Trading level was low, with 12 securities changing hands, 2 advanced 4 declined and 6 traded firm with 146,365 stocks changing hands with a value of $984,838.
The Composite Index lost 2.75 points to close at 1,178.35, the All T&T Index fell by 5.29 points to close at 2,021.39 and the Cross Listed Index fell by a mere 0.03 points to end at 43.93.
Gains| Stocks increasing in price at the close are ANSA Merchant Bank gained a cent to close at $39.03 and Point Lisas Industrial Port Development with 150 shares gained 15 cents to end the day at $4.15.
Declines| The stocks declining at the end of trading are First Citizens Bank that lost 93 cents, to close at $36.50 with 2.036 shares, Guardian Holdings added 10,902 shares valued at $155,899 to close down by 45 cents at $14.30, Jamaica Money Market Brokers with 69,634 shares changing hands for a value of $31,335, closed at 45 cents, Neal & Massy traded 2,000 units but declined by 7 cents to close at $68.88 and Sagicor Financial Corporation with a volume of 35,515 units, traded for $237,611 to close 3 cents lower at $6.69.
Firm Trades| Stocks closing with prices unchanged at the end of trading are Angostura Holdings with 21,500 shares with a value of $274,153 to close at $12.75, Clico Investment Fund that posted a volume of 455 shares valued at $9,828 to close at $21.60, Grace Kennedy 200 shares to close at $3.45, National Flour Mills 700 units closing at $1 and Prestige Holdings 2,245 shares to end at $9.40.

Gains| Stocks increasing in price at the close are, National Commercial Bank with 606 shares changing hands and closed with a 1 cent advance to $1.06 and Neal & Massy with 1,000 shares traded to close 5 cents higher at $68.95 for a new 52 weeks high, Republic Bank increased by 30 cents to end the day at $121 while trading 2,700 shares with a value of $326,700.
Declines|The stocks declining at the end of trading are Scotiabank with 8,296 shares traded for $575,637, the price lost 7 cents to close at $69.38 for a new 52 weeks low and West Indian Tobacco with 433 shares, declined by 7 cents to close at $118.
Firm Trades| Stocks closing with prices unchanged at the end of trading are ANSA McAL with a mere 22 shares to close at $66.29, Clico Investment Fund traded 65,000 shares valued at $1,404,000 to close at $21.60, Guardian Holdings with only 67 shares to close at $14.75, Jamaica Money Market Brokers with 139,753 shares changing hands for a value of $62,889 closed at 45 cents, National Enterprises added 1,500 shares valued at $28,125 to close at $18.75.

Of note is First Citizens ended with an offer of $37.29 to sell 4,163 units compared to the last selling price of $37.43 and Point Lisas has a bid of $4.15 for 4,000 units compared with a last sales of $4. Both closing quotes suggest that when next these stocks trade there should be a noticeable price change.

The Composite Index lost 2.17 points to close at 1,180.84, the All T&T Index rose fell by just 4.26 points to close at 2,026.54 and the Cross Listed Index eased by a mere 0.01 points to end at 43.91.
Gains| Stocks increasing in price at the close are Neal & Massy gained 5 cents to end the day at $68.85 while exchanging 871 units, to end at another 52 weeks high, Prestige Holdings added 3,755 shares valued at $35,335 to end at $9.41 up a cent and Unilever with 1,500 shares closed a cents higher at $62.01 for a new 52 weeks high.
Declines| The stocks declining at the end of trading are National Enterprises was the volume leader with 21,594 shares changing hands for a value of $404,911 and fell 25 cents to close at $18.75, Sagicor Financial Corporation with 3,375 shares to close with a one cent loss at$6.73, Scotiabank contributed 6,501 shares with a value of $452,578 while closing 17 cents lower at $69.61 and Scotia Investments lost a cent to close at $1.55 while trading 3,300 units.
Firm Trades| Stocks closing with prices unchanged at the end of trading are Clico Investment Fund had a volume of 9,843 shares valued at $211,625 to remain at $21.50 followed by Guardian Holdings with 8,552 shares traded for $126,142 to close at $14.75, Jamaica Money Market Brokers with only 2,000 units to close at 45 cents, One Caribbean Media 1,313 to close at $23, Trinidad Cement 500 shares, closed 1.95.

Guardian General Profit drops
Guardian General Insurance the Jamaica general insurance arm of the Trinidad Stock Exchange listed Guardian Holdings recorded lower profits in 2013 than it did the year before thanks to higher claims and lower investment income. Profit after tax came in at $272 million versus $392 million in the prior year even as premium income rose to $109 billion up from $$8383 million. The company reported an underwriting loss of $39 million compared with a surplus of just $12 million in 2012 due mainly to increased underwriting losses of $877 million versus $552 million in 2012.
Investment income fell from $389 million in 2012 to $296 million while administrative expenses climbed to $427 million from $323 million.
Total assets moved from $6.12 billion in 2012 to $8.65 billion due to the combination of what was formerly Globe Insurance and West Indies Alliance in September 2013 and equity ended down at $2.87 billion from $2.98 billion as dividend of $1.16 billion was paid out during the year.

The market saw a pick-up in trading, with 19 securities being active, of which 6 advanced, 3 declined and 10 traded firm with 1,112,248 stocks trading, valued at $15,182,744.
The Composite Index lost 0.40 points to close at 1,180.79, the All T&T Index rose by 0.24 points to close at 2,018.14 and the Cross Listed Index fell 0.14 points to close at 45.02.
Gains| Stocks increasing in price at the close are, ANSA Mcal trading 100 shares, to close at $66.45, up a cent, Guardian Holdings traded 3,000 units, as the price rose a cent, to $13.51, Jamaica Money Market Brokers with 218,853 shares traded for $109,249, gained 2 cents, to close at 50 cents, National Flour Mills with 543,441 shares changing hands for a value of $590,815, rose 2 cents to end at $1.09 and One Caribbean Media stock price rose by 6 cents, to end the day at $20.46 as 10,401 units were traded, and it closed at a new 52 weeks high and Point Lisas Industrial Port Development traded 500 units, to close with a 4 cents loss, at $3.75.
Declines| Agostini’s traded 200 shares and lost a cent to end at $17.57, Prestige Holdings with 6,280 shares, traded at $9.37, with a fall of 4 cents and Sagicor Financial Corporation added 65,237 shares valued at $440,350 and lost 27cents, to close at $6.75.

PE ratio weekly moves| Prices for quite a few stocks changed during the week, but with moderate effect on the PE ratios. Biggest losers were, Trinidad Cement which pushed the potential gain to 615 percent and National Flour Mills that fell to $1.07 from $1.20 at the start of the week and saw the potential gains, climbing to 229 percent, up from 193 percent last week. Guardian Holdings made moderate gains and Citizens continued its recovery, by closing at $38.51 on the bid, up from $38.02 last week. One Caribbean Media and Neal and Massy both closed at new 52 weeks highs, but still has more to gain as they remain undervalued. The average PE ratio for the market is at 14, with 7 stocks trading below and 3 trading just above the average.
Citizens march on TTSE
First Citizens Bank continues its recover, by ending with another gain in the march towards the $40 mark once more, on a day with trading in 12 securities, of which 4 advanced, 3 declined and 5 traded firm. Only 93,287 stocks traded, with a value of $5,597,251.
The Composite Index advanced 1.53 points to close at 1,181.19, the All T&T Index rose by 3.05 points to close at 2,017.90 and the Cross Listed Index remained flat at 45.16.
Gains| Stocks increasing in price at the close are, Ansa Merchant Bank trading 3,520 units, to close with a gain of 9 cents at $38.49, First Citizens Bank with 29,063 shares changing hands, for a value of $1,118,588, to close at $38.50, up 28 cents, Neal & Massy enjoyed a 50 cents gain, to end the day at $67, a new 52 weeks high, with 1,650 shares changing hands and Republic Bank with 23,853 shares being traded for $2,870,709, gained 2 cents to close at $120.35.
Declines| In trading, Agostini’s with 569 shares, closed at $17.58 and lost a cent, ANSA McAL lost a cent in trading 148 units, to close at $66.44 and Clico Investment Fund fell by 2 cents, to close at $21.56 in posting 8,395 shares valued at $181,005.

Gains| Prestige Holdings had 158,395 shares changing hands, for a value of $1,480,422 as the price gained 6 cents to end at $9.35, Republic Bank traded a mere 83 units as the price moved up 5 cents, to close at $120.16, for a new 52 weeks high and Scotia Investments closed with 14,984 shares for a 1 cent gain at $1.60.

Hibernating stocks awaken on TTSE
A number of stocks that have either not traded in months or seldom traded from as far back 2013 surfaced from their slumber in Thursday’s trading on the Trinidad Stock Exchange. Included in the list, are Ansa Merchant Bank, Berger Paints, Flavorite Foods and Prestige Holdings. The change flushed out some stocks that were showing signs that they would fall when they next traded as offer prices were lower than their last selling price for some time.
Market activity resulted in the trading in 13 securities of which 5 advanced, 4 declined and 4 traded firm resulting in 106,402 shares changing hands, valued at $2,855,845 and moving the Composite Index down by 1.31 points to 1,171.77 while the All T&T Index fell by 2.61 points to close at 1,988.18 and the Cross Listed Index remained at 46.62.
Gains| Stocks recording gains in the market are Ansa Merchant Bank contributing 9,411 shares with a value of $361,226 as the price moved up 10 cents to end at $38.40, Clico Investment Fund with 24,180 shares valued at $528,333, the price advanced by 9 cents to end at $21.85. Medical Disposables IPO closed | Medical Disposables IPO closed this morning just after 9:00am and shortly after the official opening, IC Insider have been informed. The company placed 63.157 million shares on offer at $1.83 to raise $115 million.
Guardian leaves us | Guardian Holdings will no longer be available to trade on the Jamaica Stock Exchange as the company has applied for the shares to be delisted effective end of December. The stock is still available for trading on the Trinidad & Tobago Stock Exchange where the company is mainly listed. The delisting means less listing fees for the JSE come 2014.
Sagicor Group list by year end | Sagicor Life is expected to be delisted from the JSE by year end. IC Insider gathers that the JSE gave approval for Sagicor Group the direct parent company for Sagicor Life and Sagicor Investments to be listed and Sagicor Life to be delisted. Existing shareholders of Sagicor Life will receive shares equal to their existing holdings in the new company.

T&T PEs: Better buys ahead
Friday, 6th September 2013 | The PE Ratio chart for stocks trading on the Trinidad stock market has two movements to note for the week just ended.
Trinidad Cement fell sharply during the week to below $2 but the stock has become a more attractive buy with a potential return of 567% versus 350% last week. However, based on the closing bids and offers this stock could drop some more before reversing the recent decline.
Guardian Holdings fell to $14 this week, moving the potential gain from 250% last week to 270% this week and remains an attractive buy. Elsewhere in the market, not much has changed from this past week as prices remained fairly stable.
