stocks Trinidad and Tobago stock market ended Thursday with 13 securities trading of which 1 gained, 3 declined and 9 remained unchanged. Trading ended with increased volume and value as Clico Investment Fund dominated trading in dollar terms with the fund accounting for $6 million of the total amount traded.
Trading activity resulted in 306,294 shares valued at $6,838,267 changing hands, compared to 127,817 shares valued at $1,315,583 on Wednesday.
The market closed with modest movements in the indices, with the Composite Index declining by 0.23 points to close at 1,172.02. The All T&T Index closed with a loss of 0.13 points at 1,819.71 and the Cross Listed Index fell by 0.05 points to 69.91 points and is up 41.3 percent year to date.

Stocks ended trading on the Jamaica Stock Exchange with the main market closing with a gain of 12 percent year to date as the market indices made good gains on Thursday. The market closed with 43 securities trading as the prices of 21 gained while 14 declined in the overall market, including 8 stocks rising and 4 falling, in the junior market.
At the close, the all Jamaica Composite Index climbed 701.19 points to end at a new closing high of 186,753.02, the JSE Market Index jumped 626.99 points to a record close of 168,032.19 and the JSE combined index surge 926.01 points, to end at record high of 180,772.67, up 15 percent for the year to date.
At the close 4,654,511 units valued at $50,143,006 changed hands, compared to 19,800,887 units valued at $274,090,977 changing hands on Wednesday. The junior market accounted for 1,643,799 units valued at $10,731,708 of the stocks traded.

Trading volume fell back to more normal levels on the junior market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange on Thursday although Honey Bun had 1,002,000 units changing hands.
Market activity resulted in advancing stocks over powered declining stocks 8 to 4, pushing the junior market index up by 33.53 points to 2,427.87 to be up 36 percent for the year to date.
At the close, 19 securities up from 12 on Wednesday but the trading volume dropped 82 percent from Wednesday’s levels, ending with 1,643,799 units changing hands, while value traded, declined 79 percent to $10,731,708 from $51,520,805, on Wednesday.

ICI JSE int trd 13-10-16The all Jamaica Composite Index dropped 233.27 points to 185,818.56 the Jamaica Stock Exchange Market Index fell 208.58 points to 167,196.62, the Jamaica Stock Exchange combined index slipped 9.50 points to close at 179,837.16 and the junior market index rose 17.90 points to 2,421.24.
At 10.45 am, a total of 28 securities traded, resulting in a volume of 1,933,234 shares changing hands carrying a value of $12,769,849, compared to 1,599,416 shares changing hands carrying a value of $10,753,662 on Wednesday.
The average number of shares traded amounts to 69,044 units compared to 72,701 on Wednesday. Market activity resulted in 10 stocks falling while the prices of 12 securities rose.
Caribbean Cement dropped $3 in early trading with 30,000 units at $30, but recovered back to $33 after trading 5,000 more units, JMMB Group fell from $14.98 on Wednesday to $13.50 while trading 3,000 units, Scotia Investments jumped to $34 from $30 while trading 26,000 units, Caribbean Cream Traded 260,866 units and last traded at $9.90 but went as high as $10.19, Honey Bun traded 1 million shares but lost ground to $5.51, down 49 cents but the bid is now at $5.70.

FX_USPound The Jamaican foreign exchange market closed on Wednesday with buying and selling volume almost equal but with C$3.7 million more sold than purchased by dealers. At the close of trading, the Jamaican dollar’s selling rate, lost value against the US dollar but gained against the others.
At the end of trading, the equivalent of all currencies bought by dealers amounted to US$32,082,105, while US$32,451,077 was sold, compared to US$38,210,042 purchased and US$43,422,027 sold on Tuesday.
In US dollar trading, dealers bought US$29,052,296 compared to US$32,905,929 on Tuesday. The buying rate for the US dollar rose by 17 cents to close at $127.92. ICI FX sum 12-10-16A total of US$26,777,442 was sold versus US$29,180,000 on Tuesday, with the selling rate rising 10 cents to end at $128.62. The Canadian dollar buying rate dropped $2.68 to $93.87, with dealers buying C$942,312 and selling C$4,671,860 at an average rate that fell 96 cents to $97.38. The average rate for buying the British Pound declined $1.22 to $155.04 for the purchase of £1,516,501 while £1,240,817 was sold at a rate that dipped 23 cents to end at $156.92.
At the end of trading, dealers sold €547,389 as the selling rate for the Euro, closed at $142.10 for fall of 98 cents from Tuesday’s rate, according to data from Bank of Jamaica. Dealers purchased €440,823 of the European common currency at $140.82 after falling $1.47 from the rate on Tuesday. The US dollar equivalent of other currencies traded, amounts to US$15,047 being bought and selling of US$18,052.

At 10.45 am, a total of 22 securities traded, resulting in a volume of 1,599,416 shares changing hands carrying a value of $10,753,662, compared to 2,592,474 shares changing hands carrying a value of $31,641,641 on Tuesday.
The average number of shares traded amounts to 72,701 units compared to 92,588 on Tuesday. Market activity resulted in 6 stocks falling while the prices of 9 securities rose.
JMMB Group traded 56,992 units and lost $1.50 to trade at $13.50, Scotia Investments jumped to $34 from $30 while trading 26,000 units, Blue Power Group pulled back from $28 that it closed at on Tuesday to $23.50 on small volume and Lasco Financial Services dropped to $2.80 from $3.20.
Jamaica Money Market Brokers 7.50% preference share had 355,130 units trading at $2.10, Caribbean Flavours & Fragrances traded 820,700 and rose to $8.60 from $8, Cable & Wireless traded 103,300 units at 98 cents.

Major gains in Jamaica’s Caricom trade

Bauxite shipJamaica’s trade deficit with CARICOM dropped sharply or 29.7 percent to end at US$123 million at the end of the year to April 2016, for a fall of US$52 million, from US$174.5 million for the similar period in 2015.
Jamaica’s imports from CARICOM declined by 25.3 percent to US$148 million, from US$198 million for January to April 2015. Mineral Fuels fell 36.5 percent to US$72 million from US$113 million, Chemicals declined by 29.2 percent to US$8 million and Food amounted to US$46 million, a fall of US$3.5 million or 7 percent. Beverages & Tobacco imports declined by 26.2 percent to US$7.7 million and Manufactured Goods rose 14.5 percent to US$7.5 million.
Exports to the region increased by 18.3 percent or US$2 million, to US$25 million. Re-exports climbed 53.4 percent were to US$5.6 million. Domestic exports were valued at US$19.7 million, 1.2 percent less than the US$20 million recorded for January to April 2015. Lower exports of Manufactured Goods were the main contributor to this decline, due mainly to lower exports of cement related products.
