JSE closes down on Monday

TheJSE Market Index lost 299.63 points to 97,788.91, theJSE All Jamaican Composite index fell 334.90 points to close at 108,240.66 and the JSE combined index declined 285.04 points to end at 100,463.91.

Stocks trading include, Cable & Wireless had 380,130 units trading and closed at 43 cents, Carreras with 4,067,804 shares at mostly $50, to shed $1 from Friday’s close. Desnoes & Geddes gained 5 cents while trading 37,000 units to close at $7.55, Hardware & Lumber traded 111,500 shares at $18, Jamaica Broilers with 218,900 shares at $5.50, JMMB Group 85,992 shares after slipping 30 cents to $7.50, the Jamaica Stock Exchange traded 16,000 shares to close at $5. The directors of the JSE met during the day and declared a dividend of 53 cents per shares to be paid in July. Mayberry Investments ended with 267,075 units at $3, National Commercial Bank closed with 113,100 units trading at $29. At the close NCB had 17 offers to sell 818,742 shares at $30 each and 4 bids amounting to 704,000 units to buy between $29.02 and $28, thereafter, meaningful bids are at $26.50. Pan Jamaican Investment had just 1,285 units trading at a new 52 weeks’ high of $62, after gaining $1.45, Scotia Group had 612,697 shares changing hands to close at $25.51 and Jamaica Money Market Brokers 7.50% preference share traded 561,800 units and ended at $2.30.

Market activity saw, Cable & Wireless ending with 1,359,285 shares to close at 48 cents, after losing 2 cents but the stock traded as low as 45 cents after the company reported a huge $9 billion loss including an exceptional charge of $7 billion, after trading closed on Monday. Caribbean Cement had 70,900 shares trading at $5.10, to record a gain of 10 cents. Carreras traded of $51.50 and lost 50 cents but with just 6,272 shares, Desnoes & Geddes had 38,161 units changing hands at $7.50, for a loss of 5 cents, Hardware & Lumber traded 72,196 shares between a new intra-day high of $19 and the closing price of $18, Jamaica Broilers traded 206,666 units to close at $5.25 with a 30 cents loss. Prices up prices down index gains

Hardware & Lumber closed at a new 52 weeks’ high of $18, Jamaica Stocks Exchange closed at an all-time high of $4 and Scotia Investments also closed at a new high of $30 after jumping $3.70 but with limited volume and Palace Amusement traded at $60 for a new 52 weeks’ low.
TheJSE Market Index gained 451.19 points to 98,766.37, theJSE All Jamaican Composite index rose 504.32 points to close at 109,333.21 and the JSE combined index put on 439.21 points to end at 101,019.67.
IC bid-offer Indicator| At the end of trading, in the main and junior markets, the Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator continues to reflect a market that has a upward bias with 11 stocks with bids higher than their last selling prices and just 2 with offers that were lower.
Barita Investments traded 134,024 shares at $2.50 but closed with the bid at $2.55 to buy 11,765 shares, Carreras traded 160,324 shares with the price rising to $50 from $49 on Thursday after the company announced a $2 dividend. The stock traded as high as $51.06 for an intraday 52 weeks’ high. Caribbean Cement slipped 40 cents to close at $4.60 with 12,000 units changing hands. Desnoes & Geddes had 62,181 shares trading, to close 12 cents lower at $7.38, Grace Kennedy with 20,682 units changing hands, closed with a loss of 50 cents at $63. Jamaica Broilers shared 1,284,333 units at 20 cents higher, than on Thursday, at $5.50, Jamaica Stock Exchange had 1 million units changing hands in one trade, to close at $4, the stock closed without an offer. JMMB Group enjoyed trading in 171,384 shares to end at $9, Mayberry Investments had 37,164 units changing hands between $3.16 and the ending price, of $3. National Commercial Bank closed at $29.57 after losing 53 cents, Palace Amusement traded 566 shares and fell by $20 to $60, Sagicor Group had another heavy day of trading with 5,359,993 units changing hands and Scotia Group traded 14,391 units at $25.05 for a 45 cents decline.
In the preference sector, Jamaica Money Market Brokers 7.50% preference share traded 429,000 units at $2.30, Jamaica Money Market Brokers 8.75% preference shares 370,000 units at $3.02.

Caribbean Cement traded 50,000 to close at $4.35 but traded as high as $4.80, Grace Kennedy gained 25 cents to close at $62.75 with 7,253 units trading, Hardware & Lumber traded only 3,000 units at $10.25 to $12, Jamaica Broilers had 27,400 trading as high $5.74 but closed unchanged at $5.50, JMMB Group has 955,266 units trading at $9 and gained 11 cents, Mayberry Investments traded 109,856 units to close at $2.85 with a 15 cents loss but traded previously at $3.National Commercial Bank had 100,819 shares trading at $30, Radio Jamaica traded 100,000 shares is at $2.60, Sagicor Group traded 466,995 shares with the price climbing 15 cents to $12.15. Scotia Group had 141,655 shares changing hands at $25.50 by putting on 18 cents, Proven Investments fell to 18.50 US cents with 78,150 units trading and Jamaica Money Market Brokers 7.50% preference shares ended with 728,100 units at $2.30 as the price slipped 10 cents.
At the close of the market Sagicor Real Estate Fund had a bid at $8.30 compared with the last sale price of $8, but only 100 units were on the bid and only one offer was posted at $10. Investors are responding to reported strong increase in profit flowing from primarily form the profit of the hotel acquired in 2014, but they may not be taking into consideration the seasonal flows of revenues and profit in the industry that see strong inflows in the winter months and lower amounts in the other months.

The rally started last year fuelled by falling money market rates with Treasury bill rate falling from over 9 percent to below 7 percent. The current rally is be fuelled by rising profits from the majority of companies reporting first quarter results.
The JSE Market Index lost 507.33 points to 98,992.10, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index fell 567.23 points to close at 109,396.05 and the JSE combined index declined 237.32 points to close at 101,419.02.

Jamaica Stock Exchange contributed 244,616 shares, the price jumped 60 cents or 21 percent in response to the company’s huge jump in their first quarter results showing profit of $87 million or 62 cents and ended at $3.50. Trading was halted for an hour after the price exceeded 15 percent. JMMB Group ended with 27,855 shares changing hands to close up by 10 cents at $9.60, Mayberry Investments closed with 12,289 shares trading at $3,after adding 12 cents, National Commercial Bank finished trading with 468,084 units unchanged at $30.50. Pan Jamaican Investment ended trading with 14,769 units 12 cents higher, at $58.25, Sagicor Group closed with 191,168 shares trading 15 cents lower at $12. Sagicor Real Estate Fund gained 68 cents with 9,427 shares trading, to end at $7.28, following first quarter report showing a big jump in profit to $570 million, from $242 million, in 2014, as the acquisition of a hotel in Montego Bay pumped up revenues and profit in the quarter, in the best period for income in the hotel sector. Salada Foods gained 25 cents with just 2,672 shares trading at $9.25, Scotia Investments ended shedding 25 cents while trading 2,150 shares to end at $24.75, Seprod ended with 120,515shares trading at $18.25 and Proven Investments had 5,000 shares trading to close at an all-time high of 21.25 US cents.

Barita Investments traded 6.7 million units valued at $14.37 million with 4 million units being a crossed by Barita investments and Mayberry Investments picking just about all of the rest.
Main Market| The JSE Market Index gained 1,258.19 points to 96,752.04, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index rose 1,406.71 points to close at 106,891.56 and the JSE combined index put on 1,082.65 points to close at 98,682.46. The All Jamaica Index is now at the highest level since November 10, 2011.

18 gains 10 new highs – Tuesday

Hardware and Lumber one of the stocks after an hour freeze in the trade went through with a gain of 29.70 percent but Radio Jamaica price of $3 that the stock had attempted trading at, was well over the 30 percent allowed and was cancelled. Ciboney price gained more than thirty percent from the last price but the bid on the previous day was such that the trade could take place unimpeded as the benchmark for the 15 percent was the bid price in the case. The market closed with the prices of 18 stocks rising, 5 declining, with 30 securities changing hands, ending in 7,028,882 units trading, valued at $46,086,343, in all market segments.
Main Market| The JSE Market Index gained just 11.21 points to 95,493.85, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index rose 12.53 points to close at 105,484.85 and the JSE combined index gained 181.45 points to close at 97,599.81.

Ciboney finished with 500,000 units and put on 2 cents to close at 9 cents, Desnoes & Geddes finished trading with 500 shares and gained of 2 cents to end at a new 52 weeks’ high of $6.51. Grace Kennedy concluded trading with just 10,193 units, 11 cents higher at $64.12, Hardware & Lumber had trading of 4,000 shares, the price climbed $2.65 to end at $10.15, Jamaica Broilers contributed 176,408 shares but the price gained by 9 cents to $5, JMMB Group finished trading with 1,026,000 units to close at $8.30, for a new 52 weeks’ high. Mayberry Investments had dealing in 120,581 units with a gain on 1 cent to end at a new 52 weeks’ high of $2.80, National Commercial Bank contributed 275,391 shares to trading and ended higher by 51 cents at $30.50, Pan Jamaican Investment ended with 169,314 units trading, 51 cents higher at $57.51. Sagicor Group closed with 160,357 shares traded with a gain of 20 cents to $12.20, a new 52 weeks’ high. Scotia Group finished with 30,305 shares as the price ended at $25, Seprod finished trading with 64,600 units to close at $18.50, Supreme Ventures concluded trading with 755,156 shares as the rice rose 39 cents to end at $3.90, a new 52 weeks’ high. Proven Investments had trading in 25,994 units with the price falling .001 us cents to end at 20.99 us cents, Jamaica Money Market Brokers 8.75% preference share finished trading with 180,097 units with a decline of 20 cents to $3 and Proven Investments 8% preference share closed with 64,240 units as the price slipped 5 cents to $5.

JSE jumps Thursday up 11% for April

The strong market activity on Thursday, resulted in the prices of 23 stocks rising, 5 declining as 34 securities changed hands, ending in 7,695,548 units trading, valued at $109,643,238, in all market segments. The JSE Market Index gained 1,987.22 points to 93,264.43, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index jumped 2,221.80 points to close at 102,992.25 and the JSE combined index gained 2,133.14 points to close at 95,042.74. At one point during trading, the market recorded more than 3,000 points gain on the all Jamaica Composite index.
IC bid-offer Indicator| At the end of trading, in the main and junior markets, the Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator shows 13 stocks with bids higher than their last selling prices and only 2 with offers that were lower. This out turn indicates another strong day ahead for price movements.
The main stocks trading| Caribbean Cement traded only 100 shares, gained 55 cents to end at $3.85, but closed with the bid at $3.88, Carreras ended trading with 31,886 shares to close at a new 52 weeks’ high of $47.08, but ended with a bid at $47.49, followed by Desnoes & Geddes with only 500 units in closing at a new 52 weeks’ high of $6.02. Hardware & Lumber had only 480 units changing hands, gained 45 cents to end at $7.50, Jamaica Broilers closed with 24,500 shares at $4.75, after falling by 35 cents, Jamaica Producers lost 25 cents with 60,000 shares to end at $17.25. JMMB Group gained 50 cents and closed at a new 52 weeks’ high of $8 with 13,250 shares changing hands, Kingston Wharves traded 16,105 units with the price declining 56 cents to $5.95. Mayberry Investments had 711,200 units changing hands a new 52 weeks’ high of $2.60, National Commercial Bank traded 3,066,787 shares between $29.50 and the closing price and closed with a gain of $1.58 at a new 52 weeks’ high of $30.08. Pan Jamaican Investment price fell $3 with only 885 units trading at $57, Sagicor Group had 290,390 shares and closed 21 cents higher for a new 52 weeks’ high of $11.01. Scotia Group traded 58,380 shares to gain 25 cents and end at a new 52 weeks’ high of $23.25, Scotia Investments traded just 910 units to gain $2.90 and closed at $27, Seprod had only 630 units trading, to end at $18.50 and Supreme Ventures traded 515,400 units to close at $3.50, but traded as high as $3.75, for a new 52 weeks intraday high.
