JSE down as 14 stocks rise 11 fall on Tuesday
The main market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange, gave up about a third of the gains of Monday, when the main market indices surged sharply, with the all Jamaica composite rising over 2,000 points with the others just slightly below. At the close, there were 14 stocks rising, 11 declining with 26 securities totalling 2,430,349 units, valued at $25,713,681 changing hands, in all market segments. Three junior market stocks closed at new 52 weeks’ high.
The main market indices suffered declines with the JSE Market Index declining 613.31 points to 97,802.49, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index fell 685.42 points to 108,256.07 and the JSE combined index dropped 399.42 to end at 101,664.00 points.

In trading, Berger Paints ended with 27,354 shares trading 1 cent higher at $2.30, Cable and Wireless lost 3 cents with 15,118 shares changing hands to close at 50 cents, Carreras traded 188,871 shares to close 99 cents lower at $49. Desnoes & Geddes traded 80,135 shares to close at $7, after gaining 18 cents, Grace Kennedy traded only 1,000 shares at $64 but had no shares on offer, at the close, for the third day running. Jamaica Broilers closed at $6.09 with 46,300 shares changing ownership while gaining 29 cents. Mayberry Investments had 132,117 shares trading to close at $2.25 for a loss of 10 cents. National Commercial Bank had 41,975 units trading at the close at $29.01 for a $1.49 cents fall, Pan Jamaican traded 30,050 shares to close with a fall of 50 cents to $61. Radio Jamaica traded 68,016 shares with a 50 cents rise to end at $4, Sagicor Group with 272,875 shares trading, closed at $13, Scotia Group added 15 cents in ending at $23.90 while 265,275 shares traded and Scotia Investments gained $2.45 with 5,000 units changing hands to close at $27.45.
Sharp drop in JSE main indices on Friday
The main market indices suffered declines with the JSE Market Index dropping 1,349.88 points to 96,619.75, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index diving 1,508.57 points to 106,934.30 and the JSE combined index falling 995.05 to end at 100,308.30 points. Falls in the prices of Mayberry Investments, Pan Jamaican Investments, Scotia Group and Scotia Investments contributed to the declines.

In trading, Cable and Wireless lost 1 cent with 40,000 shares changing hands to close at 51 cents, Desnoes & Geddes had 161,523 shares trading 2 cents higher, at $6.62, Grace Kennedy traded 8,785 shares at $64.50, for a rise of 50 cents.e Interestingly the stock closed without any stock being offered for sale, the likes of which have not been seen for a long time. Jamaica Broilers traded at $5.81 with 16,146 shares changing ownership and dropping 4 cents. JMMB Group traded 26,700 units at $7.64, National Commercial Bank had 230,441 units trading between $28.34 and $31 but last traded at $31, for a gain of $2.80, Pan Jamaican traded 8,647 shares to close with a loss of 98 cents to $61.02. Sagicor Group with 167,015 shares trading, closed with a gain of 3 cents to end at $13.03, Sagicor Real Estate Fund with 8,550 shares closed at $7.50. Scotia Group lost 20 cents in ending at $23.50 while 208,506 shares traded, Scotia Investments traded 8,550 units with a loss of $2.50 to end at $25 and Proven Investments preference share close at $5 with 51,480 units changing hands.
Strong jump in JSE on Thursday
The Jamaica Stock Exchange saw continued low trading activity on Thursday. At the close, there were 14 stocks rising, 9 declining with 29 securities totalling 4,929,890 units, valued at $167,356,630 changing hands, in all market segments.
The main market indices suffered declines with the JSE Market Index rose 1,645.04 points to 97,969.63, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index jumped 1,838.44 points to 108,442.87 and the JSE combined index gained 1,604.63 to end at 101,303.35 points.

In trading, Berger Paints had 49,048 units changing hands at $2.30, Cable and Wireless gained 2 cents with 609,674 shares changing hands, to close at 52 cents. Carreras traded 11,356 shares with a gain of 10 cents to land at $49, traded 2,039,931 shares at $64, for a fall of 66 cents, Jamaica Broilers traded at $5.80 with 36,585 shares changing ownership and dropping 20 cents. Jamaica Stock Exchange lost 20 cents with 40,000 shares trading to end at $7.30, JMMB Group traded 50,233 units at $7.64 and gained a cent, National Commercial Bank had 1,078,244 trading between $27.72 and $30 but ended at $28.20, for a gain of 68 cents, Pan Jamaican traded 1,820 shares to close with a gain of 28 cents to $62. with 3,000 shares trading, closed with a loss of 20 cents, to end at $13, Scotia Group lost 5 cents in ending at $23.70 while 13,580 shares traded and Jamaica Money Market Brokers 8.75% preference share close at $2.56 with a gain of 16 cents with 41,500 units changing hands.
7 stocks up 9 down on JSE
The main market indices suffered mild declines with the JSE Market Index losing 108.96 points to 96,324.59, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index fell 121.77 points to 106,604.43 and the JSE combined index slipped 108.46 to end at 99,698.72 points.

The rise in the closing bids coincides with the close of the month as portfolios are priced at month end.
In trading, Berger Paints had 49,048 units changing hands at $2.30, Cable and Wireless lost 1 cent with 325,800 shares changing hands, to close at 50 cents. Grace Kennedy had 64,962 shares trading and gained 66 cents to end at $64.66, Jamaica Broilers traded at $5.80 with 36,585 shares changing ownership and dropping 20 cents. JMMB Group traded 16,250 units at $7.63 and lost 2 cents, Pan Jamaican traded 8,177 shares to close at $61.72, Sagicor Group with 145,626 shares trading, closed with a gain of 20 cents, to end at $13.20, Scotia Group lost 25 cents in ending at $23.75 while 4,400 shares traded. Supreme Ventures close at $3.60 with 210,487 units changing hands and Proven Investments ordinary share, had 1,239,499 units changing hands at 19.5 US cents, after shedding 0.25 cents.
Weak start to the week for JSE
The Jamaica Stock Exchange saw low trading activity on Monday, at the close there were 11 stocks rising and 11 declining with 30 securities totalling 1,250,833 units, valued at $8,226,223 changing hands, in all market segments. Trading in the main market was very light with only 446,610 shares trading.
The main market indices enjoyed a second day of increases with the JSE Market Index lost 150.92 points to 96,356.49, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index declined 168.66 points to 106,640.09 and the JSE combined index fell 112.62 to end at 99, 626.43.

This indicator has increased in strength over the past week as the period for company results for the third quarter approaches. There remain some pockets of weakness as shown by the number of stocks that are offered below their last selling prices.
In trading, Cable and Wireless fell 2 cents with 6,000 shares changing hands, to close at 49 cents, Caribbean Cement had 215,450 shares trading with a 1 cent rise to $7.71, Carreras lost 40 cent in trading 11,250 shares and ended at $49.10, Hardware & Lumber traded just 797 shares to end at $11 for a fall of $2. Mayberry Investments had 13,500 units trading at $2.80, National Commercial Bank had 74,249 units changing hands and ended at $27.75, Pan Jamaican traded 2,337 shares to close with a loss of $1.29 at $61.71. Radio Jamaica traded at $3.08 with 18,847 shares changing hands. Sagicor Group with 14,503 shares closed 18 cents up, to $13. Scotia Group gained $1.18 in ending at $24.95 with 56,261 shares trading, Scotia Investments gained 47 cents to $25 with only 1,900 units, Sterling Investments ended with a loss of 40 cents to a 52 weeks’ low of $13 while trading 3,000 shares and Supreme Ventures lost 15 cents with 10,300 shares trading to end at $3.60.

On Wednesday the Jamaica Stock Exchange saw more activity than on Tuesday but the market still seems to be nervous with a high level of stocks riding and declining on the same day. At the close there were 8 stocks rising to 8 that declined.
The market closed with 26 securities changing hands totalling 4,027,018 units, valued at $45,899,661 traded in all market segments.
The JSE Market Index gained 148.80 points to 95,738.02, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index added 166.30 points to 105,948.92 and the JSE combined index rose 141.78 points to end at 98,878.40.

National Commercial Bank had 35,609 units changing hands and ended at $27.47 while losing just 1 cent, Pan Jamaican Investment traded 8,052 shares to close at $61.71. Sagicor Group with 175,880 shares trading, closed 19 cents lower at $12.81, Scotia Group traded 1,496,663 shares to close with a loss of 16 cents at $23.75, Scotia Investments traded 16,267 shares in closing at $24.52 with a gain of 2 cents. Supreme Ventures had 41,160 shares changing hands at $3.75, for a gain of 35 cents Jamaica Money Market Brokers 8.75% preference share traded 231,855 shares at a 52 weeks low of $2.49 after losing 16 cents and Proven Investments preference share traded 59,200 units at $5.
12 up 12 down on JSE on Tuesday
On Tuesday the Jamaica Stock Exchange saw more activity than on Monday but the market still seems to be nervous with a high level of stocks riding and declining. At the close there were 12 stocks rising to 12 that declined.
The market continues to trade with low volumes but the number of securities trading picked up to 33 from only 19 securities changing hands on Monday as 3,036,646 units, valued at a mere $11,130,858 traded in all market segments.
The JSE Market Index dipped 569.70 points to 95,589.22, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index slipped 636.67 points to 105,782.62 and the JSE combined index fell 543.24 points to end at 98,736.62.

Jamaica Stock Exchange traded at $7,20, down by 25 cents with 29,500 shares, JMMB Group traded 22,320 units and lost 7 cents to end at $7.63, Kingston Wharves had 28,000 units trading to close at $6.50, Mayberry Investments added 42,000 units at $2.80 after shedding 20 cents, National Commercial Bank had only 5,900 units changing hands, ended at $27.48 while gaining just 1 cent, Radio Jamaica traded 27,079 shares to close at $3.08, Sagicor Group with 97,907 shares trading, closed for40 cents higher at $13, Scotia Group traded 32,956 shares to close with a gain of 1 cent at $23.91, Supreme Ventures had 31,600 shares changing hands at $3.40, for a loss of 34 cents, Proven Investments ordinary share traded 93,750 units at 20.01 US cents, down by 1.99 cents and Jamaica Money Market Brokers 7.50% preference share traded 1,304,000 units at $2 after dropping 1 cent and Jamaica Money Market Brokers 8.75% preference share traded 110,000 shares at a 52 weeks low of $2.65 after losing 15 cents.
