ICTOP10 picks remove dreaming

The ICTOP listing is meant to remove dreaming from investors’ arsenal of investment tools and place them on more solid grounds. The performance of Fosrich last week illustrates that vividly, with the stock hitting the pre-split equivalent of $54.20 on Wednesday only for the price to fall back to a low of $3 on Friday or the equivalent of $30 on a pre-split basis.
The above shows that many investors are groping in the dark, hoping that a stock with the wind behind its back must be one to buy to make money. They ignore the simple but profound principle of buying low and selling high. The other factor that shows up in the judgement is why buy the stock after the split when it is more expensive than if purchased before. this is an age-old issue where investors feel that they are buying the stock cheaper than before but in fact, they are paying more for it and therefore reduce potential profit.
Fosrich may have a bright future but what about the many stocks that are undervalued in the market, why chase expensive ones? When Fosrich reports second quarter earnings this coming week investors will get a glimpse to see whether it was smart to buy the stocks at the elevated prices last week. Investors made the same error with Salada Foods buying it at $10 when it was not worth much more than $3 now the stock is slowly adjusting to reality. Investors in Fesco at $8 are feeling the paid as the stock slowly retreats and is now under $6. Investors in SSL Venture Capital will soon discover some nastiness of speculating in the dark.
There was one change to the Junior Market TOP10 listings this past week, with General Accident returning at the expense of Dolphin Cove which rose 6 percent during the week to $15.93, the former price dropped to $5.07 from $5.99 at the close of the previous week.
Elite Diagnostic fell 9 percent to $3.21 and CAC 2000 dipped 3 percent to $8.25. Jetcon Corporation rose 9 percent to $1.27 and Caribbean Assurance Brokers rallied 8 percent to $2.60 after the company reported six months results showing a profit of $4.45 million, up from a loss of $31 million last year for the same period, ICInsider.com upgraded earnings to 45 cents per share, from 40 cents previously. The Main Market ended the week, with no significant price changes.
Investors should keep a careful watch on Caribbean Assurance Brokers, Dolphin Cove, Express Catering, General Accident, Jamaica Broilers, Lasco Distributors, Lasco Financial, Lasco Manufacturing, Stationery and Office Supplies and Paramount Trading. Dolphin Cove, Caribbean Producers, Express Catering will be major beneficiaries of the strong rebound in tourist arrivals and the supply of General Accident has declined sharply over the past few weeks, but investors may be reluctant to pile into the stock ahead of the hurricane season.
The average PE for the JSE Main Market TOP 10 is 6.2, well below the market average of 13.9, while the Junior Market Top 10 PE sits at 6 versus the market at 12.9. The Junior Market is projected to rise by 238 percent and the Main Market TOP10 is projected to gain an average of 235 percent each to May 2023.
The prospectus for One on One IPO is out with just over 125 million shares earmarked for the wider public. The PE ratio based on the company’s projections to August 2022 is just under 7 cents per share before tax for a PE ratio of around 14.5 just above the market average of 12.9. Based on where recent IPOs are valued investors can look for a price after listing around $1.50 but investors have priced many of them closer to 30 times 2022 earnings in which case a price of $2 is not out of the reckoning.
ICTOP10 focuses on likely yearly winners, accordingly, the list includes some of the best companies in the market but not always. ICInsider.com ranks stocks based on projected earnings to highlight winners from the rest, allowing investors to focus on potential winning stocks and helping to remove emotions in selecting stocks for investments that often result in costly mistakes.
IC TOP10 stocks are likely to deliver the best returns up to the end of May 2023 and are ranked in order of potential gains, computed using projected earnings for the current fiscal year. Another big win for ICTOP10 pick

If investors needed reminders, the stock market showed why severely undervalued stocks should be acquired early, as most investors don’t know when surprises will occur. The announcement this week that IC stock watch pick, Stationery and Office Supplies (SOS), a former ICTOP candidate, that their directors would meet to consider a dividend in August sent the stock to a record high of $19.29, but it closed the week at $15 up 155 percent for the year to date.

Stationery & Office Supplies hits a record high of $19.29 this week.

SOS was last in the TOP10 on the week starting June 13 at $11. It was number 12 on the ICTOP15 chart to start 2022 but climbed to the sixth position on January 11. The dividend to be considered in early August signals that record profit as shown in the first quarter results continues apace. Insider.com forecast is for earnings of $1.70 for the current year, with more to come in 2023. The forecast is for the stock to reach the $30 range by year end. But investors should also consider what a stock split that seems imminent could do to the price.
There were no changes to the TOP10 listings this past week, but there was much volatility in the Junior Market, with CAC 2000 and Jetcon Corporation dropping 13 percent to  8.50 and $1.16, respectively. Caribbean Cream fell 11 percent to $4.30, Dolphin Cove dipped 5 percent and Medical Disposables fell 4 percent to $6.80. The only stock with a rise worth mentioning is Caribbean Assurance Brokers, up 6 percent.
The Main Market enjoyed a better week than the Juniors with no significant declines, while Sterling Investments rose 5 percent to end at $2.88.
Investors should keep a careful watch on Dolphin Cove, Express Catering, General Accident, Jamaica Broilers, Lasco Distributors, Lasco Financial, Lasco Manufacturing, Stationery and Office Supplies and Paramount Trading, Dolphin Cove, Caribbean Producers, Express Catering will be significant beneficiaries of the strong rebound in tourist arrivals. The supply of General Accident has declined sharply over the past few weeks, but investors may be reluctant to lie into the stock ahead of the hurricane season.
The average PE for the JSE Main Market TOP 10 is 6.2, well below the market average of 13.7, while the Junior Market Top 10 PE sits at 5.9 versus the market at 12.8. The Junior Market and the Main Market TOP10 are projected to gain an average of 239 percent each to May 2023.

RJR jumps 19% out of ICTOP10

Investors mostly remained on the sidelines this past week, ahead of the release of the bulk of second quarter results, of which there were a few in the past week. Main Market VM Investments returns to the Top10 as Radio Jamaica dropped out with a price increase and a downward revision to projected earnings to 30 cents per share.
Even as RJR drops out of the TOP10, the stock has much room for more growth but not enough to keep it in the top ranks.
In the Junior Market, Caribbean Cream climbed 4 percent to $4.85, followed by a 5 percent rise for Medical Disposables and Caribbean Assurance Brokers.
Lasco Distributors fell 9 percent to $3.12, Lasco Financial slipped 7 percent to $2.84 and Elite Diagnostic slipped 4 percent to $3.55.
The Main Market, Radio Jamaica rebounded by 19 percent to $2.95, Jamaica Broilers was up 7 percent to $28.94 and Berger Paints rose 6 percent to close at $11.65. Sterling Investments and Sygnus Credit Investments fell by 5 percent to end at $2.75 and $14, respectively.
Investors should watch Dolphin Cove, Express Catering, General Accident, Jamaica Broilers, Lasco Distributors, Lasco Manufacturing and Stationery and Office Supplies. Dolphin Cove, Caribbean Producers, Express Catering will be significant beneficiaries of the strong rebound in tourist arrivals and the supply of General Accident has declined sharply over the past few weeks.
The average PE for the JSE Main Market TOP 10 is 6.2, well below the market average of 14.2, while the Junior Market Top 10 PE sits at 6.2 versus the market at 12.9. The Junior Market TOP10 is projected to gain an average of 225 percent to May 2023 and the Main Market 238 percent.

Broilers profit jumps – stock IC BUYRATED

The discovery and spread of Covid-19 in Jamaica in March 2020 led to the closing of the country’s borders and resulted in a significant scaling down of business operations. The most affected were the tourism sector and the closure of hotels. The result is that thousands of people were out of a job and had either little or no income.

Christopher Levy – Jamaica Broilers President and Chief Executive.

Gross domestic production fell sharply, affecting many companies, including most listed companies. Jamaica Broilers was one of those companies to feel the effect of the economic dislocation. Two years on, the company has bounced back with record revenues and profit even as the local economy is still not a maximum capacity during the fiscal year to April 2022.
Revenue rose sharply for the group for the year to April this year to $75.72 billion, up 33 percent from the $57 billion delivered in 2021. Cost of sales rose faster than revenues by 36.3 percent, to $57.7 billion from $42.3 billion in 2021, resulting in Gross Profit increasing 23 percent to $18 billion from $14.6 billion in 2021. Other income delivered $480 million, down 43 percent on the $848 million in 2021.
Revenues for the Jamaican operations jumped sharply by 33 percent to $45 billion from $34 billion in 2021, while the United States segment comprising eggs and poultry meat surged 41 percent to $29 billion from $21 billion in 2021. The Haitian market suffered a big blow, with sales nosediving 44 percent to $1.3 billion from $2.4 billion in 2021 as that country continues to suffer from economic and social instability. That segment results worsened to a loss of $365 million, from a loss of just $7 million in 2021. Up to the January quarter, the results showed a loss of just $11 million from revenues of $1.1 billion, but the company made an impairment provision of $141 million for this operation which is charged to cost of sales and administration and other expenses. Overall the group wrote down the value of their investment in Haiti by $904 million to just $308 million.
The group’s overall improved performance in Jamaica comes against continued economic dislocation. Data up to March shows the country’s economy growing 8 percent above the prior year but still 4 percent lower than the 2020 fiscal year. The company is a major distributor to the hotel sector with about 15 to 20 percent of local sales, but that industry was down around 30 percent compared to the 2020 fiscal year. The group will benefit from increased demand for its products, with the tourist industry back to 2019 levels in the June quarter.
Profit before taxation rose by 28 percent to $4.1 billion from $3.2 billion and net profit rose 35 percent to $3.2 billion from $2.4 billion in 2021 after taxation of $1 billion for fiscal 2022 rose 24 percent from $807 million in 2021. The company enjoyed onetime finance income of $592,756, the result of debt forgiveness and is, therefore, non-recurring. Excluding this one off income, profits would be up by less than $450 million to $2.7 billion for an increase of 16 percent instead of the 35 percent it grew by and earnings per share would be $2.70 instead of $3.11 reported.
Distribution costs rose a subdued 12 percent to $2.3 billion from just over $2 billion in 2021, while administration and other expenses climbed 23 percent to $11.6 billion from $9.4 billion. Depreciation and amortisation costs rose to $2.1 billion from $1.9 billion in 2021 and Finance costs jumped 32 percent to $1.1 billion, up from $859 million in the previous year.

Jamaica Broilers brand

Gross cash flow brought in $6 billion and $2.2 billion after working capital increase. Addition to fixed and intangible assets consumed $3.5 billion. Net borrowings of $3 billion funded the cash deficit created by purchasing assets. Long term borrowings stood at $10.3 billion and short term at $13.5 billion for a total debt financing of $23.8 billion, moved up from $21 billion in 2021. The group ended with a cash surplus of $556 million after paying dividends of $463 million. At the end of April, shareholders’ equity stood at $21 billion, up from $18.7 billion in 2021. Current assets ended the year at $40 billion, including inventories and biological assets of $31 billion, receivables of $5.4 million, cash and bank balances of $3.8 million. Current liabilities ended the period at $27 billion. Net current assets ended the period at $13 billion.
IC Insider.com forecasts $4.50 per share for the fiscal year ending April 2023, with a PE of 6 times the current year’s earnings based on the price of $27 the stock traded on the Jamaica Stock Exchange Main Market. Net asset value is $9.88, with the stock selling at a premium of 173 percent or 2.7 times book value.
ICInsider.com accords the stock the convicted BUY RATED accreditation based on the immediate growth prospects and the focus on increasing investment in the operation for long term development and growth. The growth is enhanced by increased borrowings, which grew from $18 billion in 2020 and a rise in shareholders’ equity invested in the business.

Big gains for ICTOP10 stocks

The markets bobbed and weaved this past week as investors mostly remained on the sidelines until late this month, ahead of the imminent release of second quarter results. Notwithstanding, there were a few strong moves in both markets.
In the Junior Market, Caribbean Cream climbed 16 percent to $4.66, followed by an 11 percent rise for Access Financial, while Lasco Distributors rose 7 percent to $3.43 and Elite Diagnostic gained 6 percent to close at $3.70. The Main Market saw Key Insurance jumping 23 percent to $4.17.
The Main Market, Radio Jamaica, dropped 15 percent to $2.47 and Berger Paints gave up 10 percent at $11. In the Junior Market, Medical Disposables, CAC 2000 and Lasco Financial fell 5 percent.
The week ended with one new listing in the TOP10 Main market as Key Insurance moved on with the strong gain mentioned above and Jamaica Broilers surged in following a jump in projected earnings after posting full year results.
Keep a careful watch on AMG Packaging, Dolphin Cove, Express Catering, General Accident Lasco Distributors, Lasco Manufacturing and Stationery and Office Supplies. Dolphin Cove, Caribbean Producers, Express Catering will be significant beneficiaries of the strong rebound in tourist arrivals and the supply of General Accident has declined sharply over the past few weeks.
The average PE for the JSE Main Market TOP 10 is 6.2, well below the market average of 14.1, while the Junior Market Top 10 PE is 6.1 versus the market at 13.2. The Junior Market TOP10 is projected to gain an average of 235 percent to May 2023 and the Main Market 244 percent.

Big price rise in ICTOP10

The markets closed with contrasting styles on Friday, with Junior Market listed Caribbean Cream dropping 27 percent to $4.01 and the main market listed Radio Jamaica rising 21 percent to $2.90, with the stock triggering the circuit breaker as investors exchanged 2.9 million units of the company’s shares on Friday.
It is unclear why RJR, a stock that was previously under selling pressure, surprisingly, surged at the week’s close. Caribbean Cream came under pressure after the company reported a loss for the year to February. Investors will have to await the first quarter results in a few days to determine whether the new year will see a return to brighter days.
Five Junior Market ICTOP10 stocks fell and four rose, while in the TOP10 Main Market, six stocks gained and two fell with none exceeding 4 percent, but for RJR.
Elsewhere in the Junior Market, C2000 climbed 11 percent to $10.30. In comparison, Access Financial and Elite Diagnostic gained 5 percent each to close the week at $21.01 and $3.50, respectively. In contrast, Caribbean Assurance Brokers lost 6 percent as Jetcon Corporation and Lasco Financial all fell 5 percent.
The week ended with one new listing in the TOP10 as mild gains by General Accident and a fall in the price of Dolphin Cove resulted in them swapping places.
VM Investments moved out in the TOP10 Main Market and Key Insurance moved into the TOP 10.
It is pretty clear that many investors are investing in the dark with the hope that some overvalued stocks will continue to deliver above average gains into the future, but not many people know that yesterday’s winners may not have tomorrow’s significant gains. They ignore the long established feature of the market going back almost 40 years of the IC 80/20 rule and rule of 72. The IC 80/20 rule is that only two out of ten stocks on average in one year end up in the top 10 the following year. The essence of this is that it is not prudent to invest in the vast majority of last year’s top 10 stocks, especially those that did exceptionally well and are unlikely to repeat.
Rule of 72 is simple. Divide 72 by the rate of return easily shows how quickly money can double. How does this apply to stocks? Last year the Junior Market rose 30 percent and for 2022, so far, by 27 percent. These growth rates indicate that an investment in all 45 stocks in this market would double every two and a half years based on the 2021 increase and roughly one year and four months using the year to date growth. What all of this is saying, investors don’t need to be chasing popular stocks to make good money in the market, choose those that are undervalued, with profit set to grow sufficiently to give a boost to the stock price.
Keep a careful watch on AMG Packaging, Dolphin Cove, Express Catering, Lasco Distributors, Lasco Manufacturing and Stationery and Office Supplies. Dolphin Cove, Caribbean Producers and Express Catering will be significant beneficiaries of the strong rebound in tourist arrivals.
The average PE for the JSE Main Market TOP 10 is 6.2, well below the market average of 15, while the Junior Market Top 10 PE is six versus the market at 12.9. The Junior Market TOP10 is projected to gain an average of 242 percent to May 2023 and the Main Market 229 percent.
ICTOP10 focuses on likely yearly winners, accordingly, the list may or may not include the best companies in the market. ICInsider.com ranks stocks based on projected earnings to highlight winners from the rest, allowing investors to focus on potential winning stocks and helping to remove emotional attachments to stocks that often result in costly mistakes.
IC TOP10 stocks are likely to deliver the best returns up to the end of May 2023 and are ranked in order of potential gains, based on the possible increase for each company, considering the earnings and PE ratios for the current fiscal year. Improved tourist arrivals boost CPJ earnings

Caribbean Producers transformed itself following the pressures posed by the closure of the hotel sector it primarily serves in 2020 and the relatively prolonged period taken to get back to normal levels.

Caribbean Producers

Notably, revenues are rising again and delivering record profits even for a period when tourism numbers were 28 percent down for the March 2022 quarter from 2019. The June quarter could see 30 percent higher arrivals than the March quarter resulting in more revenues for the June quarter compared with that for the March quarter.
The above data portends more positive revenue growth for the coming fiscal year that starts in July. There will be a significant revenue hike in the first three quarters of the 2023 fiscal year, compared to the current fiscal year, with the tourism sector back to normal as indicated by preliminary June quarter arrivals. There should also be improved performance in the June quarter of 2023 compared to 2022, which enjoyed much recovery but was still not at full capacity.
According to Mark Hart and Tom Tyler, directors of the company, “the group remains optimistic for the fourth quarter of the financial year due to strong hotel bookings reported by our customers.”
The group is diversifying their revenue stream, making more investments in stores and adding new product lines for local consumption.
Revenues for the March quarter surged 123 percent to US$28.36 million over 2021 with just $12.7 million with the nine months to March delivering revenues of $86.44 million, up 133 percent above the $37.11 million generated in 2021. Interest and other income generated $89,700 for the quarter, down from $182,000 in 2021 and $652,000 for the nine months to date, up 93 percent over 339,000 in 2021. Profit margin slipped to 31 percent in the quarter but rose to 32 percent for the year to date, with gross profit of $8.9 million from $3.5 million in 2021 and $27.6 million for the nine months to March versus $9.9 million in 2021.
Depreciation cost was steady at just over 1 million for the quarter in both years and $3.2 million for the year to date but Administrative and selling expenses jumped 63 percent in the quarter to $5.2 million from $3.19 million in 2021 and rose 57 percent to $14.7 million for the nine months from $9.4 million in 2021. Finance cost rose 80 percent to $794,810 from $441,626 for the quarter and 71 percent to $2,290,676 from $1,336,016 for the nine months.
Gross cash flow brought in $10.2 million, but growth in receivables, inventories and addition to fixed assets resulted in outflows of $2.4 million, but net loan inflows amounting to $2.4 million resulted in a slight dip in cash funds on hand at the end of the quarter. At the end of March, Current assets amounted to $53.5 million, including Inventories of $30 million, receivables of $19.3 million and cash and bank balances of $4.2million. Current liabilities ended at $25.3 million, resulting in net current assets of $28.2 million. Heavy debt is a major concern at US$43 million in borrowings with equity of just $22 million.
Earnings per share came out at 0.14 of one US cent for the quarter and 0.62 of a US cent for the nine months. IC Insider.com forecasts J$1.65 per share for the fiscal year ending June 2022, with a PE of 8.55 times the current year’s earnings based on the price of $14.11, the stock traded on the Jamaica Stock Exchange Main Market and EPS of $2.60 for 2023 with a PE of a mere 5.4 and putting the stock price in the $50 range by 2023. Net asset value is $3.14, with the stock selling at 3.5 times book value.
All currency is the US dollar unless otherwise stated.

Big gains for ICTOP10 stocks

CAC2000 and AMG Packaging each gained 21 percent this past week, on top of the 10 percent gain in the previous week, while Medical Disposables rose 19 percent and Caribbean Cream and Jetcon Corporation added 10 percent to their price in the Junior Market ICInsidert TOP10.
Former Top10 listed Dolla Financial gained 17.7 percent to close the week at $2.75 after the stock traded as high as $3.60 on Tuesday.
The week ended with one new listing in the TOP10 as the gains by AMG Packaging pushed it out of the Top 10 and is replaced by General Accident, with a fall in the price to $5.79. Elite Diagnostic fell 6 percent to close the week at $3.32 and Lasco Distributors lost 4 percent to close at $3.20.
In the TOP10 Main Market, Berger Paints climbed 11 percent to $12.18 after trading more than 52,000 shares on Thursday and Friday, an unusual amount and Sygnus Credit Investments rose 5 percent to $14.95 while Caribbean Cement lost 8 percent to $64.50 and VM Investments gained 4 percent. There were no significant losers in this market.
Keep a careful watch on Dolphin Cove and Stationery and Office Supplies (SOS) that are close to the top10 and are undervalued. Both companies reported solid gains for 2022 back to school demand. The company also shipped a container of goods recently to the Eastern Caribbean. Dolphin Cove is benefitting from cost reduction in its operations, but more importantly, the solid first quarter results occurred when tourism arrivals were only 63 percent of 2019 numbers. In the first two months of the June quarter, tourist arrivals are 95 percent of the 2019 period and this is bound to have a positive impact on pushing the second quarter numbers much higher than for the first quarter as well as for the balance of the year. A similar situation would apply to Caribbean Producers, a significant supplier to the hotel sector.
The average PE for the JSE Main Market TOP 10 is 6.2, well below the market average of 14.5, while the Junior Market PE for the Top 10 is 6.1 versus the market at 13. The Junior Market TOP10 is projected to gain an average of 230 percent by May 2023 and the Main Market 238 percent.

New ICTOP10 entrants

Dolla Financial a former ICInsidertop10 stock fresh from the recent IPO, was listed on Wednesday and was the highlight of the Jamaica Stock Exchange, with the stock jumping 132 percent pushed by extremely high demand, with just modest selling, with indications the price may need to be in the $3 to $4 range to evoke greater balance between buyers and sellers.
Investors with a longer term investment target of over two years or more may find the potential growth prospects exciting and pay off well at the above prices.
The week ended with two new listings in the TOP10, but half of the Junior Market stocks recorded gained and 4 in the Main Market.

3 new ICTOP10 listings

The old stock market adage of sell in May and go away continued to influence the market this past week, helped by funds tied up in the Dolla Financial IPO, but most investors should get full refunds early this coming week, as well as the likelihood of the trading commencing in the stock in the latter part of the week.
The week ended with three new listings in the TOP10, as declining stocks dominated the Junior and Main Market.
In the Junior Market, the only worthwhile gain was a 14 percent rise by Paramount Trading to $2. Access Financial shed 6 percent to close at $20.45, stocks that declined by 5 percent each are Lasco Financial to $3.43, Jetcon Corporation to $1.26 and Medical Disposables to $7.45.
For the TOP10 Main Market stocks, Caribbean Cement gained 7 percent to $70 after the company reported a proposed $1.50 dividend payment in August. VM Investments lost 10 percent to $5.30, Berger Paints slipped 3 percent to $11, JMMB Group down 5 percent to $42 and Sygnus Credit Investments dipped 5 percent to $14.11.
Lasco Distributors and Paramount Trading dropped out of the Junior Market TOP10. They were replaced by Dolphin Cove, with the price dropping to $15.40 and Stationery and Office Supplies (SOS).
SOS
