Main market retreats from robust early gains

Stocks trading climbed sharply on Friday with an exchange of 118 percent more shares valued 268 percent more than in Thursday trading on the Jamaica Stock Exchange Main Market. The All Jamaican Composite Index just managed to squeeze out a gain of 87.75 points to close at 451,713.66 after it traded up close to 6,000 points to a high of 457,408.33 within an hour of the market’s opening.  

JSE All Jamaica Composite Index heading for the top of the upward sloping channel top at 460,000 points and could face resistance there.

The JSE Main Index rose 581.22 points to settle at 428,015.27 and The JSE Financial Index gained 0.24 points to end at 107.13.
Trading ended with 49 securities compared to 47 on Thursday and ended with prices of 21 stocks rising, 17 declining and 11 remaining unchanged. The PE Ratio averages 16.5 based on ICInsider.com’s forecast of 2021-22 earnings.
The market closed with 31,695,926 shares trading for $306,013,533 compared to 14,522,547 units at $83,441,774 on Thursday. Wigton Windfarm led trading with 41.6 percent of total volume for 13.18 million shares, followed by Supreme Ventures with 31.7 percent for 10.04 million units and JMMB Group 7.50% with 5.4 percent for 1.70 million units changing hands.
Trading averaged 646,856 units at $6,245,174, compared to an average of 308,990 shares at $1,775,357 on Thursday. Trading month to date averages 324,542 units at $3,521,674, in contrast to 289,678 units at $3,227,079 on Thursday. Trading in April averaged 234,200 units at $1,772,561.

At the close, Barita Investments dropped $3.05 to $83 with 33,408 shares changing hands. Berger Paints advanced $1.35 to close at a 52 weeks’ high of $15 after exchanging 30,727 stock units, Caribbean Cement slid $4.98 to $81.02 with 96,636 shares crossing the exchange. Eppley Caribbean Property Fund shed 98 cents to close at $44 trading 11 units, First Rock Capital fell 40 cents to $16.50 in exchanging 50,337 shares, Grace Kennedy slipped 19 cents to close at $88.66 in switching ownership of 161,912 stocks. Jamaica Broilers ended $1 lower at $34.50 in exchanging 30,864 units, Jamaica Stock Exchange gained 24 cents to close at $17.99 with 11,600 stock units crossing the market, JMMB Group rose $1.05 to $33.05 in trading 33,966 units, Kingston Wharves advanced $1 to end at $48 in an exchange of 3,152 stocks, NCB Financial declined $1.50 to $138.50 after transferring 39,781 units, 138 Student Living gained 30 cents to end at $5.30 in exchanging 2,129 stocks. PanJam Investment rose $1 to close at $66.50 in trading 594,688 units, Proven Investments rose 94 cents to $37.95 in trading 26,800 shares, Sagicor Group closed 54 cents higher at $50.55 in an exchange of 35,406 stocks. Salada Foods rose 86 cents to $7.66 in switching ownership of 116,542 stock units, Scotia Group shed 50 cents to end at $41 in trading 20,188 units, Supreme Ventures picked up 50 cents to close at $19.50 with the swapping of 10,037,859 shares, Victoria Mutual Investments declined 78 cents to $6.30 in trading 154,338 stock units and Wisynco Group gained 30 cents to close at $15.90, with 240,532 shares crossing the exchange.
In the preference segment, Eppley 8.25% shed 74 cents to close at $6.15 with 1,800 stock units changing hands, JMMB Group 7.25% rose 19 cents to $1.46 in transferring 3,019 stocks and JMMB Group 7.15% – 2028 lost 18 cents to finish at $2.82 trading 20,000 shares.

Increased trading in Trinidad

Market activity ended on Friday, with the market closing mixed with 11 percent more shares with 46 percent greater value trading than on Wednesday, with the market reopening for trading after closing on Thursday for a public holiday, resulting in declining stocks edging out those rising at on the Trinidad and Tobago Stock Exchange.
A total of 15 securities traded, down from 20 on Wednesday, with five rising, six declining and 4 remaining unchanged. The Composite Index added 2.35 points to settle at 1,343.22, the All T&T Index slipped 1.48 points to 1,819.82 and the Cross-Listed Index rose 0.90 points to close at 116.77.
At the close, 522,888 shares traded, for $8,105,696 versus 469,851 units at $5,564,562 on Wednesday.
An average of 34,859 units traded at 8,105,696 compared to 23,493 at $278,228 on Wednesday. Trading month to date, averaged 17,263 units traded at $314,929 compared to 15,201 units at $288,509. The average trade for April amounted to 11,472 units at $184,959.

JSE Main market rises to 14 months high

Rising stocks pushed the market indices higher on Thursday to end with the All Jamaican Composite Index at the highest level since the middle of March last year as the market continues to move higher in recovering the big losses in 2020.  At the close, the volume traded rose 18 percent, but the value dropped 46 percent on Wednesday levels on the Jamaica Stock Exchange Main Market.
The All Jamaican Composite Index advanced 1,110.77 points to 451,625.91, the Main Index rose 732.14 points to 427,434.05, and the JSE Financial Index inched 0.15 points up to settle at 106.89.
Trading ended with 47 securities compared to 53 on Wednesday and closed with prices of 17 stocks rising, 23 declining and seven remaining unchanged.
The PE Ratio averages 16.4 based on ICInsider.com forecast of 2021-22 earnings.

The market closed with 14,522,547 shares trading for $83,441,774 compared to 12,295,253 units at $154,483,246 on Wednesday. Sagicor Select Financial Fund led trading with 34.2 percent of total volume for an exchange of 4.97 million shares, followed by Wigton Windfarm with 17.9 percent for 2.60 million units, Transjamaican Highway with 9.1 percent for 1.33 million units and Mayberry Investments with 8.3 percent for 1.23 million units changing hands.

AJI past 450,000, first since March 2020

The All Jamaican Composite Index closed above the 450,000 points level for the first time since March 13 last year when it advanced 780.41 points to close at 450,515.14, on Wednesday on the Jamaica Stock Exchange, with an exchange of 119 percent more shares valued 339 percent higher than in trading on Tuesday.
The JSE Main Index gained 314.36 points to 426,701.91 and the JSE Financial Index lost 0.05 points to settle at 106.74.
A total of 53 securities traded compared to 54 on Tuesday, with 21 stocks rising, 23 declining and nine remaining unchanged. The PE Ratio, based on ICInsider.com’s forecast of 2021-22 earnings, averages 16.4.
The market closed with 12,295,253 shares trading for $154,483,246 compared to 5,625,284 units at $35,183,198 on Tuesday. Falling stocks dominate TTSE

Market activity ended on Wednesday, with the market rising after 112 percent more shares traded than on Tuesday, resulting in more stocks falling than rising at the close of trading on the Trinidad and Tobago Stock Exchange, but closing bids and offers suggest that the rallying could continue into Thursday.
A total of 20 securities traded, up from 12 on Tuesday, with three rising, six declining and 11 remaining unchanged. The Composite Index added 0.98 points to settle at 1,340.87, the All T&T Index advanced 9.58 points to 1,821.30 and the Cross-Listed Index fell 1.15 points to close at 115.87.
At the close, 469,851 shares traded, for $5,564,562 versus 222,110 units at $6,574,479 on Tuesday.
An average of 23,493 shares traded at $278,228 compared to 18,509 at $547,873 on Tuesday. Trading month to date, averaged 15,201 units traded at $288,509 compared to  13,665 units at $290,413. The average trade for April amounted to 11,472 units at $184,959.

Low trading activity hits JSE Main Market

In stock market activity on Tuesday, investors traded 44 percent fewer shares valued 49 percent less than on Monday with just 5,625,284 shares trading for a mere $35,183,198 compared to 10,081,649 units at $68,340,342 on Monday on the Jamaica Stock Exchange Main Market.
Trading activity led to a nice rise in the All Jamaican Composite Index that climbed 2,013.60 points to settle at 449,734.73. The Main Index gained 1,725.03 points to 426,387.55 and The JSE Financial Index inched 0.10 points higher to 106.79.
At the close, 54 securities traded compared to 51 on Monday, with prices of 23 rising, 19 declining and 12 remaining unchanged. The PE Ratio, based on ICInsider.com’s forecast of 2021-22 earnings, averages 16.3.
The market closed Sagicor Select Financial Fund led trading with 28.3 percent of total volume for an exchange of 1.59 million shares, followed by Wigton Windfarm with 11.5 percent for 646,723 units and Transjamaican Highway with 11.3 percent for 636,420 units.

Market indices rise on TTSE again

Market activity ended with the market rising on Tuesday after investors traded 28 percent fewer shares but with a 44 percent jump in value than on Monday, resulting in a five to one ratio that falling stocks had over rising ones at the close of trading on the Trinidad and Tobago Stock Exchange.

Guardian Holdings hit a 52 weeks’ high of $30 on Tuesday.

Twelve securities traded compared to 19 on Monday, with one stock rising, five declining and six remaining unchanged. Massy Holdings did not trade on Tuesday but seems the next stock to enjoy a big bounce, with the stock closing with the bid at $68 to buy 7,352 shares compared to the last sale price of $65.  the stock is on offer at $74.75 with just 700 units.
The Composite Index climbed 1.52 points to settle at 1,339.89, the All T&T Index advanced 5.25 points to settle at 1,811.72 and The Cross-Listed Index shed 0.35 points to settle at 117.02.
At the close of the market, 222,110 shares traded for $6,574,479 versus 310,179 units at $4,581,004 on Monday.
An average of 18,509 units traded at $547,873 compared to 16,325 at $241,105 on Monday. An average of 13,665 units traded at $290,413 for the month to date versus 13,060 units at $258,230. The average trade for April amounted to 11,472 units at $184,959.

Main market stocks start the week down

Stocks raced 2.949 points shortly after opening, with All Jamaican Composite Index hitting 452,005.57 on Monday, but some amount of selling, later on, pushed the market down for the day, with the declining stocks outnumbering those rising, after 28 percent less funds went after stocks than on Friday on the Jamaica Stock Exchange Main Market.
At the close, the All Jamaican Composite Index fell 1,335.19 points to 447,721.13, the Main Index dropped 4,869.78 points to 424,662.52 and the JSE Financial Index shed 1.85 points to settle at 106.69.
Trading ended with 51 securities compared to 47 on Friday and closed with 14 stocks rising, 23 declining and 14 remaining unchanged. The PE Ratio, based on ICInsider.com forecast of 2021-22 earnings, averages 16.2.

Pan Jam Investment shed 50 cents and ended at $64 with 12,386 shares changing hands, Proven Investments lost 58 cents in closing at $38.20 in transferring 36,735 units, Pulse Investments rose 24 cents to close at $4.65 with 341,070 shares crossing the market, Sagicor Select Manufacturing & Distribution Fund advanced 8 cents to close at a 52 weeks’ high of $1 while exchanging 221,761 units. Salada Foods dipped 30 cents to close at $9, trading 144,058 stock units, Scotia Group fell $1.29 to $40.51 in exchanging 61,843 shares, Seprod declined $4 to close at $71 after 17,111 units crossed the exchange. Supreme Ventures shed 49 cents to settle at $17.31 after an exchange of 136,667 stock units, Sygnus Credit Investments gained 29 cents to end at $14.89 with 34,847 units changing hands.
In the preference segment, Eppley 8.75% preference share shed 99 cents at $6.51 with the swapping of 585 stocks and Eppley 7.5% preference shares advanced $1.40 to a 52 weeks’ high of $10.75 in an exchange of 50 units.

Stocks bounce in Port of Spain

The overall volume of stocks trading on Monday was marginally higher than on Friday, but it carried a 50 percent increase in the value of stocks trading on the Trinidad and Tobago Stock Exchange and leading to more stocks rising than declining and pushing the market indices a bit higher at the close.

The Composite Index rose 9.60 points to 1,338.37, the All T&T Index advanced 10.49 points to 1,806.47 and the Cross-Listed Index gained 1.21 points to end at 117.37.
At the close, 310,179 shares traded for $4,581,004 compared to 297,943 units at $9,108,996 on Friday.
An average of 16,325 units traded at $241,105, down from 17,526 at $535,823 on Friday. An average of 13,060 units traded at $258,230 for the month to date versus 12,254 units at $262,455. Trading in April averaged 11,472 units at $184,959.
The Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator shows two stocks ended with bids higher than their last selling prices and one with lower offers.
At the close, Agostini’s remained at $24.40 in exchanging 451 shares, Ansa McAL gained 15 cents to $56.75, with 7,602 stock units changing hands, Ansa Merchant Bank added $1 to close at a 52-weeks’ high of $41 after 13,839 shares crossed the market. Clico Investment Fund lost 1 cent to close at $25.49 in transferring 4,545 stock units, Endeavour Holdings shed 25 cents to finish at a 52-weeks low of $8.50 with 1,180 units changing hands, First Citizens Bank added 20 cents to end at $46.80 in trading 9,094 shares. FirstCaribbean International Bank picked up 1 cent to close at $6.26 after an exchange of 800 stocks, Grace Kennedy closed at $5 with a transfer of 88,407 stock units, Guardian Holdings remained at $29 in switching ownership of 36,230 units. JMMB Group gained 1 cent to finish at $1.81 after trading 50,054 shares, Massy Holdings stayed at $65 in switching ownership of 785 units, National Flour Mills shed 7 cents to close at $2.32 in trading 54,076 shares. NCB Financial Group rose 20 cents to $8.20 with an exchange of 20,000 units, Point Lisas remained at $2.95 with 5,000 units crossing the market, Republic Financial Holdings gained 9 cents to $132.61 with a transfer of 4,057 stock units. Scotiabank remained at $54.70 after 5,796 stocks crossed the market, Trinidad Cement shed 10 cents to close at $3.30 in exchanging 100 units, Unilever Caribbean remained at $16.33 with the swapping of 2,000 stock units and West Indian Tobacco lost 1 cent to end at $32.97 trading 6,163 shares.

Guardian climbs to a new high of $1,135

Guardian Holdings made another big impression on the JSE Main Index for the second day running, with the index spiking more than 6,700 points at the close compared to less than 2,000 points for the  All Jamaican Composite Index at the close on Friday of the Jamaica Stock Exchange Main Market.
At the close, the All Jamaican Composite Index rose 1,717.09 points to 449,056.32, the Main Index advanced 6,789.24 points to 429,532.30 and the JSE Financial Index gained 2.78 points to settle at 108.54.
Trading ended with 47 securities compared to 51 on Thursday and closed with prices of 20 stocks rising, 18 declining and nine remaining unchanged. The PE Ratio, based on ICInsider.com forecast of 2021-22 earnings, averages 16.2.
Trading accounted for 9,057,061 shares for $95,375,441 compared to 14,011,500 units at $108,072,314 on Thursday. Wigton Windfarm led trading with 23.6 percent of total volume for 2.14 million shares, followed by Sagicor Select Financial Fund with 12.6 percent for 1.14 million units and Radio Jamaica 10.6 percent with 959,460 units.
Trading averaged 192,703 units at $2,029,265, compared to 274,735 shares at $2,119,065 on Thursday. Month to date trading averages 357,658 units at $4,517,815, in contrast to 396,230 units at $5,099,715 on Thursday. April averaged 234,200 units at $1,772,561.

Caribbean Cement added 20 cents to close at $90.20 switching ownership of 45,139 shares, Carreras gained 25 cents to end at $9.84 in switching ownership of 334,907 stocks, Eppley Caribbean Property Fund declined $4.79 to close at $40.01 in exchanging 3,277 units, First Rock Capital shed $1.04 to end at $15.96 in switching ownership of 210,759 stocks, Guardian Holdings climbed $27 to end at $900 with an exchange of 3,768 stock units after the price shot up to a high of $1,134.90, Jamaica Broilers declined $2.98 in closing at $30.02 in transferring 38,063 shares, Jamaica Producers shed $3.50 to finish at $27.50 with the swapping of 114,576 units. Key Insurance gained 68 cents ending at $6.50 with 132,886 shares changing hands. Kingston Wharves gained 30 cents to settle at $43.90 after exchanging 31,373 stocks, NCB Financial Group rose $1 in closing at $140 after clearing the market with 40,955 shares, 138 Student Living advanced $1.09 to close at $5.29 with 50 stocks clearing the market, Palace Amusement climbed $8 to $908 in trading 59 stock units, PanJam Investment closed $1 higher at $64.50 after clearing the market with 11,459 shares. Proven Investments rose $1.01 to $38.78 with the swapping of 112,652 units, Sagicor Real Estate Fund slipped 25 cents to close at $7.95 with the transfer of 3,366 stocks, Salada Foods lost 40 cents in closing at $9.30 in trading 145,990 units, Seprod dropped $3 to finish at $75 with 105,935 shares changing hands, Supreme Ventures rose 56 cents to end at $17.80 in switching ownership of 98,891 stock units and Sygnus Credit Investments lost 39 cents ending at $14.60 in trading 39,721 units.
