Grace hits new high on JSE – Friday

Grace Kennedy hit a new 52 weeks’ high of $102 but with only 502 shares trading and gained $2 in the process, but now has a bid to buy 7,000 units at $103. With the exception of trading in 1 million units of ICI int sht 27-05-16rCaribbean Flavours at $8 and Jamaica Money Market Brokers 7.50% preference share with 312,000 units changing hands at $2.11, volumes were light on the Jamaica Stock Exchange, in the early morning session on Friday.
Trading resulted in activity in 28 securities, accounting for a volume of 1,571,599 units as 9 stocks gained and 9 declined. The average number of shares traded is just 56,129 units compared to an average of a mere 18,121 units on Thursday.
After 75 minutes of trading in the early morning session, on Friday, the all Jamaica Composite Index rose 1,650.04 points to 172,786.13, the JSE Market Index rose 1,475.40 points to 155,543.42, the JSE combined index gained 1,621.07 points, to 166,060.64 and the junior market index rose 24.61 points to 2,123.04.

The Jamaica Stock Exchange main market ended with two new 52 weeks’ high as Grace Kennedy closed at $100 and infrequently traded cinema owners, Palace Amusement Company, traded up $55 to a new record high of $150. The junior market saw ISP Finance Services trading at a new all-time high at the close as well. The market closed with 39 securities changing hands, accounting for 5,686,085 units valued at just $41,894,236, in all market segments. The junior market accounted for 1,193,487 shares valued at $5,345,787 of the total level traded.
Investors pushed the price of 16 stocks in the overall market up, 10 down, including 5 stocks rising and 6 declining, from the junior market as two stocks in the main market hit new highs.
The JSE Market Index gained 763.41 points to end at 154,068.02. The all Jamaica Composite Index rose 853.77 points to close at 171,136.09 and the JSE combined index climbed 426.46 points, to close at 164,439.57.

J$ holds vs US for 4th day to Thursday

US$ bungle Dealers in the forex market who bought over US$14 million more than they sold on Tuesday and Wednesday, bought another US$4 million more than they sold on Thursday in all currencies, but the local currency selling rate remained unchanged for the fourth consecutive day.
The foreign exchange market closed on Thursday, with dealers buying the equivalent of US$73,223,739 and selling US$69,222,068, in contrast to US$47,426,389 purchased and US$41,268,792 sold on Wednesday.
In US dollar trading, dealers bought US$70,329,703 compared to US$43,202,460 on Wednesday, as the buying rate for the US dollar rose 19 cents to $124.97. A total of US$67,424,252 was sold versus US$38,669,562 on Wednesday with the selling rate remaining unchanged at $125.42.FX Sum-26-05-16 The Canadian dollar buying rate fell 42 cents to end at $92.83 with dealers buying C$818,078 and selling C$976,124, at an average rate that climbed by 37 cents to $96.30. The rate for buying the British Pound fell 97 cents to $179.14 for the purchase of £1,495,157, while £516,202 was sold, with the rate gaining $1.26 to $182.27.
At the end of trading, the selling rate for Euro, dropped 20 cents to close at J$139.77, from Wednesday’s rate, according to data from Bank of Jamaica, while dealers purchased the European common currency at J$136.98, for a fall of 40 cents from Wednesday’s rate. The US dollar equivalent of other currencies traded amounts to US$143,028 being bought, while US$298,211 was sold.

Trading in the junior market declined by nearly 3 percent shortly before trading closed on Thursday but made some reversal at the close. Fall in the prices of Caribbean Producers, Lasco Distributors and Honey Bun were major factors behind the decline. Trading volume remained subdued with only three securities trading more than 100,000 shares. The market closed with 1,193,487 shares valued at $5,345,787 changing hands. The market index dropped 27.47 at the close after it fell by 59.25 points earlier, to end at 2,098.43.
A total of 15 securities traded of which 5 advanced and 6 declined. The market ended with bids for 7 stocks closing higher than their last selling prices and 2 ending with lower offers.

More records fell in trading on the Jamaica Stock Exchange in the early morning session on Thursday with very low volumes passing through the market as Grace Kennedy hit $95 with a rise of $3 following strong first quarterly results and Palace Amusement jumped $55 to $150 while trading 1,950 units.

At the end of trading, the selling rate for Euro, dropped 67 cents to close at J$139.97, from Tuesday’s rate, according to data from Bank of Jamaica, while dealers purchased the European common currency at J$137.38, for a fall of 66 cents on Tuesday’s rate. The US dollar equivalent of other currencies traded amounts to US$70,461 being bought, while US$102,157 was sold.

Grace Kennedy traded just 522 shares at a 52 weeks’ high of $91.66 and so did Jamaica Producers Group that traded 76,038 shares up to a new 52 weeks’ high of $40. Palace Amusement could also trade at a new high with the bid at $140 to buy 500 shares. Elsewhere, Supreme Ventures traded 104,250 shares at $5, Caribbean Cream traded 80,555 shares at $4.47 and Lasco manufacturing traded 72,600 shares at $4.35.
