20 JSE stocks rose 3 fell Thursday

NCB traded 5.7m shares as high as $32.50 for an intraday 52 weeks’ high.

The main indices of the Jamaica Stock Exchange indices climbed sharply for the second day, as advancing stocks outpaced declining ones by a wide margin. At the close, there were 20 stocks rising, 3 declining, with 32 securities totalling 8,200,042 units, valued at $195,474,158 changing hands, in all market segments, and with three junior market stocks ending at new 52 weeks’ closing high, while National Commercial Bank traded at a 52 weeks’ intraday high.
The main market indices enjoyed another day of decent gains. The JSE Market Index climbed 699.38 points to 99,772.07, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index rose 781.60 points to 110,457.19 and the JSE combined index jumped 1,035.02 to end at 104,016.00 points.

markets, the Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator had a reading of 11 stocks with bids higher than their last selling prices and 4 with offers that were lower.
In trading, Cable and Wireless added 2 cents, with 981,889 shares changing hands to close at 53 cents, Carreras traded 257,755 shares to close 6 cents higher at $50.31, Caribbean Cement stock, gained 49 cents with 63,483 shares changing hands at $8.50, Desnoes and Geddes did not trade, the stock closed with a bid of $10.58 to buy 2,744,725 units. Jamaica Broilers closed at $6.50 with 119,681 shares changing ownership, Jamaica Producers gained $1.30 in trading 12,014 shares to end at $18, JMMB Group traded just 8,546 shares at $8 with a 35 cents gain. The stock closed with the bid at $8 to buy 1,754 shares but with 100,000 units on the bid at $7.90 and 466,490 at $7.80, the closest amounts being offered are 51,500 and 100,000 shares at $8.50. Mayberry Investments traded just 1,020 units at $2.35,

but the stock that fell sharply during the week to $2.20 now has more than 1 million units on the bid at $2.35, the lowest offer is at $2.70. National Commercial Bank rose $1.01 to $30.02 with 5,710,591 shares trading as high as $32.50 for an intraday 52 weeks’ high. Pan Jamaican Investments traded 14,123 shares at $61.25 having gained 25 cents, Radio Jamaica traded 46,000 shares to close at $4, Sagicor Real Estate Fund ended with 40,900 shares trading at $7.51, Scotia Investments lost $1.95 in ending at $26.50 while 202,000 shares traded and Supreme Ventures gained 3 cents with 154,935 units changing hands to close at $3.63.

JSE down as 14 stocks rise 11 fall on Tuesday

The main market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange, gave up about a third of the gains of Monday, when the main market indices surged sharply, with the all Jamaica composite rising over 2,000 points with the others just slightly below. At the close, there were 14 stocks rising, 11 declining with 26 securities totalling 2,430,349 units, valued at $25,713,681 changing hands, in all market segments. Three junior market stocks closed at new 52 weeks’ high.
The main market indices suffered declines with the JSE Market Index declining 613.31 points to 97,802.49, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index fell 685.42 points to 108,256.07 and the JSE combined index dropped 399.42 to end at 101,664.00 points.
IC bid-offer Indicator| At the end of trading, in the main and junior markets, the Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator had a reading of 13 stocks with bids higher than their last selling prices and 2 with offers that were lower.
In trading, Berger Paints ended with 27,354 shares trading 1 cent higher at $2.30, Cable and Wireless lost 3 cents with 15,118 shares changing hands to close at 50 cents, Carreras traded 188,871 shares to close 99 cents lower at $49. Desnoes & Geddes traded 80,135 shares to close at $7, after gaining 18 cents, Grace Kennedy traded only 1,000 shares at $64 but had no shares on offer, at the close, for the third day running. Jamaica Broilers closed at $6.09 with 46,300 shares changing ownership while gaining 29 cents. Mayberry Investments had 132,117 shares trading to close at $2.25 for a loss of 10 cents. National Commercial Bank had 41,975 units trading at the close at $29.01 for a $1.49 cents fall, Pan Jamaican traded 30,050 shares to close with a fall of 50 cents to $61. Radio Jamaica traded 68,016 shares with a 50 cents rise to end at $4, Sagicor Group with 272,875 shares trading, closed at $13, Scotia Group added 15 cents in ending at $23.90 while 265,275 shares traded and Scotia Investments gained $2.45 with 5,000 units changing hands to close at $27.45.

JSE main indices up sharply on Monday

The Jamaica Stock Exchange saw continued low trading activity on Monday, while the main market indices surged sharply with the all Jamaica composite rising over 2,000 points. At the close, there were 12 stocks rising, 9 declining with 25 securities totalling 1,997,084 units, valued at $8,313,166 changing hands, in all market segments.
The main market indices suffered declines with the JSE Market Index leapt 1,796.05 points to 98,415.80, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index surged 2,007.19 points to 108,941.49 and the JSE combined index jumped 1,755.12 to end at 102,063.42 points.
IC bid-offer Indicator| At the end of trading, in the main and junior markets, the Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator had a reading of 15 stocks with bids higher than their last selling prices and 4 with offers that were lower.
In trading, Berger Paints ended with 45,500 shares trading 1 cent down at $2.29, Cable and Wireless added 2 cents with 808,014 shares changing hands to close at 53 cents, Caribbean Cement traded 25,840 shares to close 1 cent higher at $8.01. Desnoes & Geddes traded 42,650 shares at to close at $6.82, after gaining 20 cents, Grace Kennedy did not trade but had no shares on offer, at the close, for the second day running. Jamaica Broilers traded at $5.80 with 13,951 shares changing ownership and dropping 1 cent. Jamaica Producers dropped $1 to end at $17 with only 10,000 units trading, Jamaica Stock Exchange traded 27,000 shares in ending at $7.11, for a 19 cents fall, Mayberry Investments had 32,000 shares trading to close at $2.35, for a loss of 25 cents, at the close the stock was on offer at $2.20. National Commercial Bank had 30,500 units trading at the close at $30.50 for a 50 cents fall, Pan Jamaican traded 5,000 shares to close with a rise of 48 cents to $61.50. Sagicor Group with 32,000 shares trading, closed with a loss of 3 cents to end at $13, Scotia Group added 25 cents in ending at $23.75 while 149,247 shares traded and Proven Investments ordinary share close at 22 US cents after gaining 2.25 cents with 173,100 units changing hands.

NCB traded 230,441 shares with the last trade at $31 on Friday

The Jamaica Stock Exchange saw continued low trading activity on Friday, some which is due to lack of volumes for sale while the main market indices dived sharply. At the close, there were 13 stocks rising, 11 declining with 29 securities totalling 1,924,444 units, valued at $18,921,808 changing hands, in all market segments.
The main market indices suffered declines with the JSE Market Index

dropping 1,349.88 points to 96,619.75, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index diving 1,508.57 points to 106,934.30 and the JSE combined index falling 995.05 to end at 100,308.30 points. Falls in the prices of Mayberry Investments, Pan Jamaican Investments, Scotia Group and Scotia Investments contributed to the declines.

In trading, Cable and Wireless lost 1 cent with 40,000 shares changing hands to close at 51 cents, Desnoes & Geddes had 161,523 shares trading 2 cents higher, at $6.62, Grace Kennedy traded 8,785 shares at $64.50, for a rise of 50 cents.e Interestingly the stock closed without any stock being offered for sale, the likes of which have not been seen for a long time. Jamaica Broilers traded at $5.81 with 16,146 shares changing ownership and dropping 4 cents. JMMB Group traded 26,700 units at $7.64,

National Commercial Bank had 230,441 units trading between $28.34 and $31 but last traded at $31, for a gain of $2.80, Pan Jamaican traded 8,647 shares to close with a loss of 98 cents to $61.02. Sagicor Group with 167,015 shares trading, closed with a gain of 3 cents to end at $13.03, Sagicor Real Estate Fund with 8,550 shares closed at $7.50. Scotia Group lost 20 cents in ending at $23.50 while 208,506 shares traded, Scotia Investments traded 8,550 units with a loss of $2.50 to end at $25 and Proven Investments preference share close at $5 with 51,480 units changing hands.

Strong jump in JSE on Thursday

The Jamaica Stock Exchange saw continued low trading activity on Thursday. At the close, there were 14 stocks rising, 9 declining with 29 securities totalling 4,929,890 units, valued at $167,356,630 changing hands, in all market segments.
The main market indices suffered declines with the JSE Market Index rose 1,645.04 points to 97,969.63, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index jumped 1,838.44 points to 108,442.87 and the JSE combined index gained 1,604.63 to end at 101,303.35 points.

Carreras traded 11,356 shares with a gain of 10 cents to land at $49, traded 2,039,931 shares at $64, for a fall of 66 cents, Jamaica Broilers traded at $5.80 with 36,585 shares changing ownership and dropping 20 cents. Jamaica Stock Exchange lost 20 cents with 40,000 shares trading to end at $7.30, JMMB Group traded 50,233 units at $7.64 and gained a cent, National Commercial Bank had 1,078,244 trading between $27.72 and $30 but ended at $28.20, for a gain of 68 cents, Pan Jamaican traded 1,820 shares to close with a gain of 28 cents to $62. with 3,000 shares trading, closed with a loss of 20 cents, to end at $13, Scotia Group lost 5 cents in ending at $23.70 while 13,580 shares traded and Jamaica Money Market Brokers 8.75% preference share close at $2.56 with a gain of 16 cents with 41,500 units changing hands.

The Jamaica Stock Exchange saw continued low trading activity on Wednesday. At the close, there were 7 stocks rising, 9 declining with 22 securities totalling 3,227,759 units, valued at $39,616,392 changing hands, in all market segments. Proven Investments closed with 1.24 million units with a value of US$244,000 changing hands, to be the market leading on the last trading day of September.
The main market indices suffered mild declines with the JSE Market Index losing 108.96 points to 96,324.59,

the JSE All Jamaican Composite index fell 121.77 points to 106,604.43 and the JSE combined index slipped 108.46 to end at 99,698.72 points.
IC bid-offer Indicator| At the end of trading, in the main and junior markets, the Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator had a reading of 16 stocks with bids higher than their last selling prices and 4 with offers that were lower. The rise in the closing bids coincides with the close of the month as portfolios are priced at month end.
In trading, Berger Paints had 49,048 units changing hands at $2.30, Cable and Wireless lost 1 cent with 325,800 shares changing hands, to close at 50 cents. Grace Kennedy had 64,962 shares trading and gained 66 cents to end at $64.66,

Jamaica Broilers traded at $5.80 with 36,585 shares changing ownership and dropping 20 cents. JMMB Group traded 16,250 units at $7.63 and lost 2 cents, Pan Jamaican traded 8,177 shares to close at $61.72, Sagicor Group with 145,626 shares trading, closed with a gain of 20 cents, to end at $13.20, Scotia Group lost 25 cents in ending at $23.75 while 4,400 shares traded. Supreme Ventures close at $3.60 with 210,487 units changing hands and Proven Investments ordinary share, had 1,239,499 units changing hands at 19.5 US cents, after shedding 0.25 cents.

Weak start to the week for JSE

The Jamaica Stock Exchange saw low trading activity on Monday, at the close there were 11 stocks rising and 11 declining with 30 securities totalling 1,250,833 units, valued at $8,226,223 changing hands, in all market segments. Trading in the main market was very light with only 446,610 shares trading.
The main market indices enjoyed a second day of increases with the JSE Market Index lost 150.92 points to 96,356.49, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index declined 168.66 points to 106,640.09 and the JSE combined index fell 112.62 to end at 99, 626.43.
IC bid-offer Indicator| At the end of trading, in the main and junior markets, the Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator had a reading of 14 stocks with bids higher than their last selling prices and 5 with offers that were lower. This indicator has increased in strength over the past week as the period for company results for the third quarter approaches. There remain some pockets of weakness as shown by the number of stocks that are offered below their last selling prices.
In trading, Cable and Wireless fell 2 cents with 6,000 shares changing hands, to close at 49 cents, Caribbean Cement had 215,450 shares trading with a 1 cent rise to $7.71, Carreras lost 40 cent in trading 11,250 shares and ended at $49.10, Hardware & Lumber traded just 797 shares to end at $11 for a fall of $2. Mayberry Investments had 13,500 units trading at $2.80, National Commercial Bank had 74,249 units changing hands and ended at $27.75, Pan Jamaican traded 2,337 shares to close with a loss of $1.29 at $61.71. Radio Jamaica traded at $3.08 with 18,847 shares changing hands. Sagicor Group with 14,503 shares closed 18 cents up, to $13. Scotia Group gained $1.18 in ending at $24.95 with 56,261 shares trading, Scotia Investments gained 47 cents to $25 with only 1,900 units, Sterling Investments ended with a loss of 40 cents to a 52 weeks’ low of $13 while trading 3,000 shares and Supreme Ventures lost 15 cents with 10,300 shares trading to end at $3.60.

Rising JSE stocks outpace decliners Thursday

The Jamaica Stock Exchange saw low activity with only 24 securities trading, the volume increased sharply from recent trading days with Cable and Wireless trading almost 11 million shares and Ciboney with just over 4 million units than on Thursday. At the close there were 11 stocks rising to 4 declining. The market closed with 24 totalling 18,198,760 units, valued at $28,814,733 changing hands traded in all market segments.
The main market indices enjoyed a second day of increases with the JSE Market Index gained 89.23 points to 95,827.25, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index added 99.71 points to 106,048.63 and the JSE combined index rose 167.49 points to end at 99,045.89.
IC bid-offer Indicator| At the end of trading, in the main and junior markets, the Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator had a reading of 16 stocks with bids higher than their last selling prices and 8 with offers that were lower.

This is an indication that while there is buying interest above current prices for a large number of stocks, there are still a noticeable number of stocks that investors want to be out of, at lower prices, than the last selling price.
Stocks that particularly weak are Hardware and Lumber with a last sale of $13 now being offered at $11.50. Grace Kennedy reported earlier in the year that they were considering an offer for this subsidiary at a maximum price of $18.50 and that the deal should be closed by the end of July. To date there has been no further information on the buy out offer, even as the July deadline is long past. Sterling Investments with a last sale of $13.40, now have on offer at $13.15, 242,600 units and no bids to buy.
Trading in the main market ended with Berger Paints trading 20,000 shares at $2.28, Cable and Wireless slipped 1 cent with 10,774,000 shares changing hands, to close at 49 cents. At the close the stock had 1,122,637 units on the bid at 48 cents and 172,996 units on offer at 51 cents. Carreras traded 224,067 shares at $49.50 while gaining 50 cents, Ciboney Group with 4,365,250 shares at 9 cents, Desnoes & Geddes ended with 135,000 shares trading with a 35 cents gain to close at $6.50, Jamaica Broilers had 35,930 units trading at $6.09, JMMB Group traded at $7.63 with 10,984 shares changing ownership.

Mayberry Investments had 160,100 shares trading at $2.80, National Commercial Bank had 81,100 units changing hands and ended at $27.76 while losing just 1 cent, Sagicor Group with 80,000 shares trading, closed 1 cent higher at $12.82, Scotia Group traded 52,000 shares to close with a rise of 2 cents to $23.77. Scotia Investments traded 10,110 shares in closing at $24.53 with a gain of 1 cent, Jamaica Money Market Brokers 7.50% preference share 313,046 units at $2 and Jamaica Money Market Brokers 8.75% preference share 1,841,065 units at $2.50 fo a rise of 1 cent.

On Wednesday the Jamaica Stock Exchange saw more activity than on Tuesday but the market still seems to be nervous with a high level of stocks riding and declining on the same day. At the close there were 8 stocks rising to 8 that declined.
The market closed with 26 securities changing hands totalling 4,027,018 units, valued at $45,899,661 traded in all market segments.
The JSE Market Index gained 148.80 points to 95,738.02, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index added 166.30 points to 105,948.92 and the JSE combined index rose 141.78 points to end at 98,878.40.

On Tuesday the Jamaica Stock Exchange saw more activity than on Monday but the market still seems to be nervous with a high level of stocks riding and declining. At the close there were 12 stocks rising to 12 that declined.
The market continues to trade with low volumes but the number of securities trading picked up to 33 from only 19 securities changing hands on Monday as 3,036,646 units, valued at a mere $11,130,858 traded in all market segments.
The JSE Market Index dipped 569.70 points to 95,589.22, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index slipped 636.67 points to 105,782.62 and the JSE combined index fell 543.24 points to end at 98,736.62.
IC bid-offer Indicator| At the end of trading, in the main and junior markets, the Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator had a reading of 13 stocks with bids higher than their last selling prices and 3 with offers that were lower.
