 1 with a lower offer.
At the end of the market activities, Berger Paints lost 20 cents to end at $3.40 as 87,946 units traded,

Carreras traded 22,915 shares with a loss of 50 cents at $62, Ciboney traded 323,200 units at 27 cents, Gleaner traded 17,690 units with a loss of 2 cents at $2.58, Grace Kennedy dropped $2.69 and closed at $80.80, with 109,886 units changing hands. Kingston Properties traded 79,853 shares but lost 24 cents to end at $6.80, Kingston Wharves traded 5,112 units to close with a gain of 1 cent at $11.14, Margaritaville Turks traded 73,000 shares at 11.05 US cents. Radio Jamaica gained 80 cents to end at $5 while trading 21,945 shares. Sagicor Group closed at $23 with 7,704 units changing hands, Sagicor Real Estate Fund traded 52,946 shares at $11.60, Scotia Group had 179,497 shares changing hands to close with a gain of $1.50 at $32, Scotia Investments had 200,000 shares changing hands to close with a decline of $3.49 at $26.50. Seprod rose 50 cents to close at $20.50 with 109,692 units changing hands. Supreme Ventures closed at a 52 weeks’ closing high of $6.55 to record a gain of 6 cents with 64,920 units changing hands, the stock traded at an all-time high of $6.90 during the day, Proven Investments ordinary share lost 2 US cents in trading 1,244,550 units at 20 US cents and JMMB 7.5% preference share traded 137,308 units at $2.25.

Market activity picked up on Tuesday

Main market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange closed with moderate gains in the indices on Tuesday with trading volumes being light. Market activities picked up from the 33 securities that traded on Monday to close with 43 changing hands in all market segments of which 22 securities in the combined markets gained and 14 declined.
Eight stocks closed at 52 weeks’ highs and one traded at intraday highs as 4,319,632 units valued at $43,703,774 changed hands in all markets. The junior market accounted for 1,200,794 units changed hands, valued at $5,249,310.
The JSE Market Index advanced by 147.39 points to 159,472.83 the all Jamaica Composite Index closed with a gain of 164.72 points to end at 177,176.18 and the JSE combined index rose 175.31 points to close at 170,513.05.
IC bid-offer Indicator| At the end of trading, in the main and junior markets, the Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator reading was 8 stocks with bids higher than their last selling prices and 2 with lower offers.
At the end of the market activities, Berger Paints gained 29 cents to end at $3.60 as 103,176 units traded, Cable and Wireless ended with 268,670 units changing hands to close with a gain of 1 cent at $1.57, Caribbean Cement rose $1 to close at $25, with 54,507 shares changing hands. Carreras traded 86,825 shares at $62.50, Gleaner traded 10,560 units with a loss of 7 cents at $2.60, Grace Kennedy jumped $1.49 and closed at $83.49, with 13,200 units changing hands. Mayberry Investments traded 201,632 shares and fell 35 cents to close at $4.50. National Commercial Bank traded with a rise of $1.75 to close at $41.75, with 45,227 units changing hands, Pan Jamaican Investment gained $2 with 10,830 units changing hands to close at a 52 weeks’ high of $98, Pulse Investments gained 10 cents to end at $2.60 while trading 19,848 shares. Sagicor Group fell by 5 cents to close at $23 with 189,997 units changing hands, Sagicor Real Estate Fund traded 74,254 shares but the price rose 1 cent to $11.60, Scotia Group had 460,994 shares changing hands to close with a loss of $1.50 at $30.50, Seprod had 10,000 units changing hands at $20, for a rise of $1. Supreme Ventures closed at a 52 weeks’ high of $6.49 to record a gain of $1.49 with 223,971 units changing hands, the stock traded at an all-time high of $6.90 during the day. Proven Investments ordinary share traded 184,364 units at 22 US cents, JMMB 7.5% preference share traded 152,692 units at $2.25 after rising 15 cents and Proven Investments preference share traded 77,800 units at $5.

C&W traded 51.4 Million shares on Thursday

Cable & Wireless traded over 51 million shares on Thursday on the Jamaica Stock Exchange as Sagicor Investments crossed more than 48 million on behalf of clients. The market continues to enjoy wide securities participation with 40 changing hands on Thursday in all market segments. At the close, 13 securities in the combined markets gained and 18 declined with the market indices climbing sharply.
Five stocks closed at 52 weeks’ highs and two traded at intraday high as 54,222,475 units valued at $114,953,664 changed hands in all markets. The junior market accounted for 1,498,422 units changed hands, valued at $9,013,294.
The JSE Market Index eked out an increase of 1,207.54 points to 157,025.07, the all Jamaica Composite Index closed with an increase of 1,349.49 points to end at 174,440.67 and the JSE combined index rose 1,080.44 points to close at 168,293.36.
IC bid-offer Indicator| At the end of trading, in the main and junior markets, the Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator reached an elevated level indicating several rising prices ahead with reading of 15 stocks with bids higher than their last selling prices and 5 with lower offers.

National Commercial Bank ended with a gain of 30 cents at $41.20, with 14,298 units changing hands, Pan Jamaican Investments closed at $96 with 10,779 shares trading. Pulse Investments traded 30,100 shares but fell 20 cents to $2.50, Sagicor Group rose by 40 cents to close at $22 with 32,585 units changing hands, Scotia Group lost 7 cents with 228,567 shares changing hands to close at $30.41. More decline for JSE on Friday

Trading levels on the Jamaica Stock Exchange continues to be buoyant with 40 securities changing hands on Friday in all market segments. At the close 17 securities in the combined markets gained and 15 declined.
Eight stocks closed at 52 weeks’ highs and 3 at intraday highs as 6,458,590 units valued at $100,762,294 changed hands in all markets, with the junior market accounting for 2,572,307 units that changed hands, valued at $13,732,252.
While all main market indices fell the declines were less than on Thursday, with the JSE Market Index dropping 1,351.93 points to 156,273.84, the all Jamaica Composite Index falling with 1,510.87 points to end at 173,601.12 and the JSE combined index diving 1,405.00 points to close at 167,824.05.
IC bid-offer Indicator| At the end of trading, in the main and junior markets, the Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator reached an elevated level indicating several rising prices ahead with reading of 19 stocks with bids higher than their last selling prices and only 3 with lower offers.
In trading, Barita Investments traded 134,925 shares and gained 50 cents to close at $4.40, Berger Paints closed at $3.75 as the price rose 55 cents with 18,500 units trading, Cable and Wireless ended with 257,600 units changing hands to close with a gain of 1 cent to $1.45. Caribbean Cement traded more orderly on Friday, than it did on Thursday when there were wild price swings and closed today with an increase of $2 to $24 with 4,884 shares trading. Carreras fell 5 cents to end at $60 with 60,210 units changing hands, Gleaner Company traded 7,400 shares to gain 30 cents to close at $2.70, Grace Kennedy closed at $80.21, with 20,240 units changing hands. Jamaica Broilers fell $1.51 to close at $11.50 with 256,650 shares changing hands. Jamaica Producers had 3,570 shares trading as the price rose by 10 cents to $32.30, Jamaica Stock Exchange gained $1 and closed at a 52 weeks’ high of $20 while trading 200,000 shares, JMMB Group traded 83,100 units to end with a loss of 18 cents at $11.77. Kingston Wharves traded 8,341 units to close at $11.15, Margaritaville Turks came into its own after reporting profits of US$518,134 in the six months to November last year versus $279,000 in 2014. The stock traded 1,128,920 units at 10.5 US cents each. Mayberry Investments traded 327,979 shares and lost 2 cents to end at $4.70, National Commercial Bank ended with a loss of 99 cents at $40.51 with 257,266 units changing hands, Pan Jamaican Investments fell 9 cents to close at $94.06 with 8,528 shares trading.
138 Student Living Jamaica traded 985 shares at a 52 weeks’ high of $5.10, after rising by 35 cents, Radio Jamaica gained 40 cents in trading 32,400 shares to close at a 52 weeks’ high of $6. Sagicor Group fell 65 cents to close at $22.80 with 365,894 units changing hands, Scotia Group dropped $4.90 with 346,798 shares changing hands to close at $30.09, Scotia Investments recovered the $3.10 it lost on Thursday to close at $29.90 after 18,469 units traded. Seprod dropped $2.49 with 83,600 shares trading and closed at $18.51, Supreme Ventures gained 4 cents to end at $4.70 with 70,820 units changing hands, Proven Investments ordinary share traded 40,730 units at 22 US cents, down from 22.99 US cents.
Jamaica Public Service 9.5% preference share traded for the first time in months, with 33,000 units valued at $39,633,000 changing hands to close at a 52 weeks’ high of $1,201, for an increase of $76 and Proven Investments 8% preference shares traded 100,000 units at $5.

49 securities traded as JSE gains big

Scotia Group helped to push the main market indices sharply.

There was a high number of securities trading on the Jamaica Stock Exchange on Wednesday, with 49 being active in all market segments. At the close 24 securities in the combined markets gained and 9 declined. Six stocks closed at 52 weeks’ highs.
At the close, 9,739,157 units valued at $69,117,631 changed hands in all markets with the junior market accounting for 5,129,787 units, valued at $30,252,961.
Scotia Group help to push the main market indices sharply higher as it traded during the day at $35, with the index computed on an average price of $34.23, the stock last traded at $30.10. The JSE Market Index jumped 3,767.19 points to 160,847.44, the all Jamaica Composite Index made a sharp upturn with 4,210.06 points to end at 178,712.39 and the JSE combined index rose sharply by 3,534.70 points to close at 172,939.83.

In trading, Barita traded 13,800 shares and fell 20 cents to close at $3.80, Berger Paints ended with 518,126 shares trading at $3.20, for a fall of 70 cents, Cable and Wireless ended with 1,543,691 units changing hands to close at $1.40, but traded as high as $1.50 before the close. Caribbean Cement gained 10 cents to end at $25.10 with 77,398 shares trading, the stock traded as high as $27.50 during the day. Carreras lost $1 to end at $60 with 94,600 units changing hands, Ciboney traded 72,323 shares at 25 cents, Gleaner Company traded 109,622 shares to close at $2.70, Grace Kennedy climbed back to $84, with a rise of $3.80, as 757 units changed hands. Jamaica Broilers gained 30 cents to close at $11.50 with 54,818 shares changing hands, for a new 52 weeks’ high. Jamaica Producers had 8,257 shares trading as the price inched up by 4 cents to $31.60, Jamaica Stock Exchange rose 18 cents to end at $19 while trading 29,100 shares, JMMB Group traded 147,734 units to end at $12, Kingston Wharves traded 13,400 units but lost 5 cents to close at $11.20.

Mayberry Investments traded 71,024 shares and gained 10 cents to end at $4.80, National Commercial Bank ended at $41.49 with 33,790 units changing hands, Pan Jamaican Investments rose 99 cents to close at $96 with 6,500 shares trading. Radio Jamaica traded 42,205 shares but closed $5.60. Sagicor Group gained of 50 cents to close at a 52 weeks’ closing high at $23.50 with 266,030 units changing hands, Sagicor Real Estate Fund traded 12,400 shares and lost 60 cents to end at $11, Scotia Group closed with 158,508 shares changing hands at $30.10, Scotia Investments gained $3.10 to close at $26,989 after 121,032 units traded. Seprod rose by $1 as it traded 6,037 units to end at $21, Supreme Ventures regained 3 cents to end at $4.66 with 114,784 units changing hands, Proven Investments ordinary share traded 523,177 units to end at 22.98 US cents and the companies 8 percent preference share traded 52,666 units at $5.

Sharp drop in some prices on JSE

Grace Kennedy fell $4.13 to $80.20.

The Jamaica Stock Exchange main market fell on Tuesday as Grace Kennedy, Scotia Group and Scotia Investments fell by more than $2, while JMMB Group and Pan Jam fell by nearly $1 but the junior market continued on its merry way to record yet another new high.
At the close, 9,739,157 units valued at $109,231,948 changed hands in all markets with the junior market accounting for 5,129,787 units, valued at $30,252,961.
The JSE Market Index declined by 696.34 points to 157,080.25, the all Jamaica Composite Index fell 778.20 points to end at 174,502.33 and the JSE combined index rose 225.21 points to close at 169,405.13.
Trading resulted in 44 active securities in all market segments as 14 in the combined markets gained and 19 declined. Six stocks closed at 52 weeks’ highs.

Mayberry Investments traded 426,379 shares and gained 5 cents to end at $4.70, National Commercial Bank fell 2 cents to end at $41.49, with 163,857 units changing hands, Pan Jamaican Investments fell 99 cents to close at $95.01 with 109,010 shares trading. Radio Jamaica trade just 200 shares but closed with a gain of 10 cents to a 52 weeks’ high of $5.60, Sagicor Group closed at $23 with 109,760 units changing hands, Sagicor Real Estate Fund traded 9,000 shares at $11.60, Scotia Group lost $2.65 to close with 289,935 shares changing hands at $30.10. Scotia Investments dropped $2.22 to close at $26.80 after 61,048 units traded, Seprod traded 18,206 units and fell 60 cents to end at $20, Supreme Ventures fell 3 cents to end at $4.63 with 754,726 units changing hands and Proven Investments ordinary share traded 612,564 units to end at 21.75 US cents, down from 22.87 US cents.

JSE main market rebounds on Monday

Scotia Group traded at a new 52 weeks’ high of $32.75 on Monday.

The Jamaica Stock Exchange closed on Monday with wild swings in the indices with the main markets rising quite strongly in the early morning session only to see it fall by 11 am but regained lost ground to be up strongly at the close. The junior market surged out of the block from the start with that index rising over 8 percent at the peak.
The JSE Market Index jumped 1,053.22 points to 157,776.59, the all Jamaica Composite Index 1,177.02 points to end at 175,280.53 and the JSE combined index rose 2,503.44 points to close at 169,179.92.
At the close, 6,236,086 units valued at only $35,592,624 changed hands in all markets with the junior market accounting for of 2,024,430 units changed hands, valued at $9,319,672. Trading was broad based with a total of 43 active securities in all market segments as 25 in the combined markets gained and 12 declined. Eight stocks closed at 52 weeks’ highs and two traded at intraday highs.

12 new highs as JSE explodes Wednesday

Twelve stocks traded at 52 weeks’ closing highs as the Jamaica Stock Exchange main market exploded by the close of trading with the main indices jumping between 2,496 and 2,870 points, as JMMB Group jumped to $11.10, National Commercial Bank moved to a record close of $42, Sagicor group jumped to a new closing high of $22.
The JSE Market Index surged 2,568.62 points to 154,252.66, the all Jamaica Composite Index soared by 2,870.57 points to end at 171,342.34 and the JSE combined index leapt 2,496.15 points to close at 162,129.73.
At the close, 17,158,401 units valued at $122,672,205 changed hands in all markets with the junior market accounting for of 3,347,529 units changed hands, valued at $9,025,299. Trading was broad based with a total of 44 active securities in all market segments as 25 in the combined markets rising and 10 declining.
The main market seems on its way to 185,000 points level the nest major area of resistance having been moving well away from resistance around the 165,000 points level on the all Jamaica composite index.

IC bid-offer Indicator| At the end of trading, in the main and junior markets, the Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator had a reading of 15 stocks with bids higher than their last selling prices and 4 with lower offers.
In trading, Berger Paints ended with 4,349,578 shares trading at $3.16, for a rise of 1 cent. Cable and Wireless fell 5 cents, with 390,428 units changing hands to close at $1.35, Caribbean Cement jumped $1.50 to end at a 52 weeks’ high of $21, with 163,870 shares trading, Carreras closed at $61, with 1,720 units changing hands for a rise of 15 cents. Ciboney traded 57,841 shares with price rising 4 cents to 25 cents, Desnoes and Geddes traded 1,417 shares but closed down 5 cents to $29, Gleaner Company traded 710,170 shares at $2.50 with a 45 cents gain. Grace Kennedy closed with 4,031 units changing hands, for 50 cents higher at $84.70, Jamaica Broilers rose 30 cents and closed at a 52 weeks’ high of $10.75 with 34,091 shares changing hands, Jamaica Producers traded 5,000 shares to end at $31.99 for a loss of 1 cent. Jamaica Stock Exchange traded 37,839 shares to close at $18.60. JMMB Group traded 1,104,439 units and rose 65 cents to end at a 52 weeks high of $11.10,

JSE starts 2016 on a new high

NCB closed at new high of $40.50 on Monday.

The Jamaica stock market started the new-year where it left off the old with all three main indices making generous gains to reach new records. The JSE Market Index climbed 777.23 points to 151,469.36, the all Jamaica Composite Index rose 868.60 points to end at 168,231.85 and the JSE combined index gained 945.76 points to close at 159,214.90.
At the close, 5,096,460 units valued at $149,875,337 changed hands in all markets with the junior market accounting for of 1,707,388 units, valued at $6,741,784. A total of 35 securities traded in all market segments, 17 of which in the combined markets gained and 8 declined. Five stocks traded at 52 weeks’ closing high and 2 at intraday 52 weeks’ high as investors continue to push prices higher.
The main market was facing resistance around the 165,000 points level, the on the all Jamaica composite index, now that it has crossed it and seems to be moving away. This level appears to be moving towards support for the market.

Carreras closed at $60, with 2,261,300 units changing hands for 82 cents fall but not until after it traded at a new 52 weeks’ intraday high of $62, Gleaner Company traded 52,000 shares at $1.70 with a 40 cents increase. Grace Kennedy with 2,483 units changing hands finished $2.75 higher at $84, Jamaica Broilers rose 25 cents and closed at $10.50 with 124,677 shares changing hands, Jamaica Producers traded 1,000 shares to end at $32, after rising $1.32,

Jamaica Stock Exchange gained 39 cents in trading 1,400 shares at $18.99, National Commercial Bank gained 50 cents to end at a 52 weeks’ high of $40.50, with 12,145 units changing hands. 138 Student Living had 260,933 units trading at a 52 weeks’ high of $4.60 after rising by 10 cents, Radio Jamaica had 51,000 shares trading with a gain of 42 cents to end at $4.08, Sagicor Group closed at $20 with 24,426 units changing hands, Scotia Group had 36,809 shares changing hands at $30.01. Seprod closed with a loss of 44 cents at $20.56 with 2,938 shares trading, Supreme Ventures ended at $4.66 with 208,363 units changing hands and Jamaica Money Market Brokers 7.25% preference share traded 26,000 units to gain 4 cents and ended at $2.06.

JSE closes 2015 on a new high

Sagicor Group HQ – its stock traded at a new high of $20 on the JSE

The Jamaica stock market ended a momentous 2015 with all three main indices making generous gains to reach new record highs, with the JSE combined market index recording gains of 102 percent for the year to date and the all Jamaica composite up 99 percent.
At the close, 6,627,296 units valued at $58,113,757 changed hands in all markets with the junior market accounting for 4,049,568 units, valued at $15,799,898. A total of 36 securities traded in all market segments, 19 of which in the combined markets gained and 8 declined. Four stocks traded at 52 weeks’ closing high and 1 at intraday 52 weeks’ high as investors continue to push prices higher.
At the close the JSE Market Index climbed 874.37 points to 150,692.13, the all Jamaica Composite Index rose 977.16 points to end at 167,363.25 and the JSE combined index gained 815.65 points to close at 158,269.14. The main market was facing resistance around the 165,000 points level, the on the all Jamaica composite index, now that it has crossed it,

the first week in 2016 will show if that level will now provide strong support for launch higher.

In trading, Cable and Wireless fell 4 cents with 91,865 units changing hands to close at $1.30 after trading as high as $1.45, Caribbean Cement fell 10 cents to end at $19.90, with 288,060 shares trading, Carreras closed at $60.82, with 8,378 units changing hands for 3 cents fall. Gleaner Company traded 2,661 shares at $1.30 with a 10 cents decline but had a bid at $1.49 to buy 10,240 shares. Grace Kennedy with 1,728 units changing hands finished higher by $1.15 at $81.25, Jamaica Broilers rose 25 cents and closed at $10.25 with 477,964 shares changing hands, Jamaica Producers traded 4,891 shares to end at $30.68, after falling 32 cents.

Jamaica Stock Exchange shed 39 cents in trading 100,000 shares at $18.60, Kingston Wharves closed at $11.35 with 41,990 shares changing hands, 5 cents higher. National Commercial Bank gained 99 cents to end at a 52 weeks’ high of $40, with 170,396 units changing hands, the stock traded as high as $40.02 for a 52 weeks’ intraday high. Pan Jamaican Investment had 4,140 shares trading with a gain of $1 to $94, Sagicor Group gained $1.50 and closed at $20 for 52 weeks’ high with 37,610 units changing hands, Scotia Group had 163,055 shares changing hands at $30.01 after falling by $1.48. Scotia Investments closed at $30 with only 5,000 shares trading and Supreme Ventures rose 4 cents and ended at $4.66 with 509,719 units changing hands.
