Jamaican stocks drop again – Wednesday
The Jamaica Stock Exchange main market indices on Wednesday gave up much more than they gained on Tuesday, with losses exceeding 2.3 percent compared to more than 1.90 percent gained on Tuesday. The all Jamaica Composite and the JSE index dropped more than 1,000 points on Wednesday.
A total of 37 securities changed hands, in all market segments with 14 stocks rising while 16 declined. Trading amounted to 6,525,627 units valued at $85,157,957 changing hands, in all markets, the junior market accounting for 1,448,567 units valued at $4,853,764.
The JSE Market Index declined 1,043.10 points to end at 149,006.90, the all Jamaica Composite Index fell 1,166.58 points to 165,475 and the JSE combined index dropped 699.90 points, to close at 157,519.32.
IC bid-offer Indicator| At the end of trading, in the main and junior markets, the Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator reading showed 8 stocks with bids higher than their last selling prices and 4 with lower offers.
At the end of market activities, Barita added 42 cents with just 3,000 units changing hands to end at $3.72, Berger Paints closed at $4 after trading 26,000 shares with a gain of 50 cents, Cable & Wireless rose by 2 cents to close at $1.28, in trading 40,000 units. Caribbean Cement fell $1.89 to close at $19.11 with 3,075,900 shares changing hands, Carreras ended trading with 18,790 shares, to close at $66, Ciboney traded 461,143 shares but shed 2 cents to end at 13 cents, Grace lost 42 cents to close at $81.10 with 142,927 shares trading. Jamaica Broilers had 30,865 units changing hands, to close with a loss of 80 cents at $13.70. Jamaica Producers ended at $32 while trading 105,600 shares, JMMB Group had 22,971 shares changing hands with a loss of 38 cents to end at $9.60, Margaritaville Turks traded 138,798 shares to close at 16.5 US cents after falling 97 cents, National Commercial Bank had 8,594 shares changing hands to close at $40. Pan Jamaican Investments traded 11,500 units at $90, Radio Jamaica rose 1 cents as 710,157 shares were traded to close at $1.15, Sagicor Group fell 50 cents in ending with 854 shares changing hands to close at $22.50. Scotia Group traded just 486 shares to close at $30.30 after falling 75 cents, Supreme Ventures rose 5 cents with 11,000 shares trading to end at $5.10, Proven Investmenst closed at 17 US cents while trading 108,862 shares, and the JMMB 7.50% preference share, traded 92,200 units with a loss of 1 cent at $1.05, a 52 weeks’ low.
JSE enjoys solid gains – Friday
Trading Friday on the Jamaica Stock Exchange saw a number of large volumes going through the market but with negligible impact on prices. A total of 41 securities changed hands, in all market segments with 14 stocks rising and 10 declining. Trading accounted for 6,587,288 units valued at $120,406,344 changing hands in all markets with the junior market accounting for 430,780 units valued at $1,515,398.
The JSE Market Index gained 627.74 points to end at 150,211.24, the all Jamaica Composite Index rose 702.06 points to 167,524.84 and the JSE combined index gained 868.01 points, to close at 158,930.91.

At the end of market activities, Cable & Wireless rose 5 cents to close at $1.31, in trading 476,886 units. Caribbean Cement jumped $3.90 to close at $23.40 with 3,282 shares changing hands, Carreras fell 50 cents to end trading with 4,715 shares, to close at $65.50, Jamaica Producers traded a large volume, with 2,139,600 units changing hands, up from 1,500,000 units on Thursday, the price climbed $1, to close at $33 on Friday. JMMB Group had 13,805 shares changing hands with a rise of 14 cents to end at $9.89, Kingston Wharves traded 14,595 shares at $11.50. Mayberry Investments lost 40 cents to close at $3.60 with 17,795 units changing hands. National Commercial Bank rose 28 cents with 163,716 shares changing hands to close at $40.48. Radio Jamaica traded 303,827 shares to close with a gain of 4 cents at $1.17, Sagicor Group shed $1 in ending with 1,156,805 shares changing hands to close at $23, this after 1,238,798 units were traded on Thursday. Scotia Group traded 303,949 shares to close at $30, Supreme Ventures had 91,289 shares changing hands at $5.10, Proven Investments ordinary shares traded 107,662 units to end at 16 US cents and the Jamaica Money Market Brokers 7.50% preference share, traded 1,331,340 units at $2.15.
JSE Majors down again on Wednesday
The main indices of the Jamaica Stock Exchange fell again on Wednesday with 40 securities changing hands, in all market segments and ended with 13 stocks rising and 20 declining. Trading accounted for 7,303,091 units valued at $119,963,779 changing hands in all markets with the junior market accounting for 898,831 units valued at $4,498,985 changing hands.
The JSE Market Index suffered a loss of 587.05 points to end at 149,350.58, the all Jamaica Composite Index fell 656.54 points to 165,860.26 and the JSE combined index declined 530.26 points, to close at 157,213.08.

Caribbean Cement dropped $2.61 to close at $19.89 with 1,335,571 shares changing hands Carreras ended trading only 66,741 shares to end $1 lower at $65, Ciboney gained 4 cents to close at 21 cents with 74,000 shares changing hands, Grace Kennedy lost $1 and closed with 41,858 shares changing hands at $80. Jamaica Broilers traded 27,750 units to close at $14.50. Jamaica Stock Exchange traded 13,110 shares but lost 50 cents to end at $19, JMMB Group had 10,352 shares changing hands at $9.75 after easing by 25 cents, National Commercial Bank fell by 4 cents with 1,817,770 shares changing hands to close at $40.01. Pan Jamaican Investment traded 17,626 shares to close at $90, Sagicor Group ended with 13,200 shares changing hands at $23. Scotia Group traded 8,700 shares to close with a gain of 50 cent at $30, Supreme Ventures gained 50 cents to close at $5.50 with 30,000 units changing hands, Proven Investments ordinary shares traded 62,418 units to end at 16 US cents and the JMMB Group 7.50% preference share fell 13 cents in trading 1,611,098 units at $1.07.
