Slow start for JSE – Wednesday

JSE intra 20-07-16 The Jamaica stock market is off to slow start with no stock trading over 100,000 units after 75 minutes of the opening of market. The stock with the highest volume is Lasco Distributors with 75,456 units at $7.50 after rising 40 cents.
The all Jamaica Composite Index gained 307.31 points to 177,170.70, the Jamaica Stock Exchange Market Index gained 274.79 points to 159,463.88, the Jamaica Stock Exchange combined index climbed 582.36 point to close at 170,353.83 points andthe junior market index climbed 31.91 points to 2,187.05 with the jump in the price of Lasco Distributors.
Trading at 10:45am resulted in 20 securities changing hands, accounting for a volume of a mere 234,305 shares, with 6 securities rising and 7 falling. The average number of shares traded amounts to 11,715 units compared to an average of 53,267 units on Tuesday.

The Trinidad and Tobago stock market appears to be in full recovery from the spring fall off, with several of the large capitalized companies moving sharply off their lows and some looking to head higher in trading sessions ahead. In today’s trading, Scotiabank jumped $2.97 and First Citizens climbed 25 cents to be just 70 cents away from its 52 weeks’ high, while Republic Holding has a bid of $111 compared to $110 for its last trade.

Losses| Angostura Holdings traded 200 shares, lost 10 cents to close at $13.50, Firstcaribbean International Bank declined by 2 cents and traded 16,424 shares to end at $7.08 and Sagicor Financial Corporation closed with 53,301 shares valued at $373,107 changing hands, to end with a loss of 14 cents at $7.
Firm Trades| Ansa McAl traded 35 units at $62.34, Guardian Media traded 2,663 shares with the price remaining at $19.75, Massy Holdings traded 18,600 shares for a value of $1,055,178 changing hands at $56.73 and National Enterprises traded 14,420 shares at $10.75.

Mixed rate movement for J$ – Tuesday

FX_USPound2 Net inflows into Jamaican FX market on Tuesday ended with slightly more foreign currency being sold, than bought by dealers, resulting in a mix of rate movements at the end of trading. In Tuesday’s trading, dealers bought US$30,368,738 while they sold only US$30,794,502, compared to US$53,836,136 purchased and US$36,901,981 sold on Monday of all currencies, as the Jamaican dollar appreciated against all major currencies.
In US dollar trading, dealers bought US$27,604,778 compared to US$51,088,781 on Monday as the buying rate for the US dollar fell 2 cents to $125.67. A total of US$29,108,096 was sold versus US$34,939,544 on Monday with the selling rate rising 4 cents to end at $126.32. FX trde sum 19-07-16The Canadian dollar buying rate climbed 91 cents to end at $93.78, with dealers buying C$1,056,274 and selling C$601,979, at an average rate that fell 57 cents to $96.19. The average rate for buying the British Pound fell 91 cents to $162.26 for the purchase of £1,367,685, while £741,948 was sold, with the rate gaining 73 cents to $166.52.
At the end of trading, the selling rate for Euro, dropped $2.89 to close at J$139.33 from Monday’s rate, according to data from Bank of Jamaica, while dealers purchased the European common currency at J$133.78, for a fall of $1.12 from Monday’s rate. The US dollar equivalent of other FX HL 19-07-16currencies traded amounts to US$209,876 being bought, while US$249,915 was sold.
Highs & Lows| Notable changes to the highest and lowest traded rates, for the Jamaican dollar in the foreign exchange market on Tuesday, include, a drop of $1.31 in the highest selling rate of the Canadian Dollar to $100.21 and a rise $1.70 in the lowest selling rate to end at $93, while the highest buying rate of the British Pound climbed 63 cents to close at $172 and the lowest buying dropped $45.79 to $89.

The all Jamaica Composite Index gained 389.78 points to 176,954.71, the Jamaica Stock Exchange Market Index gained 348.54 points to 159,270.75, the Jamaica Stock Exchange combined index climbed 325.73 point to close at 169,817.89 points andthe junior market index slipped 0.24 points to 2,152.28.
Trading at 10:50am resulted in 25 securities changing hands, accounting for a volume of 1,331,680 shares, with 8 securities rising and 8 falling. The average number of shares traded amounts to 53,267 units compared to an average of 110,630 units on Monday.

Stockpile jumps US$17M on Monday

100bill Net inflows into Jamaican FX market ended at US$82 million in just over the last three weeks as inflows continue to exceed outflows. So far, the build-up has not had a great deal of impact on rates, with the US dollar closing at $126.28, compared to $126.38 at the end of June.
In Monday’s trading, dealers bought US$53,836,136 while they sold only US$36,901,981, compared to US$33,384,248 purchased and US$24,963,354 sold on Friday of all currencies, as the Jamaican dollar appreciated against all major currencies.
In US dollar trading, dealers bought US$51,088,781 compared to US$30,676,215 on Friday as the buying rate for the US dollar fell 1 cent to $125.69. A total of US$34,939,544 was sold versus US$23,514,139 on Friday with the selling rate falling 11 cents to end at $126.28. FX trde sum 18-07-16The Canadian dollar buying rate declined $1.85 cents to end at $92.87, with dealers buying C$1,034,930 and selling C$766,532, at an average rate that fell $1.16 to $96.76. The average rate for buying the British Pound fell 59 cents to $163.17 for the purchase of £1,386,112, while £815,168 was sold, with the rate falling $2.72 to $165.79.

Caribbean Cream hits new high – Monday

JM - Sum 18-7-16r Junior market trading sank to only 7 securities being active accounting for less than 1 million shares changing hands as the market continues to consolidate. At the close Caribbean Cream traded at a new all-time high of $7.55 but just barely held on, for a new closing high with a gain of 5 cents at $6.70, with 46,157 shares traded.
Active supply for Cream is presently low with just two offers just over 4,000 shares while bids sit around the $6.50 mark, waiting for some volume to appear on the sell side.
The junior index closed at 2,152.04 with a fall 5.30 points as 3 advancing and 3 declining. At the close of the market on Monday, only 969,188 units traded, valued at $4,657,054.
