JSE majors start 2017 with a bang

Bulls are lurching around the juniors.

Prices surged 2,072.41 points for local companies on the main market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange, to close at an all-time high on the first trading day of 2017.
The All Jamaica Composite Index surged 2,072.41 points, to close at 212,211.90. The JSE Market Index climbed 1,853.11 points to finish at 194,129.75. The JSE combined index jumped 1,592.05 points to close at 206,552.15.
Market activity ended with 36 securities changing hands. At the close, the prices of 13 stocks gained while 15 declined in the overall market, including 2 stocks rising and 5 falling, in the junior market.
At the close with 7,231,425 units valued at $86,467,161 changed hands, compared to 24,274,905 units valued at $227,761,009 changing hands on Thursday. Of the stocks traded, the junior market accounted for 294,809 units changing hands, valued at $1,529,067.
The average trade for the day in the main market ended at 289,026 shares compared to an average of 149,740 units traded on Friday. December ended with an average of 549,379 units.

JSE majors rise 25.6% to record close for 2016

Prices surged 3,760 points for local companies on the main market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange, to close at an all-time high on the final trading day of 2016. The market ended with the All Jamaica Composite Index climbing 25.6 percent for the year to date, the JSE market index gaining 28 percent and the Combined index that includes all listed ordinary shares, rising 30 percent.
The All Jamaica Composite Index surged 3,760.52 points, to close at 210,139.49. The JSE Market Index climbed 3,362.57 points to finish at 192,276.64. The JSE combined index jumped 3,106.50 points to close at 204,960.10.
Market activity ended with 41 securities changing hands. At the close, the prices of 21 stocks gained while 12 declined in the overall market, including 10 stocks rising and 3 falling, in the junior market.

The market ended with the All Jamaica Composite Index climbing 23 percent for the year to date, the JSE market index gaining 25 percent and the Combined index rising 28 percent.
The All Jamaica Composite Index fell 371.99 points, to close at 206,378.97. The JSE Market Index declined 332.62 points to finish at 188,914.07. The JSE combined index shed 89.56 points to close at 201,853.60.
Market activity ended with 39 securities changing hands. At the close, the prices of 21 stocks gained while 10 declined in the overall market, including 8 stocks rising and 4 falling, in the junior market.

The JSE Market Index dropped 952.36 points to finish at 186,056.31. The JSE combined index declined by 647.20 points to close at 198,710.84, with gain for the year to date, of 26 percent.
Market activity ended with 43 securities changing hands. At the close, the prices of 12 stocks gained while 20 declined in the overall market, including 4 stocks rising and 8 falling, in the junior market.
Supreme Ventures was by far the leading trade with 9,605,483 units with a value of $47.69 million to end unchanged at $5.

Jamaican stocks break the 205,000 mark

JSE inx 19-12-16 The All Jamaica Composite Index surged sharply by more than 3,100 points shortly before the close of trading on Monday to a new intraday high of 205,169.41, but closed with a gain of 2,311.21 points, to end at a new record close of 204,248.09 to be up by 22 percent for the year to date.
The JSE Market Index jumped 2,066.63 points to finish at a record 187,008.67. The JSE combined index ballooned by 3,136.04 points to first time to end at close above the 200,000 points level for the first time to a record 200,132.17 but closed trading up 2,361.91 points to a record close of 199,358.04, with gain for the year to date, of 26 percent.
Market activity ended with 36 securities changing hands, at the close, the prices of 20 stocks gained while 7 declined in the overall market, including 9 stocks rising and 2 falling, in the junior market.
Grace Kennedy was by far the leading trade with 7,715,941 units with a value of $877.98 million to end at $40, after falling 99 cents.
At the close with 15,872,231 units valued at $373,022,747 changed hands, compared to 7,137,871 units valued at $101,431,149 changing hands on Friday. Of the stocks traded, the junior market accounted for 5,515,300 units changing hands, valued at $26,556,207.
