138 Student Living traded 12.5 million shares valued at $66.25 million Friday on the Jamaica Stock Exchange with the stock ending at an all-time high of $5.30 after rising by 20 cents in a trading session that saw over 300 points being cut from the main market indices.
The number of securities changing hands remained high with 44 changing hands on Friday, in all market segments. At the close, 16 securities in the combined markets gained and 13 declined.
Five stocks closed at 52 weeks’ highs and two traded at intraday high as 17,493,274 units valued at $112,767,164 changed hands in all markets. The junior market accounted for 1,058,983 units changed hands, valued at $6,002,466.
The JSE Market Index fell by 318.51 points to 156,706.56 the all Jamaica Composite Index closed with a loss of 355.96 points to end at 174,084.71 and the JSE combined index declined 246.21 points to close at 168,047.15.
IC bid-offer Indicator| At the end of trading, in the main and junior markets, the Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator declined from an elevated level on Thursday with the current reading of only 8 stocks with bids higher than their last selling prices and 2 with lower offers.
In trading, Barita Investments traded 10,000 shares and lost $1.97 to close at $4.03, Berger Paints closed at $3.60 as 107,349 units traded, Cable and Wireless ended with 205,751 units changing hands to close with a gain of 2 cents at $1.51, Caribbean Cement fell $2.50 to close at $22, with 223,713 shares changing hands. Carreras rose $3.05 in trading 15,369 shares at $63.05, for a new 52 weeks’ high, Ciboney lost 2 cents in trading 502,380 shares at 24 cents, Gleaner traded 15,000 units at a loss of 28 cents at $2.40, Grace Kennedy gained $3.50 and closed at $84, with 89,111 units changing hands. Jamaica Broilers closed at $13.50 with 260,019 shares changing hands. Jamaica Producers ended with 8,270 shares trading, to close at $31, Jamaica Stock Exchange rose 4 cents to close at $19.70 while trading 109,420 shares, JMMB Group traded 108,518 units to end with a loss of 1 cent at $11. Kingston Wharves traded 6,992 units to close at $11. Mayberry Investments traded 48,924 shares and lost 17 cents to close at $4.70. National Commercial Bank ended with a gain of $1.80 at $43 with 76,733 units changing hands, Pan Jamaican Investments closed at $96 with 4,382 shares trading. Radio Jamaica traded 405,020 shares but fell 60 cents to $4.20, Sagicor Group rose by $1.25 to close at $23.25 with 240,545 units changing hands, Scotia Group had 286,042 shares changing hands to close at $30.41, Supreme Ventures traded at an intraday 52 weeks’ high of $6 but ended at $5.50 with 983,022 units changing hands. Proven Investments ordinary share traded 113,047 units at 22 US cents, down by 0.99 US cents on Friday and Proven Investments preference share traded 104,100 units at $5.
JSE loses ground Monday morning
Trading on the Jamaica Stock Market started off slowly on Monday morning as was the case on Friday, with the first trade taking place well after opening. By 10:30 the main indices fell with 20 securities changing hands after 60 minutes of trading with a volume of 5,744,495 units as 6 stocks gained and 3 declined.
At 11 am, the all Jamaica Composite Index is dropped 595.63 points to 157,514.86, the JSE Market Index fell 532.98 points to 141,879.70 the JSE combined index erased 531.76 points to be at 148,343.69 and the junior market index lost 3.20 points to 1,611.28.
Interesting trades, with 60 minutes having elapsed, are Derrimon Trading with 5,375,692 units changing hands at $3.50 and Jamaica Producers with 43,347 units trading as the price gained 50 cents to $32.
JSE recovers in mid-morning
In early trading on the Jamaica Stock Exchange market indices are up with the all Jamaica Composite Index rising 1,053.80 points to 156,186.37 at 11 am on Monday morning. The JSE Market Index increased by 942.95 points to 140,690.96, the JSE combined index rose 908.14 points to be at 147,456.72 and the junior market index gained 5.08 points to 1,640.72.
Trading volumes have been low with 90 minutes of the market opening. Cable & Wireless traded the most with 464,269 units and last traded at $1.52, C2W Music with 217,500 at 39 cents. Jamaica Producers gained $3.50 with 6,174 to be at $30.
The number of securities trading climbed sharply to 32 securities changing hands with a volume of 1,647,597 units as 12 stocks gained and 7 declined after 90 minutes of trading.
Dolphin trades 230M shares
The Jamaica stock market is off to a spirited start on Wednesday which saw Sagicor Investments crossing 227.5 million Dolphin Cove shares and buying another 2.1 million from other brokers. The main market indices are down and the junior of index is up with a number of new 52 weeks’ high being achieved.
Notable trades are, Caribbean Cream with 10,000 units at a new high of $5 after adding 40 cents, Dolphin Cove with 229,610,218 units at a new high of $16.03 with a rise of $2.33, Cable & Wireless with 690,670 units changing hands up to $2, but last traded at $1.91, Jamaica Broilers with 914,200 shares changing hands at $8.76. Jamaica Producers traded 1,156,535 units at $22.51, down by $1.50, Sagicor Group has seen 508,350 shares changing hands at $16.58, Sagicor Real Estate X Fund had 1,043,832 units at $9.81 and Seprod with 304,359 shares rising $1.85 to $17.80.
The number of securities trading climbed sharply to 28 securities changing hands with a volume of 234,954,186 units as 14 stocks gained and 7 declined after 75 minutes of trading.
The All Jamaican Composite index fell 135.44 points to 154,934.62, the JSE Market Index declined 121.19 points to 139,570.88 the JSE combined index rose 254.07 points to be at 146,679.37 and the junior market index climbed 41.27 points to 1,669.02.
Jamaica Producers’ profit jumps
Revenues for the year to September declined from $6.44 billion to $6.15 billion. Net profit nine months to September amounts to $807 million, an increase of 194 percent over $275 for the year to September 2014. The year to date profit includes gain on sales of property of $319 million recorded in the June quarter.
Gross profit inched up to $440 million in the third quarter from $421 million in 2014 and for the nine months, from $1.4 billion to $1.45 billion. Share of profit in associated companies and joint ventures contributed $217 million for the 2015 quarter up from only $61 million in 2014 and for the nine months to $491 million versus $228 million.
Cash flow from operations amounts to $186 million compared to $267 million in 2014, leading to cash and equivalent of $471 million at the end of the 2015 period. Administrative and other cost rose moderately by $12 million for the quarter to $485 million and $43 million for the nine months to $1.45 billion. Jamaica Producer is headquartered in Jamaica, is listed on the country’s stock exchange, last traded at $23.80 with earnings per share including gains on property of $4.17 for the nine months to September this year and $1.02 for the quarter, for the full year earnings from ongoing operations should end around $3 per share, the stock now trades at around 8 times 2015 earnings from ongoing operations. The main activities of the company and its subsidiaries are juice and food manufacturing, the cultivation, marketing and distribution of fresh produce, logistics, land management and the holding of investments.
Total equity capital amounts to $6.5 billion, borrowed funds amount to $2.1 billion, while current assets stood at $2.49 billion and current liabilities at $1.76 billion.
