Trading on the Jamaica Stock Exchange on Friday ended with increased volumes but with fewer securities trading than on Thursday. A total of 33 securities changed hands, accounting for 20,939,470 units valued at $79,091,226, in all market segments. The junior market accounted for 2,216,522 shares valued at $11,878,080 as 15 stocks in the overall market gained, 14 declined including 8 of the stocks rising and 3 declining, from the junior market.
The JSE Market Index that plummeted sharply by 2,934.82 points on Thursday, recovered just 527.92 points on Friday to end at 150,039.18. The all Jamaica Composite Index gained 590.41 points on Friday but in contrast to the drop of 3,282.21 points on Thursday as it closed at 166,630.36 and the JSE combined index that dived 2,789.11 points on Thursday enjoyed a slight increase by 94.38 points, to close at 160,357.96. The decline in the movement in the main market on Friday, breaks the four consecutive trading days that the indices gained prior to today out turn.

Proven Investments closed with 8,677 ordinary shares trading at 20 US cents and JMMB Group 6% preference share ended with 62,630 units trading with a loss of 5 cents at $1.10.

The junior market accounted for 3,938,670 shares valued at $14,970,710 as 14 stocks gained, 14 declined including 8 of the stocks rising and 2 declining, from the junior market.
The JSE Market Index plummeted 2,934.82 points to end at 149,511.26, the all Jamaica Composite Index dropped 3,282.21 points to 166,039.95 and the JSE combined index dived 2,789.11 points, to close at 160,263.58. The decline in the movement in the main market on Thursday, breaks the four consecutive trading days that the indices gained prior to today out turn.

The JSE Market Index gained 1,175.25 points to end at 152,446.08, the all Jamaica Composite Index rose 1,314.36 points to 169,322.16 and the JSE combined index climbed 1,524.74 points, to close at 163,052.69.
The increased movement in the main market on Wednesday is the fourth consecutive trading days that the indices have gained.

The Jamaica Stock Exchange closed the week with Caribbean Cement jumping $4.66 with 4,640,819 shares changing hands, to end at $24.66 after the company released first quarter results, with profit of $834 million or 98 cents per shares. The movement in Cement along with gains from others, helped the main market indices to recover some of the grounds lost during the earlier part of the week.
A total of 40 securities changed hands, in all market segments, with 19 stocks rising while 8 declined. Trading amounted to 16,161,211 units valued at $141,833,561, in all markets, with the junior market accounting for 2,723,962 units valued at $12,229,768.
The JSE Market Index gained 282.48 points to end at 148,421.03, the all Jamaica Composite Index rose 315.92 points to 164,820.68 and the JSE combined index jumped 1,900.09 points, to close at 159,361.81 as junior market stocks contributed much to the rise.

The market closed with dealers buying the equivalent of US$29,032,584 and selling US$51,852,594, in contrast to US$53,873,364 purchased and US$48,342,459 sold on Monday.
In US dollars trading, dealers bought US$25,427,548 compared to US$49,748,240 on Monday, as the buying rate for the US dollar fell 15 cents to end at $121.54. A total of US$47,856,185 was sold versus US$46,610,741 on Monday, the selling rate rose 13 cents to $122.46.FX trde sum 19-04-16 The Canadian dollar buying rate rose $1.92 to end at $94.48 with dealers buying C$1,390,937 and selling C$3,959,309, at an average rate that climbed $2.72 to $97.50. The rate for buying the British Pound rose by $2.04 to $171.55 for the purchase of £1,651,855, while £264,931 was sold, as the rate rose $1.49 to $172.79. At the end of trading, the selling rate for Euro, rose 42 cents to close at J$138.59, from Monday’s rate, according to data from Bank of Jamaica, while dealers purchased the European common currency at J$135.79 for a rise of 37 cents on Monday’s rate. The US dollar equivalent of other currencies traded, amounts to US$192,442 being bought, while US$470,505 was sold.
