Decliners beat up advancers – Friday

There are two offers with one at $24 to sell 15,150 units and one at $27 for 5,000 units. Cargo Handlers has six bids between $40 and $40.21 to buy just under 10,000 units, the last sale was at $39 and there are no stocks offered for sale.
In trading, AMG Packaging lost 50 cents while 4,186 units changed hands, to end at $20, CAC 2000 had 2,290 shares changing hands to close at $7 with, C2W traded 116,777 shares but lost 2 cents to end at 47 cents. Caribbean Cream lost 50 cents in trading 532,315 shares to close at $4.15 but traded as high as $.70, Caribbean Flavours ended with 5,980 units changing hands at $8.50, Caribbean Producers traded 99,351 units to close at $5.50, after declining by 45 cents. Consolidated Bakeries traded 55,000 units to close with a rise of 12 cents at $1.75, Dolphin Cove ended with 400 shares trading at $15.72, Honey Bun rose 28 cents as 20,000 units changed hands to end at a 52 weeks’ high of $12.08. Jamaican Teas rose 30 cents while trading 34,808 shares, to close at a 52 weeks’ high of $7.80, KLE Group ended at $2.75 with 23,471 units trading, Lasco Distributors closed with 92,821 units trading, but fell 34 cents to end at $7.50, Lasco Financial dropped 5 cents to $3 with 1,198,671 shares changing hands. Lasco Manufacturing ended trading with 349,779 shares and lost 5 cents to close at $4.94, Medical Disposables ended trading 100,000 units at $3.50 and tTech closed with a loss of 10 cents at $4.60 with 100,000 shares trading.
JSE make gains in early JSE trading
The Jamaica Stock Exchange got off to a positive start helped by a 20 cents jump in the price of Cable & Wireless to $1.60 with 3.7 million units changing hands after reporting a small profit in the December quarter of $144 million after exceptional charge of $334 million on rising revenues. A total of 28 securities traded up to 10.45am amounting to 4,944,412 shares.
After 75 minutes of trading JMMB Group jumped $2.25 to $14 for a new 52 weeks’ high with only 7,000 shares changing hands, Lasco Financial recovered 55 cents of the 96 cents loss it suffered on Thursday to now traded at $3.60 with 120,309 units traded, Honey Bun traded at a new high of $12.08 as 20,000 shares traded.
The all Jamaica Composite Index rose 651.58 points to 178,090.52, the JSE Market Index gained 583.04 points to 160,299.99, the JSE combined index climbed 636.39 points to 171,876.55 and the junior market index rose 9.59 points to 2,295.64.

The Composite Index fell 4.80 points to close at 1,156.93, the All T&T Index dropped by 14.60 points to close at 1,909.70 and the Cross Listed Index gained 0.70 points to close at 53.39.

At the close, there is a bid to buy 171,540 shares at $1.70 with no stock on offer.
Losses| Massy Holdings traded 150 shares as the price ended 2 cents lower to close at new 52 weeks’ low of $59.50, National Enterprises dropped $1.17 to a 52 weeks low of $14.80 while trading 300 shares and Trinidad Cement lost 19 cents to end at $3.50 as 7,414 units changed hands.
Firm Trades| Berger paints traded 75 units at $3.67, Grace Kennedy traded at $4.50 (J$84.60) with 100 units trading, Scotiabank closed with 30 shares changing hands to end at $59.99, Trinidad and Tobago NGL traded 43,900 units valued at $834,105 to close at $19 and Unilever Caribbean ended with 10 shares trading at $67.82.

Jamaican stocks in demand on TTSE
Shares of Jamaican based companies listed on the Trinidad & Tobago Stock Exchange are in good demand at the close of trading on Wednesday with three of them rising at the close. At the close Scotia Investments was quoted with the bid at $1.64 (J$30.90) to purchase 152,486 stock units while 13,711 units were on offer at $1.70 or J$32. The market closed with only 5 securities being active on Wednesday, after closing on Monday and Tuesday. A total of 3 stocks gained, 1 fell and 1 remained unchanged. A total of 89,702 shares changed hands valued at $319,137.
The Composite Index advanced by 1.60 points to close at 1,161.73, the All T&T Index advanced by 0.12 points to close at 1,924.30 and the Cross Listed Index gained 0.42 points to close at 52.69.

Slight US$ imbalance on Friday
Trading in the Jamaican foreign exchange market ended Friday with inflows and outflows once more almost matching each other, with dealers buying the equivalent of US$32,891,082 and selling US$31,317,005, in contrast with US$35,408,853 purchased and US$34,875,156 sold on Thursday.
In US dollars trading, dealers bought US$29,718,543 compared to US$31,462,644 on Thursday, with the buying rate for the US dollar falling 2 cents to $120.84. A total of US$30,451,008 was sold versus US$32,362,621 on Thursday as the selling rate rose 7 cents to $121.49. The Canadian dollar buying rate fell 36 cents to end at $85 with dealers buying C$1,129,977 and selling C$461,187, at an average rate that climbed by 1 cent to $86.89. The rate for buying the British Pound dipped $1.18 to $172.39 for the purchase of £1,083,530, while £292,137 was sold, with the rate being down $1.65 to $174.02. At the end of trading, the selling rate for Euro, ended with a rise of $1.52 to close at J$135.63, from Thursday’s rate, according to data from Bank of Jamaica, while dealers purchased the European common currency at J$132.98 for a rise of $1.67 from Thursday’s rate. The US dollar equivalent of other currencies traded, amounts to US$831,891 being bought, while US$117,715 was sold.
Highs & Lows| Notable changes to the highest and lowest rates the currencies traded at are, a fall of $1.91 in the lowest selling rate for the US dollar that ended at $93.20, the highest buying rate of the Canadian dollar rising $1.01 to $89.31 and lowest buying rate climbing $1.07 to $70.38 whilst the highest buying rate for the British Pound fell $1.20 to $177 with the highest selling falling by $1.48 to $180.09.

Lasco Distributors closed with 177,571 units trading at $7.80, Lasco Distributors reported a 50 percent jump in profit after tax of $592 million for the nine months to December last year, up from $197 million. Lasco Financial closed with a gain of 9 cents at $4.25 with 72,150 shares changing hands. Lasco Manufacturing ended trading with 444,466 shares to close at $5, earlier in the morning session the stock traded as low as $4.50. Medical Disposables closed at $3.55 with 8,700 shares trading, Paramount Trading fell by 29 cents to end with 2,333 shares changing hands at $11.20, tTech closed with a 10 cents gain at $4.75 with 15,000 shares trading and Derrimon Trading 11.75% preference share traded 12,000 units but gained 6 cents to $2.16.
