JSE soft in early trading – Friday

Trading on the Jamaica Stock Exchange is off to a modest start on Friday. Trading in junior market stocks has seen a small number of securities trading. Trading volume and values were up from Thursday’s level with advancing stocks being beating declining ones.
ICI -JSE fn Qts -20-10-16The all Jamaica Composite Index fell 202.13 points to 184,047.20 the Jamaica Stock Exchange Market Index slipped 180.73 points to 165,612.71, the Jamaica Stock Exchange combined index declined 170.39 points to close at 177,955.13 and the junior market index inched down 0.27 points to 2,372.03.
At 10.45 am, a total of 25 securities traded, resulting in a volume of 1,743,200 shares changing hands carrying a value of $7,392,869, compared to 893,707 shares changing hands carrying a value of $6,616,329, on Thursday.
The average number of shares traded amounts to 69,728 units compared to 40,623 on Thursday. Market activity resulted in 7 stocks falling while the prices of 10 securities rose.
In trading activity JMMB Group dropped from $13.02 to $11.51, while trading 250,000 units, Mayberry Investments have exchanged 131,000 units at $3.50, Proven Investments had 1,002,300 shares changing hands at 16.5 US cents down from 19.95 US cents. Scotia Investments climbed $2.95 with 17,850 shares to $33.95.

JSE majors in big fall on Wednesday

stocks The main market indices of the Jamaica Stock Exchange got clobbered on Wednesday with the all Jamaica Composite Index dropping 2,404.09 points before the close of trading and ended down by with a smaller loss of 1,423.88 at 185,219.39.
The JSE Market Index had dived 2,146.93 points ahead of closing, but clawed back some of the losses, to finish at 166,660.85, having lost 1,273.21 points and the JSE combined index which plunged 2,038.87 points ahead of the close, lost 1,267.83 points to end at 178,971.13 and held a 13 percent for the year to date.
At the close 3,225,271 units valued at $32,690,159 changed hands, compared to 11,005,276 units valued at $189,009,513 changing hands on Tuesday. The junior market accounted for 1,741,347 units trading valued at $9,759,413 of the stocks traded.
The average trade for the day in the main market ended at 59,357 units, compared to an average for the month to date of 121,849 units. On Tuesday, an average of 241,975 units traded with the average for the month to date being 184,341.

Stocks hit new highs in trading on the Jamaica Stock Exchange at the close on Friday with the all Jamaica Composite Index leaping 1,691.30 points to close at 186,844.07, for an 11.6 percent rise for the year to date. Market ended with 38 securities trading, the prices of 12 gained while 14 declined in the overall market, including just 1 stock rising and 7 falling, in the junior market.
At the close, the JSE Market Index jumped 1,512.33 points to a record close of 168,113.61 and the JSE combined index surged 1,476.85 points, to end at 181,079.45.
The market is surging to new highs on limited volumes, not an unusual development in the early phase of a bull market as selling is reduced and buyers try to get stocks close to recent traded prices. The Jamaica Stock Exchange all Jamaica Composite and the JSE Index failed to hold on to the record high hit during the morning session and fell back to close just over 500 points short of the record reached in February. The JSE Combined index hit a new closing record, bettering the level that it closed at on Thursday.
Trading ended with the prices of 14 securities gaining out of a total of 40 trading, while 14 declined in the overall market, including 7 stocks rising and 8 falling, in the junior market.
At the close 43,448,695 units valued at $912,734,040, changed hands, compared to the 3,849,357 units valued at $41,532,118 changing hands on Thursday. The junior market accounted for 3,440,359 units valued at $12,272,247 of the stocks traded.
At the close, the JSE Market Index climbed 427.61 points to end at 164,482.25. The all Jamaica Composite Index rose 478.22 points to close at 182,782.97 and the JSE combined index climbed 560.98 points, to end at 177,090.44 for a new record high.

Sagicor Group gained 1 cent in trading 28,272,885 shares to close at $23.81 and left just one sell order amounting to 2,000 shares at $25, in the market. The lack of supply for Sagicor could be a big signal of an upward movement for the stock, Sagicor Real Estate Fund rose 5 cents in trading 5,603,612 shares to close with at $10.25, Scotia Group lost 50 cents and closed at $31.50 with 890,433 shares changing hands and Seprod traded 1,258 shares to end at $22.
