JSE ends May with mild losses

Grace Kennedy traded at a new closing high of $115 on Tuesday.

The Jamaica Stock Exchange main market ended with Grace Kennedy ending trading at a 52 weeks’ closing high of $115 and also did Jamaica Producers. A total of 34 securities changed hands, accounting for 11,149,488 units valued at just $124,468,897, in all market segments. The junior market accounted for 2,620,512 shares valued at $7,902,418 of the overall trades.
Investors pushed the price of 15 stocks in the overall market up, 13 down, including 5 stocks rising and 5 declining, from the junior market. One stock in the junior closed at a 52 weeks’ high and two in the main market hit new 52 weeks’ highs at the close of trading.
The JSE Market Index fell 171.16 points to end at 156,561.77. The all Jamaica Composite Index lost 191.42 points to close at 173,925.02 and the JSE combined index declined 80.66 points, to close at 167,135.71.

IC bid-offer Indicator| At the end of trading, in the main and junior markets, the Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator reading showed 19 stocks with bids higher than their last selling prices and 9 with lower offers.
At the end of market activities, Barita Investments lost 39 cents and ended with 11,500 units trading at $3.10, Cable & Wireless rose 10 cents and closed at $1.48 after trading 731,284 units, Caribbean Cement traded 11,678 shares, fell $3 and closed at $23. Carreras had just 391 units trading, to close with a loss of 99 cents at $64.01, Ciboney Group rose 2 cents with 22,000 units trading to end at 23 cents. The price of 1834 Investments rose 3 cents to end at $1.14, as 5,000 units changed hands. Grace Kennedy climbed $4 in trading 2,710 units, to end at a 52 weeks’ closing high of $115, Jamaica Producers traded 1,425 shares and added 10 cents to close at a 52 weeks’ high of $40.10, JMMB Group traded 4,057,219 units after losing 39 cents, to close at $9.60. Sagicor Real Estate Fund traded 32,891 shares at $10.12, Scotia Group fell $1.55 to close at $31, as 12,804 units changed hands. Seprod gained 45 cents to close at $16.95 as 53,450 shares changed hands. Sterling Investments traded 39,150 units with a loss of 45 cents at $11.50, Supreme Ventures rose 5 cents in trading 33,532 units to close at $4.70 and Jamaica Money Market Brokers 7.50% preference share traded 137,702 units at $2.10.

Grace Kennedy closed at a new 1 year high

The Jamaica Stock Exchange main market ended with Grace Kennedy trading at a 52 weeks intraday high of $120 but ended at a 52 weeks’ closing high of $111. The last time the stock traded so high, was March 2015, but the stock is still priced below the all-time high of $123, reached in February of that 2015.
A total of 32 securities changed hands, accounting for 3,191,366 units valued at just $23,420,615, in all market segments. The junior market accounted for 829,940 shares valued at $2,963,453 of the overall trades.
Investors pushed the price of 13 stocks in the overall market up, 7 down, including 3 stocks rising and only 2 declining, from the junior market as two stocks in the main market hit new highs.
The JSE Market Index gained 861.29 points to end at 156,732.93. The all Jamaica Composite Index rose 963.24 points to close at 174,116.44 and the JSE combined index climbed 805.29 points, to close at 167,216.37.

Carreras had 10,090 units trading, to close at $65, Ciboney Group had 305,937 units trading at 21 cents, the price of 1834 Investments rose 1 cent to end at $1.11, as 12,161 units changed hands. Grace Kennedy climbed $1 in trading 24,384 units, to close at a 52 weeks’ high of $111, after trading at an intraday 52 weeks’ high of $120. Jamaica Broilers lost 40 cents in trading 19,082 units to end at $14.10. Jamaica Producers traded 2,460 shares at $40, Mayberry Investments rose by 50 cents with just 1,020 shares changing hands at $4, National Commercial Bank traded 22,803 shares, to close at $40.

Pan Jamaican Investment Trust went ex-split today with the bid at $24.24 at the close, to buy 18,000 units, but there was no stock on offer, Radio Jamaica closed trading with 86,158 shares at $1.35, Sagicor Group ended with 75,180 shares changing hands at $22.90. Sagicor Real Estate Fund traded 158,156 shares at $10.12, Scotia Group fell 15 cents to close at $32.55, as 27,141 units changed hands. Supreme Ventures lost 22 cents in trading 359,687 units to close at $4.65, Proven Investments added 3 cents in trading 286,857 shares at 19.99 US cents, JMMB Group 7.50% preference share had 92,900 units changing hands at $1.04 and Jamaica Money Market Brokers 7.50% preference share traded 490,000 units at $2.10 but of these stocks losing 1 cent.

The Jamaica Stock Exchange main market ended with moderate trading but had two stocks closing at 52 weeks’ highs with Grace Kennedy closing at $110 and Kingston Properties ended at $10. A total of 40 securities changed hands, accounting for 5,742,422 units valued at just $30,005,364, in all market segments. The junior market accounted for 1,336,391 shares valued at $9,501,843 of the overall trades.

The junior market saw Cargo Handlers trading at a new all-time high at the close. The junior market accounted for 2,139,183 shares valued at $12,635,596 of the total level traded.

Grace traded at a new 52 weeks’ high on the JSE Tuesday.

Trading volumes remained low on the Jamaica Stock Exchange on Tuesday as the main market lost much ground in trading after closing for the Labour Day holiday on Monday. The market closed with 34 securities changing hands, accounting for just 2,901,288 units valued at $53,144,793, in all market segments. The junior market accounted for 912,528 shares valued at $4,482,547 of the total level traded.
Investors pushed the price of 13 stocks in the overall market up, 13 down, including 4 stocks rising and 6 declining, from the junior market as two stocks in the main market hit new highs.
The JSE Market Index moved down by 1,629.32 points to end at 152,050.95. The all Jamaica Composite Index declined by 1,822.18 points to close at 168,891.44 and the JSE combined index dropped 1,945.68 points, to close at 162,532.10.

Jamaica Producers stock price pushed by proposed stock bonus

Jamaica Producers jumped $3 to $35 after trading at a new intraday high of $36.05 with 281,335 shares changing hands in response to the announcement by the company of a likely stock bonus issue for consideration at the upcoming annual general meeting. The Jamaica Stock Exchange closed with 43 securities changing hands, accounting for 8,944,638 units valued at $141,245,567, in all market segments. The junior market had only 1,770,629 shares valued at $9,957,555 traded.
Investors pushed the price of 14 stocks in the overall market up, 17 down, including 5 stocks rising and 6 declining, from the junior market.

The JSE Market Index jumped 172.33 points to end at 153,423.94. The all Jamaica Composite Index rose 192.72 points to close at 170,415.77 and the JSE combined index dropped 268.79 points, to close at 164,254.49.
IC bid-offer Indicator| At the end of trading, in the main and junior markets, the Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator reading showed 10 stocks with bids higher than their last selling prices and 5 with lower offers.
At the end of market activities, Berger Paints traded 20,000 units with the price rising by 3 cents to $4.28, Cable & Wireless lost 5 cents and closed at $1.42 after trading 1,292,404 units, Caribbean Cement traded 629,300 shares to close at $26 after rising $1. Carreras traded 20,000 units with the price falling 40 cents to close at $63.60, Grace Kennedy dropped $2 with 2,920 shares trading to close at $88. The price of 1834 Investments declined by 2 cents in trading 118,100 units to close at $1, Jamaica Broilers closed with a rise of 15 cents at $14.65 while trading 2,634 shares.

JMMB Group traded 439,275
shares at $9.90, for a 9 cents loss. Kingston Wharves traded 62,199 shares and fell 15 cents to $11.65, Margaritaville Turks traded 427,500 shares at 17.5 US cents after rising half a cent, National Commercial Bank traded 308,396 shares, to close with a loss of 25 cents at $39.75. Pan Jamaican Investment closed trading at $125 with 55,085 shares changing hands, Radio Jamaica traded 85,158 shares at $1.10, Sagicor Group ended with 2,464,160 shares changing hands, but gained 20 cents, to end at $23. Scotia Group closed at $30 while 293,780 units changed hands after dropping 50 cents, Supreme Ventures closed at $4.65 with 468,462 shares changing hands after rising 15 cents and JMMB Group 6% preference share ended with 185,730 units trading at $1.10 after rising 1 cent.

New records for 3 stocks – Monday

JPSCo trades at new high on Monday at $1,247.

Grace Kennedy, Pan Jamaican Investment and Jamaica Public Service 9.5% preference share shot to new 52 weeks high on the main market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange at the close of trading on Monday. The market closed with 37 securities changing hands, accounting for 23,413,479 units valued at $218,207,605, in all market segments. The junior market had only 632,321 units traded, valued at $2,290,950.
Investors pushed the price of 16 stocks in the overall market up, 11 down, including 5 stocks rising and 6 declining, from the junior market.
The JSE Market Index jumped 1,484.96 points to end at 153,251.61. The all Jamaica Composite Index shot up 1,660.74 points to close at 170,223.05 and the JSE combined index rose 1,336.47 points, to close at 164,523.28.

At the end of market activities, Cable & Wireless lost 2 cents and closed at $1.47 after trading 132,302 units, Ciboney traded 100,000 shares to close at 13 cents. Grace Kennedy shot up $4.49 with 14,300 shares trading to close at $90. Jamaica Broilers ended at $14.50 while trading 306,339 shares, Jamaica Producers fell 90 cents to $32 with 58,803 units changing hands on a day the company advised the stock exchange that the directors will be meeting to consider a stock bonus. Jamaica Stock Exchange had 35,549 shares trading at $21, JMMB Group traded 94,284 shares at $9.99, for a 14 cents gain. National Commercial Bank traded just 5,551 shares, to close with a gain of 25 cents at $40,

Pan Jamaican Investment jumped $5 to close trading at $125 with 26,773 shares changing hands, Radio Jamaica traded 67,645 shares at $1.10, Sagicor Group ended with 145,082 shares changing hands, but lost 20 cents, to end at $22.80. Scotia Group closed at $30.50 while only 3,000 units changed hands after gaining 49 cents, Supreme Ventures closed at $4.50 with 21,308,893 shares valued at $96,057,185 changing hands after declining by 97 cents. Proven Investments traded 25,980 shares at 17.50 US cents, Jamaica Money Market Brokers 7.5% preference share ended with 366,900 units trading at $2.14 and Jamaica Public Service 9.5% preference share climbed $46, in trading 81,662 units with a value of $101,832,514, to end at a record of $1,247.
