JSE gains with 9 stocks at 52 weeks’ high

Cable & Wireless HQ – the stock traded at a new 52 weeks’ high on Thursday & on Friday.

The Jamaica Stock Exchange closed on Friday with 24 stocks rising, 6 declining as 39 securities, totalling 3,992,906 units valued at $54,025,781 changed hands, in all market segments. A total of 9 stocks ended at 52 weeks’ closing highs as the market closes on a another record for the all Jamaica Index.
The JSE Market Index shot up 952.69 points to 123,979.42, a new closing high. The JSE All Jamaican Composite index gained 1,064.69 to end at 137,510.28 and is 1,400 points away from the old record of 138,917.59 set on 24th of January 2005 and the JSE combined index climbed 1,055.98, points to end at a new closing high of 128,758.68.
IC bid-offer Indicator| At the end of trading, in the main and junior markets, the Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator had a reading of 13 stocks with bids higher than their last selling prices and 2 with offers that were lower.
In trading, Cable and Wireless closed with a gain of 15 cents as with only 5,850 shares changed hands to end at 52 weeks’ high of 82 cents. Trading in the stock was suspended for an hour as the trade was executed at a price in excess of 15 per cent from the closing price on Thursday. Attempts were made to trade as high as $1 but those trades were cancelled, being over maximum 30 percent from the opening price permitted. Investors were responding to the news that Liberty Global Media planned on making a bid to acquire Cable and Wireless’ parent company. The stock closed with over 5.1 million shares on the bid at 82 cents and three offers amounting to 40,000 shares between $1.20 and $1.70 and at 2.66 million units at $3.75.

Caribbean Cement gained 82 cents to end at $15 for a new 52 weeks’ closing high, with 68,800 shares changing hands. The company reported earnings of 72 cents for the September quarter and $1.75 for the nine months and should enjoy another week of gains come next week. Cement closed with only three lots being offered amounting to 83,500 shares between $16.50 and $17. Carreras traded 242,083 shares to end at $52, Desnoes & Geddes had 177,539 units changing hands to close at $30, Grace Kennedy exchanged 1,621 shares at $65.10 and gained 35 cents, Jamaica Broilers added 70 cents in trading 625,083 shares to close at a 52 weeks’ high of $8.50. Jamaica Stock Exchange had 10,000 shares trading at $9.15 while the price rose 45 cents for a 52 weeks’ high, JMMB Group lost 10 cents in trading 220,241 shares to close at $9.90. Kingston Wharves traded 32,278 shares to close at $9, Mayberry Investments traded 17,435 shares and gained 14 cents to end at $3, National Commercial Bank closed with a gain of $1 with 290,955 shares trading to end at $32.

Pan Jamaican price jumped $2 in trading 95,000 shares to end at a 52 weeks’ high of $75, Sagicor Group with 73,795 shares closed 25 cents up, to $14.50. Sagicor Real Estate Fund traded 5,000 units but the price gained 5 cents to close at $8.15 and closed with a bid to buy 100,000 units at $9.20 and with only two offers posted with one at $10 to sell 16,000 units and 19,000 at $11, Scotia Group ended with 48,410 shares trading at $24.76 after falling 25 cents. Scotia Investments ended with 5,290 shares trading at $27 after adding $1, Supreme Ventures ended at $3.90 with 205,516 units changing hands. Jamaica Money Market Brokers 7.50% preference share traded 324,850 units at $2 and Proven Investments preference share traded 179,500 units and gained 5 cents to end at of $5.05.

JSE closing on record for Jamaican stocks

The Jamaica Stock Exchange closed on Thursday with the All Jamaican Index just under 2,500 points away from the old record 138,917.59 reached on 24th of January 2005.
By the close 4 stocks ended trading, at 52 weeks’ closing highs and Desnoes and Geddes traded during the day at intraday high of $30.25. A total of 14 stocks rose, with 10 declined as 29 securities, totalling 5,416,421 units valued at $103,069,379 changed hands, in all market segments. The JSE Market Index shot up 355.39 points to 123,026.73, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index gained 397.16 to end at 136,445.59 and the JSE combined index climbed 435.35, points to end at a new high of 127,702.70.

Kingston Wharves traded 13,300 shares to close at $9, National Commercial Bank closed with a loss of 60 cents with 259,300 shares trading to end at $31. Pan Jamaican price jumped $2 in trading 20,000 shares to end at a 52 weeks’ high of $72, Radio Jamaica traded 55,799 units but the price fell 50 cents to close at $3.50, Scotia Group ended with 61,695 shares trading at $25 after falling $1. Scotia Investments ended with 20,000 shares trading at $26, Proven Investments ordinary share traded 170,644 units with a loss of 0.50 cent to end at of 24.5 US cents and Supreme Ventures gained 15 cents and ended at $3.90 with 372,698 units changing hands.

JSE gained 13% for week

The Jamaica Stock Exchange closed on Friday with an increase of 2,717.47 points, on the JSE All Jamaican Composite index to end at 133,725.27, to cap the week with a huge 13 percent increase. The sharp move is due to the price of Desnoes and Geddes (D&G) jumping with a gain of 130 percent to add several thousand points, to the main market indices. The All Jamaican Index is now just over 5,000 points away from the old record of 138,917.59, reached on 24th of January 2005.
A total of 16 stocks rose, with 3 declining as 23 securities, totaling 2,743,449 units valued at $51,084,948 changing hands, in all market segments. A total of 4 stocks ended at new 52 weeks’ closing highs. The JSE Market Index shot up by 2,431.62 points to 120,592.56, and the JSE combined index jumped 2,568.39 points to end at 125,132.75.

JSE records huge gain on Wednesday

D&G gained $10.77 to push JSE index with all-time record gain

The Jamaica stock exchange closed trading on Wednesday with a record gain of 9,714.07 points on the JSE All Jamaican Composite index to 127,268.87 as Desnoes and Geddes share shot up by $10.77, to end at a record $25.80 with 61,276 unitss trading. The previous one day record increase, was on Friday October 9, with a 7,697.11 point gain.
The stock exchange main market is now 11,648.72 points or 8 percent away from the record close of 138,917.59 reached on 24th of January 2005. A total of 23 stocks rose, with 3 declining as 36 securities, totalling 11,897,638 units valued at $70,427,255 changing hands, in all market segments. 1 junior market and 2 main market stocks ending at new 52 weeks’ closing highs, 1 trading at a 52 weeks’ intraday high and one closed at an all-time low. The JSE Market Index shot up by 8,692.24 points to 114,815.31, and the JSE combined index jumped 7,728.74 points to end at 119,161.07.

Sagicor Real Estate Fund tops trading on JSE

Sagicor Real Estate Fund traded 12,553,254 units days after the company reported a successful rights issue that raised $5.2 billion. Most trading took place at $6.95, in shares crossed by Scotia Investments as brokers for clients. The stock price ended at $7.50 at the close, after losing 50 cents.
Market activity generally, on the Jamaica Stock Exchange ended with just 31 securities changing hands as 19,174,117 units, valued at $129,515,704 were exchanged. Sagicor Real Estate Fund accounted for a large portion of the monetary consideration. Seprod also chipped in with a fair amount. At the end, 8 stocks gained, compared to 11 that declined in all market segments. Slow trading on JSE Friday

Trading activities on the Jamaica Stock Exchange has been slow in the early morning session with few trades of significant volumes. The market has so far have trading in 21 securities with a volume of 4,065,693 units, with 6 stocks declining and 5 rising.
Trading activity resulted the JSE Market Index rising 102.04 points to 98,900.09. The JSE All Jamaican Composite index gained 114.03 points to 109,482.70 and the JSE combined index rose 55.04 points to be at 102,166.69. The junior market slipped 4.63 points to 984.39
The main trades so far are Cable & Wireless with 1,700,000 units at 48 cents, Seprod traded 1,813,740 at $14 while losing 60 cents, Proven Investments 86,890 units trading was at 19.9 US cents. In the junior market Lasco Distributors with 253,000 units at $1.85 and Eppley preference Shares 2019 traded 103,836 units at $6.05.

Declining stocks clobber advancers on JSE

VMBS Wealth acquired the bulk of shares trading in connection with the pension funds they manage.

The Jamaica Stock Exchange on Wednesday closed with main market indices dropping, with declining stocks far exceeding advancing ones. The market closed with a fairly high participation rate of 38 securities changing hands, resulting in 33,498,729 units trading, valued at $379,007,378 with only 6 stocks rising, 19 declining, in all market segments. The big jump in the level of trading took place with a switch in ownership to VMBS Wealth of the pension fund portfolio in stocks.
At the close, the JSE Market Index fell 262.83 points to 98,086.58. The JSE All Jamaican Composite index lost 293.77 points to close at 108,573.44 and the JSE combined index dropped 272.27 points to end at 100,777.77.

IC bid-offer Indicator| At the end of trading, in the main and junior markets, the Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator had a reading that reflects continuation of declining stocks having the upper hand over advancing ones. There was slightly less bias to the downside, than at the close of trading on Tuesday, with Wednesday’s reading of 7 stocks with bids higher than their last selling prices and 9 with offers that were lower.
In trading, Cable and Wireless fell 1 cent with 110,387 units and closed at 42 cents, Caribbean Cement had 54,911 units changing hands at $8, Carreras closed with 1,149,666 shares trading 50 cents lower at $49.49, with the bulk of the shares being a product of the VMBS Wealth pension portfolio shift. Grace Kennedy closed with 1,400,261 shares trading $64, Jamaica Broilers traded at $7 with just 1,000 shares changing hands, with a gain of $1.40. Jamaica Stock Exchange traded 2,105,142 shares at $7.89, JMMB Group traded 8,582,455 shares, including shares associated with the VMBS Wealth pension fund change, to close at $7.52, Kingston Properties had 664,191 shares trading for a fall of $1.01 to end at $6.99, National Commercial Bank traded 569,187 shares to end with a decline of 73 cents at $28.02.

Pan Jamaican fell 25 cents to end at $61 with 802,473 units changing hands, Radio Jamaica traded 37,900 shares unchanged at $3.01, Sagicor Group with 2,973,500 shares changing hands, closed 5 cents higher at $13. Scotia Group traded 198,010 units to close with a loss of 60 cents at $23.76, Scotia Investments traded 440,000 shares to close at $27.69 for a fall of 1 cent, Supreme Ventures ended at $3.40 with 13,828 units to be down by 40 cents and Jamaica Money Market Brokers 8.75% preference share traded 100,000 units to close at a 52 weeks’ low of $2.94, for a loss of 4 cents.
