Main market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange closed with strong gains in the indices on Monday as Grace Kennedy traded 1.9 million units carrying a value of $160 million. The other big trade was in National Commercial Bank shares with over 2 million units changing hands with a value of $88.6 million.
Market activities slowed with only 33 securities changing hands in all market segments compared to recent levels around 40 or more per day for January. At the close of trading session, the combined index added 2,291 points with 13 securities in the combined markets gaining and 16 declining.
Three stocks closed at 52 weeks’ highs and two traded at intraday highs as 8,596,958 units valued at $285,106,122 changed hands in all markets. The junior market accounted for 1,200,794 units changed hands, valued at $ 5,249,310.
The JSE Market Index advanced by 2,618.88 points to 159,325.44 the all Jamaica Composite Index closed with a gain of 2,926.75 points to end at 177,011.46 and the JSE combined index rose 2,290.59 points to close at 170,337.74.

The recorded closing price for Scotia Group in yesterdays’ trading was $34.23 according to the Jamaica Stock exchange rules, but the stock last traded at $30.10. The stock exchange indices are based on the weighted average price making Scotia Group the main mover to push up the market index sharply on Wednesday based on the JSE recognized closing price.
In today’s trading, the stock last traded at $34.99 but the official closing price is $31.87, the end, the market index dropped sharply, resulting in major swings in the market, despite the JSE’s attempt to use the weighted averages to set the final closing price for a day, in an effort to cut closing price manipulation and its impact on the indices.
There were relatively large trades in excess of 2 million units, in National Commercial Bank, Sagicor Group and Supreme Ventures. The high number of stocks participating in trading on the exchange continued on Thursday with 44 active securities in all market segments. At the close 24 securities in the combined markets gained and 9 declined. The Jamaica Stock Exchange main market fell on Tuesday as Grace Kennedy, Scotia Group and Scotia Investments fell by more than $2, while JMMB Group and Pan Jam fell by nearly $1 but the junior market continued on its merry way to record yet another new high.
At the close, 9,739,157 units valued at $109,231,948 changed hands in all markets with the junior market accounting for 5,129,787 units, valued at $30,252,961.
The JSE Market Index declined by 696.34 points to 157,080.25, the all Jamaica Composite Index fell 778.20 points to end at 174,502.33 and the JSE combined index rose 225.21 points to close at 169,405.13.

A total 17 stocks in the combined markets gained and 5 declined. One stock traded at 52 weeks’ closing high and one at intraday 52 weeks’ high as the bull market continues to wind its way forward.

Trading levels are low after the Christmas break with 24 securities trading up to 10:45 on Monday morning on the Jamaica Stock Exchange. JSE intra 28-12-15All the main indices rose with 13 stocks rising and only 3 declining with 1,022,877 units changing hands.
The all Jamaica Composite Index rose 731.19 points to 163,015.23 the JSE Market Index gained 654.27 points to 146,801.48, the JSE combined index increased by 745.93 points to 153,736.10 and the junior market index is down 14.36 points to 1,694.77.
Interesting trades include Barita Investments with 105,000 shares at $3.80, Caribbean Cement rising $1.30 with 9,815 shares to $19.50, Caribbean Cream with 76,685 shares at $3.88 after gaining 8 cents, Derrimon Trading with 100,000 units at $3.80, Lasco Distributors with 180,883 units at a new high of $5 and Lasco Manufacturing with 248,830 shares at $3.40.

The main market recorded sizable gains on Monday, pushing the main indices up by over 1,000 points, with only 33 securities trading on Monday. The market closed with 5,515,963 units valued at $33,968,671 changing hands, in all market segments. Of the total value of stocks traded $20,386,711 was executed in the junior market. A total of 17 stocks gained, 8 declined as 4 stocks closed at 52 weeks’ high and 2 traded at an intraday high but pulled back before the close.
The JSE Market Index climbed 1,000.11 points to 143,358.95, the all Jamaica Composite Index rose 1,117.69 points to end at 159,168.01 and the JSE combined index recovered 1,122.82 points to close at 149,895.32. Notwithstanding today’s gains, the main market faces the next test at 165,000 points level, on the all Jamaica composite index.

In trading, Barita Investments traded 14,770 units at $3.80, Cable and Wireless gained 5 cents and closed with 627,319 units changing hands at $1.33, after trading as high as $1.45, Caribbean Cement gained 60 cents and closed trading at $18.60, with 22,709 shares changing hands. Carreras rose 90 cents and closed at $57 with 208 units trading, Ciboney traded at 22 cents at the close with 459,210 units changing hands after losing 4 cents. The stock traded at an intraday high of 29 cents. Gleaner traded 30,760 units at $1.40, Grace Kennedy ended with 91,743 units changing hands, to finish with a fall of $1.50 at $76.50, Jamaica Broilers jumped $1.49 in trading 146,083 shares, to close at a 52 weeks’ high of $9.99.JSE Fn Qts 14-12-15r Jamaica Producers lost $2 in trading 16,022 units at $28, Jamaica Stock Exchange shares traded 12,050 units at $18.99 for a new closing 52 weeks’ high, with 1,110 percent gain since the start of the year. National Commercial Bank rose 5 cents and ended at $38.05 with just 4,637 units changing hands, Pulse Investments traded 39,414 shares with a rise of 4 cents to close at $2.30, Radio Jamaica lost 26 cents and landed at $3.80 with 2,342 shares trading, Sagicor Group with 51,550 units changing hands ended at $17 after rising 46 cents. Scotia Group lost 50 cents with 27,248 shares changing hands and ended at $28.50, Scotia Investments climbed $3 with 20,242 units trading and closed at $30 and Supreme Ventures fell 20 cents and ended at $4.65 with 83,530 units changing hands.
