Majors retreat from record high – Wednesday

JSE frnt 2 Stocks ended trading on the Jamaica Stock Exchange with the main market closing with a gain of 11 percent year to date, the market indices dropped more than 1,293 points. The market closed with 38 securities trading as the prices of 16 gained while 11 declined in the overall market, including 4 stocks rising and 5 falling, in the junior market.
At the close, the all Jamaica Composite Index dropped 1,446.17 points to end at a new closing high of 186,051.83, the JSE Market Index dived 1,293.13 points to a record close of 167,405.20 and the JSE combined index fell 1,406.74 points, to end at record high of 179,846.66, up 15 percent for the year to date.
At the close 19,800,887 units valued at $274,090,977 changed hands, compared to 10,379,971 units valued at $217,529,448 changing hands on Tuesday. The junior market accounted for 9,170,473 units valued at $51,520,805 of the stocks traded.

In market activity, Barita Investments gained 14 cents in trading 23,600 shares at $4.54, Berger Paints traded 61,363 shares and lost 5 cents to close at $5.65 after trading at an intraday high of $6.25, Cable & Wireless closed at 98 cents with 296,835 units trading, Caribbean Cement traded 25,726 shares to close at $33. Carreras had 742,353 shares changing hands at $65.99 after slipping 1 cent, trading in 1834 Investments ended with 5,836 shares changing hands to close at $1.20, Grace Kennedy lost 1 cent and closed with 470,573 shares changing hands at $41.98, Jamaica Broilers traded 1,117,335 units but rose 10 cents to close at $14.41. Jamaica Producers ended with 1,730 shares changing hands to close at $8.25, Jamaica Stock Exchange gained 70 cents and ended at $28 while trading 27,486 shares, JMMB Group shed 2 cents in trading 1,106,992 units to close at $14.98, Kingston Properties rose 6 cents in trading 664,191 shares to close at $9.06. ICI -JSE fn Qts -12-10-16Kingston Wharves lost 45 cents in trading 22,970 shares to close at $17.50, Mayberry Investments traded 3,943 shares to close with a gain 10 cents at $3.50, National Commercial Bank traded 728,535 shares and gained 25 cents to end at $42.40, Pan Jamaican Investments rose 30 cents to close at $23.30 after trading 421,985 shares. Portland JSX traded 3,334,455 units with the price rising by 9 cents to end at $11.06, Sagicor Group gained 15 cents in trading 178,182 shares to end at $24, Scotia Group gained 19 cents to close at $30.20 with 486,698 shares changing hands. Scotia Investments had 476,900 units changing hands to close at $30, Seprod traded 12,010 shares to close at $23.50, Supreme Ventures lost 1 cent and closed at $4.79 with 45,090 shares changing. Proven Investments closed at 20 US cents with 20,300 shares trading and Jamaica Money Market Brokers 7.5% preference share gained 1 cent in trading 355,130 units at $2.10.
