21 JSE stocks rose 8 declined on Wednesday
The Jamaica Stock Exchange main market ended with two new 52 weeks’ high as Grace Kennedy closed at $92 and Jamaica Producers traded up to $40 with the announcement of a 5 for stock bonus to be considered at its upcoming annual General meeting. The junior market saw Cargo Handlers trading at a new all-time high at the close. The market closed with 39 securities changing hands, accounting for just 4,021,654 units valued at $52,808,843, in all market segments.
The junior market accounted for 2,139,183 shares valued at $12,635,596 of the total level traded.
Investors pushed the price of 21 stocks in the overall market up, 8 down, including 5 stocks rising and 4 declining, from the junior market as two stocks in the main market hit new highs.
The JSE Market Index moved up 1,243.66 points to end at 153,304.61. The all Jamaica Composite Index rose 1,390.88 points to close at 170,282.32 and the JSE combined index climbed 1,481.01 points, to close at 164,013.11.
IC bid-offer Indicator| At the end of trading, in the main and junior markets, the Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator reading showed 15 stocks with bids higher than their last selling prices and 6 with lower offers.
At the end of market activities, Berger Paints traded only 431 shares but rose 12 cents to close at $4.50, Cable & Wireless closed with a 9 cents gain at $1.37 after trading 52,700 units, Caribbean Cement traded 12,575 shares and gained 99 cents and closed at $24.99, Carreras fell 20 cents with 32,147 units trading to close at $65. Ciboney traded 98,000 units and gained 2 cents to close at 18 cents. The price of 1834 Investments gained 9 cents to close at $1.10, with 25,886 units trading, Grace Kennedy traded 1,022 units and gained $1 closed at $92, Hardware and Lumber traded 10,704 shares to rise by $2.50 to $18.50, Jamaica Broilers lost 20 cents to end at $14.40 while trading 26,842 shares. Jamaica Producers jumped $5.01 in trading 76,138 shares at $40, Kingston Wharves closed with a rise of 28 cents to close at $11.80, after trading 2,728 units. National Commercial Bank traded 14,487 shares, to close at $40.25. Pan Jamaican Investment closed trading at $121 as 18,273 shares changed hands, Radio Jamaica lost 1 cent in trading 5,000 shares at $1.31, Sagicor Group rose by 20 cents and ended with 1,270,216 shares changing hands at $22.50. Sagicor Real Estate Fund traded 15,542 shares and ended at $10, Scotia Group rose 50 cents to close at $30.50, while 43,041 units changed hands, Seprod traded 14,202 shares with the price rising 15 cents to $16.90. Supreme Ventures closed at $5.15 with 112,186 shares changing hands, after losing 9 cents and Proven Investments preference share, traded 24,509 units at $5, with a loss of 2 cents.
JSE makes early trading gains
In Jamaica Stock Exchange trading in the early morning session on Wednesday all main market indices rose robustly as investors started trading across a wide number of securities but with muted volumes but with two main market stocks trading at new 52 weeks’ high.
Trading resulted in activity in 28 securities, accounting for a mere 603,583 units as 17 stocks gained and 5 declined. The average number of shares traded is just 21,557 units compared to an average of 40,087 units on Tuesday.
Grace Kennedy traded just 522 shares at a 52 weeks’ high of $91.66 and so did Jamaica Producers Group that traded 76,038 shares up to a new 52 weeks’ high of $40. Palace Amusement could also trade at a new high with the bid at $140 to buy 500 shares. Elsewhere, Supreme Ventures traded 104,250 shares at $5, Caribbean Cream traded 80,555 shares at $4.47 and Lasco manufacturing traded 72,600 shares at $4.35.
After 75 minutes of trading in the early morning session, on Wednesday, the all Jamaica Composite Index rose 775.66 points to 169,667.10, the JSE Market Index rose 693.56 points to 152,754.51, the JSE combined index gained 942.52 points, to 163,474.62 and the junior market index rose 29.17 points to 2,123.15.
JSE majors make big gains – Tuesday
Trading levels picked up the early Tuesday morning session on the Jamaica Stock Exchange, with an increased number of securities trading after 75 minutes of the market’s opening leading to a sharp rise in the main market indices. The volume traded also increased well over the amount traded on Monday.
After 75 minutes of trading in the early morning session, on Tuesday, the all Jamaica Composite Index rose 1,498.66 points compared to the 2,035.21 points rise on Monday to 171,721.71, the JSE Market Index gained 1,340.05 points versus 1,819.80 points rise on Monday, to 154,591.66, the JSE combined index was up 831.40 while on Monday it rose by 1,726.04 points, to 165,354.68 and the junior market index dropped 40.14 points to 2,140.29.
Stocks traded with 100,000 units or more include, Cable & Wireless traded 122,614 shares at $1.48, followed by 1834 Investments with 118,100 at $1, Jamaica Producers had 185,220 units changing hands at $34.93 in response to an announcement of a bonus issue of shares to be put the Annual General meeting, Supreme Ventures 301,751 shares at $4.60, Caribbean Cream 208,688 at $4.60 and Lasco Distributors 705,698 shares down to $6.50.
Trading resulted in activity in 31 securities, accounting for 2,131,446 shares changing hands as 12 stocks gained and 9 declined. The average number of shares traded is 68,756 units compared to an average of 21,330 units on Monday.
JSE make gains – Wednesday
The JSE Market Index recovered 274.33 points to end at 151,747.82, the all Jamaica Composite Index added 306.58 points to end at 168,543.04 and the JSE combined index gained 417.91 points to close at 160,960.45.

At the end of the market activities, Berger Paints rose 10 cents and ended with 5,000 shares trading at $3.50, Cable & Wireless closed at $1.37 with 122,214 units changing hands, Caribbean Cement ended at $20 with 81,142 shares trading. Carreras lost 50 cents to close at $64, while trading 28,704 units, Desnoes and Geddes traded only 800 shares but fell $6.39 shares to $23.60, Gleaner closed at $2.10 with 131,961 shares changing hands, Grace Kennedy closed with 28,233 shares trading with a loss of 89 cents at $83.60, well below the $97 equivalent, it last traded at in Trinidad. Jamaica Broilers traded 45,915 units but lost 41 cents to close at $14.09, Jamaica Producers traded 13,125 units to close with a loss of 20 cents at $30.30, Jamaica Stock Exchange lost 20 cents in trading 5,000 units to close at $22.30, JMMB Group had only 1,000 units changing hands but fell 20 cents in closing at $10.10. Kingston Wharves traded 3,520 shares to rise by 5 cents to $11.50, National Commercial Bank with 110,881 shares changing hands, to close at $41, Proven Investments ordinary share traded 452,650 units and rose 1 US cent in closing at 21 US cents, Radio Jamaica ended with 10,255 units changing hands 15 cents higher to close at $4.50. Sagicor Group traded 56,670 shares changing hands at $22.10, Sagicor Real Estate Fund traded 49,790 shares and gained 35 cents to close at $10.35, Scotia Group had 272,706 shares changing hands to close at $31.10 after rising by $11.0. Supreme Ventures closed with a loss of 15 cents at $5 with 8,250 units changing hands, JMMB 5.75% preference share traded 32,087 units to close at $1.20 and JMMB 7.5% preference share traded 1,032,461shares to close at $2.15 and Proven Investments 8% preference share traded 229,000 at $5.
JSE enjoyed gains on Thursday
The Jamaican stocks made modest recovery on Thursday, with rising securities numbering 14 while 9 fell as 33 changed hands in all market segments. At the close 2 stocks ended at the close at 52 weeks’ highs with 7,003,022 units valued at $220,074,759.83 changed hands in all markets. The junior market accounted for 1,023,326 units changing hands, valued at $4,965,280.
The JSE Market Index rose 584.16 points to 154,828.16 the all Jamaica Composite Index gained 652.83 points to end at 171,985.50 and the JSE combined index climbed 703.51 points to close at 163,692.87.
The market saw a number of stock recording large price movements with Caribbean Cement jumping $2.94 Jamaica Producers traded 67,930 shares and gained of $5.50 to close at a new 52 weeks’ high of $35.50, Grace up 95 cents while trading 432,842 units, National Commercial Bank with a gain of 85 cents with 3,860,701 shares traded. Berger Paints lost 88 cents. Cable & Wireless traded 507,879 units, JMMB Group traded 410,308 units to gain 23 cents.

JSE’s main indices get hit – Wednesday
The Jamaica Stock Exchange continues to struggle in the early morning session on Wednesday with very moderate trading as investors continue to digest results of companies and the impact of the change in government.
After 75 minutes of the market opening, 27 securities traded, accounting for only 1,657,243 shares changing hands. A total of 7 stocks declined and 10 rose.
The all Jamaica Composite Index dived 1,047.22 points to 170,499.09, the JSE Market Index dropped 937.06 points to 153,498.11, the JSE combined index lost 830.99 points to 162,383.22 and the junior market index rose 5.81 points to 1,953.80.
Lasco Distributors traded steady with 763135 at $5.50, Caribbean Cement rose $1.55 with 104,207 shares to trade at $22.05, JMMB Group traded 254,607 units at $10.50, Jamaica Producers traded 40,581 shares but lost $1 to be trading at $29 and Scotia Investments traded 100,000 to recover from $26.63 at the close on Tuesday to $28.
