Lumber Depot profit bolted higher

Lumber Depot profit surges

Profits at Lumber Depot bolted 555 percent from $22 million for the nine months in 2020 to $145 million for the year ended April 2021, as it grew revenues 14.7 percent to $1.43 billion from $921 million in 2020 nine months period.
The company operates a hardware store in Papine, St Andrew, for more than two decades and generated revenues that rose 7 percent in the April quarter over the January 2021 quarter to $377 million from $353 million and 21 percent over the April 2020 quarter of $311 million. Gross profit margin for the full year was 21 percent, an improvement on the 18 percent for the 2020 nine months period. Administrative costs rose 42 percent to $154 million from $108 million in the nine months to March 2020, but it would be up by 7 percent if the comparative periods were the same number of months.
Cash inflows for the year pulled in $157 million, but after working capital adjustments the amount climbed to $186 million and ended the year with a net gain of $114 million after dividend payment of $14 million and loan repaymentof $33 million. The company has cash funds of $143 million and investments of $117 million at the end of April, with the latter shown as a noncurrent asset.
Current assets stood at $317 million and current liabilities at $139 million, resulting in net current assets of $178 million. Shareholders’ equity grew 68 percent to $523 million and pushed cash and investments to $360 million from $129 million in 2020.
The company reports earnings per share of 21 cents, up from just 3 cents in 2020.
The stock traded 580,827 units up to $3.65 in early trading on the Junior Market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange, but the price dropped back to close at $3.50  at a PE of 16.7 times 2021 earnings and 13 times ICInsider.com’s projection of 27 cents for 2022.

Caribbean Producers shifts to Main Market

Caribbean Producers is set to shifts to Jamaica Stock Exchange Main market at the start of trading on Tuesday, having completed ten years on the Junior Market.

Caribbean Producers traded 52 weeks’ high on Monday.

The switch now reflects no bids and offers for the stock that lasts, traded at $4.95 on Monday, with the highest bid being $4.86 to purchase 10,764 shares and the lowest offer at $4.94 to sell 142,428 shares. The stock traded 58,282 units on Monday at a 52 weeks’ high of $5.05.
The shift to the main market could open up new buying opportunities for the stock as some investors see stocks listed on the main market as better investment options for them than Junior Market stocks.
CPJ, a major supplier to the hotel trade, is benefiting currently from a strong rebound in tourist traffic into the country, with 39 percent more passenger arrivals coming into the country in June compared to May this year on top of a 44 percent spike in passenger arrivals through the airport for the second city of the country May over April.
The indication is that visitor arrivals should hit 105,000 in May, up from 82,702 in April. June arrivals through the airport topped 142,000 for the first time since the industry opened up for foreign visitors in June last year. June this year ended with 142,727 arrivals for the month, amounting to 61 percent of the June 2019 numbers of 239,000.
The stock is up 78 percent for the year from $2.80 to $4.98. CPJ is the third Junior Market to move to the Main Market and follows Eppley and Key Insurance.

Grace & Jetcon are back ICTOP10

Jetcon Corporation returns the Junior Market TOP10 after the price slipped from $1.39 last week to $1.35 at the close of the week, replacing tTech that enjoyed a slight price bounce from $4.40 last week to $4.75 this week, while in the JSE Main Market Grace Kennedy returns after a week’s absence and replaces Jamaica Broilers that is now out.
Jamaica Broilers reported full year results, with profits of $2.3 billion up 67 percent from $1.4 billion in 2020 for earnings per share of $2.30. ICInsider.com now projects $3.30 earnings per share for the 2022 fiscal year and that is not enough to keep it in the TOP10.
The performance of the Jamaica Stock Exchange Main Market continues to lag well behind the Junior Market, with the fall in the financial sector led by NCB Financial Group being a major drag on the main market, but values in the Junior Market are far more favourable than those in the main market and that is eloquently told by the average PE ratios of both markets.
This past week the average gains projected for the Junior Market rose from 200 percent last week to 202 percent and Main Market stocks edged down from last week’s 171 percent to 168 percent.
The top three Junior Market stocks are Elite Diagnostic, Caribbean Ass. Brokers and General Accident, with potential gains between 240 and 282 percent, following the range of 223 and 287 percent last week. The top three Main Market stocks are Radio Jamaica in the number one spot, followed by JMMB Group and Guardian Holdings, with expected gains of 169 to 379 percent versus last weeks’ 188 to 385 percent.
The Junior Market closed the week with an average PE 12.9 based on ICInsider.com’s 2021-22 earnings and currently trades well below the target of 20 as well as the recent historical average of 17 for the period to March this year based on 2020 earnings. For the Junior Market to trade at the historical average, the PE Ratio would have to rise by 32 percent and requires a rise of 53 percent to reach the targeted PE of 20 by March 2022. Main Market stocks would need to rise by 11 percent to hit a PE of 19 and 17 percent to get to the target of 20.
The Junior Market Top 10 stocks average PE is a mere 6.8, just 53 percent of the market average, indicating substantial gains ahead. The JSE Main Market ended the week with an overall PE of 17, a little distance from the 19 the market ended at in March, suggesting just a 12 percent rise at a PE of 19 and 18 percent at a PE of 20 from now to March 2022. The Main Market TOP 10 trades at a PE of 7.9 or 47 percent of the PE of that market, well off the potential of 20.
IC TOP10 stocks are likely to deliver the best returns up to March 2022 and ranked in order of potential gains, based on likely increase for each company, taking into account the earnings and PE ratios for the current fiscal year. Expected values will change as stock prices fluctuate and result in movements in and out of the lists weekly. Revisions to earnings per share are ongoing, based on receipt of new information.

Grace Kennedy exits ICTOP10 with record price

The Junior Market recovered all of its Covid-19 related loss and more in hitting its highest level this week, since the first week of December 2019, helped by a number of ICInsider.com Top stocks of which 6 recorded gains between 69 percent and 81 and two over 100 percent, with the market up 29 percent for 2021 to date.
At the close of the week, tTech entered the Junior Market TOP10 and ISP Finance fell out after the price of the latter climbed from $17.98 to $22.43 and in the Main Market long time TOP10 candidate Grace Kennedy finally slipped out with a record breaking price of $105.98 for a 64 percent rise since January, allowing Sterling Investments to return to the TOP10.
The Jamaica Stock Exchange Main Market has not performed as well as the Junior Market, with the fall in the financial sector led by NCB Financial Group, but there are a few individual stocks that continue to deliver gains in 2021 and a few that possess the potential to move decidedly higher.
This past week the average gains projected for the Junior Market slipped from 204 percent last week to 200 percent and Main Market stocks edged down from last week’s 172 percent to 171 percent.
The top three stocks in the Junior Market are Elite, Caribbean Assurance and Medical Disposables, with the potential to gain between 223 and 287 percent, following the range of 254 to 276 percent last week. The top three Main Market stocks are Radio Jamaica in the number one spot, followed by JMMB Group and Guardian Holdings, with expected gains of 171 to 379 percent versus last weeks’ 188 to 385 percent.
The Junior Market closed the week with an average PE 13.1 based on ICInsider.com’s 2021-22 earnings and currently trades well below the target of 20 as well as the recent historical average of 17 for the period to March this year based on 2020 earnings. For the Junior Market to trade at the historical average, the PE Ratio would have to rise by 31 percent and requires a rise of 54 percent to reach the targeted PE of 20 by March 2022. The Main Market TOP 10 trades at a PE of 7.8 or 45 percent of the PE of that market, well off the potential of 20.

Timely data critical for proper market functioning

Persons running the financial market seem not to understand the import of data to the proper functioning of the Jamaica market.
The Jamaica Stock Exchange has granted 45 days extension for companies to file their audited financial statements for 2021 to July 14, 2021. The extension assists management and auditors in managing the execution of audits at a challenging time and that may be fine, but what about the users of the reports?
While that can be appreciated, insufficient thought has gone into the decision. The companies and auditors are not the only persons to be accommodated in this issue. Investors need timely information to make decisions. Management of the companies are clearly not concerned about their shareholders either and the Jamaica Stock Exchange seems to care even less even though they will state otherwise.
This publication wonders why could the decision to extend the time by 45 days not have required the companies concerned to file interim results to obtain the extension, that way investors would be in a far better position than having to wait more than three months to get up to date position on the finances of such companies.
After all, minority shareholders have rights too and deserve better than what they are getting.

Staffing chopped 30% at CPJ

Successful investors usually have keen eyes that spot good opportunities from afar before the crowd usually finds out that seems to be the case at the Montego Bay based Caribbean Producers (CPJ).

Caribbean Producers back in TOP 10

We have cut staffing from 450 to 315 and we did a lot of cost containment and some amount of restructuring of the operations, which Mark Hart, chairman of the company, puts at US$600,000 per annum. According to Hart, they believe that the manning levels will be adequate for the immediate future.
CPJ chalked up losses following the closure of the hotels last year and while the company lost money up to the March quarter this year, the stock price has more than doubled since the end of June last year, moving from $2.06 to $4.74 on Thursday. Most investors missed the train on this one.
The first thing investors ought to have observed was the reopening of the tourist sector with increasing visitor arrivals since travel restrictions were lifted in June last year. The second was a reduction in cost at the company and the strong cash flow since the closure in March last year.
One of the best signals, pointing to improvement, was trading in the stock by insiders and connected parties since the latter part of 2020. Last month, the company advised the Jamaica Stock Exchange that a connected party purchased 470,707 units of the company’s shares on June 29.
On December 23, last year, a connected party purchased 464,765 shares that followed a connected party purchase of 2,930,211 shares at around $2.63 on December 8. On November 25, last year, another connected party purchase took place for 185,002 shares. The only negative message was to the sale by a connected party of 5,500,500 shares on April 20, this year, at approximately $3.74. A deeper review by ICInsider.com indicates that the sale was a specially arranged deal to someone close to the seller. On February 19, the stocks closed, trading at $2.67 with just 12,000 shares traded but on the next day, 752,023 shares traded with the last traded price of $3.20, and then on the next day, 8,622,338 shares traded at $3.50. The above trades are a big vote of confidence that things were on the mend for the company.
Following the above, it should not be surprising to hear two directors speaking glowingly about developments at the company over the past year and plans for expansion for the future. “We have seen quick recovery for our core business,” said Thomas Tyler.
Hart stated that he thinks that the forecast made by Don Theoc of Mayberry Investments of $6 for the company’s shares in the next twelve months is conservative.
“We have expanded our grocery stores in St Lucia from 3,000 to 8,000 square feet in May and we are building out 9,000 square feet grocery store in the centre of Castries and working on breaking ground and should be ready in six to nine months.  In the north of St Lucia, we are looking at a 19,000 square foot retail store and in Montego Bay, we are expanding a 1,200 square feet retail store to 6,000 square feet.” “We have identified acquisition candidate in Jamaica and we are exploring,” Thomas Tyler stated; he went on to further state that the plan is “for revenues in St Lucia to move from US$15 million per annum now to $50 million in 3 years.”
The company suffered a loss of US$903,258 for the March quarter, up from US$553780 in the similar period last year and for the nine months to March, the loss ballooned to US$3.6 million from a loss of just US$29,609 in the prior year.
Sale revenues dropped 52 percent for the quarter, to US$12.7 million from US$26.5 million but fell 57 percent for the year to date, to US$37 million from US$86 million in 2020.
The company enjoyed an improved profit margin in the March quarter, with gross profit falling at a slower pace of 56.4 compared to the steeper decline in revenues, but gross profit for the nine months period, slipped by 54 percent.
Selling and administrative expenses fell 37 percent to $3.2 million in the quarter and 42 percent in the nine months period to US$9.4 million from US$16.4 million.
Finance cost declined in the quarter, to $442,000 from $581 million in 2020 and $1.83 million to $1.34 million for the nine months period, while depreciation was fall at US$1 million for the quarter and US$3.2 million for the year to date period.
The rationalization resulted in Inventories falling from US$28 million in March 2020 to US$18.7 million receivables fell from US$18 million down to US$10.5 million, while payables fell from US$15.3 million to US$6.33 million. Some of the declines are due to a lower level of business activity. Amounts borrowed to fund the operations remained at a high US$34 million, with shareholders’ equity of just $14 million.

Medical Disposables acquisition expansion

Medical Disposables and Supplies entered into an asset acquisition agreement with Cornwall Medical and Dental Supplies, a Montego Bay based company that distributes island-wide medical equipment, medical disposable products as well as a wide range of dental supplies.

The Company also operates three pharmacies, two in Montego Bay and one in Savanna-la-Mar, under the brand name Corn-med Pharmacy. “The vehicle which will be used to carry the operation is a newly formed subsidiary, Cornwall Enterprises Limited, in which MDS will own 60 percent stake,” stated Medical Disposables and Supplies in a release to the Jamaica Stock Exchange.
Medical Disposables and Supplies is listed on the Junior Market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange and is a distributor of medical and Pharmaceutical supplies island-wide.

JMMB moves to #2 in Main Market ICTOP10

The two main Jamaica Stock Exchange markets may have broken loose from the area of resistance, but they continue to be hemmed in around current trading levels, with Junior Market closing below last week’s close with three days of decline and the Main market had three days of decline but ended the week with a fall of points after recording a strong rise the previous week.
Caribbean Cream is back with earnings per share now at 70 cents for the current year, while Future Energy Source reached new highs during the week and is out of the IC Junior Market TOP10. In the Main Market, there was no change in the list, but earnings per share for JMMB Group is upgraded to $6 for the current year and the stock is now the second best main market stock, with potential to gain over 200 percent for the next twelve months.
There are still several stocks that are severely undervalued, with the scope to record above average gains up to the first half of 2022. This past week the average gains projected for the Junior stocks slipped from 207 percent last week to 204 percent and the Main Market stocks moved up from last week’s 166 percent up to 172 percent with the upgrading of JMMB earnings.
The top three stocks in the Junior Market continue to be Elite Diagnostic heading the list, followed by Caribbean Assurance Brokers and Medical Disposables, with the potential to gain from 254 to 276 percent, after the range fell from 247 to 300 percent last week. The top three Main Market stocks are Radio Jamaica in the number one spot, followed by JMMB Group and Guardian Holdings, with expected gains of 171 to 379 percent versus last weeks’ 160 to 391 percent.
The Junior Market closed the week with an average PE 13.1 based on ICInsider.com’s 2021-22 earnings and currently trades well below the target of 20 and the recent historical average of 17 for the period to March this year based on 2020 earnings. For the market to trade at the historical average, the PE Ratio would have to rise by 31 percent and require a rise of 52 percent to March 2022 to reach the targeted PE of 20.
The Junior Market Top 10 stocks average PE is a mere 6.8, just 51 percent of the market average, indicating substantial gains ahead. The JSE Main Market ended the week with an overall PE of 17.1, a little distance from the 19 the market ended at in March, suggesting just an 11 percent rise at a PE of 19 and 17 percent at a PE of 20 from now to March 2022. The Main Market TOP 10 trades at a PE of 7.9 or 46 percent of the PE of that market, well off the potential of 20.
IC TOP10 stocks are likely to deliver the best returns up to March 2022 and ranked in order of potential gains, based on likely increase for each company, considering the earnings and PE ratios for the current fiscal year. Expected values will change as stock prices fluctuate and result in movements in and out of the lists weekly. Revisions to earnings per share are ongoing, based on receipt of new information.

IPOs coming in your future

Jamaica Stock Exchange investors should be seeing a new IPO coming to the market sometime in July, subject to regulatory approval, with Sygnus Real Estate Finance getting ready to blast out of the box reports reaching this publication indicate.
The company, which is said to be dedicated to investing in and funding real estate developments through a combination of debt capital as well as equity capital, has projects on its books already, with developments in St Ann, St Catherine and Kingston, which the principals expect to extract extra value by way of creative acquisition and disposal. The company strategy is to fund new developments through real estate notes secured by a charge over the properties.
The company, which will be separate from Sygnus Credit Investments, could benefit from funding from them and is expected to raise $3 to $4 billion in the region. The company is coming to the market at a time of unprecedented construction of buildings in the country. Reports reaching ICInsider.com indicate strong buying interests locally and from overseas in townhouses and detached units in the country’s hills, and many see Jamaican real estate as cheap.
Also coming around July is Jamaica Fibreglass Products that produces furniture and bedding, to raise approximately $230 million for expansion purposes and Spur Tree Spices may make it towards the end of the year to pull in around $250 million. The company says it has been manufacturing all in one seasoning and sauces since 2006 for the local and export markets.
There has also been chatter in the marketplace that Jamaican Teas may consider a spin-off of its manufacturing arm into a separately listed company.

Junior Market sets for record 4,230 points?

The Junior Market closed the week at 3,367.03 points with gains of near 28 percent for the overall market for the year to date and 66 percent from the 2020 low of 2,031.79 points on March 18 last year and now sits just 8 percent below the historical high for the market of 3,662.94 points back October 14, 2019.
The market was only above Friday’s close for one day in early January last year when the index closed at 3,378.20 points on January 3 and one day in June this year.
In the process, Lumber Depot gained 111 percent for the year, followed by Fosrich, 109 percent, Jamaican Teas 97 percent, Jetcon 96 percent, Stationery and Office Supplies, 76 percent, Express Catering 71 percent, Main Event 66 percent, Lasco Manufacturing and Caribbean Cream 41 percent.
The growth for the year to date would result in a 60 percent increase for the full year if the current trend continues and would see the market index rising to a record high of 4,230 points to sit just around the next area of resistance. That level would equate with an average PE of 16 times 2021 earnings and suggest that the current rally is likely to continue at a measured pace, similar to the rise from the 2020 low point.
