Grace’s $160m trade on Monday

Grace Kennedy traded 1.9m shares valued at $160m on Monday.

Main market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange closed with strong gains in the indices on Monday as Grace Kennedy traded 1.9 million units carrying a value of $160 million. The other big trade was in National Commercial Bank shares with over 2 million units changing hands with a value of $88.6 million.
Market activities slowed with only 33 securities changing hands in all market segments compared to recent levels around 40 or more per day for January. At the close of trading session, the combined index added 2,291 points with 13 securities in the combined markets gaining and 16 declining.
Three stocks closed at 52 weeks’ highs and two traded at intraday highs as 8,596,958 units valued at $285,106,122 changed hands in all markets. The junior market accounted for 1,200,794 units changed hands, valued at $ 5,249,310.
The JSE Market Index advanced by 2,618.88 points to 159,325.44 the all Jamaica Composite Index closed with a gain of 2,926.75 points to end at 177,011.46 and the JSE combined index rose 2,290.59 points to close at 170,337.74.
IC bid-offer Indicator| At the end of trading, in the main and junior markets, the Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator reading was 12 stocks with bids higher than their last selling prices and 4 with lower offers.
At the end of the market activities, Barita Investments closed with 200,500 shares as the price lost 13 cents to end at $3.90. The company confirmed on Monday that they are on target to release the audited accounts to September last year, this week. Berger Paints closed with a loss of 29 cents at $3.31 as 337,791 units traded, Cable and Wireless ended with 415,800 units changing hands to close with a gain of 5 cents at $1.56, Caribbean Cement rose $2 to close at $24, with 425,288 shares changing hands. Carreras fell 55 cents in trading 1,956 shares at $62.50, Ciboney gained 3 cents in trading 200,555 shares at 27 cents, Gleaner traded 3,000 units with a gain of 27 cents at $2.67, Grace Kennedy shed $2 and closed at $82, with 1,949,435 units changing hands. Jamaica Broilers rose by 1 cent and closed at 52 weeks’ high of $13.51 with 80,536 shares changing hands. Jamaica Stock Exchange lost 3 cents to close at $19.67 while trading 5,740 shares, JMMB Group traded 1,042,305 units to end with a loss of 28 cents at $10.72. Kingston Wharves traded 30,400 units to close with a rise of 15 cents at $11.15, Mayberry Investments traded 8,450 shares and gained 15 cents to close at $4.85, National Commercial Bank traded with a loss of $3 to close at $40, with 2,199,601 units changing hands. Sagicor Group fell by 20 cents to close at $23.05 with 61,650 units changing hands, Scotia Group had 59,199 shares changing hands to close with a gain of $1.59 at $32, Scotia Investments had 30,814 units changing hands at $30, for a rise of $2. Sterling Investments traded 100,000 units with a loss of 10 cents to end at $12.90, Supreme Ventures traded at an intraday 52 weeks’ high of $6.50 but ended at $5.50 with 72,434 units changing hands, Proven Investments ordinary share traded 16,950 units at 22 US cents and JMMB 7.5% Preference share traded 151,000 units at $2.10 after losing a cent.

138 Student Living had 12.5m ordinary shares trading on Friday

138 Student Living traded 12.5 million shares valued at $66.25 million Friday on the Jamaica Stock Exchange with the stock ending at an all-time high of $5.30 after rising by 20 cents in a trading session that saw over 300 points being cut from the main market indices.
The number of securities changing hands remained high with 44 changing hands on Friday, in all market segments. At the close, 16 securities in the combined markets gained and 13 declined.
Five stocks closed at 52 weeks’ highs and two traded at intraday high as 17,493,274 units valued at $112,767,164 changed hands in all markets. The junior market accounted for 1,058,983 units changed hands, valued at $6,002,466.
The JSE Market Index fell by 318.51 points to 156,706.56 the all Jamaica Composite Index closed with a loss of 355.96 points to end at 174,084.71 and the JSE combined index declined 246.21 points to close at 168,047.15.
IC bid-offer Indicator| At the end of trading, in the main and junior markets, the Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator declined from an elevated level on Thursday with the current reading of only 8 stocks with bids higher than their last selling prices and 2 with lower offers.

Jamaica Broilers closed at $13.50 with 260,019 shares changing hands. Jamaica Producers ended with 8,270 shares trading, to close at $31, Jamaica Stock Exchange rose 4 cents to close at $19.70 while trading 109,420 shares, JMMB Group traded 108,518 units to end with a loss of 1 cent at $11. Kingston Wharves traded 6,992 units to close at $11. Mayberry Investments traded 48,924 shares and lost 17 cents to close at $4.70. National Commercial Bank ended with a gain of $1.80 at $43 with 76,733 units changing hands, Pan Jamaican Investments closed at $96 with 4,382 shares trading. Radio Jamaica traded 405,020 shares but fell 60 cents to $4.20, Sagicor Group rose by $1.25 to close at $23.25 with 240,545 units changing hands, Scotia Group had 286,042 shares changing hands to close at $30.41, Supreme Ventures traded at an intraday 52 weeks’ high of $6 but ended at $5.50 with 983,022 units changing hands. C&W traded 51.4 Million shares on Thursday

Cable & Wireless traded over 51 million shares on Thursday on the Jamaica Stock Exchange as Sagicor Investments crossed more than 48 million on behalf of clients. The market continues to enjoy wide securities participation with 40 changing hands on Thursday in all market segments. At the close, 13 securities in the combined markets gained and 18 declined with the market indices climbing sharply.
Five stocks closed at 52 weeks’ highs and two traded at intraday high as 54,222,475 units valued at $114,953,664 changed hands in all markets. The junior market accounted for 1,498,422 units changed hands, valued at $9,013,294.
The JSE Market Index eked out an increase of 1,207.54 points to 157,025.07, the all Jamaica Composite Index closed with an increase of 1,349.49 points to end at 174,440.67 and the JSE combined index rose 1,080.44 points to close at 168,293.36.

Mayberry Investments traded 10.7 million shares

The Jamaica Stock Exchange continues to enjoy wide participation of securities with 42 changing hands on Wednesday in all market segments but with sharply higher value compared with recent trading days. At the close, 14 securities in the combined markets gained and 14 declined but price changes overall were moderate.
Three stocks closed at 52 weeks’ highs and two traded at intraday high as 26,456,207 units valued at $400,593,508 changed hands in all markets, Mayberry Investments traded 10.7 million units and the Jamaica Stock Exchange with 5.9 million units and 4 others trading over 1 million units each. The junior market accounted for 1,738,498 units, valued at $9,189,436.
The JSE Market Index eked out an increase of 71.84 points to 155,817.53, the all Jamaica Composite Index closed with an increase of 80.29 points to end at 173,091.18 and the JSE combined index rose by 42.84 points to close at 167,212.92.
IC bid-offer Indicator| At the end of trading, in the main and junior markets, the Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator reached an elevated level indicating several rising prices ahead with reading of 17 stocks with bids higher than their last selling prices and only 5 with lower offers.

Berger Paints closed at $3.60 as the price slipped 10 cents with 1,808 units trading, Cable and Wireless ended with 897,000 units changing hands to close at $1.50, Caribbean Cement rose $3.48 to close at $25, with 16,132 shares changing hands. Carreras gained 1 cent in trading 38,550 shares at $61, Gleaner Company traded 29,321 units at $2.68, Grace Kennedy lost 48 cents and closed at $82.02, with 265,024 units changing hands. Jamaica Broilers closed at $12.51 with 46,648 shares changing hands to record a gain of 25 cents. Jamaica Producers had 24,840 shares trading, the price closed at $33.13 after trading at a 52 weeks’ intraday high of $33.18, Jamaica Stock Exchange rose 60 cents to close at $19.80 while trading 5,864,920 shares, JMMB Group traded 2,067,358 units to end with a loss of 3 cents at $11.80, Kingston Wharves rose 4 cents, in trading 3,665 units to close at $11.05. Margaritaville Turks traded 94,500 shares at 11 US cents. Mayberry Investments traded 10,687,021 shares and gained 2 cents to end at $4.87, National Commercial Bank ended with a fall of 10 cents at $40.90, with 6,160 units changing hands, Pan Jamaican Investments climbed $2 to close at $96 with 1,217,051 shares trading. Radio Jamaica traded 25,800 shares but fell 70 cents to $4.80, Sagicor Group declined by 40 cents to close at $21.60 with 230,143 units changing hands, Sagicor Real Estate Fund closed at $11.60 with 152,000 shares traded, Scotia Group rose 8 cents with 1,288,197 shares changing hands to close at $30.48. Scotia Investments lost 50 cents, with 200,115 shares changing hands to close at $28, Supreme Ventures lost 10 cents to end at $5.15 with 1,076,108 units changing hands after the price reached an intraday high of $5.50. Proven Investments ordinary share traded 52,900 units at 22.99 US cents, Proven Investments preference share traded 400,000 units at $8 and Jamaica Money Market 7.25% preference share traded 26,000 units with a gain of 34 cents, to end at $2.40.

JSE suffers big drop on thursday

Scotia Group caused major swing in the JSE index on Wednesday & Thursday.

The recorded closing price for Scotia Group in yesterdays’ trading was $34.23 according to the Jamaica Stock exchange rules, but the stock last traded at $30.10. The stock exchange indices are based on the weighted average price making Scotia Group the main mover to push up the market index sharply on Wednesday based on the JSE recognized closing price.
In today’s trading, the stock last traded at $34.99 but the official closing price is $31.87, the end, the market index dropped sharply, resulting in major swings in the market, despite the JSE’s attempt to use the weighted averages to set the final closing price for a day, in an effort to cut closing price manipulation and its impact on the indices.
There were relatively large trades in excess of 2 million units, in National Commercial Bank, Sagicor Group and Supreme Ventures. The high number of stocks participating in trading on the exchange continued on Thursday with 44 active securities in all market segments. At the close 24 securities in the combined markets gained and 9 declined. Four stocks closed at 52 weeks’ highs and 3 at intraday highs as 20,376,982 units valued at $295,286,830 changed hands in all markets, with the junior market accounting for 2,815,123 units changed hands, valued at $15,357,167.
The JSE Market Index dropped 3,221.67 points to 157,625.77, the all Jamaica Composite Index made a sharp downturn with 3,600.40 points to end at 175,111.99 and the JSE combined index dived by 3,710.78 points to close at 169,229.05.

In trading, Barita Investments traded 10,000 shares and gained 10 cents to close at $3.90, Cable and Wireless ended with 113,157 units changing hands to close with a gain of 4 cents t0 $1.44, Caribbean Cement had wild price swings during trading, with the stock trading at an intraday high of $27.75 and as low as $20.50. The price fell $3.10 to $22, with 87,713 shares trading. At the close there were 2,203,900 units offered for sale at $28. Carreras rose 5 cents to end at $60.05 with 34,895 units changing hands, Gleaner Company traded 145,708 shares to close at with a loss of 30 cents at $2.40, Grace Kennedy fell to $80.21, with a fall of $3.79, as 114,095 units changed hands. Jamaica Broilers jumped $1.51 to close at $13.01 with 317,655 shares changing hands, for a new 52 weeks’ high. Jamaica Producers had 5,000 shares trading as the price moved up by 60 cents to $32.20, Jamaica Stock Exchange closed at $19 while trading 900 shares, at the close the bid was at $19.50 for only 340 units, JMMB Group traded 94,158 units to end with a loss of 5 cents at $11.95. Kingston Wharves traded 80,823 units but lost 5 cents to close at $11.15, Mayberry Investments traded just 2,540 shares and lost 8 cents to end at $4.72, National Commercial Bank ended with a gain of 1 cent at $41.50 with 2,096,961 units changing hands, Pan Jamaican Investments fell $1.85 to close at $94.15 with 5,247 shares trading. Radio Jamaica traded 21,940 shares but closed $5.60. Sagicor Group fell 5 cents to close at $23.45 with 5,208,162 units changing hands, Sagicor Real Estate Fund traded 83,740 shares to end at $11, Scotia Group gained $4.89 with 55,940 shares changing hands at $34.99, Scotia Investments dropped $3.10 to close at $26.80 after 49,315 units traded, Supreme Ventures gained 4 cents to end at $4.70 with a high volume of 8,564,688 units changing hands and Jamaica Money Market Brokers 7.50% preference share traded 50,500 units at $2.

Scotia Group helped to push the main market indices sharply.

There was a high number of securities trading on the Jamaica Stock Exchange on Wednesday, with 49 being active in all market segments. At the close 24 securities in the combined markets gained and 9 declined. Six stocks closed at 52 weeks’ highs.
At the close, 9,739,157 units valued at $69,117,631 changed hands in all markets with the junior market accounting for 5,129,787 units, valued at $30,252,961.
Scotia Group help to push the main market indices sharply higher as it traded during the day at $35, with the index computed on an average price of $34.23, the stock last traded at $30.10. The JSE Market Index jumped 3,767.19 points to 160,847.44, the all Jamaica Composite Index made a sharp upturn with 4,210.06 points to end at 178,712.39 and the JSE combined index rose sharply by 3,534.70 points to close at 172,939.83.

In trading, Barita traded 13,800 shares and fell 20 cents to close at $3.80, Berger Paints ended with 518,126 shares trading at $3.20, for a fall of 70 cents, Cable and Wireless ended with 1,543,691 units changing hands to close at $1.40, but traded as high as $1.50 before the close. Caribbean Cement gained 10 cents to end at $25.10 with 77,398 shares trading, the stock traded as high as $27.50 during the day. Carreras lost $1 to end at $60 with 94,600 units changing hands, Ciboney traded 72,323 shares at 25 cents, Gleaner Company traded 109,622 shares to close at $2.70, Grace Kennedy climbed back to $84, with a rise of $3.80, as 757 units changed hands. Jamaica Broilers gained 30 cents to close at $11.50 with 54,818 shares changing hands, for a new 52 weeks’ high. Jamaica Producers had 8,257 shares trading as the price inched up by 4 cents to $31.60, Jamaica Stock Exchange rose 18 cents to end at $19 while trading 29,100 shares, JMMB Group traded 147,734 units to end at $12, Kingston Wharves traded 13,400 units but lost 5 cents to close at $11.20.

Seprod rose by $1 as it traded 6,037 units to end at $21, Supreme Ventures regained 3 cents to end at $4.66 with 114,784 units changing hands, Proven Investments ordinary share traded 523,177 units to end at 22.98 US cents and the companies 8 percent preference share traded 52,666 units at $5.

Sharp drop in some prices on JSE

Grace Kennedy fell $4.13 to $80.20.

The Jamaica Stock Exchange main market fell on Tuesday as Grace Kennedy, Scotia Group and Scotia Investments fell by more than $2, while JMMB Group and Pan Jam fell by nearly $1 but the junior market continued on its merry way to record yet another new high.
At the close, 9,739,157 units valued at $109,231,948 changed hands in all markets with the junior market accounting for 5,129,787 units, valued at $30,252,961.
The JSE Market Index declined by 696.34 points to 157,080.25, the all Jamaica Composite Index fell 778.20 points to end at 174,502.33 and the JSE combined index rose 225.21 points to close at 169,405.13.
Trading resulted in 44 active securities in all market segments as 14 in the combined markets gained and 19 declined. Six stocks closed at 52 weeks’ highs.

Radio Jamaica trade just 200 shares but closed with a gain of 10 cents to a 52 weeks’ high of $5.60, Sagicor Group closed at $23 with 109,760 units changing hands, Sagicor Real Estate Fund traded 9,000 shares at $11.60, Scotia Group lost $2.65 to close with 289,935 shares changing hands at $30.10. Scotia Investments dropped $2.22 to close at $26.80 after 61,048 units traded, Seprod traded 18,206 units and fell 60 cents to end at $20, Supreme Ventures fell 3 cents to end at $4.63 with 754,726 units changing hands and Proven Investments ordinary share traded 612,564 units to end at 21.75 US cents, down from 22.87 US cents.

New record for JSE majors – Monday

Jamaican stock market closed at a new all-time high on Monday.

Trading ended on the Jamaica stock market with all three main indices climbing to new record highs, with gains of more than 1,000 points. Only 30 securities traded in all market segments with the junior market accounting for 9,625,941 units, valued at $21,462,981, of the trades.
The number of shares changing hands ended at 13,211,348 units valued at $79,384,406.
A total 17 stocks in the combined markets gained and 5 declined. One stock traded at 52 weeks’ closing high and one at intraday 52 weeks’ high as the bull market continues to wind its way forward.
At the close the JSE Market Index climbed 1,012.93 points to 147,160.14, the all Jamaica Composite Index rose 1,132.01 points to end at 163,416.05 and the JSE combined index gained 1,138.74 points to close at 154,128.91. The main market faces resistance test around the 165,000 points level, on the all Jamaica composite index.

IC bid-offer Indicator| At the end of trading, in the main and junior markets, the Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator had a reading of 15 stocks with bids higher than their last selling prices and 6 with lower offers.
In trading, Barita Investments ended with a loss of 5 cents as 105,000 shares traded at $3.80, Berger Paints traded 143,510 shares at $3.15, Cable and Wireless had 92,427 units changing hands at $1.33, Caribbean Cement lost 10 cents to end at $18.10, with 2,979,782 shares trading, Carreras rose 75 cents to close at $60.75, with 610 units changing hands. Grace Kennedy gained 9 cents with 561 units changing hands, to finish at $80.11, Jamaica Broilers rose 20 cents to close at $10.05 with 32,000 shares changing hands, Jamaica Producers traded 20,000 shares to end at $32, JMMB Group rose 30 cents to close at $10.45 with 4,454 units changing hands.

Kingston Wharves gained just 1 cent to close at $11.35 with 40,200 shares changing hands, Mayberry Investments had 20.000 shares trading at $4.40 for a gain of 10 cents, National Commercial Bank lost 20 cents to end at $39.70, with 4,100 units changing hands, Pulse Investments traded 5,370 units with a gain of 25 cents at $2.75. Sagicor Group closed with 44,400 units changing hands with a gain of 90 cents to $18.50 for a new 52 weeks’ closing high, Scotia Group gained 30 cents with 36,408 shares changing hands at $30, Supreme Ventures ended at $4.66 with 15,000 units changing hands and Jamaica Money Market Brokers 7.25% preference share traded 50,000 units at $2.02.

13 stocks rise 3 down early trading

Trading levels are low after the Christmas break with 24 securities trading up to 10:45 on Monday morning on the Jamaica Stock Exchange. All the main indices rose with 13 stocks rising and only 3 declining with 1,022,877 units changing hands.
The all Jamaica Composite Index rose 731.19 points to 163,015.23 the JSE Market Index gained 654.27 points to 146,801.48, the JSE combined index increased by 745.93 points to 153,736.10 and the junior market index is down 14.36 points to 1,694.77.
Interesting trades include Barita Investments with 105,000 shares at $3.80, Caribbean Cement rising $1.30 with 9,815 shares to $19.50, Caribbean Cream with 76,685 shares at $3.88 after gaining 8 cents, Derrimon Trading with 100,000 units at $3.80, Lasco Distributors with 180,883 units at a new high of $5 and Lasco Manufacturing with 248,830 shares at $3.40.

JSE gains over 1,000 points on Monday

The JSE stock traded at a new 52 weeks’ high of $19 on Monday and gained over 1,100% for 2015

The main market recorded sizable gains on Monday, pushing the main indices up by over 1,000 points, with only 33 securities trading on Monday. The market closed with 5,515,963 units valued at $33,968,671 changing hands, in all market segments. Of the total value of stocks traded $20,386,711 was executed in the junior market. A total of 17 stocks gained, 8 declined as 4 stocks closed at 52 weeks’ high and 2 traded at an intraday high but pulled back before the close.
The JSE Market Index climbed 1,000.11 points to 143,358.95, the all Jamaica Composite Index rose 1,117.69 points to end at 159,168.01 and the JSE combined index recovered 1,122.82 points to close at 149,895.32. Notwithstanding today’s gains, the main market faces the next test at 165,000 points level, on the all Jamaica composite index.

In trading, Barita Investments traded 14,770 units at $3.80, Cable and Wireless gained 5 cents and closed with 627,319 units changing hands at $1.33, after trading as high as $1.45, Caribbean Cement gained 60 cents and closed trading at $18.60, with 22,709 shares changing hands. Carreras rose 90 cents and closed at $57 with 208 units trading, Ciboney traded at 22 cents at the close with 459,210 units changing hands after losing 4 cents. The stock traded at an intraday high of 29 cents. Gleaner traded 30,760 units at $1.40, Grace Kennedy ended with 91,743 units changing hands, to finish with a fall of $1.50 at $76.50, Jamaica Broilers jumped $1.49 in trading 146,083 shares, to close at a 52 weeks’ high of $9.99.

Jamaica Producers lost $2 in trading 16,022 units at $28, Jamaica Stock Exchange shares traded 12,050 units at $18.99 for a new closing 52 weeks’ high, with 1,110 percent gain since the start of the year. National Commercial Bank rose 5 cents and ended at $38.05 with just 4,637 units changing hands, Pulse Investments traded 39,414 shares with a rise of 4 cents to close at $2.30, Radio Jamaica lost 26 cents and landed at $3.80 with 2,342 shares trading, Sagicor Group with 51,550 units changing hands ended at $17 after rising 46 cents. Scotia Group lost 50 cents with 27,248 shares changing hands and ended at $28.50, Scotia Investments climbed $3 with 20,242 units trading and closed at $30 and Supreme Ventures fell 20 cents and ended at $4.65 with 83,530 units changing hands.
