J$ continues to gain on Wednesday

The Jamaican dollar continues to made gains against the major currencies on Wednesday as purchases of all currencies by dealers ended at US$32,011,020 equivalent, compared with US$32,466,669, on Tuesday and selling of the equivalent of US$35,962,081 versus US$53,440,863 on the previous trading day.
FX sum 11-3-15 In US dollar trading, dealers bought US$30,387,092 compared to US$27,214,911 on Tuesday. The buying rate for the US dollar rose 2 cents to $114.98 and US$34,263,115 was sold versus US$50,104,155 on Tuesday, the selling rate fell 3 cents to end at $115.48 The Canadian dollar buying rate dropped 74 cents to $88.86 with dealers buying C$614,839 and selling C$537,751, at an average rate that advanced 36 cents to $91.42. The rate for buying the British Pound dipped $1.75 to $170.91 for the purchase of £694,383, while £517,462 was sold, at an average rate of $173.51, for a decline of 29 cents. At the end of trading it took J$123.68 to purchase the Euro, $1.62 less than on Tuesday , according to data from Bank of Jamaica, while dealers purchased the European common currency at J$121.24 for a decline of $1.64 from Tuesday . Other currencies bought, amounted to the equivalent of US$116,629 while the equivalent of US$495,771, was sold.

The Jamaican dollar made gains against all the major currencies on Monday. Purchases of all currencies by dealers ended at US$48,094,326 equivalent, compared with US$31,958,706, on Friday and selling of the equivalent of US$43,693,594 versus US$29,239,805 on the previous trading day.

The buying rate for the US dollar fell 6 cents to $115.02 and US$41,972,897 was sold versus US$26,162,679 on Friday, the selling rate fell 3 cents to end at $115.52 The Canadian dollar buying rate dropped 51 cents to $89.84 with dealers buying C$1,539,237 and selling C$773,159, at an average rate that declined 57 cents to $91.73. The rate for buying the British Pound dipped 20 cents to $173.83 for the purchase of £2,368,918, while £650,111 was sold, at an average rate of $174.14, for a decline of $1.28. At the end of trading it took J$125.51 to purchase the Euro, $1.97 less than on Friday, according to data from Bank of Jamaica, while dealers purchased the European common currency at J$123.12 for a decline of $1.91 from Friday. Other currencies bought, amounted to the equivalent of US$195,032 while the equivalent of US$126,841, was sold.

Only 14 stocks trade on Monday

Five securities account for the bulk of the stocks trading. The all Jamaica Composite index put on 351.23 to end at 91,183.19 and the JSE Index added 314.15 points to end at 82,702.20. Scotia Group closed at $22 after adding $1 and Grace Kennedy lost $1 to end at $61.

Gleaner Company accounted for the bulk of the shares trading with 8 million units while Sagicor Group and Scotia Group each accounted for more than 1 million units.

The Jamaican dollar gained value on Wednesday against the US Dollar and the British pound but declined versus the Canadian dollar. Purchases of all currencies by dealers fell sharply from the previous two days at US$36,518,886 compared with the US$51,807,330, on Tuesday and selling of the equivalent of US$38,523,072 versus US$55,758,481 on the prior trading day.
