Berger & Scotia Group drop TOP 10

The two main markets of the Jamaica Stock Exchange, pulled back this past week as the volatility in the price of some stocks resulted in shifts in the position of some stocks in the TOP 10. Movements were not enough to change the Junior Market list, even as Caribbean Producers saw a 25 percent fall during the week with heavy volume, the stock enjoyed partial recovery by weekend.
This week’s pull back, seems to support the comment last week, “that both markets are trading close to recent resistance levels which could act as a short term restraint on upward movement.”
In the main market, decline in the prices of Seprod down to $30 and Sterling Investments to $15.50 moved them into the top list and replaced Berger Paints and Scotia Group that maintained their prices and are now some distance from the top list.
The average PE ratio for the Junior Market Top stocks is 7.5 and 6.8 in the main market, these compare favourably with 13.7 for the main market and 13.4 for Juniors, based on 2017 estimated earnings. With several stocks trading below the average, the potential for more gains for the rest of 2017 seems positive, barring any major negative developments.
Recent TOP 10 listings remain just below the top spots with Access Financial, Jetcon Corporation, AMG Packaging, Dolphin Cove, Caribbean Cream and Blue Power sitting just below, with potential gains of more than 100 percent and in the main market, Grace Kennedy and Sagicor Group are just below the Top spots with good potential gains ahead.
The history of the Top stock performance indicates that, it takes a few months for most of the stocks to reach potential targeted prices as they tend not to be the stocks favoured by a large segment of investors, in the short term.
At the close of the week, IC Insider.com’s TOP 10 Junior Market stocks now trade at an average discount of 44 percent to the Junior Market average, while those in the main market are trading at a 49 percent discount, to the average of the market, leaving several stocks with room for growth in the months ahead.
At the close of the week, bid volumes for junior market stocks remained relatively low ranging from a high of 66,436 units at $5.15 for Lasco Manufacturing with an offer of 16,685 units at $5.20, Access with a bid of 35,425 at $42.50, Caribbean Producers with 34,300 units on the bid at $3.50, with 100,000 shares on offer at $3.80. Key Insurance closed with 15,213 units on the bid at $2.90 and 51,361 offered at $3.80 and Lasco Financial ended the week with a bid of $4.05 to buy 24,000 units with 47,888 units being offered for sale at $4.40.
Seprod shares dropped from $45.10 in February to $30 on Friday.
Caribbean Cement had a bid to buy 54,903 units at $28.50 and offers of 7,850 shares at $29.95. Carreras had just 1,233 units on the bid at $77 with 4,954 shares being offered at $80, JMMB Group’s has bids to buy 8,272 units at $19.80 with an offer to sell 6,224 shares at $20, Radio Jamaica bid ended trading at $1.68 to buy 883 units with 30,000 units on offer at $1.79 while Scotia Investments closed the week with 14,753 units on the bid to buy at $36.50 and 14,049 units offered for sale at $37.85. Interest in Seprod has fallen with only 250 units on the bid at $29.50 and selling of 95,352 units at $30, this is way off from the 52 weeks’ high of $45 the stock sold at late February this year.
Trading improving for Jamaica stocks
The Jamaica Stock Exchnage main market fell on Friday with improved trading.
Trading levels hit rock bottom on the main market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange on Friday May 19, when less than 1 million units valued at a mere $11.8 million traded has been rebounding with this Friday’s level being the highest since Thursday last week. On Friday the value of traded stocks almost doubled that of Thursday this week.
Trading improved on the Monday with $31 million of trades but fell back on Wednesday to $27 million and picked up to $37 million on Thursday before moving higher on Friday. Trading levels in the main market ended at 4,417,748 units valued at $73,092,399 compared to 1,392,798 units valued at $37,103,714 at the close on Thursday. Trading in the US dollar market accounted for 56,375 units valued at US$17,199.
The All Jamaica Composite Index declined 1,094.79 points to close at 257,288.98 the JSE Market Index fell 997.48 points to finish at 234,419.39 and the JSE US dollar market index lost 1.69 points to close at 215.59.
The main market ended trading with an average of 152,336 units valued at $2,520,428 per security traded, compared to an average of 53,569 units valued at $1,427,066 on Tuesday. Pulse & ISP exit TOP 10 with big gains
I$P Finance hits a new high of $35 on Wednesday up 1,650% since listing last year March.
The Jamaica Stock Exchange, two main markets hit new highs on several days over the past two weeks, with new records created during this past week as well. Both markets are trading close to recent resistance levels which could act as a short term restraint on upward movement.
With the average PE ratio of the markets trading around 13 based on 2017 estimated earnings and several stocks trading below, it just a matter of time for prices and the markets to move higher.
Recent market activity has been characterized by some sizable swings in prices for a number of stocks, these movements have pushed some stocks in and out of the top list. Most companies released results for the 2017 first quarter, in some cases IC Insider.com has revised the earnings based on the latest information contained in the results.
Earnings have been up graded for Caribbean Producers to 60 cents, for the 2018 fiscal year, based on the nine months’ performance to March, with the March quarter results pointing the way forward with an 8 percent increase in revenues and lower selling and administrative cost. 
In the main market, Berger Paints’ 2018 fiscal year earnings per share was up graded to $2, based on a strong finish to the 2017 results. Pulse Investments announcement of a 2 for 1 stock split to be considered by the board subject to approval at a meeting of shareholders, helped push the price up to $14.40 from $8.05 and out of the Top list after entering in November last year at $4. Jetcon Corporation entered at $6.09 on January 6 and is now at $15 and out of the top listing. Main Event entered at $2 and is now at $7.25 and ISP Finance entered at $8.50 and last traded at $28.

NCB Financial Group closed at $71.99 with a loss of 1 cent, after trading 9,368 shares, 138 Student Living traded 21,500 shares at $4.49, Portland JSX Fund closed at $10.10 with 31,275 shares changing hands, Radio Jamaica closed at $1.70 after gaining 1 cent, trading 68,244 shares, Sagicor Group closed at $33.50 with trades of 97,466 shares, Sagicor Real Estate Fund gained 1 cents and closed at $11, while exchanging 75,128 units, Sterling Investments gained 15 cents in closing at $16.90 with 1,000 shares being swapped, Scotia Group closed at $42 after rising 49 cents with 30,044 units changing hands, Supreme Ventures rose 10 cents to close at $7.50 trading of 167,409 shares and Proven Investments closed at 29 US cents trading 32,400 ordinary shares.
Sagicor hammers JSE index – Thursday
Sagicor Group traded 2.2 million shares on Thursday & fell $3.49 in early trading.
Sagicor Group traded 2.275 million shares and fell $3.49 to $30.01 by mid-morning on Thursday and was the main contributor to the more than 3,600 points fall in the main market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange closed in the morning session. The price recovered to close back at the closing price of the previous day but the market closed with more losses with Mayberry Investments trading more than 10 million shares with a loss of 57 cents.
The market closed on Thursday with 29 securities changing hands with 3 trading in the US dollar market. At the close, 10 stocks advanced and 10 declined. Trading levels in the main market ended at 14,040,895 units valued at $147,385,397 compared to 2,068,486 units valued at $25,621,686 at the close on Wednesday. Trading in the US dollar market accounted for 12,880 units valued at US$3,794.
The All Jamaica Composite Index dived 4,312.28 points to close at 259,935.85 and the JSE Market Index sank 3,928.98 points to finish at 236,830.99. The JSE US dollar market index added 2.34 points to close at 221.11.

Jamaica Broilers fell $1 and closed at $19, with 38,394 shares changing owners, Jamaica Producers closed at $15.99, with an exchange of 234,241 shares and Jamaica Stock Exchange gained 30 cents to close at $7.80 trading 11,187 shares. JMMB Group closed at $20.50, gaining 49 cents with trades of 8,300 units, Kingston Properties added $1.10 to close at $16.60 exchanging 4,650 shares, as the stock is set to start trading ex split on Friday.Kingston Wharves traded 1 cent higher to close at $31.50, with an exchange of 30,958 units, Mayberry Investments lost 57 cents to close at $4.18, with 10,252,750 shares changing hands, NCB Financial Group closed at $72, after trading 35,485 shares, PanJam Investment closed at $35.61, gaining 6 cents with trades of 411,523 shares. 
Portland JSX traded 20 cents lower to close at $10.10 with 725 shares changing hands, Pulse Investments closed at $14.40 exchanging 1,000 shares, Radio Jamaica closed at $1.69 after gaining 3 cents and trading 193,574 shares, Sagicor Group closed at $33.50 after recovering from $30.01 earlier in the day with trades of 2,292,158 shares, Sagicor Real Estate fund closed at $10.99, losing 6 cents while exchanging 13,883 units, Salada Foods lost 15 cents in closing at $7.85 with 9,000 shares being exchanged, Scotia Group closed at $41.51, losing 49 cents with 28,375 units changing hands, Scotia Investments traded 1,500 shares at $37.85, Seprod closed at $34.50, with a loss of 50 cents exchanging 5,630 shares, Supreme Ventures lost 9 cents to close at $7.40 trading of 64,251 shares. Margaritaville Turks closed at 37 US cents, gaining 3 US cents with 730 units traded, Proven Investments closed at 29 US cents trading 12,150 ordinary shares, JMMB 7.5% preference share gained 23 cents and closed at $2.05, while exchanging 2,000 units and JMMB Group 7.25% preference share gained 1 cent to close at $1.31 with trades of 35,000 units.
Jamaican stock in big mid-morning drop
Sagicor Group traded 2.2 million shares on Thursday but the price fell $3.49.
Prices mostly retreated in mid-morning trading on Thursday on the Jamaica Stock Exchange main and Junior Market in early trading on Thursday.
The main market all Jamaica Composite index dropped by 3,661.69 points, at 10:45 AM the index hit 260,586.44 points and the main market index dived 3,336.22 to 237,423.75, the composite index fell 3,614.82 points to 254295.16 and the junior market Index dived 50.59 points to trade at 3,318.39.
In the Junior Market, Blue Power climbed to $45 from $39 with 1,000 shares but ISP Finance fell back to $30 from $35 with 3,476 shares trading. Caribbean Producers traded 1,300,064 units at $3.85 while Jetcon Corporation traded 152,103 units at $15 and Paramount Trading had 219,523 units changing hands at $3.05.
In the main market, Berger fell to $20 from $23.50, Jamaica Broilers traded down to $18, while Sagicor Group traded 2,274,978 shares down to $30.01 from $33.50.
