Bulls take over JSE with 6 new highs

Seprod traded at 52 weeks’ high on Thursday at $16

The number of stocks participating in trading on the Jamaica Stock Exchange widened to 27 on Thursday, from 23 on Wednesday. A total of 1,257,808 units changed hands, valued at just $10,579,864, resulting in the prices of 14 stocks rising, with 6 hitting 52 weeks’ highs. There were 7 declining stocks, in all market segments.
Stocks closing at 52 weeks’ high on Thursday are Carreras, Knutsford Express from the junior market, National Commercial Bank, Seprod, Supreme Ventures and Jamaica Money Market Brokers 7.50% preference share.
Main Market| The JSE Market Index gained 346.41 points to 86,646.17, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index rose 387.31 points to close at 95,592.74 and the JSE combined index gained 412.97 points to 88,407.34.

IC bid-offer Indicator| At the end of trading, in the main and junior markets, the Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator shows 11 stocks with bids higher than their last selling prices and just 2 with offers that were lower.
In market activity, Cable & Wireless traded 123,000 shares, in closing at 52 cents, after trading as high as 54 cents. Caribbean Cement had 46,061 units trading, to gain 25 cents in ending at $2.50, Carreras traded only 15,934 shares between $43 and the last traded price of $45.05, in posting a gain of $1.05. Grace Kennedy’s price fell 80 cents, while trading 5,801 shares at $62.20, Jamaica Producers had 173,904 units trading at $16.80 for a gain of 84 cents but had 1,569,027 shares on the bid at $16, at the close. National Commercial Bank put through only 25,149 units between $26.01 and the closing price of $26.70 with an increase of 20 cents. The banking group reported improved results in the quarter of $1.32 versus $1.24 per share in March 2014. Pan Jamaican Investment gained 37 cents in trading 9,054 shares at $55.50 but traded as low as $55.19. Radio Jamaica lost 25 cents in trading just 1,000 shares at $1.75,Sagicor Group posted 65,992 shares to end at $10.57 and gain just 2 cents. Scotia Group swapped

48,477 shares to close at $22, after trading at $22.50, Scotia Investments had 10,000 shares changing hands at $23.80, for an increase of 20 cents. Seprod put on $1.93 but with a mere 200 shares to end at $16, Supreme Ventures had the ownership of 51,600 units changing to close with a gain of 11 cents at $2.95. Proven Investments had 77,330 shares trading to close at 17.5 US cents but traded as high as 17.99 US cents, Jamaica Money Market Brokers 7.50% preference share traded 227,950 units at $2.30 and gained 28 cents or 14 percent, which is indicative of what now happening to interest rates, that have been declining from April last year, and Jamaica Money Market Brokers 8.75% preference share traded 174,738 units at $3.20.

Activity on the Jamaica Stock Exchange, resulted in the prices of 6 stocks rising, 8 declining as 19 securities changed hands, ending in 2,545,551 units trading, valued at $13,385,867, in all market segments.
Main Market| The JSE Market Index gained just 28.96 points to 84,837.26, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index rose 32.38 points to close at 93,570.30 and the JSE combined index gained 40.13 points to close at 86,628.32.
IC bid-offer Indicator| At the end of trading, in the main and junior markets, the Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator was flashing strong signals of rising prices ahead, with 15 stocks having bids higher than their last selling prices and only 2 with offers that were lower. In trading on the main market, Cable & Wireless traded 556,317 units at 50 cents to gain a cent at the close, Jamaica Producers had 508,889 shares changing hands to close at $16, after trading down at $15.96, at the close there was buying interest in 496,095 shares at $15.96. National Commercial Bank traded just 15,300 shares to close at $25.26 for a 24 cents decline, but there is 137,000 units on the bid to buy at $25.26, Sagicor Group had just 54,877 units changing hands at $10.40 and Scotia Group traded 16,788 at $21.95 to decline by 55 cents, with 192,864 units on the bid at $21.92. Radio Jamaica did not traded but ended with a bid to buy 200,000 at $1.50, with the lowest offer being 48,000 units at $2 and the next, 15,100 units at $3.

JPG traded 5 million shares but the price dropped $1.50

Jamaica Producers, Sagicor Group and National Commercial Bank dominated trading on the Jamaica Stock Exchange on Friday with a combined total of 8.45 million shares. Elsewhere, activity on the Exchange, resulted in the prices of 5 stocks rising, 7 declining as 18 securities changed hands, ending in 9,746,193 units trading, valued at $155,262,211, in all market segments.
Main Market| At the close the JSE Market Index gained 717.53 points to 85,620.15, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index rose index 802.23 points to close at 94,445.60 and the JSE combined index gained 674.14 points to close at 87,355.58.

IC bid-offer Indicator| At the end of trading, in the main and junior markets, the Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator shows 13 stocks with bids higher than their last selling prices and 3 with offers that were lower.
Jamaica Producers traded 5,003,044 shares and lost $1.50 to end at $17 with 5 million units being bought by Stocks and Securities on behalf of clients, the selling broker was Proven Investments. Sagicor Group traded 2,288,352 shares, between $10.45 and $10.50 but closed at $10.50 for a small gain, National Commercial Bank had 1,167,359 units changing hands to close at $25.50. Carreras traded 101,583 units at $43 and suffered a lost $1.05, Scotia Group traded 244,951 shares, between $22 and $22.50 before settling at $22.05 for a loss of 45 cents and

Proven Investments finished with 201,102 shares at 18 US cents.
Desnoes & Geddes traded just 1,700 shares to close at a 52 weeks’ high of $5.55 by posting a 5 cents gain. Grace Kennedy traded 3,850 shares at $65 for new 52 weeks’ highs and Supreme Ventures with 20,435 traded as high as $2.95, a new intraday 52 weeks’ high but ended down, at the close at $2.31 after shedding 49 cents from Thursday’s last price and Barita Investments suffered a fall of 27 cents to $1.95 for a new 52 weeks low. Proven 8% preference share traded 13,260 units to close at $5.05 after dropping 45 cents.

Obama’s visit affected trading Thursday

On Thursday, with more than one and a half hours of opening, only two stocks traded on the Jamaica Stock Exchange, reflecting some of the business interruptions that attended the USA President’s short visit to the Jamaica.
Trading picked up somewhat after but never got to a robust levels, resulting in the prices of 8 stocks rising, 4 declining as 20 securities changed hands, ending in 790,398 units trading, valued at $4,636,761, in all market segments.
Main Market| The JSE Market Index lost 262.35 points to 84,902.62, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index fell 293.32 points to close at 93,643.37 and the JSE combined index dropped 231.14 points to close at 86,681.44 as trading closed with three stocks closing at 52 weeks’ high.
IC bid-offer Indicator| At the end of trading, in the main and junior markets, the Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator shows 14 stocks with bids higher than their last selling prices and 5 with offers that were lower.
National Commercial Bank traded up to $25.50 with a gain of 50 cents with 91,911 units changing hands, there were 673,941 shares on offer at $25.50 with buying for 32,402 units at $25.01. Jamaica Producers put on $1.50 to end at $18.50 but with just 2,000 shares trading. IC Insider Buy Rated RJR closed at a new 52 weeks’ high of $2 with 190,399 shares as the price puts on 50 cents and Supreme Ventures is also at a new 52 weeks high of $2.80, up 50 cents but with 30,000 shares trading. Sagicor X Fund was down by 40 cents to $6.50 as increased selling is overwhelming demand, trading accounted for 50,000 units but still left 1.4 million units on offer for sale at $6.90 with bids in to buy only 111,053 units at $6.50. Scotia Group traded 26,721 between $21.56 and $22.50, Jamaica Money Market Brokers 8.75% preference share traded 134,000 shares to gain 10 cents and closed at a 52 weeks’ high of $3.20.

Trading picks up on JSE after 11am

Trading picked up on the Jamaica Stock Exchange after the very slow start up to 11am on Thursday with 18 securities trading resulting in 733,909 units changing hands. The junior market had only 2 securities trading while the US market had one.
The all Jamaica Composite Index had once more climbed back well above the 94,000 mark but a fall in Scotia fell by $1 to $21.56 and then back to $22.50 on small volume, but not even the $1.50 rise in Jamaica Producers to $18.50 could stave off 293.32 points to reach 93,643.37 while the main market index slipped 262.35 points to 84,902.62. The junior market index rose 0.33 points to 731.31.
IC Insider Buy Rated RJR closed at a new 52 weeks high of $2 with just over 190,000 shares as the price puts on 50 cents and Supreme Ventures is also at a new 52 weeks high of $2.80, up 50 cents but with 30,000 shares trading. Sagicor X Fund was down by 40 cents to $6.50 as increased selling is over whelming demand.

Carreras up $2.54 close to pre-taxed price

Carreras gained $2.54 in reach of recent highs

Wednesday’s activity on the Jamaica Stock Exchange, Carreras stock price jumped $2.54 on small volume as the stock price has adjusted back to levels that it was trading at prior to the recent tax hike on cigarettes. There was more activity on the market than on Tuesday, resulting in the prices of 11 stocks rising, 6 declining as 25 securities changed hands, ending in 2,962,954 units trading, valued at $13,940,525, in all market segments.
Main Market| The JSE Market Index gained 195.37 points to 85,164.97, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index rose 218.43 points to close at 93,936.69 and the JSE combined index gained 130.82 points to close at 86,912.58. IC bid-offer Indicator| At the end of trading, in the main and junior markets, the Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator shows 11 stocks with bids higher than their last selling prices and 4 with offers that were lower.

Cable & Wireless traded 623,636 shares to close at 52 cents, Carreras jumped $2.54 with only 2,365 shares trading to end at $44.05 almost recovering the losses suffered after investors dumped the stock in March, following hike taxes on cigarettes.
Jamaica Broilers traded 269,910 shares at $4.51 and had an offer, to sell 215,000 units at $4.69, Jamaica Producers gained $1 to close at $17 while 6,004 units traded.
National Commercial Bank had 231,819 shares changing hands, to close at $25.50, with a gain of 50 cents, but traded as low as $25 and ending with 679,541 units on the offer at $25.50, with bids for 62,175 units at $25.01.

Sagicor Group had 56,189 units trading to close 30 cents higher at $10.50 after trading as low as $10.25, at the close, 29,402 units were on offer at $10.50 and just above that, 1 million units for sale at $10.60. Scotia Investments traded 81,250 units at $23.80 with a gain of 22 cents but closed with a bid of $23.60 to buy 52,510 units while offers were at $23.80 to sell 199,850 units. Supreme Ventures closed trading with 153,850 at $2.30 and Jamaica Money Market Brokers 7.50% traded 370,000 shares at $2.

Jamaican stocks up 3,000 points in 3 days

Jamaican stocks have risen 3,054 points in the last three trading days but will it last or will the rally which started in October last year power on up? The movement is reflected in the all Jamaica Composite Index of the Jamaica Stock Exchange between last Thursday and Monday. Market activity resulted in Monday’s closing All Jamaica Index reaching the highest level, since early June 2012.
The increase took place on very low volume and was influenced mainly by one stock, Scotia Group with a mere 1,000 units trading as the prices of 6 stocks rose, 7 declined and only 21 securities changed hands, ending in 1,756,279 units trading, valued at $8,819,494, in all market segments.
Main Market| The JSE Market Index gained 848.12 points to 84,246.09, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index rose 948.24 points to close at 92,909.34 and the JSE combined index climbed 805.21 points to close at 85,837.84.
IC bid-offer Indicator| At the end of trading, in the main and junior markets, the Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator shows 14 stocks with bids higher than their last selling prices and 6 stocks with offers that were lower.

JMMB traded as high as $7.99 on Monday a new 52 weeks intra day high

Gains| Stocks gaining with last traded prices, at the end of trading in the main market are, Gleaner finished trading with 143,821 units to close with a gain of 4 cents to 90 cents, Jamaica Money Market Brokers closing with 2,264 shares traded with a gain of 1 cent to $7.06, but traded at a new 52 weeks high during the day of $7.99, Sagicor Group finishing with 104,619 shares while gaining 2 cents to $10.50 and Scotia Group closing with 1,000 shares as the price jumped at 70 cents to $22.20.
