More retreat for JSE on Thursday
A total of 2,801,152 units valued at $40,035,868 changed hands in all markets. The junior market accounted for 876,572 units changing hands, valued at $3,718,863.
The JSE Market Index dived 913.83 points to 157,322.61 the all Jamaica Composite Index dropped 1,021.27 points to end at 174,773.18 and the JSE combined index dumped by 972.44 points to close at 168,580.74.

At the end of the market activities, Barita Investments ended with 119,000 units traded to close at $4.60, Berger Paints rose 20 cents to end at $4.70, with 13,950 units traded, Cable and Wireless closed with 58,929 units changing hands, with a loss of 1 cent at $1.59. Caribbean Cement jumped 50 cents to close at $30.50 with 11,868 shares changing hands, Carreras jumped $1.30 to close at $67, to end at a 52 weeks’ high while trading 150,641 units, Gleaner traded 57,510 shares but rose 5 cents to $2.50, Grace Kennedy ended with 2,449 shares trading to close at $82.25 after dropping 75 cents. Jamaica Broilers fell 75 cents with 244,239 units to close at $13.75, Jamaica Stock Exchange ended with 210,710 shares trading but lost 5 cents to close at $21.95, JMMB Group dropped 25 cents in trading 38,315 units at $11. Kingston Wharves had 5,900 shares trading at $11.40, Mayberry Investments traded 16,800 units to close at $4.80 for a rise of 30 cents, National Commercial Bank traded 45,262 shares to close at $40.30 after declining by $1.20, while 138 Students Living traded 146,285 shares with a fall of 10 cents to end at $5.60. Proven Investments traded 32,164 shares at 20 US cents, Radio Jamaica traded 17,651 units but fell 5 cents to $4.60, Sagicor Group fell 82 cents with 15,459 shares changing hands at $22.11, Scotia Group had 177,068 shares changing hands to close with a gain of 99 cents to end at $33. Scotia Investments had 1,200 units changing hands at $27 after dropping $3. Seprod closed at $22, with 104,200 shares trading, Supreme Ventures fell 10 cents to close at $5.90 with 48,200 units changing hands, Jamaica Money Market Brokers 7.50% preference share traded 66,900 at $2.15 and Proven Investments preference share traded 502,476 units at $5.
JSE retreated again on Wednesday

The JSE Market Index dived 934.62 points to 158,236.44 the all Jamaica Composite Index dropped 1,044.48 points to end at 175,794.45 and the JSE combined index dipped by 1,117.25 points to close at 169,553.18.

At the end of the market activities, Berger Paints fell 30 cents to end at $4.50, with 37,301 units traded, Cable and Wireless close with 178,301 units changing hands at $1.60, Caribbean Cement jumped $3.40 to close at $30 with 83,508 shares changing hands. Carreras gained of 70 cents to close at $65.70, to end at a 52 weeks’ high while trading 245,117 units, Desnoes & Geddes traded 76,000 shares but lost 2 cents to $22.85, Grace Kennedy ended with 3,269 share trading to close at $83, Jamaica Broilers had 72,174 shares trading with a rise of 50 cents to end at $14. Jamaica Stock Exchange ended with 3,000 shares trading but lost 50 cents to close at $22, JMMB Group dropped 75 cents in trading 94,905 units at $11.25, Kingston Wharves had 38,100 shares trading at $11.40, Mayberry Investments traded 26,020 units to close at $4.50. National Commercial Bank traded 183,199 shares to close at $40 after rising by $1.50, while 138 Students Living traded 354,615 shares with a rise of 20 cent to end at $5.70, Pan Jamaican Investment traded only 334 units with a rise of $1.45 to end at $96. Scotia Group had 173,359 shares changing hands to close with a fall of $1.99 to end at $32.01, Scotia Investments had 6,000 units changing hands at $30 after jumping $3.45. Seprod closed at $22, with 33,153 shares trading, Supreme Ventures rose 10 cents to close at $6 with 138,588 units changing hands and Jamaica Money Market Brokers 7.50% preference share traded 66,900 at $2.15.
JSE down sharply in early trading
The Jamaica Stock Exchange got to a moderate start with prices being on the soft side, following Tuesday’s large number of declines. The market indices all slipped between 1.21 percent for the JSS index to 1.23 percent for the juniors after 75 minutes of trading.
A total of 7 stocks fell and only 8 rose as 30 securities have been active with just 621,780 units changing hands.
National Commercial has not yet traded but seems heavy, with offers at $39.50, below Tuesday’s last traded price of $40, while Scotia Group fell from $34 to $32. AMG Packaging fell from $19.15 to $18 after the stock traded as high as $21.50 last week on low volume and Lasco Distributors declined from $7.79 to $7.35.
The all Jamaica Composite Index dropped 2,151.91 points to 174,687.02, the JSE Market Index lost 1,925.55 points to 157,245.51, the JSE combined index fell 2,069.78 points to 168,600.65 and the junior market index dropped 28.13 points to 2,250.89.
C&W, Pan Jam dominant plays – Friday
Trading resulted 38 securities trading, 16 of which gained and 14 declined. Six stocks closed at 52 weeks’ highs and 3 at intraday highs as 11,326,742 units valued at $259,795,288 changed hands in all markets. The junior market accounted for 2,619,072 units changed hands, valued at $10,651,233.
The JSE Market Index fell 412.90 points to 159,295.05 the all Jamaica Composite Index dropped 461.44 points to end at 176,977.50 and the JSE combined index declined 553.68 points to close at 170,686.48.

Jamaica Broilers traded 406,083 units and gained $1.45 to $14.95, JMMB Group jumped $1.95 in trading 8,350 units to end at 52 weeks’ high of $13.70. Kingston Wharves rose 26 cents with 10,545 units changing hands at $11.45, Margaritaville Turks had 30,900 shares trading at a 52 weeks’ high of 15 US cents, Mayberry Investments gained 30 cents to close at $5 with 130,126 units traded, National Commercial Bank traded 347,478 shares to close at $41.50. Pulse Investments traded 5,000 shares to end at a 52 weeks’ high of $4.65 after rising by 45 cents, Sagicor Group rose 5 cents and closed at $23.05 with 370,399 units changing hands. Sagicor Real Estate Fund gained 20 cents to close at $12 while trading 10,023 shares, Scotia Group had 231,306 shares changing hands with a loss of $2.50 to close at $31.50. Scotia Investments had 14,374 units changing hands at $29, Supreme Ventures lost 45 cents to close at $5.75, with 511,615 units changing hands, Proven Investments ordinary share traded at 22 US cents with 34,100 units and JMMB 7.50% preference share traded 89,573 units to close at $2.15.
Market fell on Thursday
The JSE Market Index fell 608.92 points to 159,707.95 the all Jamaica Composite Index lost 680.50 points to end at 177,438.94 and the JSE combined index declined 667.38 points to close at 171,240.16.

At the end of the market activities, Barita Investments ended with 5,478 units traded for 3 cents lower to close at $4.75, Berger Paints rose 58 cents to end at $5.08 at 52 weeks’ high, with 100,764 units traded. Cable and Wireless dropped 14 cents to close at $1.40 with 803,782 units trading. The company reported a profit of $144 million in the December quarter after accounting for an exceptional charge of $334 million and for the nine months losses were down sharply from $1.8 billion to $644 million after an exceptional charge of $504 million. Caribbean Cement fell 1 cent to close at $27.99 with 35,992 shares changing hands. Gleaner Company traded 1,998,200 shares to close at $2.40, Grace Kennedy closed at $84 with 1,500 units changing hands. Jamaica Broilers Group traded 45,584 units but dropped $1 to $13.50, JMMB Group traded 6,875,563 units but fell 15 cents to end at $11.75. Kingston Wharves rose 19 cents with 13,848 units changing hands at $11.19, Margaritaville Turks had 180,290 shares trading at 14 US cents, National Commercial Bank traded 114,437 shares and fell 50 cents to close at $41.50. Pulse Investments traded 230,500 shares to end at a 52 weeks’ high of $4.20 after rising by 10 cents after it traded earlier in the day at $4.80, Sagicor Group closed at $23 with 164,051 units changing hands. Sagicor Real Estate Fund fell 20 cents to close at $11.80 while trading 65,892 shares, after it traded at an intraday high of $12.05. Scotia Group had 157,488 shares changing hands to close at $34, Scotia Investments had 36,067 units changing hands at $29, Seprod added 100 units and jumped $1 in ending at $22. Supreme Ventures lost 10 cents to close at $6.20, with 85,982 units changing hands, but traded earlier, at an intraday high of $7 and JMMB 7.50% preference share traded 603,733 units with a gain of 3 cents to close at $2.15.
Big gains in early JSE trading
The Jamaica Stock Exchange got off to a rousing start to make a big recovery from the two previous days of big losses in the main market indices with the all Jamaica index rising over 2,900 points. The junior market index rose by 18 points in the process and a number of stocks traded at new highs as the bullishness of the market continues apace.
After 75 minutes of trading Jamaican Teas traded 33,948 shares up to $6.85 for a new all-time high, also trading at new 52 weeks’ highs are Berger Paints with 18,250 units at $4.90, Pulse Investments traded 13,268 units at a new high of $4.50 and Seprod with 11624 units at $22. Trading resulted in 37 securities being active amounting to 1,561,289 units as 18 stocks recorded gains and 5 declined.
Big gains were recorded by Grace Kennedy up by $2 to $85, National Commercial Bank up by $2 to $43, Pan Jam Investment with a gain of $1.50 to $97.50 but with Scotia Group dropping to $3 from $34.
The all Jamaica Composite Index rose 2,929.63 points to 179,434.40, the JSE Market Index jumped 2,618.78 points to 161,493.51, the JSE combined index gained 2,635.56 points to 173,219.49 and the junior market index rose 18.41 points to 2,318.79 as this market continues to make recovery from recent declines.
